Kate Middleton’s cancer announcement shocked royal watchers in March 2024. News of the diagnosis followed months of speculation after the Princess of Wales underwent a planned abdominal surgery. The latest on Kate’s health also came shortly after King Charles III revealed his cancer diagnosis.
While two working royals dealing with cancer diagnoses present a unique set of challenges, it is by no means uncharted territory for the House of Windsor. The United Kingdom’s ruling family has an extensive history of cancer among members of its family tree.

After Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their royal duties, the duchess revealed that she did not have an easy time adjusting to royal life and learning the many protocols that go with being a member of Britain’s most famous family.
In 2021, during her first primetime interview after she and Harry left the U.K., Meghan told former talk show host Oprah Winfrey that she was not even offered any type of guidance from anyone in her husband’s family. Now a video has resurfaced and divided fans about how much she really knew and didn’t know as the duchess is seen making a big royal blunder during an outing with the late Queen Elizabeth II.

In 2021, Pointless fans had to come to terms with the fact that change is the only constant in this crazy, crazy world when the show’s co-creator and co-host Richard Osman left to pursue other career opportunities such as being an incredibly successful crime novelist, and taking the main seat on his own game show Richard Osman’s House of Games.
Good for Richard Osman, it all seems to be very going well for him. But for Pointless?
Taking its cue from satirical current affairs show Have I Got News For You?, which settled on a revolving carousel of guest hosts when its regular host Angus Deayton was forced to step down instead of plumping for a permanent chair, Pointless has welcomed a series of co-hosts in the past couple of years.
First up were Sally Lindsay, Stephen Mangan, Lauren Laverne, Alex Brooker, Konnie Huq and Ed Gamble. Next came Andi Oliver,...

The holidays are a time of year when people get together with their families and loved ones to celebrate the festive period, and that’s no different for the royals. But after some back and forth on whether or not Prince Harry, his wife Meghan Markle, and their two children would get an invite to Sandringham to stay with the duke’s relatives for Christmas, it’s a foregone conclusion that’s not happening.
Many royal watchers predicted this as Prince William and the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) are said to be extremely angry with the Sussexes and aren’t ready to sit down for Christmas dinner together. Now though it’s being reported that King Charles feels the same way because seeing Meghan and Harry would make him very “nervous” about something.

It seems no member of the royal family is safe from the numerous allegations made in Endgame. The new book by Omid Scobie has leveled several claims against just about every working royal including Duchess Sophie (formerly the Countess of Wessex).
Many believe that the content in the book came directly from Meghan Markle because Scobie has often been referred to as the duchess’s “mouthpiece.” Although he has denied that Meghan had any involvement with the book plenty of royal watchers think if the information didn’t come directly from Prince Harry’s wife, it came from someone in her camp. That’s why Sophie is reportedly “fuming mad” at the author and Meghan over what’s been said about her in Endgame.

In the early days of royal life, Prince Harry reportedly had to tell Meghan Markle “what to do,” says a royal commentator once close to the Duke of Sussex. She claims Meghan had “unrealistic expectations” of her role as a royal family member.
Meghan Markle reportedly looked at her role within the royal family as an opportunity
Royal commentator and author Angela Levin spent an extraordinary amount of time with Prince Harry. She logged 15 months with the Duke when writing the book Harry: Conversations with the Prince.
Therefore, she has an inside look at how Prince Harry handled his relationship with Meghan Markle. Levin told Sky News Australia that Harry tried to warn Meghan how her life would change as a royal family member.
Levin contradicted commentary from Lady Glenconner, a childhood friend of the late Queen Elizabeth who claimed Meghan thought she would be “riding around in a golden coach” after her marriage.

Queen Elizabeth II’s career was, well, being queen. Her life changed at 10 years old when her uncle, King Edward VIII, abdicated, cementing her status as a future queen. However, in later years, she admitted if a career outside the royal family had been an option, she knew what she would’ve selected.

Think the queen would’ve made a career of breeding dogs or racing horses, given her lifelong love of dogs and horses? Wrong. Sure, she bred both horses and dogs. But, if given the opportunity for a different career path, neither would’ve been her first choice.
As royal author Gyles Brandreth told Radio Times, it went back to a certain entertainer who paid a World War II-era visit to Windsor Castle when...

Queen Elizabeth II’s calling. The late monarch had — and used — her own cell phone. Who the queen called the most, what about cell phones she didn’t quite get, and whose calls she always answered.

The queen’s cell phone went way beyond average. After all, this was the queen of the United Kingdom. It wasn’t gold or diamond-encrusted to rival the crown jewels. Rather, it came equipped with some serious tech.
The queen’s phone was “among the most advanced in the world,” per royal author Brian Hoey, (via Express). Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been enjoying a much different life from the rest of the royal family since leaving the United Kingdom for California back in 2020. They settled into a beautiful home in Montecito where they are now raising their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Archie was born in the U.K. and had a chance to get to know his relatives (though he won’t remember the meetings) while Harry and Meghan were still living over there during the first year of his life. Lilibet, however, has yet to travel the U.K. and has actually never even met Harry’s family. Now, the two kids will not be attending King Charles’ coronation in May, which has some feeling “sorry” for the royal pair.

King Charles and his younger son, Prince Harry, haven’t been on the best terms since Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, expressed frustration in their treatment as royals several years ago. The fallout has resulted in Harry and Meghan leaving the United Kingdom to start a new life in California, as well as several intense interviews from the couple, a Harry and Meghan documentary about the British press, and, of course, Harry’s bombshell memoir, Spare.
Despite the seemingly constant tension between Charles and his son and daughter-in-law, the king reportedly still has plenty of photos of the Sussexes gracing his home — could it suggest his door remains open to peace talks?

The Duke of Sussex recalls the escapade in his forthcoming memoir Spare, which is due for release on Tuesday (10 January) but leaked after it was accidentally released five days early in Spain.
You can read more about the biggest revelations from the book on The Independent’s live blog.
One of the most shocking stories in the book is the story of the first time Harry had sex, with the royal claiming he lost his virginity to an older woman in a field behind a “very busy pub”.
Harry refers to the incident as “a humiliating episode with an older woman who liked macho horses and who treated me like a young stallion”, adding: “I mounted her quickly, after which she spanked my ass and sent me away.

Judi Dench has reflected on some of her naughtiest moments – including the time she accidentally yelled “w***er” at a stranger.
The actor, while in conversation with broadcaster Gyles Brandreth at London’s Gielgud Theatre on Sunday night (27 November), said she thought it would be funny to shout at someone she had mistakenly identified as her friend, the impressionist Alistair McGowan, only to realise afterwards that it wasn’t him.
“I was driving along and saw who I thought was Alistair McGowan and I shouted ‘w***er’… and it was a total stranger,” she said.
The 87-year-old star added that the sight condition she suffers from – macular degeneration – has got her into trouble numerous times over the years.
In another awkward mishap, Dench said she was once on stage and thought she saw theatre director Howard Davies in the audience.
“So I got a piece of paper and folded it up and wrote on it,...

A new biography on Queen Elizabeth II will provide an unprecedented look into the late monarch’s final months.
Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait, written by former Member of Parliament Gyles Brandreth — described as a “friend and biographer of the royal family” — is being serialized in the Daily Mail ahead of its publication next month.
As the Mail reports, Brandeth addresses rumours that the Queen was suffering from a rare type of bone marrow cancer; while he neither proves nor disproves the rumours, if it were true, it “would explain her tiredness and weight loss and those ‘mobility issues’ we were often told about during the last year or so of her life,” he writes.

Frank Cottrell Boyce, who co-wrote two of Queen Elizabeth II’s most iconic on-screen cameos – at the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony with Daniel Craig and this year’s Jubilee sketch with Paddington Bear – said the monarch had “brilliant” comic timing and could have been an actor.
“She’s absolutely glowing in that moment,” he said of her appearance alongside Paddington in the 2-minute long sketch, which commenced her Platinum Jubilee celebrations in July. “And you’ve got to remember that that’s real acting that’s going on there. Paddington isn’t really in the room. She’s acting with an eye-line and with someone pretending to be Paddington. That’s proper acting going on. But I also think it’s true happiness.”

British TV icon Sir David Attenborough has remembered his friend Prince Philip at the head of the BBC’s coverage of the Duke’s funeral.
The Duke Of Edinburgh was widely praised for his appreciation of conservation and the environment, something to which broadcaster and naturalist Attenborough has devoted his life.
Attenborough said of Prince Philip: “He was right there at the beginning at a time when conservation didn’t mean much to many people. Even in the 1950s and ’60s he saw it universally. The World Wildlife Fund owed a huge amount to his presence. When he spoke about conservation, he spoke about it with passion and knowledge.”
Describing the Prince’s character, Attenborough said: “He was an extraordinary combination of being formidable and friendly. You knew he was there. He had an amazing presence. It was an extraordinary balancing act between formality and informality.”

As Britain and royal admirers around the world mourn the loss of Prince Philip, it seems the Duke of Edinburgh is finally at peace. Queen Elizabeth II's longtime husband and the longest-serving consort in British history died on Friday, April 9. He was 99—just two months shy of his 100th birthday—when he passed away "peacefully" at Windsor Castle, according to a statement from Buckingham Palace. While Philip's death is a great loss for the royal family and the world, it seems the former lieutenant never wanted to live long enough to become a centenarian. According to a piece published by The Telegraph in 2019, writer Gyles Brandreth recalled Philip telling him he...

The new trend in celebrity videos is about hand washing and social distancing. But trust a revered Oscar winner to add a dash of poetry. Dame Judi Dench appears in a short clip with her friend and fellow actor Gyles Brandreth as they lather up their hands for the required 20 seconds. Instead of singing a song or reciting a famous monologue they recite the opening verses of Edward Lear’s beloved poem The Owl and the Pussy-Cat.
Ever the showwoman, Dench even begins purring and nuzzling up to Brandreth when they reach the line “What a beautiful pussy you are.” Nice homage to your current movie, Dame Judi, but perhaps not keeping with the current guidelines for social distancing.

British radio and television legend Nicholas Parsons has died after a short illness. He was 96.
The BBC announced his death on Tuesday, marking his seven decades in TV and radio, and in particular, his hosting role on the iconic BBC Radio 4 gameshow Just A Minute.
Parsons hosted the show for more than 50 years, famously missing just a handful of recordings during that time. He also presented TV shows including Sale Of The Century, while as an actor, he appeared in Doctor Who and The Arthur Haynes Show. His most recent role was as the voice of demon Dagon in Amazon and BBC drama Good Omens last year.
Outgoing BBC director general Tony Hall said: “Very few people have done so much to entertain audiences over the decades, and no one deserves to be called a broadcasting legend more than Nicholas Parsons. His charm, inventive intellect and ability to create laughs were unsurpassed.

For young Princess Elizabeth, it was love at first sight.
“The first time I remember meeting Philip was at the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, in July 1934, just before the war. I was 13 years of age and he was 18 and a cadet,” she would later recall in a letter.
By the time he was invited to spend Christmas at Windsor Castle, Elizabeth was 17—and it was clear he shared her feelings. Their engagement was kept secret until the future monarch turned 21. And when they married in 1947, it was the first royal wedding to be broadcast on radio, heard and cheered by millions more around the globe.

They have the longest royal marriage in history – and that’s because Queen Elizabeth, 91, and Prince Philip, 96, who celebrate the 70th anniversary of their engagement on July 10, have an ideal dynamic, says their biographer Gyles Brandreth.

Here’s what makes their remarkable marriage work:
1. He makes her laugh
With his dry wit and famously uncensored humor, Philip has long been the person who can most bring a smile to the Queen’s face.

It sounded so surreal, we had to double-check it wasn't April Fools' Day when we first heard the news. A BBC theme park is in the early stages of development, and could arrive as early as 2020.
You could be riding the Only Fools and Horses wurlitzer or bashing against Nick Hewer and Karren Brady on The Apprentice dodgems in only 6 years' time. It may sound ridiculous, but the success of the Harry Potter Studio Tour suggests that cashing on huge entertainment franchises isn't actually a bad idea and might even work.
Here are our 9 best suggestions for possible rides. Any profits resulting from their success can be sent in an envelope to Digital Spy Towers.
1. The Top Gear Escape From Argentina Thrill Ride
A ride as fast as a lap with The Stig as you're taken on a whirlwind tour of a mocked-up Argentina, before an international incident means you have to escape.
