Netflix has unveiled the first look at Zack Snyder’s director’s cuts, ‘Rebel Moon — Chapter One: Chalice of Blood’ and ‘Rebel Moon – Chapter Two: Curse of Forgiveness.’
In Snyder’s director’s cut, a peaceful settlement on a moon in the furthest reaches of the universe finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, and Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, becomes their best hope for survival. Tasked with finding trained fighters who will unite with her in making an impossible stand against the Motherworld, Kora assembles a small band of warriors — outsiders, insurgents, peasants, and orphans of war who share a common need for redemption and revenge. As the shadow of an entire Realm bears down on the unlikeliest of moons, a new army of heroes is formed.

Starfield players are getting even more creative with the Creations Kit and made impressive mods inspired by other franchises like DC. Batman is one of the more notable heroes of the franchise and added him into the game in all his glory better than the live-action films’ depictions.
Players took the likenesses and character designs from the films and faithfully recreated them into the game. Modders have done some impressive work with the Creations Kit but this is one of the more popular characters to be added to the game and could be just the start.

In 2022, rising out against the pandemic and towards a box office resurrection, The Batman from Matt Reeves starring Robert Pattinson also went down as one of the most fan-favorite outings of the character. Featuring a young version of the Caped Crusader, who had just begun his work in ridding the streets of Gotham, crime-free, the movie amassed acclaim for a number of creative decisions that had never made their way to the big screens before, making fans clamor and demand for more.

Since 2019, 98 animated titles have benefited from France’s tax-rebate on international productions (Trip) scheme, representing 27% of all projects and reflecting a wider industry desire to make the country a global toon boom hub.
This year’s Annecy Animation Festival will share the fruits of that program – which offers an across-the-board 30% tax rebate for international productions, with an additional 10% bonus to projects that partner with local VFX houses — showcasing internationally funded, made-in-France projects like Illumination’s “Despicable Me 4” and Studio Ponoc’s anime fantasy “The Imaginary.” Meanwhile local artists are currently hard at work bringing Illumination’s “The Super Mario Bros. 2” to life at Illumination’s Paris facility.
Recent big-screen blockbusters that benefited from that program include “Minions: The Rise of Gru” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,” while Netflix’s small-screen sensation “Blue Eyed Samurai” and upcoming titles “The Doomies” from Disney+, “Creature Commandos” from James Gunn and Max/Warner,...

Henry Cavill’s passion for gaming is well-documented, and his favorite Blizzard game, World of Warcraft, almost cost him the Superman role. Cavill famously recounted how he missed Zack Snyder’s call offering him the part because he was engrossed in a WoW dungeon.
This makes him an ideal candidate for any future WoW adaptations, especially considering Blizzard’s openness to exploring new media formats if the right people are involved.

Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon franchise is reportedly fading into the background as its director may have found a much more inspiring project to put his focus on at the moment.
Snyder’s recent revelations were pretty clear about his determined intention to expand his epic space opera franchise’s universe by yet another bunch of sequels, though now the director’s other flick is getting more attention and thus has more chances to receive updates than the failed film series.
According to Variety reports, Snyder’s 2006 epic historical action movie 300 is about to get a prequel series, and Snyder is in talks regarding his return to the story as director and executive producer.
No plot details of the future show have been revealed so far, yet it’s pretty clear that the upcoming installment will take viewers back to earlier times before Gerard Butler’s Leonidas and his...

When Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon hit theaters on December 15th 2023 for a limited screening, it did not receive a lot of positive responses from critics and audiences. Subsequently, its premier on Netflix changed its fortunes tremendously, with fans lapping it up and praising Snyder’s unique directorial touches. Now, the Man Of Steel filmmaker is set to release an extended cut of the movie on Netflix in August.

Zack Snyder unveiled today with Netflix that his Rebel Moon movies are getting directors cuts –and new titles– Rebel Moon – Chapter One: Chalice of Blood and Rebel Moon – Chapter Two: Curse of Forgiveness. Both are happening on Netflix on Aug. 2.
The original movies were titled Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire (debuted on Dec. 15) and the second was entitled Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver (which dropped on April 19). Between the two they brought in over 95M global viewers per the Netflix published top 10 charts, although Snyder himself in an interview with Joe Rogan believes Part One was watched by at least 160M people.
“So you think if that movie was in the theater as a distribution model, that’s like 160 million people supposedly watching based on that math,” Snyder told Rogan back in March. “160 million people at $10 a ticket would be…what is that math?...

Everywhere I look these days, I see the masses consumed by "Rebel Moon" fever. People just can't get enough of Sofia Boutella's eponymous "Scargiver" and her epic crusade against the mighty Imperium. The streets are filled with cosplayers paying homage to fan-favorite hero Jimmy, the greatest robot character ever voiced by Sir Anthony Hopkins. After the release of "A Child of Fire" and "The Scargiver" over the last year and change, the promise of even more footage in the form of two director's cuts overseen by filmmaker Zack Snyder has constantly kept this new franchise at the forefront of every pop-culture conversation.
As you might have figured out by now, none of this really ever happened in the real world. Although the eye-popping visuals and expansive world-building would've been a feast for the eyes on the big screen, the fact that only Netflix stepped up to provide funding for...

Before either of his Rebel Moon films had been released, Zack Snyder was up-front about his plans to release entirely different cuts of his sci-fi saga. The two-part galactic epic – largely inspired by Seven Samurai – was released on Netflix first with Part One: A Child Of Fire in December, and then with Part Two: The Scargiver in April. But those were the 12A-rated family-friendly cuts, telling Snyder’s story in a way that was suitable for a wider age range. From the offset, though, the filmmaker was clear about his intentions: a Director’s Cut of the entire experience would be coming too, with significantly longer runtimes, and much more hard-edged material in the mix. Now, we have more information about what that involves.
As confirmed by Snyder himself, the Rebel Moon Director’s Cut will be streaming from 2 August, both parts of which are set to release on the same day.

You have to imagine Netflix is a bit let down by the release of the two “Rebel Moon” films earlier this year. While they definitely had decent viewership, the reviews for the films are terrible. These were supposed to kickstart a franchise, and if critical reception has anything to do with it, then both films were dead in the water. But that’s not stopping Netflix from fulfilling its promise to Zack Snyder and allowing him to release Director’s Cuts of both films.

In 2016, Zack Snyder launched Ben Affleck as the Dark Knight in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The outing marked DC Studios’ next big take on the character following the immense acclaim received just years earlier with the Christian Bale version helmed by Christopher Nolan. However, unlike its predecessor, the ambitious, dark, gritty, and unhinged Dceu version failed to strike a chord at the box office, with a canonical wipeout coming in with 2023’s The Flash.

There’s no mystery why Zack Snyder is considered one of the most polarizing directors in Hollywood. His movies often are the subjects of online debates because of his interpretation of characters and execution of scenes. Indeed, he’s quite a divisive filmmaker.

One of his most popular works, 300, is reportedly getting a small-screen treatment, and this could be an alarming news unbeknownst to him. Snyder is in talks to helm a prequel series to his 2006 historical epic which doesn’t already look good given the streak of flopped projects he’s been involved with.

Hollywood is a constant churning mill of content with competitiveness rooted at its core. A striking example of this is the current summer box office that has witnessed a tide of resurgence following the release of the Will Smith and Martin Lawrence starrer Bad Boys: Ride or Die. Zack Snyder’s 300 told a fictionalized version of the Battle of Thermopylae and saw Gerard Butler’s King Leonidas leading 300 Spartans into battle against an army of about 300,000 soldiers. The film is based on the namesake limited comic book series created by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley. 300 had its own ups and downs while it received mixed reviews from critics and a few awards, it also was also criticized for its historical inaccuracies.

Gerard Butler’s Leonidas led an army of 300 soldiers to face off against the 300,000 soldiers of the Persian God-King Xerxes in Zack Snyder’s 300. The David and Goliath story required actors to get ripped and look perfect in their half-naked attires. However, Warner Bros. exec Alan Horn wasn’t exactly convinced with Butler for the role after working with him on The Phantom of the Opera.

However, when Butler came to convince him, Horn decided to give him the role as per Snyder’s wish upon one condition. He knew from their earlier collaboration that Butler was a heavy smoker and he wanted the actor to quit smoking to land the part.

At a time when the Marvel Cinematic Universe had just aired The Avengers on the big screen and laid claim as the best interconnected comic universe to date, DC Studios came up with its own iteration just a year later. In 2013, Zack Snyder kick-started the DC Extended Universe with his Man of Steel starring Henry Cavill as the titular lead. However, instead of competing head-to-head with the Iron Man producing studio, it went down with sweeping division.

Zack Snyder's 2006 film "300," based on the comic book by Frank Miller, tells a hyper-stylized and not-the-least-bit-historically-accurate version of the Battle of Thermopylae (480 BC) wherein 300 Spartan soldiers managed to fend off anywhere from 120,000 to 300,000 soldiers of the Persian Empire for three full days. Both Miller's book and Snyder's film present the Spartans as teeth-gashing, testosterone-spitting, Spam-scented beefcake slabs comprised of nothing but pectoral muscles, testicles, and homophobia. They speak in "Join the Marines" recruiting slogans and disparage anything that's not at least 4000% more masculine than a two-ton bag of Tom Jones' chest hair.
Speaking of chest hair, none of the Spartans have any, happy to parade around their cartoonishly cut physiques as if they all possess a severe shirt allergy. Leading the charge is King Leonidas (Gerard Butler), a man who cannot help but add multiple exclamation marks after every sentence he speaks.

According to industry insider reports, Warner Bros. is purposefully dumping its highly anticipated Bong Joon-ho project, Mickey 17. Earlier this year, reports emerged that the film was delayed to January 2025 in favor of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. However, the new reports tell a different story; that of a creative difference between Bong and the studio.

It’s always fun to hear your favorite filmmakers talk about the nitty-gritty details of your favorite film. The history of film is teeming with alternate endings that never saw the light of day, whether it's because of production troubles, executive meddling, or writers and directors simply changing their minds. In franchise-oriented blockbuster cinema, the practice of studying, testing, and even shooting different endings is especially prevalent, as those movies have to weather a host of artistic and commercial ambitions that the ending must facilitate simultaneously.
Superhero movies, with their precise storytelling geometry and enormous cultural presence, are particularly susceptible to having their endings reconsidered or reshot. There is an enormous pressure for superhero movie endings to work, to resolve the plot efficiently, to send viewers home buzzing for the right reasons. While that sometimes leads to great, refreshingly thoughtful storytelling decisions, it can also lead to conformity, blandness, and incongruence just as often -- especially when the ending has been changed out of sheer executive pressure.

Few feats in filmmaking are rarer that churning out a string of classics within the span of a few years. It's the cineaste equivalent of, I dunno, whatever sports metaphor you deem fit to slot in here. John McTiernan did it by delivering "Predator," "Die Hard," and "The Hunt for Red October" back-to-back-to-back, while Francis Ford Coppola did him one better by helming "The Godfather," "The Conversation," and "The Godfather Part II" within the span of two years before returning five years later with "Apocalypse Now." But for my money, fews runs can match that of Akira Kurosawa in the '50s, a time in which the Japanese legend gifted us with "Rashōmon," "Ikiru," "Seven Samurai," "Throne of Blood," and "The Hidden Fortress," all before the decade was over.

Movie lovers will know that Zack Snyder is a very divisive personality in the world of cinema, as you either love his movies or you hate them. With Snyder, there is no in-between; his vision is so specific that you will either like it completely and enjoy his movies or think it completely ridiculous and consider his movies a failure. His most recent outing, the Rebel Moon series, has been panned by critics as Snyder’s worst work, but the filmmaker’s collaboration with Netflix is still strong, as we know that his animated streaming series titled Twilight of the Gods will be released on Netflix in Fall 2024, although a precise release date has not yet been given.
But we know that the series is going to have its premiere at the 2024 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, and ahead of this first screening, Netflix has released the first images from the series,...

Netflix unveiled first looks at a whole host of its upcoming animated shows and features during an event on Thursday, and Rebel Moon director Zack Snyder was on hand to introduce the first footage from his Norse Mythology series, Twilight of the Gods.
“I love mythology,” said the filmmaker. "On a scale like this, I feel like animation was the greatest way to tell the story.”
First announced way back in 2019, it's taken quite a while to find its way to our screens, but we recently learned that the show will finally premiere on Netflix this Fall.
The project has been described as "Anime-influenced," but judging by these clips, we'd say the animation style has more in common with the Academy Award-nominated Cartoon Saloon studio.
“When most people think about animation, they think about Saturday morning cartoons, or G-rated movies,” said the presentation’s host, Christopher Sean. “But animation is...

Akira Kurosawa’s classic epic “Seven Samurai” is celebrating its 70th anniversary with a 4K restoration and theatrical re-release.
“Seven Samurai” centers on 16th-century Japanese warriors who protect their village from invaders. Toshiro Mifune and Takashi Shimura lead the three-hour feature hailing from legendary auteur Kurosawa. “Seven Samurai” was his third film following “Rashomon” and “Ikiru.” “Seven Samurai” famously debuted at the 1954 Venice Film Festival, where Kurosawa won the Silver Lion for Best Director.
The 70th anniversary 4K restoration was made possible by Toho Co. Ltd, which released the original film. The restored film debuted at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival; the festival further honored Kurosawa’s contributions to cinema by incorporating a still of “Rhapsody in August” in the official Cannes poster.

Netflix Animation held its first slate preview event June 6 at the Tudum in L.A., as a lead-up to the Annecy Animation Festival (June 9-15), where it will premiere Shannon Tindle’s “Ultraman: Rising” (streaming June 14) and tout some of its upcoming works in 2024 and 2025.
Hosted by Christopher Sean (the voice star of “Ultraman: Rising”), attendees were treated to exclusive presentations, previews, and special announcements. The biggest announcement was the full title of Aardman’s next stop-motion feature, “Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl,” which will have an Oscar-qualifying run this winter before streaming in 2025.
Directed by franchise creator Nick Park and creative director Merlin Crossingham, who offered a pre-recorded introduction, “Vengeance Most Fowl” marks the return of the villainous penguin, Feathers McGraw, from the Oscar-winning short “The Wrong Trousers.” The film is a cautionary tale of high-tech gone wrong involving an out-of-control “smart gnome” with a mind of its own.

We're just a few days away from the premiere of "Ultraman: Rising" on Netflix, the latest addition to the ever-growing animation library of the streamer. Animation has been on shaky ground for the last few years, with the animation guild growing stronger to fight for fair contractions as creatives continue to battle against the dystopian threat of artificial intelligence. Fortunately, animation is still as popular and well-loved as ever, and Netflix has been absolutely crushing it as of late. Not only did the streamer pull in an Academy Award for Guillermo del Toro's "Pinocchio" in 2022, but shows like "Blue Eye Samurai," "Arcane," "Love, Death, & Robots," and movies like "Wendell & Wild," "The Sea Beast," and "The Mitchells vs. the Machines" are some of the best releases of original animation, period.

Four years ago, Rebel Moon filmmaker Zack Snyder and producing partner and wife Deborah Snyder met with Netflix executives to discuss possibilities in animation.
The medium was growing fast inside the company, as fast as its subscriber base. One exec threw out the idea of doing something with Norse mythology. Zack Snyder, who had spent much of his career making movies with grand mythological overtones, took to it. Partnering with storyboard artist and animation director Jay Oliva, the Snyders eventually came up with a love and revenge story titled Twilight of the Gods.
“We pitched them an outline; they had a few notes but they let us have free reign,” Deborah Snyder told The Hollywood Reporter at a Netflix animation event Thursday. “They had no guardrails, no limitations.”
That lack of guardrails or limitations may be the best way to describe the free-wheeling, anything and everything goes ethos that has overtaken Netflix’s animation arm.

We mere mortals will be graced with a gift forged in the heavens this fall: mythology, animation, and creator and executive producer Zack Snyder (Rebel Moon). Twilight of the Gods, coming from The Stone Quarry and Xilam animation studios, brings Snyder’s daring and spectacular vision of ancient Norse mythology to life.
In a mythical world of great battles, great deeds, and great despair, Leif (Stuart Martin), a mortal king, is saved on the battlefield by Sigrid (Sylvia Hoeks), an iron-willed warrior with whom he falls in love. Nobody really saw it coming, but Zack Snyder’s film is once again holding a place in Netflix’s US top, and it’s neither of his Rebel Moon flops.
Snyder’s 300: Rise of an Empire is suddenly one of the most-watched movies on the platform this week and, according to data provided by FlixPatrol, the flick has climbed to the number two position surpassed only by Netflix’s new surprising arrival Godzilla Minus One.
Released in 2014 as a sequel of sorts to 300, Snyder’s 2006 historical movie, 300: Rise of an Empire follows Greek general Themistocles of Athens, portrayed by Sullivan Stapleton, who, alongside his army, is set to strike back against the invasion of Persian forces.
The already ruthless approaching battle gets even more complicated when the Persian army finds support from the God-King Xerxes of Persia and the leader of the Persian navy Artemisia.
Apart from Stapleton,...

Disaster films have experienced a resurgence over the past few years, and this Steven Spielberg-produced movie with Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Anthony Ramos in the lead may end up becoming the biggest summer hit. Twisters is an upcoming movie from director Lee Isaac Chung that serves as the standalone sequel to the 1996 film Twister.
Daisy Edgar-Jones, Anthony Ramos, and Glen Powell in Twisters / Universal Pictures
One of the things that make this production unique is that they used real tornados in the scene rather than visual effects. Of course, the aid of technology will always be there, but to see a tornado up close on the big screen is something fans would never expect.

There have effectively been innumerable versions of Batman, both in the comics and in live-action and TV series depictions. While the character in itself has been utterly dark in quite a few of them, arguably none came closer to Ben Affleck and Zack Snyder’s version of the caped crusader, seen in the likes of Batman vs Superman, Justice League, and 2017’s Suicide Squad.
Ben Affleck’s Batman in Justice League (2017) | DC Studios
Of course, while Affleck’s violent and murder-loving iteration of Batman falls in line with the comics, it is also comprehensively different from the kind of Batman depictions that live-actions have traditionally seen. That appears to be down to Zack Snyder’s vision, as he explained in an interview how he sees the character of Bruce Wayne, and how his childhood trauma affects him as an adult.
Zack Snyder believes Bruce Wayne/Batman f**ks to forget!
