"He's a perfect dog for the wilderness... I believe in him." Lionsgate has unveiled an official trailer for a film titled Hero Dog: The Journey Home, yet another Homeward Bound riff about a dog that helps save a human. It's not an exact copy, but close enough, and considering this is a direct-to-dvd title don't expect much originality. Crossing a lake by boat to return to his family, Royce, who is blind, is stranded when the boat's captain suddenly falls ill. To find help, Royce enlists Chinook, a brave malamute doggo, to serve as his seeing-eye dog as they navigate the wilderness. Chinook must protect Royce from treacherous rapids, jagged rocks, and savage mountain lions on their long, heroic journey of survival. Starring Natasha Henstridge and Steve Byers, with John Tench and Zackary Arthur. It does look like an inspiring and lovely story of a dog being the best boi,...

Carter (Jane), a troubled veteran who gets a chance at redemption by protecting a 12 year-old girl from an assassin after she witnesses a murder. Holding a shotgun with a single shell, he engages in physical and psychological warfare in a desperate fight for the girl’s life.
Unsurprisingly, the main premise for the film Standoff is that the film involves a stand-off between the two main characters as they both try to get the upper hand. If done incorrectly, this film has the ability to be incredibly boring. Let’s be honest, with neither party having the upper hand, it doesn’t leave much wiggle room for exciting things to happen. Thankfully, I was in luck and it turned out to be very entertaining. This was...

*there are mild spoilers here. Director: Jeff Renfroe. Writers: Jeff Renfroe, Svet Rouskov, Patrick Tarr, and Pascal Trottier. Cast: Laurence Fishburne, Kevin Zegers, Bill Paxton, Charlotte Sullivan and John Tench. The post-apocalyptic film The Colony had its World Premiere in Toronto April 3rd, 2013. This indie title was then released in theatres across Canada in mid-April. Now, this critic has finally seen the film and the wait was mostly worth it. The Colony brings a slightly unique landscape to the post-apocalyptic genre, a frozen wasteland. Instead of nuclear waste or arid deserts, several characters must survive lack of food, illness and the occasional band of roaming cannibals. The plot holes in The Colony are frequent, but the film still manages to be enjoyable. The film's story involves about 40 people living in an underground lair. Above, the world is a frozen landscape, which few can survive. The survivors of a new ice...

I’ve been following Jeff Renfroe’s post-apocalyptic monster movie “The Colony” for a while now, and it looks like all that waiting has paid off. Check out the first trailer for the sci-fi/horror film, which stars Laurence Fishburne and Bill Paxton as a pair of bickering old guys that must lead a bunch of young whippersnappers against some cannibal types with humanity at stake. You know, that old thing. The trailer is very revealing, and I’m pretty sure it gives away the movie’s entire three acts, but that seems inevitable these days, right? Fans of post-apocalyptic cannibal movies should be intrigued. Me, I’m just wondering if Bill Paxton will somehow fit in his famous line from “Aliens”. His character certainly looks like he’s prone to freaking out… Forced underground by the next ice age, a struggling outpost of survivors must fight to preserve humanity...

Comforting Skin Trailer. Derek Franson‘s Comforting Skin (2011) movie trailer stars Victoria Bidewell, Tygh Runyan, Jane Sowerby, Phil Granger, and Ava Hughes. Comforting Skin‘s plot synopsis: “a supernatural thriller that follows Koffie, a lonely young woman who’s desperate need for emotional and sexual companionship draws her into a surreal and ultimately destructive relationship with a shifting and whispering tattoo she has willed to life on her skin.”
Damn does this horror movie look good and somehow it “was shot last spring on a budget of roughly $250,000.” I’m impressed.
On the tattoo special effects in Comforting Skin:
That was done through the use of digital animation and compositing techniques, requiring custom code developed by VFX Supervisor Ollie Rankin.
Comforting Skin also stars Eugene Lipinski, Jenn Griffin, Paul Jarrett, Laura Soltis, John Tench, Stephen Lofstrom, Jesai Jayhmes, Nicola Rollet, and Jared Cote.

Repeaters Poster ArtWhat would you do if you woke up on the same day everyday? What would you do if everyday repeated? These are the types of questions asked of characters Kyle (Dustin Milligan, Sonia (Amanda Crew) and Weeks (Richard de Klerk) in the film Repeaters. These three are recovering drug addicts and they must make amends with family members who they have hurt through their drug use. This film is similar to Harold Ramis' Groundhog Day where life repeats until characters learn a lesson and readers can see Repeaters at the Toronto International Film Festival beginning September 13th. Have a read of the interesting premise below and take a peek at the film's trailer.
The synopsis for Repeaters here:

Yes, I am stealing the pull-quote from Andrew McQuade over at GoreZone, because that seems to be the vibe in this trailer, despite the very blunt grind-house-ish title.
