Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was keen to pay homage to the franchise’s past in many ways. One of the coolest was the vocal cameos from many stars from across Sw history in the big climactic fight between Rey and Palpatine. When it looks like the heroine is out for the count, she’s spoken to by the Jedi of the past who imbue her with renewed strength and allow her to stand up against her evil grandfather and save the galaxy.
There are many overlapping, whispering voices in the mix during this scene, so it can be hard to pinpoint them all. This new promo video for the Rise of Skywalker digital release showcases a few of them, though. And as you can see in the tweet below, the clip plays the relevant audio over footage of the Jedi in the flesh.
The Force surrounds you… let it lift you.

(This article describes parts of the ending of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” So, yes, that means major spoilers are ahead.)
There’s a lot of baggage that comes with trying to make a movie that serves as a climax of a nine-movie saga, and so “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” had a lot of obligations to fulfill. And we figured that one of those obligations that it would fulfill was to feature some cameos from past characters in the franchise. And at the end of the movie we were delivered a bulk order of cameos, including some from the animated TV series “Rebels” and “Clone Wars.”
So in the climactic battle, Rey’s been knocked flat on her back, Palpatine having sucked the life force or something out of her and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). Earlier, Palpatine had bragged that the spirits of all the Sith lords...

In Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, J.J. Abrams delivers 142 minutes of unabashed fan service, and that applies not just to the movie’s numerous “corrections” to The Last Jedi’s more divisive developments, but also the film’s many cameos from various familiar faces and franchise favorites. And as we break down the most noteworthy figures to make an appearance, be warned that some major spoilers lie ahead.
One cameo we knew about long before the film’s release was Mark Hamill, who once more returns as Luke Skywalker both in flashback and in Force Ghost form. On the other hand, you may not have even noticed Warwick Davis, who was well disguised in the role of Ewok leader Wicket W. Warrick.
Meanwhile, actress Jodie Comer appears as Rey’s mother, and while The Rise of Skywalker serves as her Star Wars debut, you just might recognize her from...

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker doesn’t just bring the decades-spanning Skywalker Saga to a close, but also incorporates elements from the various other branches that the Lucasfilm franchise has spawned over the years, including the numerous animated TV shows. Nowhere is this more apparent than at a pivotal moment in the film’s climax, and as we delve into this fan-pleasing passage, be warned that some major spoilers lie ahead.
Those of you who’ve seen the movie already will likely recall the scene where Rey is at her lowest moment, seemingly defeated by Emperor Palpatine, only for the many voices of past Jedi to empower the heroine to get up and fight back. And while several of these voice cameos will be recognizable to even the most casual Star Wars fan, others may be a little harder to pin down.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker celebrates the legacy of all three trilogies, which means there are tons of easter eggs to be found!
This article contains major The Rise of Skywalker spoilers. You can read a spoiler free review here instead.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker brings not only the Sequel Trilogy to an end but nine movies’ worth of storytelling. As you can imagine, there are Tons of easter eggs, references, and callbacks to past Star Wars movies and the Expanded Universe (both Legends and Disney canon) woven into the tapestry of this latest installment.
As I've done with The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, I've started picking apart and dissecting the film for all of its nerdy bits. This is still a work-in-progress, which means that you're welcome to call out easter eggs and references in the movie that I might have missed.
