The latest batch of movie ratings decided upon by the Motion Picture Association ratings board were revealed today, with R ratings going to the likes of The Exorcism, The Strangers: Chapter 1, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga… and something a bit less expected. A new adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen story The Little Mermaid is coming our way from Grindstone Entertainment Group, and it has earned an R rating for language, some violence and brief nudity. As it turns out, this is a horror take on The Little Mermaid that has been written and directed by Leigh Scott, whose previous credits include Frankenstein Reborn, The Beast of Bray Road, Exorcism: The Possession of Gail Bowers, Hillside Cannibals, The Hitchhiker, Transmorphers, Flu Bird Horror, Dorothy and the Witches of Oz, and Piranha Sharks, among other things.

What could go wrong when you send a group of elite soldiers skilled in warfare to an island in the middle of nowhere to extract a VIP? Well! Everything could go wrong, and Philippe Martinez’s 2023 action flick, Black Noise, explores such a scenario. A team of skilled soldiers took up a new task, thinking it would be a simple find-and-extract job. Little did they know the enemies they were going to face there would take more than just bullets to kill.
It all began with Ryan (Wayne Gordon) receiving a call from his superiors while he was enjoying his holiday in St. Martin with his team. His squad included Naomi (Ashton Leigh), Leila (Sadie Newman), Leo (Jackson Rathbone), and Jordan. Unfortunately, his superiors wanted Ryan to cancel his holiday and make preparations to extract a target of high value from an exclusive island. The island wasn’t for everyone.

Black Noise is the latest film to follow in the footsteps of Predator and takes a group of highly trained professional soldiers and sends them to a remote location on what should be a simple mission only for it to turn into a battle with something beyond their comprehension. Earlier this year Island Escape added a few twists to make it feel fresh, can Black Noise pull off the same feat?
A large man, uniformed and armed, flees through a Carribean rainforest. Whatever he’s running from must be dangerous, his uniform is torn and he’s battered, bloody, and panicked to the point of shooting at moving foliage. Reaching a house he sees a quad parked in the yard, just what he needs to escape. But...

The Island wastes no time in establishing just how evil its villain, Manuel is. As he’s talking to Nora, a singer auditioning at one of his properties, the waiter spills her drink on her. His response isn’t to fire the man but to stab him in the neck and tell the shocked woman, “Go get cleaned up, you work for me now.”
In Los Angeles Mark and his partner Phil are working undercover setting up a drug bust. This being an action film it naturally goes bad, but that’s not the worst thing Mark is going to have to deal with today. He gets a call telling him his brother has been murdered on the island where they grew up.

First things first, Fear the Invisible Man is not a sequel to the 2020 version of The Invisible Man although I’m sure the film’s makers won’t mind if you think so. Instead, it’s an adaptation of H.G. Wells’ novel that, unlike most adaptations of his work, keeps the book’s Victorian setting.
Griffin is in a race against time to finish his experiments. The reason, his landlord and a bailiff are pounding on the door, ready to evict him. Injecting himself with it moments before they kick in the door, his flesh and bone vanish and he escapes, though not before causing an explosion that kills them and destroys his lab.
Elsewhere Adeline is disbelievingly reading about a series of crimes supposedly caused by an invisible man.

"He's never going to stop... you can't save him." "But I can save our island." Saban Films has revealed an official trailer for The Island, another trashy B-movie action thriller – not to be confused with Michael Bay's sci-fi thriller The Island of 2005. This will be out in July for anyone interested in watching. From the stunt coordinator / director Shaun Paul Piccinino, who you have never heard of and never seen any of his other movies anyway. When his brother is killed, LAPD officer Mark (Michael J. White) leaves the city to return to the island he grew up on. Seeking answers and ultimately vengeance, he soon finds himself in a bloody battle with the corrupt tycoon who's taken over the island paradise. Starring Michael Jai White, along with Jackson Rathbone, Gillian White, Gabriel 'G-Rod' Rodriguez, Cami Storm, Wayne Gordon, Gabriel Rios, and Edoardo Costa as Manuel. This junk should...

"I'm not going to let her get the better of me." Lionsgate has revealed an official trailer for an indie thriller titled Miss Willoughby and the Haunted Bookshop, a whodunit for grownups. A University professor with an insatiable appetite for investigation is asked by some old family friends to investigate a series of hauntings at their antique bookstore. Is someone playing a trick on the poor woman? Is it a hallucination? Or is something sinister going on? The film stars Nathalie Cox as Miss Willoughby, a "smart, stylish new detective in town" who can apparently solve every case - even one involving a haunting. Kelsey Grammer also co-stars in this, joined by Caroline Quentin, Steven Elder, Bhavna Limbachia, Ruth Horrocks, Bryan Samson, Lucas Livesey, and Wayne Gordon. Unfortunately, this film looks like some made-for-tv junk without any excitement in the thrill of discovery. Pretty clear it's not a real ghost,...

When ex-soldier turned mercenary, John Gold (Bennett), learns of the murder of his best friend, he sets off on a mission to find out what happened. What he discovers is a sinister conspiracy and he sets about taking down those responsible one by one.
Since parting ways with the WWE, former superstar Stu Bennett (aka Wade Barrett) has turned his hand to a career as a movie hard man. First as the villain in the fantastic Scott Adkins movie Eliminators and now here in Vengeance – where he takes on a more heroic role. Well I say hero, but it’s more in the sense of a vengeful, single-minded anti-hero in the grand revenge-seeking tradition of Charles Bronson.

"You best stop shooting your mouth off, now – or you're a dead man!" Saban Films + Lionsgate have just released an official trailer for another one of these low budget, super cheesy, totally awful-looking action films. This one is titled I Am Vengeance, a variation on the original Vengeance title for UK release. I Am Vengeance stars former WWE wrestler Stu Bennett (who wrestled under the name Wade "King" Barrett) as an ex-Special Forces soldier turned professional mercenary, who goes to a small town to investigate the murder of a friend and his parents. The film's cast includes Keith Allen, Gary Daniels, Anna Shaffer, Bryan Larkin, Sean Blowers, Sapphire Elia, Mark Griffin, and Wayne Gordon. I'm so, so tired of these films, only about guns and muscles and bravado and being men and honor and glory and all that crap. Here's the official Us trailer (+ poster) for Ross Boyask's I Am Vengeance,...

Boy, oh boy. Lots of movies bomb. Lots of blockbuster productions come out and quickly vanish. Lots of great ideas get misfired. Lots of terrible ideas come out, and are confirmed to be terrible. These things happen all the time. What doesn't typically happen is when the folks involved with those productions each takes turns taking a dump on them. In the months since Fantastic Four was released, the film's director and members of the cast like Kate Mara, have publicly thrown shade on Fox's failed reboot. Well, now we can add Doctor Doom into the mix.
Actor Toby Kebbell, who played the seminal Fantastic Four villain, gave a frank assessment on what was at stake for him in a chat with IGN. He started by stating that he absolutely agrees with the fan base, who thrashed the film when it came out this summer.
"I was disappointed, but the fans aren’t wrong.

If you've seen Spectre – and unless you've been trapped under something heavy all week, we're guessing you have – you may find yourself with a whole lot of unresolved questions.
Some of them about loose plot threads, some about mysterious jewellery, and some about the very future of Bond himself.
Take a look through our nine most burning questions below, then let us know your own in the comments!
Slightly pointless warning: Enormous Spoilers will follow in this article, and we don't recommend you read it unless you've already seen Spectre.
1. Is this the end for Daniel Craig's Bond?
It's no secret that Craig's feelings about carrying on his Bond tenure are, shall we say, mixed. Though he's now backtracked from the much-publicised assertion that he'd "rather slit his wrists" than step back into 007's patent leather shoes, the final moments of Spectre – which see a seemingly retired Bond drive...

Daniel Craig's latest Bond movie Spectre is out now, and it's positively jam-packed with Easter eggs and callbacks to 007 movies from yesteryear.
Grab yourself a Martini and prepare to get very nerdy about James Bond with Spectre's many, many homages. Massive Spoilers, naturally, will follow...
1. The classic gun barrel is back
Daniel Craig has filmed separate gun barrel sequences for each of his 007 movies. In Spectre he does it again, but this time it's pulled to its rightful place at the front of the film and apes the classic Maurice Binder design first seen in Dr No.
2. Goldfinger's white tuxedo and red carnation
Remember that pre-title sequence from Goldfinger where Sean Connery infiltrated a drugs ring, blew the whole place up then stripped down to a white tuxedo?
Craig wears the exact same suit - complete with red carnation - in Spectre. Other movie stars who've rocked the look?...

Not a single trip to the theater this week. I was going to see Before I Go To Sleep on Wednesday night, but they cancelled the screening only a few hours before it was to take place. However, at home I was able to see a few things. First off there was Samurai Assassin (1965) from director Kihachi Okamoto who also directed The Sword of Doom, which I've already professed my love for, Kill! and Zatoichi Meets Yojimbo. Samurai Assassin, in this case, is second to Sword of Doom and boy is it dark and rather disturbing by the end with yet another great performance from Toshiro Mifune. I also watched the new Blu-ray for A Most Wanted Man, which I ended up reviewing right here, and I also watched the Blu-ray for George A. Romero's The Dark Half, which I reviewed here. Other than that, I watched the opening...
