It’s been a minute since we checked in on Máximo, old and young, and Las Colinas. Actually, it’s been like 16 months in the real world, which is why it was a wise choice for the “Acapulco” Season 3 trailer to open with the exposition it did.
Máximo (Eugenio Derbez): “Hugo, do you remember where my rags-to-riches life story left off? It all started with a job as Las Colinas. I told you about my big promotion and Julia and I getting together — but there’s still so much more I haven’t told you.”
Smash Cut To: Season 2’s big cliffhanger moment. Oh that’s right, (old) Máximo has a grownup daughter we didn’t even know about. The trailer doesn’t really get into that storyline, but certainly the season will.

When “Swarm” co-creator Janine Nabers went to Amazon Prime Video with her hit horror limited series, she told the streamer she wanted an all-Black writers’ room.
As soon as “Swarm” hit Prime Video, buzz about the thriller show, well, swarmed. The BeyHive-inspired series centers on a violently obsessed fan (played by Dominique Fishback) who stops at nothing to see her favorite superstar artist. The idea for the series was a co-creation between Nabers and Donald Glover.
“When we approached the idea for ‘Swarm,’ it was really about how can we as Black people tell a story from a Black woman’s perspective that gives it that cinematic lens,” Nabers said in the latest installment of TheWrap’s “How She Did It,” sponsored by Prime Video.
While working together wasn’t new for Nabers and Glover as the pair previously worked together on FX’s “Atlanta,” coming together to pitch the unique,...

Janine Nabers, co-creator of Amazon Prime Video’s new thriller series “Swarm,” tells TheWrap how her fear and fascination of stan culture and fandom helped mold the idea for her and Donald Glover’s new buzzy BeyHive-inspired series.
Nabers says there’s fans, and then there’s people like Dre (Dominque Fishback), the main character in her new show, which is centered on the aloof, calculated and creepy superfan of the Beyoncé-esque R&b singer Ni’Jah. Despite having never met her, Dre feels there’s no wrong that Ni’Jah can do, as in her eyes she is the epitome of perfection, and if you express otherwise it could be the last breath you ever take.
While murder isn’t the option most fans would take to defend their favorite celebs, the show highlights the darkness, obsessiveness and sometimes jarring behavior stan and fan culture exhibits. Nabers says...

The Beyoncé-inspired thriller series “Swarm” comes with an EP carrying songs from Childish Gambino, Kirby and the show’s fictional star Ni’Jah.
If you didn’t love Beyoncé enough, now there’s a show that seems to be inspired by her and the singer’s enormous fanbase, the BeyHive. Dominique Fishback leads the eight-episode series, as obsessive and crazed fan Dre, who will go to violent lengths to defend her favorite Queen Bey-like R&b pop star Ni’Jah.
The show dropped on Amazon’s Prime Video on Friday and features six new tracks from some of Hollywood’s biggest music talents, including the show’s co-creator Donald Glover.

Swarm, the new Amazon series from the minds of Donald Glover and Janine Nabers, premiered (fittingly) on a dark and stormy Tuesday night in Hollywood. The subversive horror show, which stars Dominique Fishback as a woman turned mad by standom for a Beyoncé-like pop star, is part of the same universe as Glover’s Atlanta; several of the FX show’s writers and directors worked on Swarm, the first project from Glover under his overall deal with Amazon, as well.
“A lot of Atlanta — at least for seasons three and four that I worked on — was on the internet,” Nabers told The Hollywood Reporter on the carpet. “We launched a lot of YouTube videos, a lot of memes, a lot of stuff that lived on the internet. The culture of the internet was very present in Atlanta, and it’s very present in Swarm.” Another parallel that both shows have in common,...

"They are not your friends... Those are some crazy ass fans." Amazon has unveiled the main official trailer for a disquieting horror thriller series titled Swarm, an anti-hero tale of a woman obsessed with a pop star. They've been keeping the plot of this a big secret, with the creators Donald Glover and Janine Nabers saying it's inspired by Haneke's Piano Teacher and The King of Comedy (which is quite enticing). Swarm follows a young woman named Dre, played by Dominique Fishback, whose extreme obsession with a pop star takes a "dark turn". That's all they offer up so far but from this trailer it seems she goes over the deep end - murdering someone. For money? For more fame? Out of anger? The series also stars Chloe Bailey, Damson Idris, Leon, Rory Culkin, and Karen Rodriguez. It's clearly commentary on being infatuated with Beyonce, and about how celebrity obsession turns people into psychopaths.

"Who is your favorite artist?" Amazon has unveiled a first look teaser trailer for a fascinating new horror thriller series titled Swarm, an anti-hero tale of a woman obsessed with a pop star. They've been keeping the plot of this a big secret, with the creators hinting that it's inspired by Haneke's Piano Teacher and The King of Comedy. Swarm follows a young woman named Dre, played by Dominique Fishback, whose obsession with a pop star takes a "dark turn". That's all they offer up so far and this teaser doesn't show much more yet either. The series also stars Chloe Bailey, Damson Idris, Leon, Rory Culkin, and Karen Rodriguez. From some early hints, it's a riff on being infatuated with Beyonce, and where this leads her when she gets too obsessed. I really dig the various title cards in this, I'm now considerably curious to find out what's going on.
