Universal Pictures is making a sequel to “Midnight Run,” the 1988 action comedy starring Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin.
Regina Hall, the actor best known for “Girls Trip” and “Scary Movie,” is starring in the follow-up. It’s unclear if De Niro is reprising his role as bounty hunter Jack Walsh in the buddy action film, but he will be involved in the new version as a producer.
Aeysha Carr is writing the screenplay, though plot details and additional cast members have been kept under wraps.
The original “Midnight Run” sees De Niro play a bounty hunter who pursues a former Mafia accountant after he skips bail.
Variety offered high praise to the 1988 film, calling it “one of the most entertaining, best executed, original road pictures ever.” The review was particularly complimentary to the dynamic between De Niro and Grodin, with Variety’s critic saying “‘Midnight Run’ shows that Robert...

The next edition of Universal’s 1988 cult classic comedy Midnight Run is finally happening after fits and starts throughout the years this time as a sequel we’re told. Regina Hall is set to star and produce in the feature which is being written by Brooklyn Nine-Nine scribe Aeysha Carr and also produced by Jesse Collins.
The details of the new version are being kept under wraps. The original movie marked multi-Oscar winner Robert De Niro’s pivot into broad mainstream comedy, the actor playing Jack Walsh, a bounty hunter whose job it is to collect mob accountant, Jonathan Mardukas, played by the late Charles Grodin, and get him to Los Angeles. The only thing is the accountant can’t fly, putting the easily irritable bounty hunter and fastidious accountant on an endless road trip in which they’re pursued by the Feds and a rival bounty hunter, Marvin Dorfler,...

At a time when we are all in such desperate need for good news, the announcement that Charles Grodin has passed away comes as an especially cruel punch to the gut. In everything he appeared in, he glittered like a rare jewel and perhaps it’s only now that he’d left us, that we’ll realise what an invaluable jewel he was.
In a career that stretched back to the 1950s, Grodin was an actor, director and a successful writer too, more comfortable on stage or sat behind a typewriter. It was on screen though that his magically droll, put-on persona came to worldwide attention.
Smaller parts in films like Rosemary’s Baby and Catch-22 gave way to major roles in The Heartbreak Kid and the 1976 King Kong remake. In everything he did, no matter how talented his fellow cast members were, it was more often than not Charles Grodin...

“See ya in the next life,” The Duke and Jack Walsh say to each other near the end of Midnight Run, one the moviedom’s great buddy-action flicks. Charles Grodin, who played bail-jumping mob accountant John “The Duke” Mardukas in the 1988 film, died today at 86. His co-star, two-time Oscar winner Robert De Niro, paid tribute to the late actor today.
“Chuck was as good a person as he was an actor,” De Niro said in a statement. “Midnight Run was a great project to work on, and Chuck made it an even better one. He will be missed. I am very, very sad to hear of his passing.”
Midnight Run also was a great project to watch.

It's hard not to associate Robert De Niro with the killers he's played — a young Vito Corleone, a dangerous Travis Bickle, a swaggering Al Capone and the lethal gangster Jimmy Conway. But it was his bounty hunter Jack Walsh in 1988's Midnight Run that convinced Jay Roach he had found the perfect man to play the intimidating father-in-law for Meet the Parents, his 2000 comedy that would eventually gross $330 million and spawn two sequels.

“Jack, you’re a grown man. You have control over your own words.”
“You’re goddamn right I do. So here come two words for you: shut the fuck up.”
Over the course of Midnight Run, bounty hunter Jack Walsh (Robert De Niro) and fugitive accountant John “Duke” Mardukas (Charles Grodin) travel over 3000 miles as they crisscross America by virtually every mode of transportation possible: commercial jet and biplane, passenger train and cargo train, three stolen cars and a borrowed station wagon, even a brief swim through rapid waters. They...

Even in Chatswin, people die.
When Marty Krupp (guest star Jack Walsh) -- the old guy who frequents the sauna at the country club -- passes away, the town gathers to remember him, as you can see in this clip -- exclusive to Zap2it -- from Wednesday's (Feb. 27) "Suburgatory."
It's a particularly Chatswin celebration of Marty's life. Dalia (Carly Chaikin) sings, in her very Dalia way, "Send in the Clowns," until Noah (Alan Tudyk) interrupts her and tries a few jokes. Dallas (Cheryl Hines), meanwhile, is sporting tribute nails.
At least Dalia has some feeling for poor Marty: "He was mishpucha [family] to me," she notes.
"Suburgatory" airs at 9:30 p.m. Et Wednesday on ABC. What do you think of the clip?...
