Songwriter ("Somebody Else Is Taking My Place"), composer, entertainer
and author. He finished high school and then became a minstrel and
vaudeville performer for five years, writing his own material. During
World War I, he served as a Yeoman in the United States Navy, and
joined ASCAP in 1942 when his songs began to achieve note. His other
popular-song compositions include "Shut the Door, They're Coming
Through the Window", "I've Lost You, So Why Should I Care?", "In the
Town Where I Was Born", and "Put Me to Sleep With an Old-Fashioned
Melody".
