There is nothing like having friends over for a good meal and conversation. That’s the basis for AMC Networks’ In the Kitchen with Harry Hamlin. The series on AMC+ and IFC shows the renowned actor, writer, and entrepreneur Harry Hamlin cooking delicious dishes with his niece and Le Cordon Bleu School-trained chef Renee Guilbault for famous guests. The pair hosted a holiday special with a similar format, which ended up being just the appetizer for what was to come. Each of the five episodes brings in another star-filled dinner party including Hamlin’s wife Lisa Rinna (Real Housewives of Beverly Hills), Bobby Moynihan (Saturday Night Live), Ted Danson (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Mary Steenburgen (Book Club), Dean Norris (Breaking Bad), Tongayi Chirisa (Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches) and Ed Begley Jr. (Better Call Saul) to name a few. Here Guilbault shares what it was like growing up with her Uncle Harry,...

Paramount and writer-director John Krasinski are breathing a sigh of relief after If‘s domestic opening improved to an estimated $35 million thanks to a strong family turnout on Saturday.
Still, the live-action/CGI hybrid film — starring Ryan Reynolds and featuring an A-list voice cast — came in behind tracking’s projected $40 million domestic opening amid an overall tough early summer at the box office. But it could have been worse. Based on Friday’s traffic, the forecast was a bleak $30 million to $31 million.
Paramount insiders say If‘s performance is a victory for original fare, noting it is one of the top openings ever for an original live-action PG title. Critics dissed the film, but audiences awarded it with an A CinemaScore and strong exits, which are key ingredients needed for word-of-mouth and a long run as kids begin their summer break. If is also drawing an ethnically diverse audience, which is another plus.

Chicago – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com appears on “The Morning Mess” with Dan Baker on Wbgr-fm on May 16th, reviewing “If” (which means Imaginary Friend) a new live action/animated epic written and directed by John Krasinski. In theaters on May 17th.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
12-year-old Bea (Calley Fleming) has lost her mother to cancer and is trying to leave behind her childhood. When her Dad (John Krasinski) also has a hospital stay, the girl retreats further into a pre-pubescent angst. While staying with her grandmother (Fiona Shaw), Bea notices some strange goings-on in the apartment above them, including an animated bee creature (voice of Phoebe Waller-Bridge) and a put-upon caretaker named Calvin (Ryan Reynolds). It turns out they’re trying to match their collective of IFs (Imaginary Friends) to new kids who will believe in them, and Bea turns out to be the perfect organizer for that task.
“If” is in theaters on May 17th.

Writer-director John Krasinski‘s original family film IF has started off its box office run with $1.8 million in Thursday previews.
The fantasy pic, headlining Ryan Reynolds and Cailey Fleming alongside an A-list voice cast, explores the world of discarded imaginary friends and what happens when a young girl and her neighbor try to reunite them with their previous human pals.
The live-action/CGI animated Paramount pic is tracking for a domestic debut in the $40 million range from more than 4,000 theaters, but the family marketplace continues to struggle in the post-pandemic era. Nor is original fare an easy proposition. It’s hard to read too much into Thursday previews since families don’t start turning out in earnest until Friday and Saturday, generally speaking, although some exhibitors are worried the movie could have a hard time getting to $40 million based on presales, according to sources.

Plot: A young girl (Cailey Fleming) going through a difficult life experience discovers that she can see a whole world of IFs (imaginary friends) who’ve been forgotten by their childhood friends as they grew older. Now, with the help of their mysterious adult named Cal (Ryan Reynolds), she seeks to unite these IFs with new children.
Review: One cannot fault writer-director-star John Krasinski for a lack of ambition. He’s parlayed the success of his A Quiet Place franchise into this big-budget family film, which seems to aspire to be a live-action Pixar flick. However, in attempting to appeal to both children and adults, he’s made a movie targeting too vague an audience. If is too childish for adults, but it is also likely too serious and dramatic to keep kids entertained.
As such, If could be categorized as an interesting failure. Like Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland, which also seemed inspired by Pixar,...

The first major studio family film of summer 2024 opens at the box office this weekend, and it couldn’t boast more star power.
Writer-director John Krasinski’s If — headlining Ryan Reynolds and Cailey Fleming alongside an A-list voice cast — explores the world of discarded imaginary friends and what happens when a young girl and her neighbor try to reunite them with their previous human pals.
The live-action/CGI animated Paramount pic is tracking for a domestic debut in the $40 million range. Reviews so far are mixed, but good audience scores will arguably matter more in this case. Plus, there’s a pent-up demand for family product that all ages can go see.
Unless there is a total upset, If should top the box office and wrest the crown from Disney and 20th Century Studio’s male-fueled Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, which overperformed in North America with a $58.6 million opening last weekend,...

In the early scenes of his new fantasy film geared to families, John Krasinski is seen as a 12-year-old girl’s father who’s in the hospital preparing for what seems to be life-threatening heart surgery. To keep up his daughter’s spirits, he delivers elaborate jokes and comedy routines, leading her to complain that he needn’t bother, that she’s not a child anymore. In other words, she thinks he’s trying too hard, which is something you could also say about If.
There’s no denying the ambition and thoughtfulness on display in this effort written and directed by Krasinski, which marks a notable stylistic turn from his smash hit horror films A Quiet Place and its sequel. If, whose title means “Imaginary Friends,” aims for obvious laughs with its multitude of amusing computer-animated characters featuring all sorts of incarnations from teddy bears to melting marshmallows. As much as Will Smith wanted Chris Rock to keep his wife’s name out his f*ckin’ mouth, the comedian wanted to lay as low as possible after The Slap. That included turning down good friend Jerry Seinfeld’s offer to appear in Unfrosted — primarily because his cameo would have spoofed that infamous Oscar moment.
As Jerry Seinfeld revealed on the Fly on the Wall podcast, he reached out to Chris Rock to let him get some remote revenge. “The other thing I wanted to do, that I almost did, was Chris Rock was gonna be the emcee of the Bowl and Spoon Awards. We shot that right after the Will Smith slap, and I was gonna have somebody come up on the stage and have Chris punch them out…Chris wasn’t…he wasn’t up to perform. Genndy Tartakovsky has been a revolutionary voice in the world of animation, creating some of the most celebrated cartoon shoes on Cartoon Network and Adult Swim. Popular shows of the 2000s including Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack, Star Wars: Clone Wars, Sym-Bionic Titan, and recent entries like Primal, and Unicorn: Warriors Eternal were his creations.

His ongoing show Primal has been a big hit on Adult Swim. The visionary creator/ director drew a lot of inspiration from some of the cinematic greats like Star Wars and Sergio Leone films. Disney+ has shared the first teaser trailer for its new "four-piece" animated special, Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy.
Jar Jar Binks remains a divisive character among fans and it's long been theorised (jokingly...we think) that the Gungan was secretly a villain who set out to destroy the Galaxy. While Marvel has been getting plenty of mileage from the multiversal possibilities in exploring alternate worlds, it's not something we've generally seen (at least on screen) in Star Wars' galaxy far, far, away. That changes with new comic animated "four-piece" Lego animated special Star Wars: Rebuild The Galaxy, in which some very intriguing ideas are finally given free rein. Including – yes! – Darth Jar Jar. Check out the first teaser:

Jar Jar Binks is one of the more reviled characters in the entire Star Wars franchise, and while he’s largely harmless, some fans wonder if he’s not hiding something darker and more sinister. Some have even theorized that Jar Jar is secretly a Sith Lord, and the new teaser trailer for Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy definitely plays into that by giving us… Darth Jar Jar. Check out the teaser below!

For years, Jar Jar Binks took a beating from "Star Wars" fans who were less than thrilled with the computer generated character's slapstick antics when he debuted in "The Phantom Menace" back in 1999. The bumbling Gungan was so hated that actor Ahmed Best fell into a deep depression. In more recent years, the actor has taken on a new "Star Wars" role as Jedi Kelleran Beq, who rescued "The Mandalorian" bounty Grogu from the Jedi Temple when Order 66 was enacted during the events of "Revenge of the Sith." But soon, Ahmed Best will bring together both Jar Jar Binks and the power of the Force by bringing us a dark side version of the character that finally pays off a ridiculous fan theory.
Despite appearing to be a complete dimwit, there's a popular theory that Jar Jar Binks is actually a brilliant Sith lord, and his antics have all been...

Worlds are colliding (and rebuilding!) in the new trailer for Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy released Monday.
In the upcoming animated special (which will consist of four parts and release Friday, September 13 on Disney+), “the entire Star Wars Galaxy gets completely mixed up when an ordinary nerf-herder, Sig Greebling (voiced by Stranger Things’ Gaten Matarazzo), unearths a powerful artifact from a hidden Jedi temple,” reads the official description. “He finds himself thrust into adventure in a new, wondrously wild and twisted version of the galaxy where good guys are bad, bad guys are good and the fate of all...

Today, Disney+ unveiled the teaser trailer and poster for the “four-piece” animated special Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy. Launching on September 13, the special showcases the longtime collaboration between Lucasfilm and the Danish toy manufacturing company The Lego Group.
“It’s hard to believe that it’s been twenty-five years since the ground-breaking collaboration between Lucasfilm and The Lego Group began,” says executive producer James Waugh. “In that time, Lego Star Wars has given our fans the unique power to unlock their imaginations and play with the galaxy’s elements in any way they can conceive… and build.”
Waugh added: “It’s with that playful spirit in mind that we set out to ‘Rebuild the Galaxy’ like never before. Tapping into the comedic genius of Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, two of the most talented comedy writers I’ve had the fortune of working with, we’ve mixed and matched...

Plot: Michigan, 1963. Kellogg’s and Post, sworn cereal rivals, race to create a pastry that will change the face of breakfast. A tale of ambition, betrayal, sugar, and menacing milkmen, Unfrosted stars Jerry Seinfeld in his directorial debut.
Review: It took nine years after the series finale of Seinfeld for Jerry Seinfeld’s big screen debut, Bee Movie. That surreal, animated adventure was a spot-on continuation of the stand-up comedian’s brand of observational humor told within the context of a strangely specific world. Unfrosted, which reunited Seinfeld with his team of writers from Bee Movie, is another glimpse into a surreal world that allows him to explore his distinct type of comedy with an all-star cast of talent playing real and fictional characters. Boasting glossy, retro visuals and capitalizing on Seinfeld’s well-known love of breakfast, Unfrosted looks like it was fun to make. I only wish it was as much fun to watch.

By most standards, "Unfrosted" is not what you'd call a "good" movie. It's visually flat — as a filmmaker, Jerry Seinfeld will never win an award or be thought of as one of the greats (his direction is limited to "point and shoot"). Its screenplay doesn't even attempt to tell a complete narrative — the third act crumbles, as if everyone ran out of ideas and threw up their hands. None of these things are promising. And yet ... I laughed. A lot. I laughed because Seinfeld's movie about the invention of Pop-Tarts is very, very silly, and sometimes you just want to watch something silly. Seinfeld and his co-writers Spike Feresten, Andy Robin, and Barry Marder have cobbled together a gloriously ridiculous feast; a film that doesn't even slightly attempt to take itself seriously. I mean, this is a movie about Pop-Tarts, for crying out loud — how serious can it be?

If you appreciated Barbie’s eye-popping zaniness but its virtuous speechifying set your teeth on edge, have I got a sugary treat for you. And by “sugary,” I mean empty calories, not saccharine sentimentality. Gleefully silly — this is, after all, the directing debut of TV’s master of the domain of nothing — Unfrosted takes the origin-story template, wrings it dry of emotion, mixes basic facts with goofy fiction and serves up a bit of toasted history about the search for a “fruit-filled pastry dingus,” the 20th century creation we now know as the Pop-Tart.
Teaming again with his Bee Movie screenwriting collaborators, but this time without the strained punning and belabored narrative mechanics, Jerry Seinfeld has lured a cast of thousands to play characters both real and invented, often a hybrid of the two, in a straight-up comedy — no therapeutic underpinnings or civic lessons — that’s funniest when it isn’t trying too hard.

For years various producers have pitched doing something like a zany It’s A Mad Mad Mad Mad World, only populated by an epic cast of contemporary comedy stars just like that Stanley Kramer supercomedy did during its time in 1963. So it is probably not a coincidence that Jerry Seinfeld selected that very year in which to set his live action filmmaking debut, Unfrosted, as a quadruple threat of star, director, co-writer, producer.
Placing it in Battle Creek, Michigan and taking the real life story of the rivalry of cereal kingpins Kellogg’s and Post in their race to create a revolutionary breakfast pastry, Seinfeld and his longtime writing partner Spike Feresten, along with their Bee Movie collaborators Andy Rubin & Barry Marder, have chosen to use some real life people, made up several others, salted it all with some basic truths, and basically let the laughs and comedy lead the way in the telling.

Jerry Seinfeld took a shot at Friends in a new digital short promoting his new film Unfrosted, a comedy about the creation of Pop-Tarts.
Seinfeld made his directorial debut in the Netflix film about how the toaster pastries came to be. A new short ahead of the film’s release on May 3, Seinfeld visits Kellogg’s corporate offices in Michigan due to “trademark infringement.”
“You see, Mr. Seinfeld, you took something of ours, and now we’re going to take something of yours,” says the fictional President of Pop-Tarts, Kelman P. Gasworth.
Tarty, the Pop-Tarts mascot, then proceeds to unveil former Seinfeld characters trapped in a box. Making a cameo in the spot are Alexandra Wentworth’s Schmoopie, Phil Morris’s Jackie Chiles and Larry Thomas’ The Soup Nazi.
“My characters!” Seinfeld says.

Hugh Grant's homemade iPhone audition clip left the 'Unfrosted' writers "stunned".The 'Notting Hill' star features in Jerry Seinfeld's comedy 'Unfrosted' as Thurl Ravenscroft – the actor who played Tony the Tiger for several decades – and his home-filmed try-out couldn't have gone down any better.Recalling his audition, Seinfeld's co-writer Spike Feresten told IndieWire: “He had a glass of wine in his hand, and he was on the couch.“We were just stunned on how homemade his audition was — and how good it was. Here’s Hugh Grant at 8 o’clock at night before he goes to bed, crushing the lines. Crushing. That’s when we said, ‘Jerry, close this for us. Get this guy.’”It was no doubt a relief that Grant was perfect for the role because they were "terrified" of not being able to cast anyone.Seinfeld - who also plays Bob Cabana,...

Writer-director John Krasinski’s upcoming summer movie If already looks like it will have plenty of friends when hitting theaters.
The Paramount movie is tracking to open to $40 million-plus, or a range of $38 million to $42 million, an impressive figure for an original family film. And based on raw data, some box office pundits believe it has a shot at $45 million to $50 million.
Unaided awareness is well above average, as well as interest and first choice. For Paramount, the tracking numbers show that the studio is able to keep to the job at hand, versus getting stymied by talks of a looming sale.
If‘s cast list reads like a who’s who of top Hollywood stars, led by Ryan Reynolds.

Lorne Michaels is an expert at celebrating the legacy of “Saturday Night Live.” The show’s creator has produced variety specials for the NBC program’s 15th anniversary, 25th anniversary and 40th anniversary, so the upcoming 50th season should have a highly entertaining spectacle. Nothing less than a three-hour event would be expected, but how else should “SNL” celebrate the golden anniversary season, which would begin in the autumn of 2024 and continue through May, 2025?
Here is our exciting, fun suggestion for a way to go above and beyond for the live special. Over the course of a 20-22 episode season, NBC would certainly have almost every episode featuring the current cast along with hot guest hosts and musical guests. However, for the other five episodes spread out over several months, devote an entire 90 minutes to each previous decade. Invite back the biggest cast members from a decade along with well-known guest hosts and music stars.

What’s the deal with Pop-Tarts? Jerry Seinfeld is here to provide an answer.
Netflix just released the first trailer for “Unfrosted,” Seinfeld’s feature directorial debut that ostensibly explains how Kellogg’s invented the breakfast treat beloved by millions for decades.
“Michigan, 1963. Kellogg’s and Post, sworn cereal rivals, race to create a pastry that will change the face of breakfast forever. A tale of ambition, betrayal, sugar, and menacing milkmen,” reads the Netflix description.
But as shown in the trailer, “Unfrosted” is anything but straight-faced, and instead treats this de facto arms race like an actual arms race, with Post (led by Amy Schumer and Max Greenfield) positioned as the Soviet Union to the United States of Kellogg’s (where Seinfeld and Melissa McCarthy are the heroes). The all-star cast also includes Jim Gaffigan, Hugh Grant, James Marsden, Bill Burr, Christian Slater, Jack McBrayer, Thomas Lennon, and Bobby Moynihan.

Not a single person asked for this, but we're getting it anyway. You likely never wondered about the intense brand rivalry between Kellogg's and Post that went into the invention of Pop-Tarts -- and, honestly, why would you? -- but the real-life drama behind the breakfast staple proved too much to resist, apparently. In a world where we can get an Oscar-winning drama about Facebook from one of our greatest living directors, a weirdly watchable biopic on the guy behind McDonald's starring Batman, and most recently Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's "Moneyball"-like deep-dive into Nike's Air Jordan sneakers, why the heck wouldn't we get a movie all about the process behind how breakfast was reinvented forever?

What’s the deal with Unfrosted, the new Netflix movie from Jerry Seinfeld? Thanks to the new trailer, we find out exactly how the comedy spoofs the invention of Pop-Tarts. Watch it below.
Making his feature directorial debut, Seinfeld stars as a Kellogg’s cereal exec who aims to redefine breakfast with the toaster pastry we now know as the Pop-Tart. With Melissa McCarthy at his side, Seinfeld faces off against Post exec Amy Schumer, “stacking the deck” by enlisting celebrities like Steve Schwinn, “Chef Boyardee,” and Jack Lalanne.
Here’s the official logline: “Battle Creek, Michigan, 1963. Kellogg’s and Post, sworn cereal rivals, race to create a pastry that will change the face of breakfast forever. A wildly imaginative tale of ambition, betrayal, and menacing milkmen — sweetened with artificial ingredients.”
Thanks to an additional cast featuring Jim Gaffigan, Hugh Grant (as Tony the Tiger!), Max Greenfield, Christian Slater, Bill Burr,...
