Netflix's Griselda is one of the best hits of 2024 so far, and there's a good reason that the show is breaking ground. Fans and critics alike have sung praises for the six-episode limited series.
The biographical crime drama tells the story of The Cocaine Godmother Griselda Blanco, who ruled the Miami underworld in the '70s and '80s and helped establish cocaine trade links between Colombia and the United States.
Sofia Vergara's role as the titular character is highly praised, and many want more to do with this crime drama. While we may not get more Griselda, there are several shows to watch that are similar to the series.
10. Weeds
Weeds is a funnier, lower-stakes version of Griselda, in a way. Hard times drive Nancy Botwin (Mary-Lousie Parker) into the marijuana trade. A widowed mother of two boys, this mom is willing to do anything for her family.

Hightown Season 2 is off and running.
The series continues to impress with its compelling characters, some of the most well-written on the small screen.
Hightown Season 2 Episode 4 is set to air Sunday, November 7, and finds Renee in a wild situation.
TV Fanatic has an exclusive clip of the game-changing episode.
Leslie calls Renee to a meeting. Jackie accompanies Leslie, and Renee is immediately concerned about what the two women want.
Renee was an informant at one point, and Leslie tries to act like Renee did the department such a big favor.
Renee is too smart and knows they are both after something else, and she doesn't want to betray Frankie in the process.
The trajectory of the conversation changes the moment Leslie says they want Jorge.
Jorge has been getting under Renee's skin since his arrival on Hightown Season 2 Episode 1, so of course she would love nothing more than to see his downfall.

Will having a badge now make it easier for Jackie Quinones (Monica Raymund) to take down drug dealer Frankie Cuevas (Amaury Nolasco), whom she holds responsible for her best friend Junior’s (Shane Harper) death? Based on the trailer for Hightown Season 2, it’s seems the answer is: no, not at all. “Frankie’s been out of prison a month and a half, and we haven’t done s**t,” she says. Who can blame her for being frustrated, especially since it looks like she’s having nightmares about Junior? But there’s a new product (deadly carfentanyl) on the street, flooding Cape Cod, and it’s up to the force to find out where it’s coming from and shut it down. Jackie has a new partner in the only other female on the force, Leslie (Tonya Glanz). Meanwhile, disgraced officer Ray Abruzzo (James Badge Dale) is still off the force,...

Half crime drama, half character study, Starz new series Hightown takes a dark, morally shaded genre usually populated by men and hands it to a woman. Created by showrunner Rebecca Cutter, that woman is jaded, fast-living National Marine Fisheries Service agent Jackie Quinones (Monica Raymund), whose hedonistic Provincetown lifestyle is thrown into disarray when she discovers a body in Cape Cod Bay, the apparent victim of the area’s opioid crisis.
Speaking during Deadline’s Contenders Television virtual event, Cutter revealed that, aside from some autobiographical touches that came from her own personal association with the Cape Cod area, the initial inspiration for the show was the character of Jackie herself.
“She’s this woman who’s really sort of unabashedly sexual, owns it, and doesn’t give a sh*t,” said Cutter. “We always joke that she’s the mayor of P-town in her mind, at least at the beginning of the pilot.

Cracking this case is going to put Jackie through the wringer.
Our hard-partying lead was in over her head on Hightown Season 1 Episode 2 as she started to understand that there was more to Sherry's death than the cops know.
The beauty of following Jackie as she tries to prove there is more to the case is that we know she's right, and it highlights how people who are addicted to drugs and alcohol when it comes to speaking about evidence.

Monica Raymund picked the perfect role for her full-time return to television.
As Jackie Quinones, Raymund is portraying a hard-partying woman, whose life is changed the moment she witnesses the dead body of a young woman washing up on the beach.
It's an inciting incident that sets up Hightown Season 1 very well, and after Hightown Season 1 Episode 1, I want more.
Many series premieres struggle to strike a balance between plot and characterization, but "Love You Like a Sister" was handled very well, introducing the characters on a need-to-know basis, before starting the process of fleshing them out.
Jackie's drive to crack the case, while simultaneously trying to kick her vices makes the show infinitely more interesting.
Jackie feels like the kind of role that would typically be written for a man, and the show brings a lot to the table by breaking the status quo.

The latest series from Starz is coming to the premium cable network on Sunday, May 17.
The premiere introduces us to Monica Raymund's Jackie Quinones, a national marine fishing services agent, who is unlike any other female TV lead in recent memory.
She's unapologetic, fun-loving, and battling some demons for good measure.
These demons come further out to play when she finds a corpse on the beach after a night of partying. While many people would be creeped out at the sight of a dead body, Jackie is eager to find out how the young woman came to be dead on the beach.
This is the inciting incident that sets us up for a season of thrills and chills. What was so fascinating about Raymund in the role was that this was the complete opposite of roles she's played in the past.

Hightown's long and winding road to the screen comes to an end this weekend as the Starz drama finally makes its debut.
The series focuses on a National Marine Services agent who changes her outlook on life when she finds a body on the beach.
She attempts to put her hard-partying and destructive behavior behind her to crack the case and pick up the pieces of her life at the same time.
Hightown was created by Rebecca Cutter, who told me in a recent interview about why she decided to make a series set in Cape Cod.
"I grew up going to Provincetown in the summers, and I married a man from Cape Cod, whose father was a fishery service agent like Jackie.
"A lot of the elements are from my life, but I think the real spark for the show was I had an image of Jackie Quinones in my head.

"I grew up going to Provincetown in the summers, and I married a man from Cape Cod, whose father was a fishery service agent like Jackie.
"A lot of the elements are from my life, but I think the real spark for the show was I had an image of Jackie Quinones in my head.

Sometimes, a setting has to do a bit too much work.
And while the series puts great effort into exposing other sides of the community, it doesn’t, elsewhere, transcend fairly simple character types, dragging us instead into recursive storytelling that’s outshone by the local color.
Jackie Quinones (Monica Raymund) is the character we follow most closely; she works for the National Marine Fisheries, but is drawn both into endemic local crime around the heroin crisis and deeper into her own addiction when she stumbles upon the dead body of a young woman in the water; she comes to work with a local cop (James Badge Dale) who’s connected to the victim, in the way of shows like these. Jackie is, among other things, our most significant representative of queer culture on “Hightown,” and she’s an interestingly chosen one: The wealthy white gay men who make Provincetown...

TV Fanatic: What drew you to Hightown?
Monica Raymund: I was drawn to the story, and even more so, the character Jackie Quinones. I just thought she was a very compelling character, and I wanted a shot at playing someone like that on TV.
What sets Jackie apart from other leads on TV?
She's flawed, messy, and gritty. She's really rough around the edges. With...

Monica Raymund can currently be seen in the Starz crime drama Hightown, but before she was navigating the rocky road to sobriety as Jackie Quinones, she was starring as the fearless paramedic Gabby Dawson, a fan favorite on Chicago Fire. After 6 seasons, she exited the show, but recently returned to NBC’s Chicago-verse for the season 8 midseason finale of Fire this past November. This posed the question: will she return again?
“You never know,” she tells Deadline during TCA. “The door is always open for Dawson to come back.”
She added that she loved being on the show for six seasons and enjoyed what they did with her character. She also admitted that she didn’t expect for the show to have such a rabid fanbase. More than that, she didn’t think there would be so much fandom surrounding Dawson.

For Hightown creator and executive producer Rebecca Cutter, the series is a reflection of what she loves: a “tough guy” story with “ball-breaking language.” The dark Starz crime drama tackles sobriety, Cape Cod’s opioid epidemic and a murder investigation, and Cutter said that we don’t see the female perspective from women in this type of gritty world — and Hightown serves exactly this.
During the show’s TCA panel Tuesday, Cutter was joined by a huge panel including fellow executive producer Gary Lennon, director Rachel Morrison as well as stars Monica Raymund, James Badge Dale, Riley Voelkel, Shane Harper, Amaury Nolasco, Atkins Estimond and Dohn Norwood.
The drama is right up Cutter’s alley as she grew up reading dark crime dramas by authors like Dennis Lehane, and it is told very much from a female perspective even if it is a “tough guy” story. The story hits close...

Exclusive: Former Prison Break star Amaury Nolasco and The Sinner alum Dohn Norwood are set for lead roles opposite Monica Raymund, James Badge Dale and Riley Voelkel in Hightown, Starz’s drama series from Rebecca Cutter, Gary Lennon and Jerry Bruckheimer TV.
Written and executive produced by Cutter, Hightown is a crime drama set amid the drug trade on Cape Cod, touched off when a body washes ashore and discovered by an irreverent National Marine Fisheries Service officer, Jackie Quinones (Raymund), who is determined to help solve the murder even if the state cops want her nowhere near the case. James Badge Dale also stars.
Nolasco plays Frankie Alvarez. Equal parts charming, clever, and terrifying, Frankie runs an opioid ring in Cape Cod – even from behind bars. As Ray’s “white whale,” he always seems one step ahead, from knowing where to deploy his muscle most effectively, to coercing his baby mama,...
