Exclusive: It came down to the wire but the last outstanding scripted series on the Big 4 broadcast networks has learned its fate. Fox has handed a Season 4 renewal to The Cleaning Lady, starring Élodie Yung. According to sources, the order is for 12 episodes.
While expected, the renewal was not straight-forward and comes with a showrunner change, Deadline has learned. The crime drama, a co-production between Warner Bros. Television and Fox Entertainment, had to pivot and adjust its storyline on the fly this season as it dealt with the tragic loss of its male lead, Adan Canto, who died of cancer.
Linear ratings for The Cleaning Lady — as well as Fox’s other drama series that aired new episodes this season, Alert: Missing Persons Unit — have been down double digits, with a lift of +131% from Live + Same Day to 3.6 million multi-platform viewers helping The Cleaning Lady to close the gap. The Cleaning Lady has brought intrigue, action, and romance since it debuted on Fox in 2022.
The addicting crime drama was developed by Miranda Kwok and followed Thony De La Rhosa’s struggles in Las Vegas. Her young son had a rare blood disorder, and she couldn’t afford treatment unless she worked for the mob and they helped her.
During The Cleaning Lady Season 2, Thony grew even deeper into the crime world to save Luca, but that had severe consequences. While it was sometimes frustrating to see her make those mistakes and see others pay for them, we’re eager to see what’s next for everyone.
Luckily, Fox renewed The Cleaning Lady for a third season in February 2023.
“After two heart-pounding seasons, we’re thrilled with how audiences have latched on to this incredible story,” said Michael Thorn. Fox Entertainment President.

Fox has renewed "The Cleaning Lady" for a third season (via The Hollywood Reporter), just seven weeks after the show premiered its second. Behind the scenes, it will mark a new chapter for the series as Jeanine Renshaw will join creator Miranda Kwok as co-showrunner, helming the crime drama series alongside her. Renshaw is replacing Melissa Carter, who is exiting the show's creative team to work on her overall deal, in development at Warner Bros.
"The Cleaning Lady" is based on "La Chica Que Limpia," an Argentine series about a woman named Rosa whose life is changed following a murder at the boxing gym she works as a cleaning lady. The American adaptation, described by the network as "a story of empowerment, resilience and the human spirit that asks us all if the ends justify the means," is led by French-Camobdian actress Élodie Yung ("Daredevil") and follows her character Thony De La Rosa.

The Brady organization against gun violence is calling on Hollywood writers, directors and producers to examine onscreen gun violence and depictions of gun safety, asking the creative community to sign a pledge that’s already garnered more than 200 signatures of such names as Judd Apatow, Shonda Rhimes, Damon Lindelof and Jimmy Kimmel and the writers of Jimmy Kimmel Live!
The pledge, while noting that the “responsibility lies with lax gun laws supported by those politicians more afraid of losing power than saving lives,” acknowledges that “America’s storytellers” have the power to “effect change.”
“Cultural attitudes toward smoking, drunk driving, seatbelts and marriage equality have all evolved due in large part to movies’ and TV’s influence. It’s time to take on gun safety,” the Brady pledge states, and goes on to ask writers, directors and producers to, whenever possible, to:

Grey's Anatomy stunned fans when it killed off Patrick Dempsey's Derek Shepherd during its 11th season.
There have been reports of bad blood between Dempsey and creator Shonda Rhimes for years, and thanks to Lynette Rice's How to Save a Life: The Inside Story of Grey's Anatomy, we might finally get some answers.
A snippet of the book, shared by The Hollywood Reporter, touches on the controversial exit.
Former EP James D. Parriott said in the book that Rhimes needed "an Og to come in as sort of a showrunner for 14 episodes” to right the ship.
“There were Hr issues” with Dempsey, according to Parriott.
“It wasn’t sexual in any way. He sort of was terrorizing the set. Some cast members had all sorts of Ptsd with him. He had this hold on the set where he knew he could stop production and scare people," the book continued.

Apparently, that car crash wasn’t really to blame for Derek’s death. In an excerpt from Lynette Rice’s How to Save a Life: The Inside Story of Grey’s Anatomy published Thursday by The Hollywood Reporter, former executive producer James D. Parriott reveals that behind the scenes, things had become so tense between Patrick Dempsey and series creator Shonda Rhimes by Season 11 that she “needed an Og to come in as sort of a showrunner for 14 episodes” to usher the actor off the canvas.
“There were Hr issues” with Dempsey, Parriott continues. “It wasn’t sexual in any way.

Patrick Dempsey’s Season 11 exit from “Grey’s Anatomy” came amid “Hr issues” that weren’t “sexual in any way” and instances of Dempsey — who played Derek “McDreamy” Shepard, the love interest of Ellen Pompeo’s Meredith Grey — “terrorizing the set” of the ABC medical drama, an executive producer from the show says in the upcoming book, “How to Save a Life: The Inside Story of Grey’s Anatomy.”
In an excerpt from author Lynette Rice’s unauthorized “Grey’s” guide, which will be released Sept. 21, published by The Hollywood Reporter, James D. Parriott says series creator Shonda Rhimes “needed an Og to come in as sort of a showrunner for fourteen episodes,” which is what brought him back to “Grey’s” to help in the final days of Dempsey’s tenure there.

Good Girls’ crime spree is coming to an end.
NBC has canceled the drama starring Christina Hendricks, Retta and Mae Whitman after four seasons. The show will end after the network airs its five remaining episodes between now and July.
The hope was that the network and the studio could find a way to return for one more season to close out the story, but they were unable to make the financials work. A contingency plan to move the show to Netflix also did not pan out.
The series will not be shopped elsewhere by studio Universal Television, despite being a decent draw on Netflix, topping its streaming ratings earlier this year.
It marks 4-for-4 cancellations for NBC bubble shows; the network canceled Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist and Manifest earlier this month, while Debris was canceled at the end of May.

NBC has ordered three additional episodes of Good Girls, expanding the upcoming midseason run of the drama series from creator Jenna Bans to 16 episodes. This would be the largest order for Good Girls, which has aired as midseason replacement every year, up from 10 episodes in Season 1 and 13 episodes in Season 2.
Like The Good Place, Good Girls has been a digital success for NBC and sibling Universal TV, which produces the series. In its second season, the show broke its series record for best seven-day non-linear viewership with virtually each new episode, doubling its digital delivery versus Season 1, which led to an early Season 3 renewal.
In digital viewership among adults 18-49, Good Girls surged +115% in Season 2 versus Season 1. After 35 days of linear and digital delayed viewing, the caper more than quadrupled its Live+Same Day 18-49 rating, to a 2.38 rating from a 0.56, and grew by +4.1 million viewers, increasing to 6.4 million persons...

NBC has given a second-season pickup to Good Girls, its new midseason drama from The Family creator Jenna Bans. The series, starring Christina Hendricks, Retta and Mae Whitman, marks the second drama renewed by NBC for next season, joining This Is Us, and the first NBC freshman series to get a Season 2 (unless the Will & Grace revival is counted as a new series).
Boosted by The Voice lead-in, Good Girls has averaged a 1.5 rating in adults 18-49 and 6.1 million viewers overall in L+7 Nielsen ratings. It ranked No. 1 or tied for No. 1 in the time slot versus the ABC and CBS drama competition in 18-49 for each of its past five telecasts when it did not have to face ABC’s The Good Doctor in the Monday 10 Pm hour following the medical drama’s season finale.
While Good Girls‘ demo delivery actually was a tad below that of its predecessor in the hour — new NBC fall drama The Brave, which did not get a back order — Good Girls has been largely well reviewed and has a lucrative deal with Netflix, which benefits the series’ producer, NBC sibling Universal TV. The female drama with comedic overtones became the first series on a Big 4 broadcast networks to land a pact under Netflix’s co-licensing model where the streaming giant pays a significant fee for distributing a show outside of North America.

If you thought that Angel Investigations had hit new levels of bad luck at the start of Hero, then Parting Gifts makes it look like Christmas morning.
For alas, Angel Investigations is not only broke, client-less (the last paying client seems to have been Melissa Burns) and now one man down. Poor old Doyle has fallen victim to the evil Scourge's deadly light ray, and neither Angel nor Cordelia are taking this too well.
Giving Angel some credit though – at least he knows that he's in a fantasy drama. Paying another trip to the Oracles, he's desperate for them to work their mojo to somehow bring Doyle back or reverse time. It's too much like hard work for these two Oracles – such a time-consuming job would distract them from swanning around in their golden palace while listening to harp music and concocting harsh put-downs to lesser mortals. Angel's looking in the wrong place though.

Red Band Society executive producer Rina Mimoun has a vision. A decade or two from now, she hopes that the audience who tuned into her short-lived Fox series about the residents and workers of a hospital pediatric ward will remember it with the same fondness she holds for a one-season wonder from her own youth: Claire Danes’ seminal 1994 drama My So-Called Life.
