Jensen Ackles is set to lead a new action-thriller series at Amazon Prime Video from “One Chicago” alum Derek Haas, Variety has learned.
Titled “Countdown,” the official logline states the show begins “following a suspicious murder in broad daylight, which leads to LAPD officer Mark Meachum (Ackles) being recruited to join a secret task force of undercover agents from all branches of law enforcement to investigate. But as the truth of a more sinister plot comes into focus, the team must overcome their conflicting personal agendas to unite and save a city of millions.”
Amazon has given the show a 13-episode order. Haas created the series and serves as executive producer and showrunner. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios. Ackles and his wife Daneel’s production company, Chaos Machine, is currently under a first-look deal at Amazon MGM studios, while Haas is now under an overall deal at the studio.

Law & Order Svu faced some potentially dark days after Chris Meloni left the series. This would’ve required Mariska Hargitay to anchor the show as the lead, which a few weren’t sure would work.

Law & Order Svu has become one of the longest-running shows consistently on television. Its longevity even surpassed the original Law & Order, which currently has 23 seasons. This is partially because the original series was temporarily canceled in 2010 before being brought back in 2022. It was a feat that even left some of the show’s cast members rattled. Hargitay couldn’t help but be shocked at her show’s legs when she reflected on its enduring success.
“You have to take stock of these 21 years and the origins of it and how it happened and [Wolf’s] vision,” Hargitay once told USA Today.

Mariska Hargitay, in accepting her Anniversary Tribute honor at Tuesday’s inaugural Gotham TV Awards, focused on the unique mission of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
The star has appeared in 550 episodes over 25 seasons of the series (more than any other scripted TV actor), but she appeared to take nothing for granted onstage.
“The biggest thing for me to take in right now is that I get to work every day on a show that makes people feel less alone,” she said in a heartfelt speech at the gala held at New York’s Cipriani 25 Broadway. “That’s one of the most devastating effects on sexual assault and domestic violence is the isolation. Perpetrators depend on actual, literal isolation to commit their crimes and to leave victims with the trauma of deep, psychological isolation.”

FBI Season 6 can best be summed up in two words: Treading water.
Collins Dictionary defines treading water as "to be in an unsatisfactory situation where you are not progressing, but are just continuing doing the same things."
Ok, so maybe that definition is a little harsh when it comes to describing the latest FBI season.
Its powers-that-be did give viewers a dash or two of character development. Not the average amount they would have received from an entire season, but some.
Questions about the impact of those changes in the characters' lives will have to wait for the next complete season to be answered.
Yet ever present were those "ripped-from-the-headlines" storylines for which Dick Wolf is renowned.
The terrorists, the possibility of Armageddon, and the tense takes on terrible threats remained front and center. If anything, this procedural became even more procedural, if that's possible.

[This story contains spoilers from the May 22 finale of Chicago Pd, “More.”]
Chicago Pd’s season 11 finale — titled “More” — gives its viewers more than just an emotional sendoff of longtime fan-favorite character Detective Hailey Upton, played by Tracy Spiridakos, a young, loner police officer who spent nearly eight seasons dealing with deep emotional traumas from her backstory (her father was an alcoholic and physically abused her mother, Upton and her siblings when they were children). But the season’s 13th episode also provided closure for Jason Beghe’s Sergeant Hank Voight, who, like his protégé Upton, also walked a solitary path of loneliness and despair. But, were they alone?
“More” reveals that Upton and Voight may have felt alone, but they actually had each other. Subconsciously and consciously, they held one another up in their shattered lives of past failures, regrets, pains and heartaches. But for the two of them to really see and feel that bond, it would take violence, blood...

Law & Order Svu shook things up in a big way after Chris Meloni left the series. One of the major shifts was the development of Mariska Hargitay’s Olivia Benson. But doing so went against Dick Wolf’s one rule when it came to his Law & Order characters.

Meloni’s sudden departure from Svu resulted in many changes that still affect the show to this day. New characters like Kelli Giddish’ Amanda Rollins were introduced to help fill the role Meloni’s Elliot Stabler left behind. Not only that, but Meloni’s departure meant that Hargitay would be leading the show without her partner. This would put more focus on Hargitay’s Olivia Benson than ever before.

In Dick Wolf's Chicago One franchise, Chicago P.D. stands out as the most intense. Over the course of eleven seasons, the officers and detectives of the 21st District Intelligence Unit have faced devastating incidents that have deeply affected them and their loved ones.
Due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the new seasons of the Chicago One shows have undergone some not so pleasant changes, and Chicago P.D. has taken a big hit in terms of budget cuts, cast shifts, as well as the reduction of the total number of episodes in Season 11, and that's why the final episode will be hitting our screens very soon. The events of the past week have pushed the risks to the limit and none other than the head of the Chicago P.D. Intelligence Unit, Hank Voight (Jason Beghe), is now in mortal danger.

Camryn Manheim is leaving Law & Order, but you couldn’t have known that by watching the show’s season finale, which aired tonight.
Instead of a farewell, the focus centered on Tony Goldwyn’s Da Baxter, with Manheim’s character, Lt. Kate Dixon, barely featured. There was no indication during the show that she would be leaving.
Manheim joined the show as Lieutenant Kate Dixon in the Season 21 premiere, The Right Thing, though she had portrayed smaller roles in seasons 1, 3, and 4. Dixon is currently the commanding officer of the Manhattan North Homicide Squad’s 27th Precinct.
Earlier, a statement was issued to Deadline on Manheim’s imminent departure.
“I thank Camryn for her three wonderful seasons helping us relaunch Law & Order. She is a class act and I wish her nothing but the best for her next chapter,” shared series creator Dick Wolf in a statement.

“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host Jimmy Kimmel once again shared the Disney upfronts stage on Tuesday, providing his zingers in person for advertisers and media buyers at the programming presentation for the first time in five years. That’s because last year Kimmel didn’t attend due to the Hollywood WGA strikes. And in 2022, he was in New York — but had to be beamed in to do his routine after testing positive for Covid. (The 2021 and 2020 upfronts were virtual because of the pandemic.)
“Two years ago, I couldn’t be here in person because I had Covid. And last year, I couldn’t be here because of the writer’s strike. And this year I couldn’t think of a third excuse,” Kimmel said. “I tried diarrhea on the plane, but I guess they get that all the time now.”

Grey’s Anatomy is a relic by broadcast TV standards, but the long-running medical drama is about to get another shakeup.
Deadline reports that the renewal for Season 21 came with a pretty big caveat — a reduced budget.
The longer a TV series is on the air, the more costly it is to produce episodes.
Broadcast TV has always been a numbers game, and with reduced ratings across the board, changes have to be made to make shows profitable.
The first significant change is Jake Borelli’s departure.
Borelli, who played Levi Schmitt, has been a series regular for five seasons.
Levi Schmitt may get an ending
While the actor is not returning as a series regular, negotiations are underway to bring him back for a multi-episode arc during Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 to give Levi a satisfactory conclusion.

At this point, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Mariska Hargitay are almost synonymous, as one cannot exist without the other. While Hargitay will likely be fine career-wise once the show is over, Svu will not survive a single season without its 25-year-old leading lady on set.
While some fans feel that the show that has lasted so long can just wrap it up and become a nice distant memory, others want it to reinvent itself in a different version. And considering how much NBC makes off of Dick Wolf's franchises, that is a very realistic possibility.
Does Svu Have a Spinoff?
Even though the spinoff to a spinoff isn't a very popular concept, Law & Order: Svu, which is now so popular that it almost stands alone next to the whole bunch of other Law & Order shows, won't be the first to try it. The CBS sitcom Young Sheldon,...

Seth Meyers has been an annual tradition at NBCUniversal’s Upfronts. Much like Jimmy Kimmel at the Disney event, Meyers loves to roast the television industry and his own employer.

Law & Order may be returning for Season 24 on NBC, but one of its most familiar faces will be gone.
Camryn Manheim’s three-season run on the procedural will end on May 16 with the Law & Order Season 23 finale.
It’s unclear at this point whether Manheim is walking away from the show of her own volition or if she becomes another casualty of the mass exodus plaguing Dick Wolf’s long-running procedural dramas across the broadcast TV landscape.
Manheim was a large part of the revival’s success and has emerged as a fan favorite in the role of Lt. Kate Dixon.
“I had the most incredible experience being a part of the Law & Order Universe, and more importantly the Wolfpack,” the actress shared in an Instagram statement.
“I’m so thankful for the three wonderful seasons that I spent with this wildly talented cast of merry pranksters.”

CSI: Vegas and NCIS: Hawai‘i got canceled within one week of each other this season, marking disappointing results for two top TV franchises. Both CSI and NCIS ranked as the No. 1 scripted broadcast TV program in the United States at one point, and both of those shows spawned successful spinoffs… and at least one that was not so successful. Dick Wolf can relate. His long-running Law & Order franchise has had its share of flops, and even his successful One Chicago universe has had one of its shows flicker out. Criminal Minds, meanwhile, suffered losses with its first two offshoots. Read about all of these short-lived spinoffs below. Law & Order Svu‘s Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler have been shipped together for years, now. Mariska Hargitay has been fielding questions about the two characters coming together almost since the show’s inception. But lately, she’s grown more fascinated with another kind of shipping.
Mariska Hargitay reveals the kind of ‘shipping’ she wants ‘Law & Order Svu’ fans to really focus on Chris Meloni and Mariska Hargitay | Eric Liebowitz/Getty Images
Hargitay and Meloni’s characters have been involved in a sort of ‘will they, won’t they’ sub-plot for decades. At one point, this pairing seemed unlikely. Meloni’s Stabler was married with kids, then Meloni would leave the show entirely. This allowed Hargitay’s Benson to explore other romantic interests in the show, which had been rarely touched on before.
Benson’s love interests seldom worked out, however, and the character is still single and married to her work in Svu.

Law & Order is losing another veteran actor.
The NBC drama will bid farewell to star Camryn Manheim on May 16, the season 23 finale. The actress was a key part of the cast when Dick Wolf revived the flagship procedural for its 21st season.
Manheim becomes the second star to depart L&o this season with her upcoming exit coming on the heels of original star Sam Waterston, who exited in February as D.A. Jack McCoy. He had appeared in more than 400 episodes of the flagship series and returned to lead the revival that remains a high priority for both Wolf and NBC.
To fill the void created by Waterston’s exit, L&o recruited former Scandal favorite Tony Goldwyn to be the show’s new D.A. and join a cast that also includes Hugh Dancy, Reid Scott, Mechad Brooks and Odelya Halevi.

It’s official: There will no longer be an all Law & Order Thursday night on NBC. For its fifth season, Law & Order: Organized Crime is moving to the streaming service, Peacock. That breaks it up from airing Thursday nights after Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU, which also means that chances are there won’t be many (if any) crossovers. And of course, that leads to the inevitable question of what that means for the will they/won’t they slow burn of Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) and Svu‘s Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay). Organized Crime was created by Dick Wolf, Matt Olmstead, and Ilene Chaiken. It follows the detectives of the Organized Crime Control Bureau as they take on New York City’s most vicious and violent criminal syndicates. It brought Meloni back to the world of Law & Order in 2021, via a two-part crossover with...

“Law & Order: Organized Crime” has been renewed for Season 5, with the show now officially set to move from NBC to Peacock.
The news comes after weeks of speculation that the show would make the jump to the streaming service from the broadcast network. The Season 4 finale will air on NBC on May 16 and stream the next day on Peacock.
Moving “Law & Order: Oc” to Peacock is not altogether surprising. The show has lagged behind fellow Dick Wolf series “Law & Order,” “Law & Order: Svu,” and the three “Chicago” shows at NBC while still maintaining solid viewership. It also reportedly does very well on Peacock, particularly given its more serialized storylines, a departure from Wolf’s typical procedural format.
It was also the last Dick Wolf broadcast show awaiting word on its fate for next season. The other two “Law & Order” shows and all three “Chicago” shows were renewed back in March.

It’s a done deal — NBC’s Law & Order: Organized Crime starring Christopher Meloni has been renewed for a fifth season, which will be streaming exclusively on Peacock. As Deadline previously reported, Season 5 is expected to consist of 10 episodes, less than what the Wolf Entertainment series produced for NBC under normal circumstances but on the high end of an original streaming series whose seasons typically consist of 8 episodes. John Shiban is returning as showrunner.
The move gives the NBCUniversal streamer an original Dick Wolf drama series to go with the Wolf library and next-day runs of the company’s remaining NBC series Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., Chicago Med, Law & Order and Law & Order: Svu, which are among the platform’s most viewed titles.
