Beyoncé’s lyrics change to Dolly Parton’s classic song Jolene weren’t expected by the song’s composer, one Dolly Parton.
Parton revealed to E! News that she didn’t know Beyoncé was putting her own spin on the song.
“When they said she was gonna do Jolene, I expected it to be my regular one, but it wasn’t. But I love what she did to it. And as a songwriter, you love the fact that people do your songs no matter how they do them.”
“Well, I think it was very bold of her,” Parton said.
Parton provided an introduction for Beyoncé’s version of Jolene on the Cowboy Carter album. “Hey, miss Honey Bey. It’s Dolly P. You know that hussy with the good hair you sang about? Reminded me of someone I knew back when. Except she has flaming locks of auburn hair. Bless her heart.

Truly, Truly, absence makes the heart grow fonder just ask Dolly Parton and she’ll tell you. In an exclusive interview with E! News’ Keltie Knight and Justin Sylvester, the “Jolene” singer shared the secret to her successful marriage to her husband Carl Dean.
Over the years, lots of Parton’s fans have been dying to see who the country singer has been sharing her forever with but haven’t had much luck, and that’s because Dean is a very private person who prefers to live out of the spotlight.
The couple tied the knot on May 30, 1966, and since then till date, they’ve been going stronger. It’s been 57 years and counting yet there has never been any news or scandal about their union.

Lily Tomlin knows the challenges of a 9 to 5 sequel, which is why she feels Jennifer Aniston’s reimagining of the iconic 1980 film is going to be “tough to make.”
The actress, who starred alongside Dolly Parton and Jane Fonda in the original movie, recently opened up to People magazine about their attempt to write a follow-up to the beloved film in 2018.
“We had one official crack at the script,” Tomlin recalled. “The draft just didn’t work for us. We couldn’t really see the work world today [in the pages]. People work from home. They take gig work. They don’t even know their boss. They’re at home!”
Though all three women were going to reprise their roles for the sequel, Parton later told Entertainment Tonight that they had ultimately “dropped that whole idea.”
“I don’t think we’re going to do the sequel,” the “Jolene” singer said at the time.

Wherever Jolene is out there somewhere, she’s not getting a moment’s rest — Beyoncé and Dolly Parton are making sure of that. On her new album Act II: Cowboy Carter, Beyoncé debuted a fresh take on the classic cut “Jolene,” which has now debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100, surpassing the chart success of the original.
While the legacy of the original song is clearly unimpeachable — there’s a reason Queen Bey was interested in covering it, after all — this marks the first time any version of “Jolene” has entered the Top 10 on the chart, which launched in 1958. Of course, chart determination factors were also extremely different in 1973, and despite the fact that Dolly’s “Jolene” peaked at No. 60 in its original run, the song has remained a prominent pop culture staple for decades.

Joy Behar is not a fan of Dolly Parton‘s “Jolene,” even though it’s the original. She much rather prefers Beyoncé’s version for its power and anger.
You see, while Dolly’s version begged this beautiful and seductive Jolene to not take her man, Beyoncé’s version warned that there’ll be consequences should she even make moves to take her man. For this reason, Behar believes that one of these two songs is “anti-feminist.”

Reba McEntire jumped to good friend Dolly Parton’s defense after The View co-host Joy Behar insulted the country music icon. Why would the journalist have anything negative to say about the “9 to 5” singer? Keep reading for all the details on the feud.
The View Co-Host Shades Dolly Parton
Pop singer Beyoncé released her first country album last month to mixed reviews. One of the tracks on the Cowboy Carter is a cover of Dolly Parton’s major hit “Jolene.” Beyoncé didn’t stay with the original lyrics, however. Dolly’s version begs Jolene not to take her man. Beyoncé’s version takes a more aggressive approach, practically daring Jolene to even try.
Beyoncé’s version opens with the verse, “Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene/I’m warning you, don’t come for my man.”

After Beyoncé’s revelatory new album Cowboy Carter arrived everywhere on Friday, March 29th, some fans weren’t so happy with the products they purchased. Beyoncé’s physical releases of Cowboy Carter left out some key tracks: “YA YA,” “Spaghettii,” “The Linda Martell Show,” “Oh Louisiana,” and “Flamenco” are all absent from the vinyls.
The CD version includes “Flamenco,” but per Rolling Stone, the limited edition CD was supposed to include an additional song — it turns out that “Flamenco” was that additional song all along, even though it appears on the digital release of Cowboy Carter. Vinyl purchasers, however, weren’t given “Flamenco” on their records, nor do the pair of Linda Martell-featuring tracks “Spaghettii” and “The Linda Martell Show” appear.
The BBC is positing that these songs were added to Cowboy Carter’s tracklist late, and thus could not be retrospectively added to the physical formats in time for the album’s release.

For Cowboy Carter, Beyoncé released her own interpretation of Dolly Parton’s classic song “Jolene.” Despite significantly reworking the song’s lyrics, Beyoncé nonetheless gave Parton full songwriting credit.
Parton is credited as the sole songwriter of “Jolene” on Cowboy Carter, while Beyoncé is listed as the performer and co-producer, according to credits released on Spotify and other DSPs. This suggests that any and all songwriting royalties from the song will go to Parton, and not Beyoncé.
The news isn’t exactly surprising. Parton has long been protective of her music, even going as far to deny Elvis Presley’s request to cover “I Will Always Love You” in 1974 after Presley’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker, demanded that they share royalties.
Upon the release of Cowboy Carter, Parton lauded Beyoncé’s reinterpretation of “Jolene,” writing on Instagram: “Wow, I just heard ‘Jolene.’ Beyoncé is giving that girl some trouble and she deserves it!

Parton has enjoyed decades of success but shared that there was a time in the 1990s, when a number of things had left her “wounded” and she turned to writing music as a form of therapy.

Beyoncé just dropped her highly anticipated country album, but Dolly Parton fans are not happy with her “Jolene” cover. Keep reading to find out what country music fans are saying.
Dolly Parton Fans Not Happy With Beyoncé “Jolene” Cover
Beyoncé announced in February that her next album would be a country one. Many country music fans were skeptical of the genre jump. Cowboy Carter came out earlier this week to much fanfare.
As expected, she covered Dolly Parton’s 1973 hit song “Jolene.” But Beyoncé didn’t stay true to the original. She reimagined it with new lyrics.
Dolly’s version begins with the pleading lyrics, “Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene/I’m begging of you please don’t take my man/Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene/Please don’t take him just because you can.”
However, the opening of Beyoncé’s version sets the warning tone for the rest of the song: “Jolene,...

On Friday, Beyoncé released her album Cowboy Carter, which features a modern reimagining of Dolly Parton’s classic “Jolene” and an interlude from Miss Parton herself. Track nine hears an introduction to the song by Dolly. “You know that hussy with the good hair you sing about?” she asks. “Reminded me of someone I knew back when, except she has flaming locks of auburn hair.

Track nine hears an introduction to the song by Dolly. “You know that hussy with the good hair you sing about?” she asks. “Reminded me of someone I knew back when, except she has flaming locks of auburn hair.

For years, Dolly Parton has advocated for Beyoncé to cover “Jolene,” and her wish has finally come true. With her new country album, Cowboy Carter, Beyoncé tackled the classic song and featured Parton herself on an interlude ahead of the cover. Beyoncé’s take on “Jolene” is a bit different from Parton’s 1973 version. Here’s how she updated the song’s lyrics.
Beyoncé altered the lyrics to Dolly Parton’s ‘Jolene’ on ‘Cowboy Carter’
On “Dolly P,” an interlude on Cowboy Carter, Parton gives a message to Beyoncé.
“Hey, Ms. Honey Bee, it’s Dolly P.,” she says. “You know that hussy with the good hair you sing about? Reminded me of someone I knew back when, except she has flaming locks of auburn hair, bless her heart. Just a hair of a different color, but it hurts just the same.”

Today is officially a “marvelous day” in Dolly Parton’s life since she practically willed Beyoncé’s cover of “Jolene,” on the just-released Cowboy Carter album, into existence a couple of years ago.

This is a Beyoncé album,” the record has its share of country songs, sounds, and signifiers. But as with nearly everything she does, Beyoncé makes the genre her own — with captivating results.

Grab your cowboy hat, because Act II: Cowboy Carter, the next installment of Beyoncé’s Renaissance project, has officially arrived. Stream it below.
The second act kicked off in February with the album announcement and dual drop of “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages,” which confirmed this project as country-inspired. Shortly after, Beyoncé revealed that this album was born of an experience where she didn’t feel welcomed, and the process of writing and recording Act II has encouraged her to take a deep dive into the rich history of Black artists in country music.
She’s enlisted a crew of serious heavy hitters to join her on the journey, including icons Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton. Miley Cyrus and Post Malone also guest on Cowboy Carter. Linda Martell, the first Black woman to ever play the Grand Ole Opry, gets a moment to take center stage, too.

Earlier this month, Dolly Parton let it slip that Beyoncé had recorded a cover of “Jolene.” “I think it’s probably gonna be on her country album, which I’m very excited about that,” Parton explained. “I love her! She’s a beautiful girl and a great singer.”

Dolly Parton and her husband, Carl Dean, have been married for decades, but that hasn’t stopped either of them from having crushes. Parton revealed that her husband has always harbored a crush on one of her former co-stars.

Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001. The night Enterprise, later to be named Star Trek: Enterprise, premiered with “Broken Bow.” I didn’t get to see it that night, probably since it was a school night and I was 10. I taped it on VHS and watched it with my mom a day or so later. We both enjoyed it well enough.
Until we got to a certain scene.
The crew was just attacked on an alien planet. The plot was ramping up. But first? Trip (Connor Trinneer) and T’Pol (Jolene Blalock) strip down to their underwear and lather each other up with gel. I never get to know why because my mom made me fast forward through the scene, feeling it was, “inappropriate.” We got to the next scene and resumed watching, never speaking of the “inappropriate” scene again. I didn’t rewatch “Broken Bow” until earlier this year and finally got to watch the forbidden scene.

Country music legend Dolly Parton has given an exciting update for Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans waiting for a potential revival of the hit series. Speaking to Business Insider in a recent interview, the multi-time Grammy-winning singer confirmed producers are working on bringing the series back, noting, “They’re still working on that.” “They’re thinking about bringing it back and revamping it,” she said of the Joss Whedon-created series that starred Sarah Michelle Gellar as the titular Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Parton was connected to the original series as a producer through her production company Sandollar Productions, which she co-founded with her former manager, Sandy Gallin. Oh no, not the decontamination chamber.
When "Star Trek: Enterprise" debuted in 2001, there was a conscious effort by the showrunners to work in as much brazen sex appeal as they could. Noticeably, the casting directors hired Jolene Blalock, who had worked as a professional model, to play the Vulcan First Officer T'Pol, and the costume designers were careful to outfit her in skin-tight body suits. She was clearly meant to replicate Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) from "Star Trek: Voyager."
"Enterprise" was set about a century prior to the original "Star Trek," and some of the more popular "Trek" tech hadn't been invented yet. As such, when a team of officers returned from an away mission, they had to spend a long span in a decontamination chamber. In later other "Trek" shows, the transporters took care of contaminants and idle spores an away mission might have accumulated. On "Enterprise," officers...

With the Cowboys leading 20-10 at the half — and on their way to 45-10 routing of the Washington football team — it fell on Dolly to liven things up with a halftime show in which she donned a Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders uniform and sang, “Jolene,” “9 to 5” and then “We Are the Champions” (though the Cowboys are currently second in the NFC East). When you got it, you got it. And Dolly Parton still has it.
The country legend and reluctant recent Rock & Roll Hall of Famer performed today at halftime of the NFL game between the Washington Commanders and host Dallas Cowboys and brought the billion-dollar house down with a three-song, six-minute concert.
Riding her just-released rock double album Rockstar, the veteran singer-songwriter began with a pitch for the Salvation Army before playing two of her signature hits and a newly revamped Queen classic. Parton began with “Jolene,” her iconic plea to a man-stealing, auburn-haired vixen that features the signature line “please don’t take him just because you can.” It’s the track’s golden anniversary this month, having first hit the country chart in November 1973 before going to No. 1.

It sounds like the new recording stays fairly faithful to the original, with Måneskin’s Damiano David taking on co-lead vocals with Parton.
“Jolene” appears on the deluxe edition of Rockstar, which also features guest features from Sting, Steve Perry, Joan Jett, Mick Fleetwood, Pat Benatar, Brandi Carlile, and many, many more. See a preview clip of Måneskin’s take on “Jolene” below.

Dolly Parton is addressing her favorite form of communication.
Earlier this month, the 77-year-old “Jolene” singer’s longtime friend Reba McEntire appeared on Watch What Happens Live and revealed that the only way she can get in contact with Dolly is through fax.
“Dolly doesn’t text,” Reba, 68, said, before adding, “I don’t have her telephone number, and I asked Kenny Rogers one time, I said, ‘Do you have Dolly’s number?’ He said, ‘No.’”
Dolly then appeared on The View and explained why faxing is her preferred form of communication.

The snow covered French Alps might not be a place where you’d expect to hear the propulsive sound of Caribbean island steel drums.
But that wonderful boinging is audible – extremely audible – right at the start of “Anatomy of a Fall,” the twisty mystery that won the Cannes Film Festival top prize for director Justine Triet.
The French film, now in limited release, depicts the ordeal of novelist Sandra (played by Oscar contender Sandra Hüller), who is suspected of murder when her husband Vincent dies after plummeting from a high window in their mountain chalet.
During the whole first segment of the film, Vincent has cranked up the volume on an instrumental cover of 50 Cent’s 2003 “P.I.M.P.,” a hit single from his major studio debut album “Get Rich or Die Tryin’.” The version we hear in the film is a 2008 remix by the German music ensemble Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band:...

Dolly Parton and Carl Dean started dating shortly after the “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” singer moved to Nashville. They dated for two years before secretly getting married in Ringgold, Georgia (against the advice of Parton’s record label). Here’s a look back at the famous couple’s time dating, including their “special songs.”
How Dolly Parton and Carl Dean met and started dating
When Parton first moved to Nashville, she lived next to a laundromat called the Wishy Washy. One day, after putting in a load, she walked outside to get some air. There in his car, idling, was Dean. The two started flirting and made a quick connection. For the next week, Parton was booked babysitting and couldn’t go out with the handsome stranger. So he joined her in her babysitting duties until she finally got a night off. That night, he took her to...
