The Sci-Fi genre consists of some of the most inventive and life-changing films because by the very definition of the word the creators have to invent a fictional future or technology and while some of the films in this genre give us spectacle others give us a story that makes us think about the future and how our world is changing for better or for worse. So, today we thought of listing the best new sci-fi films you can watch at home right now and in this list, we didn’t include any film released before 2023.

Spoiler Alert: The following review contains spoilers.
Got trauma? A global alien invasion is all it takes for emotionally scarred Brynn (Kaitlyn Dever) to sort through her issues in “No One Will Save You,” an extraterrestrial creature feature cut from the same cloth as M. Night Shyamalan’s “Signs,” where the jump scares are secondary to an earnest (but far less effective) portrait of coping with guilt and grief.
Building on the novelty value of 2020 debut “Spontaneous” (in which a bunch of teenagers inexplicably start to pop like pimples), director Brian Duffield sets multiple creative challenges for himself and mostly succeeds — well enough to attract eyeballs to this buzz-worthy Hulu release, at least. Amusingly enough, one of the things liable to get people talking is Duffield’s decision to construct the film with hardly any dialogue.
Brynn’s a loner, living in a house that looks like it was decorated by a 12-year-old girl.

Bradley Cooper’s “Maestro” will close out AFI Fest on Oct. 29.
The film which screened at the Venice Film Festival to a 7-minute standing ovation follows the life of legendary stage composer Leonard Bernstein and his relationship with Felicia Montealegre (Carey Mulligan).
“’Mastro’ displays Bradley Cooper’s symphony of talent with the power of a cymbal crash,” said Bob Gazzale, AFI President and CEO. “It is AFI’s honor to shine a light upon this extraordinary work of art on the festival’s Closing Night.”
Aside from directing and starring in the film, Cooper co-wrote the script with Josh Singer. The supporting cast includes Matt Bomer (as Bernstein’s lover), Maya Hawke (as Bernstein’s daughter Jamie) and Sarah Silverman (as Bernstein’s sister Shirley).

Anne Rice is known for her vampires. Her 1976 novel Interview with the Vampire is considered a seminal text on the undead world thanks in large part to a progressive 1994 adaptation starring Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise. What many casual fans may not know is that Rice is also well-versed in the world of witchcraft. Published in 1990, her novel The Witching Hour is the first of a trilogy following the Mayfair Witches, a powerful family of New Orleans spellcasters.
After acquiring the rights to Rice’s entire catalog in 2020, AMC released an ambitious reimagining of her most famous text. Though it flew mostly under the radar, Interview With the Vampire premiered to positive reviews and has been praised for its exploration of race and sexuality while drawing viewers in with a campy tone. The network’s followup series, Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches stars Alexandra Daddario as a lost Mayfair daughter...

If, as Tolstoy put it, happy families are all alike, that’s probably because they’re opaque to the rest of us, for whom friction and rifts are as much a part of the kindred experience as love. Jesse, the hyper-observant only child at the center of Ricky D’Ambrose’s The Cathedral, takes in all the specifics of his unhappy family — not just his parents’ divorce when he’s 10, not just his father’s ongoing struggles, financial and otherwise, but the awkward silences and generational baggage, the rite-of-passage celebrations straining toward grace. The writer-director-editor’s microbudgeted sophomore film, now streaming on Mubi, juxtaposes remembered interactions and still-life shots with a deliberate, elliptical precision, the minor-key notes building to a chord that resounds with the ache of lost time and unexpressed emotions.

Exclusive: Mubi has picked up U.S. and Canadian rights to Ricky D’Ambrose’s The Cathedral starring Top Gun: Maverick’s Monica Barbaro.
Visit Films is handling international rights and will be bringing the feature to the Marché du film in Cannes, following a deal negotiated with Ryan Kampe and Lydia Rodman of Visit on behalf of the filmmakers.
The Cathedral is a semi-autobiographical account of Notes on an Appearance director D’Ambrose’s childhood as well as a reflection of the U.S. during a specific moment in time.
Spanning 20 years, the pic is a sprawling impressionistic portrait of the Damrosch family seen through the eyes of only child, Jesse Damrosch. As the family buckles under the weight of his parents’ disintegrating marriage, Jesse comes into his own as a young man and artist.

Last year, the small Southern African nation of Lesotho entered the Academy Awards race for the first time with Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese’s “This Is Not a Burial, It’s a Resurrection,” one of 28 features spawned over the past decade by Biennale College — Cinema, the workshop created by Alberto Barbera for emerging filmmakers to develop and produce micro-budget feature-length films.

No, this is not me revisiting that bonkers Nicolas Cage Flick from a couple of years back… This Army of One features Ellen Hollman, a superstar bad-ass leading lady in waiting!
Sometimes a simple premise, executed very well, can get you most of the way. There is no simpler movie concept than a family member going out for revenge for a murdered loved one. If there is then please do correct me but I feel like these stories have been done to death. It is only every once in a while that something like Taken, Death Wish or Law Abiding Citizen comes along and revitalizes things and then we are back to square one when, for the following years, everything is a carbon copy.
So how...

"Thought you were dead..." Uncork'd has released an official trailer for an indie action film titled Army of One, featuring "rising action star" Ellen Hollman (who has a role in the upcoming The Matrix 4) as "1st Lieutenant Brenner Baker of the Army's 75th Ranger Division". Not to be confused with the Nicolas Cage comedy also called Army of One from a few years back. While out hiking, Special Forces Ranger Brenner Baker stumbles onto a Cartel's compound. Her husband's killed and she's left for dead. The Cartel made two mistakes, killed her husband and left her alive. They won't live to make another – now she's coming after them. The cast also includes Matt Passmore, Geraldine Singer, Gary Kasper, and Cam Bowen. This is pure jingoism action filmmaking with the added benefit of watching a badass woman take down bad guys. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Stephen Durham's Army of One,...

Stars: Lauren Canny, Bryan Batt, Nora-Jane Noone, Cooper Andrews, Pollyanna McIntosh, John Spud McConnell, Geraldine Singer, Maddie Nichols, Mackenzie Michelle Graham, Jeff Pope, Eugenie Bonderant, Sabrina Gennarino, Thomas Francis Murphy | Written and Directed by Pollyanna McIntosh
The debut feature from actor-turned-writer-director Pollyanna McIntosh (The Walking Dead), Darlin’ is a stand-alone sequel to Lucky McKee’s visceral 2011 horror The Woman, in which McIntosh starred as an imprisoned feral woman wreaking hell on her captors. McIntosh reprises the role here, but her film has both a different focus and a different sensibility, skilfully blending coming-of-age and horror tropes to entertaining effect.
The film begins with the still-feral, nature-dwelling Woman (McIntosh) bringing an equally feral young woman – Darlin’, played by Lauren Canny and so named for the bracelet around her wrist – to the door of a hospital and leaving her there, for reasons that will eventually become clear. Darlin’ can’t speak and behaves like a wild animal,...

When I first heard about Darlin’ I was immediately interested in seeing it. Why? Well… Pollyanna McIntosh is an actress I’ve been a fan of since her incredible performance in the Lucky McKee film The Woman back in 2011. Since then I’ve enjoyed her in numerous roles, from White Settlers to to Let Us Prey, and even her role as Jadis in The Walking Dead before I threw in the towel on that show. Seeing McIntosh go behind the camera for the first time here was something that intrigued me greatly.

Netflix fascinates me, especially when it comes to their hopes at Academy Award attention. This is something I previously wrote about the service: “There’s a notable difference between the types of projects that Amazon and Netflix have been putting out, theatrically speaking. On the one hand, Amazon has been gunning for awards and embracing a theatrical release with things like the Oscar winner Manchester by the Sea. There’s also their burgeoning relationship with an auteur like Woody Allen. It’s a whole concerted effort under their Amazon Studios wing. On the other hand, Netflix has gone for casting a wider net, while only occasionally putting their higher profile films out in theaters, like Beasts of No Nation or this year’s Okja. They only once in a while look at things with an awards type view. So far, they’ve either come up short with would be players like War Machine,...
