Tyler Perry penned an op-ed Wednesday speaking out against alleged racial discrimination experienced by his friends, comedians Eric André and Clayton English.
In his column, published in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Perry addresses a lawsuit filed earlier this year alleging that both André and English were unlawfully stopped by authorities at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. Earlier this year, Perry and several other actors — including Jamie Foxx, Taraji P. Henson, Sterling K. Brown and Rege-Jean Page — filed a friend-of-the-court brief as part of the suit.
“André and English were targeted and stopped by Clayton County Police Department (Ccpd) officers, several months apart, on jet bridges in Atlanta’s airport while they were steps from boarding their flights,” Perry wrote.
Despite the fact that both men had been cleared by Tsa security, Perry wrote that the comedians were approached by plainclothed police officers and alleged they were targeted because of “the color of their skin.

It was only a couple of years ago that Tuesdays with the Pearson family ended, and thankfully it wasn’t for good as This Is Us stars Mandy Moore, Chris Sullivan, and Sterling K. Brown revisit the series with their recently-launched rewatch podcast, That Was Us. Debuting in 2016, the Dan Fogelman-created series struck a chord with audiences right away and managed to tug at their heartstrings for six seasons until the finale in 2022. But what sparked the desire to revisit the Pearsons and their time-hopping history now? “I think the idea had been swirling in all of our heads,” Sullivan tells TV Insider. As fans will recall, he played the lovable Toby Damon who was introduced as Kate Pearson’s (Chrissy Metz) boyfriend at the start of the series. “I think it kind of just comes down to the fact that everyone who worked on this show has a...

While, Hulu is not as flashy as some of the other streaming services like Netflix, Max, and Disney+, it has a solid library of shows that are both originals and licensed through various studios. Regarding sci-fi shows, Hulu doesn’t have any big names like 3 Body Problem or Westworld, but it makes up for that by carrying some great new and old shows like Devs and The X-Files, which were loved by millions of people. So, we thought of making a list of the best sci-fi TV shows you can find on Hulu right now.

On May 24, Netflix released the new sci-fi movie Atlas starring Jennifer Lopez — it immediately broke into the top 1 movies on the platform, where it still remains, and also received far from the best (or rather catastrophically bad) ratings on Rotten Tomatoes — 19% from critics and 49% from viewers.
And even though the Rt score is often out of sync with reality — there are a large number of truly worthy films with low ratings — in this case, Rotten Tomatoes score is accurately conveying the impressions left after watching the new blockbuster.
What Is Atlas About?
In the near future, humanity is using holographic interfaces, neural communication, and hypersonic engines. Scientist Val Shepherd creates an advanced android, Harlan, who accidentally gains self-awareness.
He subjugates other robots and enters into a fierce confrontation with humans, resulting in millions of casualties, after which Harlan flies to another galaxy and promises to return to cleanse Earth of humans.

5 Things That Did Not Work for Jennifer Lopez’s Atlas(Photo Credit –IMDb)
A megastar, a big budget, a tried and tested genre – Netflix’s Atlas had all the right elements for a blockbuster, so how did the makers still miss it? One of the most anticipated streaming releases of the year, the film fell short of all expectations.
Ever since Atlas was released on Netflix, the film has been panned by critics. What was promised to be an action-packed visual spectacle, turned out to be a dud. So what did go wrong with the Jennifer Lopez movie? Among the many factors behind Atlas’ failure, these 5 things certainly did not work for the film.
1. Predictable Plot
From the trailer, it looked like Atlas would have something new to offer in the sci-fi genre; but instead, the film felt like a rehashed version of all the robots vs humanity movies we have watched before.

Last year, Jennifer Lopez starred in so-so Netflix actioner "The Mother," in which she sniped her way through wave after wave of bad guys. Unfortunately the film marked yet another moment whereby the streaming age subsumed a former megastar into its nebulous cloud of generic "content." If "The Mother" isn't enough to convince you of such developments, just take a look at "Atlas," the latest Lopez-starring Netflix original film.
It should be said that the trailer for "Atlas" did look promising, but critics certainly aren't too impressed with this sci-fi actioner, which comes from director Brad Peyton ("San Andreas") and also stars Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, and Mark Strong. Lopez plays an AI-wary data analyst who quickly finds herself in a situation where she's forced to rely on a synthetic consciousness to survive a mission gone awry. After months of speculation and heated discussions, Netflix’s brand new sci-fi action movie Atlas starring Jennifer Lopez is finally here, and it’s still pretty much controversial.
Despite being crushed by both critics and viewers, Atlas is having quite a good time as the film was quick to climb to the number one spot in Netflix’s top 10, according to the most recent data from FlixPatrol.
Also starring Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown and Mark Strong, the movie follows Atlas Shepherd, a sophisticated data analyst who has trust issues regarding the newest technologies, especially when it comes to using AI.
Atlas has her own mission to capture the AI terrorist Harlan who, as his interrogated team later reveals, has escaped and is now hiding on another planet. Learning about it, Atlas embarks on a continuous search for Harlan by accompanying the military mission to find and capture the criminal.

Review: Jennifer Lopez has been in five films over the last two years, and another, Unstoppable, is still on the way. After her acclaimed 2019 performance in Hustlers, Lopez has starred in two romantic comedies, two action films, and a bizarre music video-slash-biopic monstrosity linked to her latest album. Now, her second Netflix feature in as many years, Atlas, aims to be J.Lo’s Marvel-esque blockbuster but falls short in every conceivable way. Directed by San Andreas helmer Brad Peyton, Atlas is a special effects-laden foray into the most cliched science fiction genre offering I have seen in a long time.

Jennifer Lopez’s recent films in her career have failed to impress fans, with many complaining about the mediocrity of the films she is participating in. Although her performances in her recent films Shotgun Wedding, and The Mother were praised, the films were considered cliche and derivative. Her latest film Atlas may be the weakest film in recent years.

Atlas is now streaming on Netflix, and the review embargo lifted late last night - shortly before the movie hit the streamer.
Though not always the case, this is usually not a great indicator of quality, and sure enough, the reviews have been pretty dire so far.
The Brad Peyton-directed sci-fi action flick stars Jennifer Lopez as Atlas Shepard, "a woman fighting for humanity in a future where an AI soldier has determined the only way to end war is to end humanity. To out think this rogue AI, Atlas must work with the one thing she fears most — another AI."
The A.I.-centred plot is appropriate, because Atlas feels like it was generated by ChatGPT.
We didn't review the movie in full, but It's basically a hodgepodge of well-worn tropes and ideas that have been executed a lot better in other films, further let down by a by-the-numbers script,...

Atlas Movie Review Rating:
Star Cast: Jennifer Lopez, Sterling K. Brown, Mark Strong and Simu Liu.
Director: Brad Peyton
Atlas Movie Review(Photo Credit –IMDb)
What’s Good: Some of the action is fun in a cheesy way, and the movie doesn’t know when to hold on to its unhinged energy.
What’s Bad: The acting is awful across the board, and great actors like Sterling K. Brown and Mark Strong are wasted.
Loo Break: You could take a break at any point, and you wouldn’t be missing much, as the film’s twist is just too predictable and there are no action or character moments worth waiting for.
Watch or Not?: This film is an overall pass. There are better offerings out there, especially with Furiosa and Dune still playing in theaters.
Language: English (with subtitles).
Available On: Netflix
Runtime: 118 Minutes.

Almost every strand of DNA within Atlas’ genetic makeup is toxic. The haphazard, ham-handed sci-fi film, distributed by a streamer that utilizes computer algorithms to guide its creative process, revolves around a guilt-riddled heroine fighting “evil” artificial intelligence with the help of a “good” artificial intelligence.

The international pop star isn’t done with stardom yet, and she stars as Atlas, the titular character of the movie. Most of the film is focused on Atlas, as she’s the one who is out for redemption. After watching J.Lo’s latest film, I began to wonder: Is Atlas the first pro-artificial intelligence movie of the decade? A prominent issue today is the use of AI. Atlas comes across as a movie from a studio trying to convince the public that AI is good for society. Initially, you might say no because Atlas spends so much time trying to destroy AI rather than protect it.
However, as the film progresses, the subtext and themes become so blatant that they’re impossible to miss. Atlas is the first pro-artificial intelligence film of its kind, practically propaganda. One of the film’s hidden messages is that AI doesn’t hurt society; the people who create it do. The other is that AI can be helpful if used in the right way.
The message from Atlas is on par with “guns don’t kill people, people don’t kill people,...

Arriving on the heels of “The Greatest Love Story Never Told” — a true milestone of superstar transparency where Jennifer Lopez expressed a clear-eyed view of her current career status — “Atlas” feels like an underwhelming return to the kind of projects that have maintained Lopez’ place in the Hollywood firmament, but not the ones that catapulted her there in the first place.
One of her few science fiction-themed films, its novelty alone should make it stand out, especially with Brad Peyton, a reliable purveyor of large-scale spectacle in the director’s chair. But a dearth of original ideas undercuts the appeal of “Atlas,” leaving Lopez to fend for herself in much the same way her character is forced to in the film’s formulaic story.
Lopez plays the title character, a coffee-addicted, “rigid and hostile” data analyst whose mother Val (Lana Parilla) developed the first artificial-intelligence being, Harlan (Simu Liu), when Atlas was just a child.

In recent years we’ve seen plenty of TV shows that seem like they should have been movies, and a few movies that might have been better as TV shows. Atlas suffers from a similar problem but fits into a third, lesser-seen category because, while it draws heavily from a number of classic sci-fi films, it’s a movie that seems like it really wants to be a video game.
Brad Peyton’s film opens with an expository montage introducing us to a world where an army of self-aware A.I.-driven robots, led by an android known as Harlan (Simu Liu), are waging an all-out war against humanity. And just as things appear to be reaching a point of no return, mankind whips out a surprise superweapon and quashes the rebellion, sending Harlan scarpering away on a rocket ship vowing that one day he’ll be back to finish what he started.

Netflix’s latest sci-fi thriller, Atlas, promises a gripping tale of artificial intelligence gone rogue but ultimately struggles under the weight of its ambitions. Directed by Brad Peyton and written by Leo Sardarian and Aron Eli Coleite, the film stars Jennifer Lopez as Atlas, a woman living in a future world who distrusts AI and is good at everything and smarter than everyone. The script teeters between high-concept and a showcase for Lopez’s versatility, and despite a decent premise for some futuristic thrills, Atlas often feels like a missed opportunity, hampered by sluggish pacing and a lack of depth in character development for everyone else except Atlas.
The film opens with a world in chaos. AI systems, once integrated into every facet of human life from transportation to medical care, have turned against their creators. The rebellion was instigated by Harlan (Simu Liu), an AI humanoid created by Shepard Robotics.

Technically, Atlas is a sci-fi flick. Set some unspecified number of years in the future, the Brad Peyton-directed feature concerns a data analyst (Jennifer Lopez) tasked with stopping “the world’s first AI terrorist,” a robot named Harlan (Simu Liu) who’d broken his own programming to orchestrate the slaughter of millions.
But Blade Runner this isn’t, and not just because its tepid script and uninspired visuals place Atlas within the ever-expanding box of Netflix movies best half-watched on planes. The robot war is mere pretext for the saga of a woman learning to love again, starring a celebrity whose public persona is largely built around her willingness to let herself love again. Never mind the fact that there is no actual human love interest — in structure and theme, Atlas is a J.Lo rom-com in shiny metal packaging.
Like its prickly heroine, though, Atlas takes time to reveal its true self.

Jennifer Lopez and her “Atlas” co-star Simu Liu shut down a reporter during a press junket in Mexico City for their new Netflix action movie after he asked Lopez if rumors are true she’s getting divorced from Ben Affleck. Rumors circulating online that Lopez and Affleck are ending their marriage have coincided with Lopez’s “Atlas” press tour, which included starry premieres in Los Angeles and Mexico.
“Ok, we’re not doing that,” Liu immediately told the reporter who asked about Affleck (via NBC News). “Thank you so much. We really appreciate it … come on, don’t come in here with that energy.
Lopez was even more blunt, telling the reporter: “You know better than that.”
Liu later heaped praise on Lopez, who both stars in and produced “Atlas.” Directed by “Rampage” and “San Andreas” filmmaker Brad Peyton, “Atlas” stars Lopez as a brilliant data analyst with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence.

The 54-year-old seemed unphased despite rumors flying that there’s trouble in paradise. Lopez smiled with co-stars and feted the sci-fi action thriller — all with a simple wedding band on her ring finger.

Network executives once came to the upfronts on a mission to get advertisers excited about a handful of new series coming in the fall. This year, TV’s big players took a T-shirt cannon approach.
Every one of the major presentations during the May 13-15 sprint in midtown Manhattan — NBCUniversal, Fox, Disney, Amazon, Warner Bros. Discovery and Netflix — emphasized the breadth of the company’s content offerings. Call it the everything-everywhere-all-at-once strategy for the streaming age.
As always, common themes emerged across the week. “Connections” was the buzziest of buzzwords used by executives pitching their hearts out from the stage. Without question, the song of Upfronts ’24, the one heard at most if not all events, was Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ’Em.”
After sorting through the firehose of shows and spin, here are a few trends that stood out this year.
1) Star-Power Surge
Last year, the writers strike kept boldface names from appearing at the upfronts.
