Los Angeles, Feb 2 (Ians) Filmmaker James Mangold, who is known for films such as ‘The Wolverine’ and Logan’ among many others is in early talks to take on ‘Swamp Thing’ for DC Studios.

Mangold is a comic book veteran after writing, directing and executive producing the R-rated superhero movie ‘Logan’, the third ‘Wolverine’ film starring Hugh Jackman, which is regarded as the pinnacle of the ‘X-Men’ movie franchise.
However, the filmmaker has a particularly busy dance card, with ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ set to hit theaters in May and Searchlight’s Bob Dylan biopic ‘A Complete Unknown’, starring Timothee Chalamet, up next.

James Mangold may be trading in his whip for a trip to swamp country.
Mangold, who has Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny hitting theaters in May, is in early talks to be one of the first writer-directors to join James Gunn and Peter Safran’s roster of filmmakers at DC Studios.
Mangold is in discussions with the Warner Bros. arm to take on the feature adaptation of Swamp Thing, the supernatural horror-based hero who is a focal point in the first chapter of DC Studios’ slate.
Gunn and Safran unveiled their slate Tuesday. Swamp Thing was the last of the 10 projects talked about and was tonally the darkest. The executives didn’t mention Mangold at the time, as sources say that talks are still in the early stages.
Still, Mangold on Tuesday night tweeted a simple (but moody and poetic) image of Swamp Thing, drawn by co-creator Bernie Wrightson.

Last week, The Ritual and The Night House director David Bruckner’s Hellraiser reboot earned its R rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board. Now Hulu has released a short video that gives us our first (albeit somewhat obscured) look at Jamie Clayton (Sense8) as Pinhead and reveals that the new Hellraiser will be available to watch through the streaming service as of October 7th. You can check out the 15 second video in the embed above.
Producer David S. Goyer came up with the story for the new film, and the screenplay was written by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski (Super Dark Times). Based on Clive Barker’s novella The Hellbound Heart, the film has the following synopsis:
A young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension.

The Hellraiser franchise returns to life with a brand new Hulu Original movie, and this morning we’ve learned that Hulu’s Hellraiser will debut on the service on October 7, 2022.
Check out the date reveal below, which gives us a sneak peek first-look at “Sense8” actress Jamie Clayton as our brand new Hell Priest. Oh yes, there will be pain…
Hulu has been having a hell of a year on the horror front, kicking things off with Fresh and more recently reviving the Predator franchise with Prey. If the critically acclaimed latter film was any indication, Hulu is taking their horror franchise reboots very seriously, which bodes well for their new Hellraiser movie. We could be in store for a real treat with this one.

The Ritual and The Night House director David Bruckner is rebooting the Hellraiser film franchise with a movie that will be released through the Hulu streaming service. Nearly a year has gone by since we’ve heard anything substantial about the project (which began filming last September), but now we finally have an update: Bruckner’s Hellraiser has been screened for the ratings board at the Motion Picture Association and has officially earned an R rating! The movie got its R for “strong bloody horror violence and gore, language throughout, some sexual content and brief graphic nudity.” That definitely sounds like a proper Hellraiser movie.

Picture the scene: A camera pans over the charred remains of what was once a large section of dense rainforest in the Central American banana republic of Val Verde. Suddenly, the cloaked feet of a Predator come into view. The alien hunter plunges a barely visibly claw down into the ashen ground where flora and fauna once flourished. A second later, the severed arm of a Predator is pulled from the shattered earth. The semi-visible Predator makes a bee-line for his fallen comrade’s wrist-based computer.
A read-out appears on its screen, detailing everything that led to this point. The replay stops on the image of a human face: it’s a face audiences know all too well from a decade of action movies. Right here and right now though, they know him as Maj. Alan “Dutch” Schaefer. Without saying a word, the Predator knows this is its next target.

You can never keep a good horror franchise down for too long, and there are currently two new Hellraiser projects in the works, one a feature film reboot and the other an HBO series. There’ve been reports that the big screen reinvention for the long-running brand could end up being delayed, though, after creator Clive Barker filed a lawsuit to regain the rights to the source material.
We haven’t heard any further updates for a few months now, but presumably Barker is much more enthusiastic about the HBO series being spearheaded by Halloween duo David Gordon Green and Danny McBride, because he’s signed on as one of the executive producers. Green is also set to direct the first few episodes, while the scripts are currently being hammered out by Battlestar Galactica veteran Mark Verheiden and Godzilla: King of the Monsters director Michael Dougherty.

Clive Barker is returning to surprise the horror fans.
The 68-year-old author and filmmaker who helped kickstart the horrifying 'Hellraiser' franchise with his 1986 novel, The Hellbound Heart, and it's 1987 film adaptation, has reportedly joined HBO's 'Hellraiser' TV show as an executive producer.
The series is being written by Michael Dougherty (Trick r’ Treat) and Battlestar Galactica’s Mark Verheiden, the latter of whom will serve as showrunner.
HBO announced the new series back in April with 'Halloween' director David Gordon Green attached to direct pilot and additional episodes during the season.

The CW has acquired former DC Universe series Swamp Thing, based on the DC character, along with Canadian drama Coroner and half-hour British comedy Dead Pixels, from BBC Studios, in their U.S. debuts. All will premiere on broadcast and the network’s free ad-supported streaming platforms. They join previously announced Tell Me A Story, from CBS All Access. Premiere dates and times will be announced later.
The CW is known for using acquired scripted series as summer programming. This year is different as there is a lot of uncertainty over when TV series will be able to go into production amid the coronavirus pandemic, so it is possible that the CW would use some of the acquisitions for late summer or fall to give its originals more time to produce new episodes. The CW is expected to unveil its fall schedule on Thursday.

Somewhere in the bowels of HBO right now, there is probably an executive smirking, “We have such sights to show you.” After all, the prospect of a big budget television adaptation of the Hellraiser franchise on the premium cable network would be a hell of a sight, indeed.
Deadline was the first to report HBO has made a deal to develop a Hellraiser TV series with some big names attached, including David Gordon Green at the top of the list. Green became a horror genre darling after successfully rebooting Halloween for its 40th anniversary in 2018 with a box office hit that brought Jamie Lee Curtis home to the franchise. And he’s now signed on to direct the Hellraiser pilot about Cenobites and Hellworlds as well as several more episodes of the show should it be ordered to series.
Joining Green as executive producers are Mark Verheiden and Michael Dougherty,...

And he’s now signed on to direct the Hellraiser pilot about Cenobites and Hellworlds as well as several more episodes of the show should it be ordered to series.

After catching his big break in Hollywood directing stoner comedies Pineapple Express and Your Highness, David Gordon Green has spent the last decade branching out as a filmmaker, moving into drama with the likes of Joe and Stronger before pivoting into horror with his reinvention of the Halloween franchise alongside Danny McBride, with the duo’s venture into uncharted territory resulting in the most successful outing for Michael Myers yet.
Green and McBride are currently hard at work on sequel Halloween Kills, before moving straight onto their trilogy-closer Halloween Ends, but it looks like they’ll be staying in the horror genre for a while yet, with the news that Green has signed on to direct the pilot episode of HBO’s Hellraiser series, as well as serving as an executive producer with McBride as part of their Rough House Pictures Banner.

HBO has such sights to show you... Last summer it was revealed that a Hellraiser TV series was in development with producers Roy Lee (It) and Dan Farah (Ready Player One) attached. While the series didn't have a network to call home then, it certainly does now, as Deadline reports that HBO has "made a deal" to create a Hellraiser series.
Deadline also reveals that David Gordon Green (2018's Halloween) will direct "the pilot and several more initial episodes" of the Hellraiser series, with Mark Verheiden and Michael Dougherty on board as writers for the new show.
Green, Verheiden, and Dougherty will also executive produce the series alongside Lee, Farah, Lawrence Kuppin, David Salzman, Rough House Pictures' Danny McBride, Jody Hill, and Brandon James, as well as Eric Gardner of Panacea Entertainment.
Rather than a remake, Deadline reports that the series will be an "...elevated continuation and expansion of the well-established Hellraiser mythology.

HBO is in the market to raise Hell.
The network is currently developing a series based on the “Hellraiser” film franchise, which in turn was based on Clive Barker’s novella “The Hellbound Heart,” Variety has confirmed.
The prospective series will not be a reboot of “Hellraiser,” but rather “an elevated continuation and expansion” of its mythology, according to sources with knowledge of the project.
Mark Verheiden and Michael Dougherty are writing the project, while David Gordon Green, whose credits include “Halloween” and whose longstanding relationship with HBO extends to “Eastbound & Down,” “Vice Principals” and “The Righteous Gemstones,” is attached to direct several episodes.
This new project is unrelated to the big screen “Hellraiser” revival from “Dark Knight” writer David S. Goyer, which was announced at Spyglass Media Group almost a year ago.

I was just the right age for Swamp Thing when he shambled into comics back in the early 1970s. I had years of super-heroes committed to memory so I was primed for something different. Along came Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson’s creation and it dealt nicely with familiar horror tropes but with enough of a twist to feel different along with continuing characters and exquisite artwork.
The arrival of Swamp Thing on DC Universe was equally well-timed in that we’ve had plenty of super-hero films and live-action television so it was a welcome addition to their initial lineup. Then came the news that there was trouble on the set, the series order was cut, then canceled after one ten-episode season. We were left with plenty of unfulfilled potential.
For those who missed out on the show, Warner Home Entertainment has released Swamp Thing the Complete Series in a fine Blu-ray package.

At first, I was somewhat lukewarm when it came to the newly launched Swamp Thing TV series. But as it gradually unfolded and picked up the pace, I found myself falling in love with it. In my view, it’s a beautiful show when you get down to it. It’s well-acted and cleverly written, and Friday the 13th alum Derek Mears conveys such emotion as the titular creature. I can’t help feeling for him every time he’s onscreen.
Unfortunately, only one more episode remains, as Warner Bros. and AT&T pulled the plug on Swamp Thing while it was still filming. Originally, it was set to consist of thirteen installments, but was then trimmed down to ten. Needless to say, I’m hoping that everything can be wrapped up in the finale set to air later this week.

I think it’s fair to say that pretty much everybody was blindsided by the cancellation of the recently launched Swamp Thing show. For those unfamiliar with the situation, know that Warner Bros. pulled the plug on the series after only one episode had the chance to air. Yes, all ten installments will be shown, but the continued marketing push that’s seen a heavy rotation of TV spots and ads printed on the backs of comic books has both baffled and enraged the fanbase.

DC Universe has been slowly building its brand in the niche streaming market since it launched last fall. Though it has struggled to make industry waves, it has delivered some well-received superhero programming, like the critically acclaimed Doom Patrol and fan favorite Titans.
Its newest offering, Swamp Thing, hopes to change that with big names like James Wan (Aquaman, The Conjuring), Len Wiseman (Underworld), Gary Dauberman (It, Annabelle Comes Home) and Mark Verheiden (Smallville, Daredevil) on board the supernatural thriller that made headlines when the series' 13-episode order was cut down to 10 in the middle of production.

Young streaming service DC Universe has a good thing going in its first couple of years. First, DC’s streaming arm somehow pulled off a gritty live-action Teen Titans reboot called Titans without anyone laughing them off WarnerMedia’s servers. In fact people kind of liked it!
Then they improbably brought Earth’s Strangest Heroes, Doom Patrol, to life in a convincingly weird 15-episode series of the same name. Now, DC Universe has reached into the drawer to pull another beloved character in the DC library: Swamp Thing.
Swamp Thing was created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson for DC Comcis in 1971. In the ‘80s, Alan Moore’s hallowed run on Swamp Thing became a classic that brought many wayward fans back to comics. In fact,...

Swamp Thing is a big swing for DC Universe, the relatively new streaming service which is already home to live-action hits such as Titans and Doom Patrol.
The latest series has been a highly-anticipated horror drama from the streamer, but when reports emerged that production was getting halted after production on 10 of the 13 episodes, concerns about the finished product started to emerge.
Those concerns are swiftly put to rest after screening the first two episodes on which the characters are put through the wringer.
There's a lot to love about a series that delivers genuinely shocking twists with a solid script, first-rate acting, and an atmospheric look that would leave many summer blockbusters looking terrible in comparison.

The cinematic look definitely elevates Swamp Thing above most other TV shows releasing this summer.
