Becky G took the Oscars stage to perform “The Fire Inside” from the Eva Longoria-directed film Flamin’ Hot.
Diane Warren wrote the song for the film about Richard Montañez, the Frito-Lay janitor who became an executive after inventing Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.
Ahead of the ceremony at the Dolby Theater, Longoria talked about the excitement her directorial debut getting some recognition at the Academy Awards.
“I have goosebumps. I can’t believe it. I can because Diane Warren wrote the song, so she’s a genius and Becky G is a genius,” Longoria told Laverne Cox on Live from E! red carpet coverage. “Their performance tonight… You will never be more proud to be a Latino and a Chicano, but Becky’s thought and love that she put into this performance tonight is going to blow everybody away. Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series spotlighting the year’s most talked-about scripts continues with Flamin’ Hot, the script from Lewis Colick and Gentefied creator Linda Yvette Chávez that became Eva Longoria’s feature directorial debut.
The rags-to-riches story of Richard Montañez, the Frito-Lay janitor (played by Jesse Garcia) who becomes the marketing godfather of the spicy-chip revolution, hit the spot right away with audiences. The pic from Searchlight Pictures won the Headliners section’s audience award after its world premiere at SXSW, after which it became the first film to debut simultaneously on Hulu and Disney+ when it premiered in June.
Longoria told Deadline earlier this year that after sparking to the original script by Colick (October Sky and Charlie St. Cloud) and coming aboard, her first suggestion was that the story’s point of view needed to be Montañez’s.
“This is his version of what happened,” she said.

For Eva Longoria to have the chance to direct “Flamin’ Hot,” she says she had to “overcome the stigma of being a dumb actor.”
“I’m more than the actor you know from TV,” she tells Variety‘s Awards Circuit Podcast. “I’ve been directing for 12 years. I started with short films. I directed episodic TV, half-hours, one-hours, dramas, comedies, baby pilots, and big pilots. I’ve touched every rung of the ladder.”
On this Variety Awards Circuit Podcast episode, we sit with Longoria to discuss the chance to helm the inspirational true story of a Latino who achieved the American dream. In addition, the Awards Circuit Roundtable discusses the continuation of the SAG-AFTRA strikes and how that will affect the awards season, with actors unable to campaign.

On tonight’s episode of Mayans M.C. titled “Slow to Bleed Fair Son,” the biker gang whose origins date back to Kurt Sutter’s Sons of Anarchy and later expanded into its own spinoff series takes its last ride—and it’s messy as hell.
Without El Padrino Marcus Alvarez (Emilio Rivera) at the helm of the club, it was only a matter of time before the whole thing exploded into chaos. After being ousted by former prospect turned president Ez Reyes (Jd Pardo) in Season 4, it took some time for Alvarez to figure out what his life would look like in a post-Mayans world. Still haven’t recovered from FX’s Mayans M.C. season five episode seven? Neither have I. But buckle up because episode eight – “Her Blacks Crackle and Drag” – doesn’t let up. The episode finds the Mayans saying goodbye to Creeper, Angel lost without Adelita, and Hope taking drastic measures to ensure Isaac can never hurt her or Letty again.
But, most importantly, the episode’s explosive ending might spell the end of Ez’s short reign over the prisons.
Episode eight opens with Downer (Angel Oquendo) and Guero (Andrew Jacobs) transporting the dead bodies of Diaz and Jinx. Guero’s justifiably worried after killing Oakland’s president in cold blood, which forced Bishop to take out the VP. But Downer assures him the club knows why he did it. It wasn’t a smart move,...

Update: President Joe Biden said that Flamin’ Hot was “the first-ever public screening of a film focused on the Hispanic community at the White House,” just before the Disney+/Hulu project was shown before a crowd of several hundred on the South Lawn.
Biden, First Lady Jill Biden and director Eva Longoria walked out together to make brief remarks to the crowd, who were spread out on blankets and munching on chips and, of course, Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. The movie is the story of Frito Lay janitor Richard Montañez, who claimed to have invented the snack, although the origin story is in dispute. Montañez rose in the ranks at Frito Lay to become a marketing executive and “played a key role in accelerating the growth of our Flamin’ Hot Brand and other brands particularly through his Hispanic marketing efforts,” according to the company.

Hollywood’s hunger for name brands has officially reached the point where just about any proper noun can become a feature film. And while its breezy pacing and charismatic lead keep it from becoming a slog, there’s no escaping the fact that Eva Longoria’s Flamin’ Hot, which tells the story of how Richard Montañez (Jesse Garcia) went from working as a janitor in a Frito-Lay factory to a director’s position thanks to his invention of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, is simply a 99-minute commercial for the Frito-Lay corporation.
Early on, Lewis Colick and Linda Yvette Chávez’s screenplay emphasizes the hardships that Richard faced along the way. He grows up on a migrant labor camp in Ontario under the watchful eye of his abusive father, Vacho (Emilio Rivera). His school years are beset with racist bullying and his young adulthood quickly leads him into a life of crime.

2023 has given us commercial origin stories for Air Jordans, the BlackBerry, Tetris and…Flamin’ Hot Cheetos? As the poster for Eva Longoria’s directorial debut promises, it’s the flavor you know and the story you don’t.
“Flamin’ Hot” adapts former Frito-Lay janitor Richard Montañez’s (Jesse Garcia) disputed account of the spicy corn puff’s invention. With his wife (Annie Gonzalez) and community’s support, Richard pitches the Mexican-street-corn-inspired idea to Pepsi’s CEO Roger Enrico (Tony Shalhoub) and corporate brass. Dennis Haysbert (“24”), Matt Walsh (“Veep”) and Emilio Rivera (“Mayans M.C.”) co-star. The veracity of Montañez’s claims aside, the film, based on “A Boy, a Burrito and a Cookie: From Janitor to Executive,” has been called a resounding rags-to-riches redemption story with energy and style to spare. Watch the just-released trailer below to ready your palate.

Hulu has released the trailer for Searchlight Pictures’ “Flamin’ Hot,” the feature directorial debut of Eva Longoria which tells the supposed origin story of the most famous flavor of Cheetos ever made.
“Flamin’ Hot” stars Jesse Garcia as Richard Montañez, the son of migrant workers who rose from being a janitor at Frito-Lay’s factory in Rancho Cucamonga to becoming one of the snack company’s marketing executives who helped rapidly grow sales of its products among Latinos.

Searchlight’s Flamin’ Hot trailer delves into the true story behind the popular (but messy) Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. Jesse Garcia (Quinceañera) stars as Richard Montañez, the janitor at a Frito-Lay factory who helped turn the industry around by cooking up a spicy version of the cheesy snack food.
“My journey is the journey of billions of people,” said the real Richard Montañez. “Being Mexican, being born in a labor camp, I’ve been fighting my whole life. I don’t know what it’s like not to fight.”
Director Eva Longoria calls Montañez the godfather of Hispanic marketing.
“That was his gift: seeing that nobody was paying attention to the Hispanic consumer. His gift wasn’t making a recipe in a chemical lab. Former Frito-Lay janitor Richard Montañez has long claimed he invented Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. His account of the wildly popular flavor’s origins is the subject of the Eva Longoria-directed biopic Flamin’ Hot, which has been previewed in a new trailer. Watch it below.
Premiering June 9th on Hulu and Disney+, Flamin’ Hot stars Jesse Garcia as Montañez and also features Annie Gonzales, Dennis Haysbert, Tony Shalhoub, Matt Walsh, and Emilio Rivera.
According to Montañez, he was inspired to spice up Cheetos by Mexican-American food like street corn while working as a janitor at Frito-Lay’s Rancho Cucamonga plant. He pitched the idea over the phone to then-ceo Roger Enrico and was invited to present it in person. This eventually led to his rise as a marketing executive at the company.

The first trailer for Eva Longoria’s directorial debut, Flamin’ Hot, has dropped and reveals Jesse Garcia playing Richard Montañez, a go-getting Mexican American who in real life claims he went from working as a janitor at Frito-Lay to inventing the successful Flamin’ Hot Cheetos snack product.
“Spicy? See, that’s how I got here,” Montañez says at one point as the Searchlight Pictures teaser recalls his youthful past in gangs and committing petty crimes, before Longoria’s rags-to-riches story has him inventing the salty Cheetos snack for Frito-Lay.
The trailer, which Garcia narrates, shows the breakthrough moment when he discovers that adding chili seasoning to Cheetos will bring a delicious heat to the snack product and potentially woo a far wider U.S. market. “I got an idea. It’s a spicy chip. It’s gonna change everything,” Montañez tells his skeptical floor manager, played by Matt Walsh.

Two's a coincidence, but three films about the origins of real-life brands releasing in the span of a few months? That's a trend.
On the heels of "Tetris" and "Air" comes "Flamin' Hot," the latest entry in the growing sub-genre that /Film's Rafael Motamayor has referred to as "the brand movie or product biopic (the prodpic?)." This time, the focus is on Richard Montañez, who rose from being a humble janitor at a Frito-Lay factory to a successful businessman and the self-proclaimed creator of Flamin' Hot Cheetos. The film is based on Montañez's memoir, "A Boy, a Burrito and a Cookie: From Janitor to Executive," and was directed by former "Desperate Housewives" star Eva Longoria, drawing from Lewis Colick and Linda Yvette's script.
Similar to "Tetris," Longoria's brand movie will be skipping theaters to release directly to streaming on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally -- although,...

Hulu dropped its first trailer for “Flamin’ Hot,” an Eva Longoria-directed film about Mexican immigrant and former Frito-Lay janitor Richard Montañez, who claims he invented Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.
The film, streaming June 9, stars Jesse Garcia as Montañez, as well as Annie Gonzales, Dennis Haysbert, Tony Shalhoub, Matt Walsh and Emilio Rivera.
Montañez’s story is that while he was working as a custodian at the Rancho Cucamonga Frito-Lay plant, he thought of spicing up Cheetos with chile powder. He contacted executives to pitch the snack and subsequently outsmarted corporate saboteurs, leading him to become a successful author and businessman.
The accuracy of Montañez’s story is disputed by Frito-Lay itself, which, in a Los Angeles Times article from May 2021, said employees located in the Upper Midwest actually created Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.

It all comes down to this, Mayans M.C. fanatics.
FX on Wednesday unveiled the trailer for Mayans M.C. Season 5, which promises our deadliest season to date.
At the end of Mayans M.C. Season 4, Ez was president of the Santo Padre charter, a move that elicited a lot of blowbacks.
If you watch Mayans M.C. online, you know the development put him on the outs with his brother, Angel.
In the freshly released footage, Angel and his dad are forced to ponder whether Ez is too far gone.
If the trailer proves anything, Ez is making moves, but they may not be the right ones to secure his safety.
Angel is particularly concerned because the simmering tension between the Mayans and the Sons of Anarchy leads to several threats to the lives of his loved ones.
It's a lot to process, and we're barely scratching the surface of the trailer here.

Fans of Mayans Mc should brace themselves for an explosive season 5, as the show ramps up towards its climactic finale. Last season was marked by significant chaos and upheaval, and things between Ez Reyes (Jd Pardo) and his brother, Angel Reyes (Clayton Cardenas), are about to get even more riveting.
With Ez now sitting at the head of the table after taking the reins from Marcus Alvarez (Emilio Rivera), Mayans Mc star Sarah Bolger believes a scene from season 4 marked a “palpable change in the tone of show” as we head into season 5.

HBO has released the official trailer for its five-episode limited series “White House Plumbers,” set to debut on May 1. The series will take viewers on a “behind-the-scenes” look of the Watergate scandal, starring Nixon’s political saboteurs, E. Howard Hunt (Woody Harrelson) and G. Gordon Liddy (Justin Theroux). Set in 1971, both Hunt and Liddy have just been hired by the White House to investigate the Pentagon Papers leak when they end up landing on the committee to re-elect the president. “White House Plumbers” aims to pull back the curtain to the events that led up to one of America’s most infamous political crimes.
