- Isn't a huge fan of classic rock music. He wrote School of Rock (2003) specifically so Jack Black could perform his own favorite rock music.
- Son of Mel White. Until the early 1990s. Mel White was a speech and ghostwriter for such evangelical, far-right Christian figures as Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson and Billy Graham. When Mel finally accepted his long-repressed homosexuality, he and his wife, Lyla, divorced amicably and Mel started a gay-rights organization called "Soulforce". Mike's mother, Lyla, later became executive director of the historic performing arts venue, Pasadena Playhouse in Pasadena, California.
- He got his first impulse toward writing scripts from his favorite teacher in second grade, the mother of playwright Sam Shepard.
- He and Jack Black formed a production company called Black and White.
- Is a two-time amazing race contestant with his father Mel. The first time they competed they lasted for seven legs and were eliminated in sixth place. The second time they competed they only lasted two legs and were in tenth place.
- I want to find myself in the other, and the point of it is that there is no other; it is you. That's the deepest connection you can make in art.
- I think the worst thing in the world is to take yourself too literally.
- If the artist isn't going to be honest, who is going to be honest?
- I have a dog who looks like a pig and would look at him and think: "You know? I can not eat pig anymore." And besides, is my dog really all that different from a pig on a factory farm? They both have their own lives and big personalities, and most importantly, the same capacity to feel pain. Once I made the connection, animal suffering became something I could not ignore. So if you have ever loved a cat or a dog, or even a human, I hope you will extend your compassion to include all animals. I am Mike White and I am a vegan.
- [on Chuck & Buck (2000)] The original nugget came from a scene earlier in the film where my character Buck grabs Chuck's balls. I thought it would be a real uncomfortable thing to start a movie off with a scene of a guy grabbing another guy's dick. Totally unrepentantly. Not like in your typical Dumb-and-Dumber-type comedy or an earnest gay movie. From that idea, I started to ask myself "What situation would lead to this?".
