The trailer for Kevin Spacey’s new film, Peter Five Eight, has been released from Invincible Entertainment. The new trailer comes just a few weeks after Spacey released another of his annual Christmas video skits of him reprising his popular character from House of Cards, Frank Underwood. In his most recent entry, Spacey controversially brought in former Fox News host, Tucker Carlson, to interview him in character where he teased a race for the White House. And now, Spacey is back in his first leading role since controversy plagued his image and his career in 2017. In Peter Five Eight, Spacey seemingly adopts his Underwood-esque southern drawl again until it’s revealed that he’s an undercover contract killer.
Spacey is joined by Jet Jandreau, Rebecca De Mornay and Jake Webber. The film is directed by Michael Zaiko Hall, a former visual effects artist whose credits include The Incredibles 2,...

Kevin Spacey plays a killer with no moral compass in the official trailer for Peter Five Eight, which marks his first leading role since his career imploded amid allegations of sexual misconduct in 2017.
Spacey’s assassin character, Peter, has a comedic streak as he’s called to a small mountain community to find a seemingly glamorous real estate agent with a dark secret, played by Jet Jandreau.
Peter targets Brenda, played by Rebecca de Mornay, for information at the urging of his powerful and shadowy boss, Mr. Lock, played by Jake Weber. Before long, guns are drawn and fired and car chases abound in the trailer as blood splatters and explosions disturb the sleepy town. Michael Zaiko Hall directs the feature.

After taking a look back at House II: The Second Story (a favorite of mine since childhood), House of 1000 Corpses (which celebrated its 20th anniversary last year), the awesomeness of Tales from the Crypt Presents: Demon Knight, the leg smashing in the Stephen King adaptation Misery, three separate moments from John Carpenter’s Big Trouble in Little China, and the “Jason vs. Tina” battle in Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood, JoBlo’s own Lance Vlcek is continuing his The Best Scene video series with a look at the opening action of director Zack Snyder‘s 2004 Dawn of the Dead remake (watch it Here). This is when zombie hell breaks loose and Johnny Cash kicks in on the soundtrack. You can hear all about it in the video embedded above.

The 2021 movie, which Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan directed, follows Jake Weber’s Owen as he realizes his life may be in danger following a gas explosion at his boss’ house.
Before being successfully assassinated, he tells his son, Connor, how he is a forensic accountant who finds things that do not add up. After he dies, Connor is left on the run with nowhere to go as two hitmen scour the area in hopes of finding him and his father’s secrets, which are scribbled down on scraps of paper.

When Zack Snyder's "Dawn of the Dead" dropped in 2004, it earned scrutiny and praise alike. As a loose re-imagining of George A. Romero's 1978 zombie classic, it was evaluated against the original "Dawn of the Dead." Fans noticed the difference immediately; whereas the Godfather of Horror set his apocalypse survivors in a mall as a commentary on consumerism, Snyder's mall was one great, glossy epicenter for action sequences. Proponents of Snyder's movie, like /Film's Joshua Meyer, hailed said sequences like its famous cold open as the best possible use of Snyder's music video experience, whereas Romero would tell Simon Pegg in 2005 (re: Snyder's remake), "The first 15, 20 minutes were terrific, but it sort of lost its reason for being. It was more of a video game."
For screenwriter and now-DC Studios co-head James Gunn, it's true that social commentary on consumerism wasn't at the forefront of his mind during the writing process.

The film will be Nolte and Bisset’s third together, on the heels of Peter Yates’ 1977 treasure-hunter adventure The Deep, based on Peter Benchley’s 1976 novel of the same name, and Til Schweiger’s 2018 Alzheimer’s dramedy, Head Full of Honey.

"Where's my daughter?!" Paramount has launched a trailer for a revenge action thriller titled Every Last One of Them, arriving direct-to-vod this week if anyone wants to actually watch this. Paul Sloan stars as an ex-Black Ops soldier named Jake Hunter, who's desperate to find his missing daughter. As he uncovers the terrifying truth surrounding her disappearance, he goes on a merciless quest for revenge, bringing those responsible to justice. His search uncovers a larger conspiracy involving a Chinatown-esque capitalism deal over water rights. The cast includes Jake Weber, Taryn Manning, Mike Hatton, Michael Madsen, along with Richard Dreyfuss. This seems as trashy as they come. Not only does the footage look stale, but with the most bland and unexciting plot that has been done a thousand times before in so many better films. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Christian Sesma's Every Last One of Them, direct from...

Season three of international thriller drama series Departure, headlined by Archie Panjabi, has begun production in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Toronto. Will & Grace alum Eric McCormack has joined the series, produced by Shaftesbury in association with Corus Entertainment, Starlings Television and Red Arrow Studios International.
Departure, whose existing two seasons are streaming on Peacock, was renewed for a third season by Canadian network Global in May. Peacock picked up Seasons 1 and 2, which also starred the late Christopher Plummer, after screening them so it is too early to say if the streamer will also take in Season 3.
Created by Vincent Shiao, with Jackie May serving as showrunner and Canadian Screen Award winner T.J. Scott as director, Departure centers on the mystery of The Queen of the Narrows ferry, destined for St. John’s Newfoundland, which sinks in record time with many of its 500 passangers on board.

Trauma seems to, unfortunately, affect us all. No matter the degree of severity, no matter if you believe you’ve moved past it, trauma lingers like a bad taste in the mouth. Trauma in childhood especially can have effects that last a lifetime, and that’s exactly what director Vincent Grashaw explores in his latest film, What Josiah Saw. Written by first-time feature writer Robert Alan Dilts, the film delves into how childhood trauma manifests in people throughout their lives in different ways. It’s the type of trauma that is impossible to cure, but for the Graham siblings, they believe they can get at least some closure when they are enticed to sell the property that has their haunted past buried deep in its walls. But ridding ourselves of our trauma is never that easy, and for them, there’s no running from their past. What Josiah Saw is...

Josiah Graham (Robert Patrick) doesn’t believe in God. To look at him and witness his actions is enough to know this truth, but his words have never been afraid to ensure those sentiments prove undeniable anyway. So he smirks when his youngest son dares to say grace before their latest meal. He starts telling a fantastical story about a dancing leprechaun that he saw outside his window that morning. Tommy (Scott Haze) laughs—both because it’s a humorous anecdote told in humorous fashion and because he’s a bit simple insofar as judging when someone is pulling his leg as a means to cut deeply with malice. His smile fades upon telling his father leprechauns aren’t real because Josiah’s face has turned to a scowl. “Neither is God,” he says.

This article contains Those Who Wish Me Dead spoilers. You can read our spoiler-free review here.
What’s on the piece of paper? Why exactly do Aidan Gillen and Nicholas Hoult want this Connor kid dead so badly? The ending of Taylor Sheridan’s Those Who Wish Me Dead is purposefully vague about what all this killing was about. But as a news crew approaches the young lad, played by Finn Little, it becomes clear he is going to tell a story that a lot of shadowy people wanted to keep hidden.
So what is that story and why did so many people have to die for it? The exact details remain hidden, but if we look at the whole structure of the movie, there are enough context clues to have a pretty good idea of what all the dying is for.

Reaffirming Angelina Jolie’s interest in efficient action storytelling, co-writer/director Taylor Sheridan’s Those Who Wish Me Dead, adapted from Michael Koryta’s 2014 novel, is a lean throwback to the type of muscular ’90s and early ’00s films that eschewed world-building and IP in favor of streamlined set-pieces. While the film still telegraphs the brand of gruff masculinity that made Sheridan your dad’s favorite screenwriter/showrunner, this time grafted onto Jolie’s hard-drinking smoke jumper Hannah, Those Who Wish Me Dead works mainly because it moves quickly and effectively. Distilling plot and character down to basic archetypes, Sheridan’s film is less concerned with the weighty thematic issues that sometimes bogged down his previous work, and is more than happy to showcase Jolie ridiculously contending with the compounding issue of simultaneously fighting assassins and a raging wildfire.

Taylor Sheridan's latest action flick has a workmanlike solidity but despite the repeated presence of physical infernos it never manages to get beyond a low heat in terms of tension. Most of the problem lies with the fact that it lacks any firm emotional core. There are a lot of good actors here - Angelina Jolie, Jake Weber, Nicholas Hoult, Adrian Gillen and others besides - but by failing to fully commit to building at least one character's emotional arc before the wildfires start, writer/director Sheridan feels as though he is creating a by-the-numbers version of his much better work, like Wind River and Hell and High Water, although the latter was also lent additional verve by the direction of David Mackenzie.
Sheridan is a lover of landscape and archetypes and Those Who Wish Me Dead - adapted from the book by Michael Kortya - is full of both.

Based on a novel by Michael Koryta, Those Who Wish Me Dead is the second feature film directed by Taylor Sheridan, the writer and actor whose previous writing and directorial effort was Wind River with Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen. Sheridan has also penned acclaimed screenplays for both Sicario films and Hell or High Water, in addition to co-creating and writing the TV series Yellowstone.
Those Who Wish Me Dead shares several common elements with all of these works, in that it is largely set in a vast rural area of the United States–in this case Montana–and it loosely follows the structure of a classic Western updated for the modern era. But while Sheridan tries to capture a sense of foreboding and danger from the start, and stacks the story with a formidable list of actors, the film never quite attains the urgency or connection with its characters...

The “Me” in “Those Who Wish Me Dead” is 12-year-old Connor Casserly (Finn Little), who’s been riding in the passenger seat of his father’s car when a pair of trained assassins pop up along the forest road and perforate the windshield with bullets. The car smashes through the guardrail and plows down the slope, hitting a tree. Dying dad (Jake Weber) orders his son to get out and find someone he can trust (Angelina Jolie plays “Someone He Can Trust”), and Connor goes scrambling off into the woods as the two men come back to finish the job. Except the job — snuffing any and everyone who might know something about the crime they’re trying to cover up — is far from done.
The killers now turn their attention to Connor, and they’re ruthless enough to start a forest fire to cover their tracks (and maybe barbecue the...

Angry, boozy and haunted by her past, a smoke-jumper faces unexpected dangers in this fierce action film set in the Montana wilderness
Angelina Jolie is back in a meaty action role for this watchable western thriller: playing a firefighter in the Montana wilderness, of all the wildly improbable things. But her natural queenly hauteur, with wide imperious gaze and bee-stung lips, always creates the impression that despite her respirator, axe, smoke-smudged T-shirt and jeans, some functionary is at any moment going to stumble through the flame and debris with her crown on a plump cushion, ready to restore Angelina to the Romanov throne.
Those Who Wish Me Dead is freely adapted from the 2014 bestseller from Michael Koryta, who has written the screenplay with director Taylor Sheridan, a film-maker renowned for tense, taut pictures such as Sicario, Wind River and Hell or High Water. Another film for which he wrote the screenplay,...

Her firefighter struggles to save a young witness from very bad gangsters and a blazing inferno
Every student who’s ever taken a creative writing course has heard the phrases “man versus man” and “man versus nature,” but one imagines filmmaker Taylor Sheridan circling them both in his notebook and jotting, “Yes. This.” in the margin. His work as writer and/or director of films like “Hell or High Water” and “Wind River,” as well as the TV show “Yellowstone,” often sets his characters against nature, both in the compositional and confrontational sense.
Sheridan’s very much in his wheelhouse in “Those Who Wish Me Dead,” a tale of a firefighter seeking redemption, a sheriff and his wife fighting for survival, and a young witness trying to elude his captors, and all of them coping with a massive forest fire in Big Sky country. The stakes are high and the...

"Why burn it?" Warner Bros has unveiled a new "Exclusive Look" extended preview for Taylor Sheridan's Those Who Wish Me Dead, arriving in theaters + on HBO Max at the end of this week. It seems they're trying to build some extra buzz for this, since there isn't much yet. While reeling from the loss of three lives she failed to save in a fire, smoke jumper Hannah comes across a traumatized 12-year-old boy with nowhere else to turn. Another tricky, twisty Sheridan plot - this one involving everything from assassins to forest fires to federal agents and much more. Starring Academy Award-winner Angelina Jolie, based on Michael Kortya’s novel. This also stars Nicholas Hoult, Finn Little, Aiden Gillen, Medina Senghore, Tyler Perry, Jake Weber, and Jon Bernthal. The first trailer last month was solid, and this is a much better look at what to expect. It starts with a 3-minute clip,...
