When rumors flew that Beck Bennett, Kyle Mooney, John Milhiser, and Noel Wells would join the Saturday Night Live cast for the sketch comedy program's 39th season, I wasted no time in connecting all four of these players to their various roles on YouTube. As it turns out, the official list of new arrivals has even deeper ties to online video. All five new cast members have featured prominently on the Internet, and one of the new writers is partially responsible for a classic YouTube web series. For the uninitiated, Bennett and Mooney have a 179,000-subscriber audience for their Good Neighbor sketch channel. Wells also sports an 11 million strong viewcount on her channel, best known for the six episodes of Hey! The Zooey Deschanel Show. Milhiser doesn't have a channel of his own, but since he was first linked to SNL, he has starred in several videos on Above Average.

"Breaking Bad" star Aaron Paul is making his first break into mainstream Hollywood, and it turns out he's got a need for speed.
DreamWorks announced back in June that it's going to make a "Need for Speed" movie based on the popular video game series, and Entertainment Weekly has learned that Paul will be the man behind the wheel. It's unclear what route this story will take, but we're guessing Paul will again be playing a man on the wrong side of the law.
This casting news has earned "Need for Speed" a lot of credibility. Paul earned an Emmy (his second) for his turn as Jesse Pinkman in "Breaking Bad" this year, and it was well-deserved. He's added plenty of depth to a character that easily could have been one dimensional and, though he had five seasons to do it in "Breaking Bad" and will only have two hours or so in this movie,...

Marc Forster didn't have fantastic luck with 007, but he's weaving another web of intrigue by signing up for the Robert Ludlum political thrilla The Chancellor Manuscript. Variety indicates that Paramount paid $4 million back in 2005 to acquire the title, which is a boatload of cash for book rights. It will be co-produced by Leonardo DiCaprio, who is also in line to star.
The script is on its third draft, and sometimes that's a good thing, sometimes it's a bad thing. In general, you want fewer writers involved or at least fewer stages of the writing. Right now it's in the hands of Patrick O'Brien, whom Variety says is also crafting the story for the next Halo game. Not the long-awaited movie that's no closer to happening than it was a few years ago, but the next video game, Halo: Reach.
Ludlum is still a booming business, even without a fourth Jason...

He said as much to our good selves in an interview a couple of months ago, but Russell Crowe has once again talked up the possibility of returning to the seafaring world of Master and Commander.Crowe first played Patrick O'Brien's Captain Jack Aubrey, the protagonist of twenty novels, in 2003, when Peter Weir's Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World was released to critical approval, reasonable box office and ten Oscar nominations. The film contained elements of three of the original novels: the two namechecked in the franchise-starter title, plus the chase around Cape Horn from Desolation Island. That still leaves a good eighteen and a half novels ripe for movie attention however, and USA Today reports Crowe confirming that a script based on 1986's The Reverse of the Medal has been completed. The Reverse of the Medal is the eleventh in the sequence of novels,...

It was late last year when we first learned that Universal had nabbed the rights to the upcoming Electronics Arts video game version of Dante's Inferno. And now word has come down via Variety that the person who will be writing the live-action film is Dan Harris (X2, Superman Returns).
According to the trade, Strike Entertainment's Mark Abraham and Eric Newman are producing in conjunction with EA Entertainment. EA veep Patrick O'Brien and game creator Jonathan Knight are also involved in the development of the film.
Harris is no stranger to the depths of hell he'll be visiting in the course of adapting Dante's Inferno. He's currently involved with a project called I, Lucifer as both director and co-writer, in which the devil gets one last chance at redemption in the body of a suicidal writer.
