Chris Pine would amass a number of successful movies over the years of his career since his breaking out in J.J. Abrams‘ reboot of Star Trek in 2009. The son of CHiPs star Robert Pine had carved out a nice little resume for himself and would make the move to behind the camera as he brought a passion project of his to life with this year’s Poolman. That move was naturally a risk, and unfortunately, Pine’s film would not garner a positive response. Our own Chris Bumbray said in his review, “Poolman ranks with the worst movies I’ve ever reviewed at JoBlo. It’s a stunningly unfunny comic noir vanity project for star Chris Pine, who also directed and co-wrote the film. […] it has already become notorious at the festival for the amount of walkouts taking place at the screenings.”

Similar to many other Hollywood biggies, Chris Pine too comes from an acting background, whose parents were once associated with the showbiz. But while they did enjoy modest success, especially his dad, Robert Pine, it did little to change their life around financially, and the late ’80s would turn out to be the toughest period for the Pine family.
The Wonder Woman star, who has cemented himself as a major A-lister since rising to prominence in the late 2000s, recounted this dark period of his life, and how his parents combated the situation.

The Don’t Worry Darling star also seems ready to spice up his wardrobe. Learn more about Pine’s new comedy mystery movie and out-there look for the premiere.

Cillian Murphy recently had some choice words for his film Red Eye (watch it Here), a Wes Craven-directed thriller that was released back in 2005. But he wasn’t entirely negative. So that got me thinking: Is Red Eye a good film? Or is it more in the so bad it’s good category? I personally saw Red Eye in theaters and have always had a soft spot for it. But if Oppenheimer‘s own Cillian Murphy has an issue with it, maybe it’s worth a second gander. So let’s see whether it’s good, bad, or somewhere in between as we revisit Red Eye in the video embedded above!
Scripted by Carl Ellsworth, who crafted the story with Dan Foos, Red Eye has the following synopsis: In the wake of her grandmother’s funeral, hotel manager Lisa Reisert is waiting to fly back home when she meets charming Jackson Rippner at check-in.

Looks like all those early concerns about whether name stars would walk the picket line ended up being a waste of energy: a strike captain on Saturday recognized Day 100 of the SAG-AFTRA strike by calling out many of the big names who joined the rank and file in those daily protests.
“Instead of talking about who is not on the picket line, let’s celebrate the name talent who have been showing up,” wrote Chelsea Schwartz, who encouraged her followers to add to her thread.
Among those she singled out were Chris Pine, Jennifer Garner, Timothy Olyphant, Mandy Moore, Ben Schwartz, Nick Offerman, Ming-Na Wen, Sam Elliott, Jack Black, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, Margot Robbie, Jon Cryer, Jean Smart, Aubrey Plaza, Adam Scott, Jennifer Grey, Clarke Gregg, Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rhys Darby, Zooey Deschanel, Emily Deschanel, Sterling K Brown, Ben Barnes, Jack Quaid, Robert Pine, Raegan Revord, Tate Donovan,...

Despite the wall-to-wall coverage of Hurricane Katrina, there wasn’t a lot of archival footage of some of the more devastating moments that producers wanted to depict in Apple TV+’s Five Days at Memorial — like when the roof came off the Superdome and the 9th Ward flooding. So VFX supervisor Eric Durst said his team went back “forensically” to research those moments before depicting them in the limited series.
It took nine months alone to re-create the breaching of the 9th Ward levee.
“We had to visualize what that was, the breaching of the lower 9th Ward, where a wave of 12 to 20 feet was unleashed. It was like a tidal wave that wiped out everything in its path,” Durst said at Deadline’s Visual Effects + Screen awards-season event. “We wanted to be as accurate as possible. This event took 1,400 American lives. We had to be very...

The 149th annual Kentucky Derby proved to be as star-studded as ever before on May 6. Before the horses ran the Churchill Downs racetrack, numerous celebs, including Louisville native Jack Harlow, NFL player Patrick Mahomes, and Anna Nicole Smith's daughter, Dannielynn Birkhead, walked the red carpet ahead of the event. As always, the only thing that rivaled the horses was seeing the numerous big hats and gorgeous outfits worn by the race attendees.
Even though the actual race lasts just two minutes, the Kentucky Derby celebration goes on all weekend. On May 5, a long list of celebrities donned their finest party attire to attend the Barnstable Brown Derby Eve Gala and Unbridled Eve Gala. This year's guest list included Chris Pine and his dad, Robert Pine; Justin Hartley; and Jordin Sparks.
For horse aficionados, the highlight of the Kentucky Derby is watching the lightning-fast thoroughbreds make their way around the famed track.

Chris Pine has been making us swoon since he first burst onto the scene in the 2006 romantic comedy "Just My Luck," but his very first TV appearance actually happened when he was just 3 years old. In case you weren't aware, Chris's dad is none other than Robert Pine - the actor who famously played Sgt. Joseph Getraer on NBC's "CHiPs" in the late '70s and early '80s - and in 1983, Chris joined his dad on the show as a boy named Christopher. The two teamed up for an adorable duet of "Hurry, Hurry Climb the Ladder" and melted hearts everywhere.
Of course, this isn't the only glimpse we've gotten of their close bond. Robert often steps out to support his son at his movie premieres, and he previously told Men's Journal, "You never encourage your children to attempt this business. It can be just too painful and heartbreaking.

A call for action and innovation in the fight against climate change rang out during the first day of the annual Environmental Media Association Impact Summit. Held at Pendry West Hollywood in partnership with Apple TV+ and The Hollywood Reporter, entertainment and sustainability leaders focused on the positive impact of environmentally conscious storytelling in the global media landscape.
“The time is now to support personal action for our climate health,” Ema CEO Debbie Levin said as the summit kicked off Wednesday. “This is a century that keeps on surprising us — storms, torrential rain, floods, earthquakes, snow and, sadly, human unrest as well. But in this room, we represent the best of us and the most innovative and the most authentically conscious. We are the change makers.”

Loss is something just about any audience member can relate to, but it’s not necessarily something that everyone can mine for art. Nell Teare, the writer-director-star of the indie film “Bolivar,” faced this challenge head on in telling the story of Maggie (Teare), a professor trying to resume her career and family life after a crushing personal tragedy and divorce. She stifles her sadness by downing glasses of wine and managing a one-night stand with Jake, a bartender (Chris Petrovski) who gets pulled into her increasingly odd behavior.

The other person’s response is simple: “Oh no, you cannot imagine. You have no idea.” It’s an indicative exchange for this Apple TV+ series, not just because it lays plain the emotions involved, 17 years later. It’s that the show is trying to embody both sides of the conversation at once.
Over eight episodes, “Five Days at Memorial” does its utmost to faithfully recreate the conditions of a hospital in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, effectively cordoned off from a rescue effort struggling to help any neighbors, too. Yet, in those moments of merely recreating the look and the feel of new Orleans’ Memorial Medical Center...

This Friday, Five Days at Memorial premieres on Apple TV+ with three episodes.
Based on the bestselling non-fiction book of the same name by Sherri Fink, it's a harrowing, thought-provoking, and sometimes gruesome look at five days at Memorial Hospital in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
It's a massive undertaking, but co-creators and executive producers Carlton Cuse and John Ridley have a firm grasp of the material.
Cuse and Ridley not only wrote the series but, between them, directed the first five episodes. Those are the episodes that will stick with you long after the show's conclusion.
You'll be dropped right into the commotion at Memorial on Friday with the three-episode premiere.
Hurricane Katrina elicits thoughts on the nature of the storm, but it was when the levees broke that New Orleans was left unprepared and unable to, quite literally, weather the storm.

Crowds at the DGA theater in Los Angeles were buzzing on Monday night when Chris Pine made a surprise appearance on the red carpet. Pine came out to the “Five Days at Memorial” premiere to support his dad, Robert Pine, in his newest acting endeavor.
The father-son duo posed together before Chris made his way into the theater, letting his father walk the line to talk to the press.
For Robert, his decision to get involved with this project came down to the script. “John Ridley and Carlton Cuse wrote [the script], and you just don’t get good writing like that all the time,” Pine told Variety. “I mean, any actor here can tell you that. So when something like that comes up — whether it’s even a small role or whatever — you leap on it because you want to be part of something like that.”
