Thanks to The Wachowskis and Joel Silver, Keanu Reeves’ The Matrix saw the light of day after several roadblocks the movie endured. The sci-fi masterpiece went on to be a huge hit opening doors for more installments to the franchise.

They even took a different approach to presenting the screenplay. But then another set of challenges were lurking above the project, the constant rejections from the favored stars for the primary roles.

Classic 1970s television series Kung Fu is heading to the big screen, and Donnie Yen will star – more here.
A feature film based on the classic 1970s TV series Kung Fu has been in development for some time, and now it seems to be moving forward at Universal Pictures and 87North.
According to Deadline, John Wick director David Leitch will helm the film from a screenplay by Stephen Chin, with Ip Man star Donnie Yen set to play Kwai Chang Caine, a role first inhabited by David Carradine.
Martial arts icon Bruce Lee famously auditioned for the lead role in the original 1972 series, but lost out, of course, to Carradine. He played Caine, a spiritual monk who roams the Old West in the 1800s, wandering into confrontations and fist fights every week. The show proved popular, with phrases like ‘grasshopper’ making their way into the cultural lexicon.

Jet Li rose to prominence for his action roles in the 1980s. While he chose not to star in The Matrix, he did appear in Lethal Weapon 4 and Hitman.
Fans have seen him appear on screen with other popular actors. However, there was one person who Li had been trying to work with for years. Jackie Chan and Li have known each other for a long time. The two had a 20-year quest to join a project together.

Jet Li is one of the most renowned martial arts stars of his generation. The actor has thrilled audiences for decades. And yet, even with a filmography as loaded with iconic films as is, there will always be a few that slip away. Such is the case with Li, who famously turned down a few big movies over the years. Here are some of the biggest movie roles he left behind.
Jet Li has appeared in countless beloved movies Jet Li attends the Premiere Of Disney’s “Mulan” I Gregg DeGuire/FilmMagic
Li made his Hollywood debut in 1998’s Lethal Weapon 4 opposite Mel Gibson and Danny Glover. In that movie, he played the villain. And it led to many other major Hollywood productions for the star, including Romeo Must Die, The One, Kiss of the Dragon, all three entries in The Expendables franchise, and most recently, Disney’s live-action Mulan.

It’s not often that a Sammo Hung movie gets overlooked, but in 1993 and with the New Wave of action cinema at it’s apex, “Blade of Fury” was one that in retrospect probably doesn’t get talked about as much as you would think. The Producer Lo Wei has less consistency and, let’s be honest, even his Bruce Lee pictures are not exactly the best directed. So, watching this is an experience as who will be the bigger influence on the product and stamp their identity upon it. Whilst it is certainly a flawed piece, it has enough moments within that make it worthy of rediscovery.

In many ways, The Matrix Resurrections feels like a remake: Thomas Anderson is trapped inside the simulation once again, waiting to be woken up in the real world. A new group of runners led by Morpheus are fighting the Agents and Machines that threaten Zion. Once again, Keanu Reeves’ Neo is faced with a choice: the red pill or the blue pill?
But as much as history seems to be repeating itself, Resurrections is also a continuation of the trilogy of films that concluded with Revolutions in 2003. Not only is the new sequel bringing back characters like Niobe (Jada Pinckett Smith) and the Merovingian (Lambert Wilson) but Warner Bros. has also confirmed the return of another character from Revolutions.

“The Battle at Lake Changjin” is on course to become one of the top three films of all time in China after dominating proceedings at the mainland Chinese box office for a third successive weekend.
A patriotic war film, “Changjin” earned $73 million between Friday and Sunday to extend its cumulative total to $769 million since being released on Sept. 30, according to data from consultancy Artisan Gateway.
In second place, “My Country, My Parents” earned $14.6 million, to extend its running total past $200 million to $210 million.

Achieving world-wide fame is one of the biggest things an actor can accomplish. Sure it’s awesome when people from your part of the world recognize you, but it’s a great feeling to have your work acknowledged thousands of miles from home. Picture a modernized, queer-teen version of Cyrano de Bergerac, in which the title character is a closeted Chinese-American girl who’s hired by a tongue-tied jock to write love letters to win the heart and mind the high-school queen they both secretly love. That’s the starting point for Alice Wu’s sweetly subversive The Half of It, a romcom (streaming on Netflix starting May 1st) that undercuts Hollywood formula at every turn.

Like many teen movies, “The Half of It” begins with an animated illustration of the origins of love from Plato’s Symposium, much like that other queer cinema classic, “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.” What’s that? The last Ya movie you watched on Netflix didn’t devote entire scenes to explaining the major tenets of existentialism through discussions on “No Exit”? From waxing poetic on Wim Wenders to cleverly chosen “Casablanca” references, “The Half of It” is a smart riff on “Cyrano de Bergerac” that celebrates friendship and self-acceptance over romance. It’s no wonder the film so — writer/director Alice Wu knows her stuff.
Best known for her 2004 indie hit “Saving Face,” Wu makes her long-awaited return to feature filmmaking with this breezy and heartfelt teen comedy. Though both of Wu’s films follow young Chinese-American women coming into their queerness, “The Half of It” is clearly aimed...

"You know what it's like to finally meet someone your age who gets you?" Netflix has revealed the first official trailer for The Half of It, premiering direct to streaming at the start of May. Written and directed by Alice Wu, the film is "a heartfelt comedy-of-errors about searching for perfect love—and finding yourself in the process." A shy, introverted, Chinese-American, straight-a student finds herself helping the school jock woo the girl they both secretly love. In the process, each teaches the other about the nature of love as they find connection in the most unlikely of places. Leah Lewis stars as Ellie, joined by Daniel Diemer, Alexxis Lemire, Enrique Murciano, Wolfgang Novogratz, Catherine Curtin, also with Becky Ann Baker and Collin Chou. This sounds similar to Netflix's To All the Boys I've Loved Before, but the trailer plays differently, with the two main characters falling for the same person.

Jet Li had the chance to join one of the biggest franchises in Hollywood circa the early 2000s when the Wachowski siblings offered him the part of Seraph in “The Matrix Reloaded.” The role had originally been written as a woman and offered to Michele Yeoh, but she turned it down because of scheduling conflicts. Li was the Wachowski’s first choice for Seraph after they switched the character’s gender, but Li also turned the role down. Over a decade later, Li has finally revealed the reason why he made the choice (via Abacus).
“It was a commercial struggle for me,” Li said, “I realized the Americans wanted me to film for three months but be with the crew for nine. And for six months, they wanted to record and copy all my moves into a digital library. By the end of the recording, the right to these moves would go to them.

I have decided that to make the list, a movie must have a few hand to hand moments during fight scenes in the movies chosen. If for example its mainly sword play with one fight scene hand to hand it won’t make the list. Its old school “style” Kung Fu movies, not modern day settings.
I understand everyone will have their own personal favorites and some may not agree with my list and that’s fine because it’s nice to have different opinions on this genre which keeps it fresh and alive when having good debates.
Anyway, thank you...

What we lack more and more these days are epic fight scenes in the final part of kung Fu/Martial Art movies. We have seen less and less one on one fight scenes in the final battle over the past 15-20 years, which is a shame but we have seen recently a few flicks bringing that winning formula back.
I want to name a few of my favorite end fight scenes and please feel free to comment below, your favorite fight scenes and maybe they will be added to the future features.
1.Flash Point (2007)
Cast:Donnie Yen, Collin Chou, Louis Koo, Xing Yu, Kent Cheng

The Divine Constabulary are back in the awkwardly titled “The Four 2”, with director Gordon Chan serving up more fantasy martial arts and mystery in the second part of a planned trilogy based on the novels by Wen Ruian. Like its predecessor, the film is a big budget blockbuster, shot in 3D and featuring an avalanche of special effects and computer enhanced action, continuing the story of Emotionless (Crystal Liu Yifei, “The Assassins”), Iron Hands (Collin Chou, “Special ID”), Life Snatcher (Ronald Cheng, “Vulgaria”) and Cold Blood (Deng Chao, “American Dreams in China”) as they come up against new and old foes and confront their own troubled pasts. Led by Master Zhuge (the legendary Anthony Wong), the Divine Constabulary are called in to investigate a series of murders and massacres, with links to the slaughter of Emotionless’ own family some 15 years back. Butting heads again with Department Six, they find their...

Jet Li, star of countless classic martial arts movies, teams up with the producer of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Kung Fu Hustle for Badge of Fury (aka Badges of Fury) a crime drama caper that is more caper than crime… Even though, at least on paper this would seem like a perfect Hong Kong action flick:
When a spate of murders erupt across Hong Kong, two kick-ass cops are assigned to the case. Chaos soon escalates when they reach a dead end and the detectives must play a deadly game to lure the killer out.

The cops can’t control him. The mob wants him dead. And time is running out. Legendary action icon Donnie Yen (Ip Man, Hero) returns to contemporary films as a deep undercover police officer in the action-packed mob drama Special ID. In addition to Yen and Chou (The Matrix trilogy, Badges of Fury), Special ID also stars Tian Jing (Police Story 2013) and Hanyu Zhang (Back to 1942, White Vengeance) under the direction of Clarence Fok Yiu-leung (Snakeheads, Together). Bonus materials include a behind-the-scenes featurette and it hits Us Blu and DVD May 13th. Donnie-tastic indeed! Synopsis: Yen takes on the role of “Dragon” Chen, a Hong Kong undercover police officer deep within the ranks of one of China’s most ruthless underworld gangs. The leader of the gang, Xiong (Collin Chou), has made it his priority to weed out the government infiltrators in his midst. Struggling to keep his family together and his identity concealed,...

With weighty performances - by his standards at least - in the IP Man series, Donnie Yen has been taking himself more seriously of late. That's about to change with the upcoming release of box office juggernaut, The Monkey King, but 2013's Special ID is further proof that Donnie Yen still has a goofy side. If you're expecting the further adventures of crime blockbuster Spl, look away now. Special ID is, for the most part, lightweight escapism. Even if it does include the obligatory gang fights, gun battles and high speed car chases. However, unlike the aforementioned Spl, Donnie Yen kicks his way through Special ID with a wink and a smile. Andy On, Zhang Hanyu and Jing Tian - in full-on kick ass heroine mode - add to the appeal of this carefree endeavour. Undercover cop Chan Tze Lung (Donnie Yen) has spent years in the underworld collecting evidence...

Like several of his contemporaries including Jackie Chan and Donnie Yen, Jet Li has been stuck in a rut of period pieces for the past few years. Sure he has glorified cameos in The Expendables films and he made a drama (the excellent Ocean Heaven) too, but for lead action roles? It’s been a string of historical epics since 2007. Happily, also like Chan (Police Story 2013) and Yen (Special ID), Li is finally returning with an action flick set in modern times. Badges of Fury teams him up with the equally awesome Collin Chou (Flashpoint) and Wu Jing (Spl) in a story about cops tasked with stopping a serial killer who’s been targeting a popular singer’s ex-boyfriends. The original Hong Kong trailer released over the summer and gave some of us reason to pause with its lack of action and focus on untranslatable humor. Now that the film is getting a release in the States...

With the sequel to Gordon Chan's martial arts fantasy The Four nearing release in Hong Kong the final poster for the film has arrived along with a series of striking - other than the font - illustrated character posters for all of the major players. One of which raises the question: What on earth is on Anthony Wong's arm? I haven't caught up with the original film yes so perhaps I'm missing something obvious but while the attachment has the look of an early machine gun the swirling patterns around it make me think ... vacuum cleaner? What on earth is that thing?Anthony Wong, Collin Chou, Chao Deng and Crystal Liu all return to reprise their roles from the first film. Check the new posters...

Though Gordon Chan's martial arts fantasy The Four may not have set the world on fire it is certainly not without its fans and it performed well enough at the box office to trigger a full trilogy of films with the second now gearing up for release in Hong Kong and China.Anthony Wong, Collin Chou, Chao Deng and Crystal Liu all return for what promises - again - to be a throwback to the dark magic infused martial arts fantasies of the 80s, only with much better VFX. Spl aka Kill Zone. Flashpoint. Ip Man. Bodyguards & Assassins. Ip Man 2. Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen. Wu Xia aka Dragon. I’m not shy about my love for Donnie Yen and the blistering brutality he’s capable of dealing out through his lightning-quick beat downs, an especially impressive feat seeing as he’s only four feet tall, but I’ve also been vocal in my wish to see him give the period films a rest. He’s made some great ones, obviously, but there’s something about seeing his Mma-infused martial arts in action in a contemporary setting. The alley brawl from Spl? The final fight from Flashpoint? Happily the six year drought is over as the next several months will see Yen kicking ass in two modern day settings. Iceman hits next year and starts in the Ming Dynasty where Yen’s character is frozen only to be thawed out in modern...

Action director Donnie Yen is taking the fierce "Ultimate fighting" style as previously shown in the Hong Kong contemporary crime thriller Spl and Flashpoint to the next level in Clarence Fok's Special ID. For the action design, Yen continues to incorporate a variety of Mixed Martial Arts techniques, fusing not only stand-up striking but also Brazilian jiu-jitsu and grappling to choreograph the brutal street brawl while utilizing great fighting talents such as Ken Lo (Drunken Master II), Andy On (Unbeatable) and Collin Chou (Flashpoint). While the latest behind-the-scenes video feature an interview with the action hero himself without English subtitles, it does however showcase his action directing efforts and it looks pretty damn good. There is also an extended version of the Bts video from last...

Martial arts fans relishing the chance of seeing Jet Li square off against an assortment of villainous screen legends under Corey Yuen's action direction may well be left disappointed, as Badges of Fury really wants to be a goofy comedy vehicle for Wen Zhang and Michelle Chen. The cast boasts a number of proven martial arts stars, including Wu Jing, Collin Chou and Bruce Leung, sharing the screen with a host of cameo appearances from hot young talent like Huang...

Like so many international film stars (and filmmakers) before him, Jet Li came to America looking to conquer Hollywood but found that his best work remained the movies he made back home. He hit our shores in 1998 as the sole bright spot in Lethal Weapon 4 before heading up some films of varying quality including Romeo Must Die, Kiss of the Dragon and the woefully underseen Danny the Dog (aka Unleashed). Nine years later though and he was apparently done making movies on this side of the pond (aside from supporting roles in Sylvester Stallone’s Expendables trilogy). Unsurprisingly his best film in that period was the Chinese production of Hero. Li’s worked steadily back in China since then averaging up to two films per year, but aside from the Stallone flicks they’ve all been period pieces. That’s set to change this summer with the release of Badges of Fury, and...

It's not often you get a solid genre crossover movie. While Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Edgar Wright have made a (wildly entertaining) hobby out of it, it's otherwise an uncommon occurrence. Therefore it's something of a pleasure for us to introduce to you Gordon Chan's The Four, which crosses espionage with superheroes, a counterfeiting scandal, kung fu, and zombies. If it seems a bit eclectic, that's because it is, but wonderfully so. The Four stars Deng Chao, Liu Yi Fei, Collin Chou, Ronald Cheng, and Anthony Wong, and it's all kinds of crazy. If you enjoy flicks like Woochi: The Demon Slayer or Kung Fu Hustle, The Four will be right up your alley.
