Blumhouse's "Firestarter," based on Stephen King's novel, has just dropped a new track as a part of the upcoming film's score, composed by none other than John Carpenter himself. Carpenter has created this original track alongside composers Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies, who have worked on the score for the "Halloween" franchise."
King's "Firestarter" was adapted into a 1984 film, which was a commercial failure and criticized for being too uninspired in its tone and execution. A TV miniseries sequel titled "Firestarter: Rekindled" followed soon after, with Marguerite Moreau assuming the role of Charlene McGee, who happens to be, well, the firestarter. Chicago – The evolution of the “local filmmaker” always seems to be defined through where that person is. Jack C. Newell appears to not be measured by time and place, but as a filmmaker of artistic vision with a basis in love. His latest film, “Monuments,” opens June 4th, 2021, through the Gene Siskel Film Center virtual cinema.
Written and directed by Newell, “Monuments” is a comedy about grief with a dash of hopeless romance and a sprinkling of adventure, this melange is a quintessential indie road movie, featuring expansive cinematography and an unexpected musical score by acclaimed Takénobu. Filmed on location partly in Chicago, “Monuments” brings together an eclectic cast led by David Sullivan and Marguerite Moreau as a devoted couple whose love cannot be diminished by death. The family of Moreau’s character has other plans, and the comic element of the film comes from that conflict.

It’s oddly appropriate that grief-stricken widower Ted (David Sullivan) spends most of Jack C. Newell’s “Monuments” schlepping his wife’s ashes around the geographical midpoint of the continental U.S.A. This dippily surreal existential comedy — imagine Quentin Dupieux engineering a head-on collision between “Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia” and “Little Miss Sunshine” — feels like it’s born of the exact middle ground between the big-budget escapist mainstream and the hardcore arthouse “coasts” of American cinematic output. It’s in a flyover state of mind.
Any other year, no big deal — there has traditionally been no shortage of Sundance-y, SXSW-y low-budget American filmmaking to which the awful adjective “quirky” can be applied. But right now “Monuments” — which at least has no smirk in its quirk — getting a theatrical release makes a hopeful, daffy case for the U.S. indie still having a role to play in the polarized post-pandemic movie landscape.

"It was never about tombs or gods or monuments... Happiness for us was uncomplicated." Row House has released an official trailer for an indie drama titled Monuments, which originally premiered at last year's Nashville Film Festival in the fall. A grieving widower decides to travel across the country in a stolen pick-up truck, determined to scatter his wife's ashes in Chicago. Ted attempts to sidestep more grief, loss, and familial dysfunction when he steals his wife's ashes and sets off on an impulsive odyssey through America's heartland to find something he'd lost long before her death. The film stars Marguerite Moreau as Laura, David Sullivan as Ted, Javier Muñoz as Howl, and Shunori Ramanathan as Amber. This looks good, the dark comedy makes it better. Along with the strange musical song in the background of this trailer. Huh. Here's the new official trailer (+ poster) for Jack C. Newell's Monuments,...

Our faithful captain was nowhere to be seen as the original Ducks returned to town
(Warning: Slight spoilers ahead for this week’s episode of “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers”)
This week’s episode of “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers” gave those who grew up on the films exactly what they were looking for — the return of the original Ducks. Well, most of them at least. And, as great as it was seeing the former Ducks we did get, there was a notable absence: Charlie.
The episode brought the return of six original Ducks: Fulton Reed (Elden Henson), Adam Banks (Vinny La Russo), Kenny Wu (Justin Wong), Averman (Matt Doherty), Connie (Marguerite Moreau) and Guy (Garret Henson). They were all back to town for the Spirit of the Ducks gala, celebrating the history of the team.
Charlie Conway, played by Joshua Jackson, was the original captain of the Mighty Ducks.

It would be nice to say that every cast member from The Mighty Ducks found a great deal of success following the initial movie that ended up being one of those that many people still remember fondly to this day, but that’s not the case. Several of them attempted to keep their careers going and a few even managed to last for a while, but when it came down to it, only a very few did much as they continued to grow. Marguerite Moreau is one of those that has had a full career for many years now, even if

To be quite honest I’d be more than happy to see a revival or sequel to Firestarter since Firestarter: Rekindled with Marguerite Moreau and Malcolm McDowell wasn’t the best movie, but it had a good idea. Charlie McGee had been on the run from the government all that time in the TV movie, but this time around it would appear that one of Stephen King’s best novels is going to be rebooted entirely. It’s not the first time this is happening obviously since It received the same treatment, though in all honesty, its first version was a TV miniseries. It

Ducks fly together. It was true in the 90s, and it’s still true in the new Disney+ series “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers” — they’re just far more exclusive about who they’ll fly with now.
In this continuation, the Mighty Ducks are no longer the scrappy underdogs, and instead have become the “if you’re not a winner, you’re a loser” team. They’re led by Coach T (Dylan Playfair) who is blunt and apathetic, who cuts our new hero Evan Morrow from the team without so much as a sympathetic pat on the shoulder. He simply says “At this age, if you can’t be great at hockey, it’s like…don’t bother.

Gordon Bombay is back, but a lot has changed since we last caught up with him. The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers will introduce a down-and-out Bombay who’s reached his low point living at the hockey rink he inherited from his mentor Hans. It’s a stark contrast to the smiling man we saw walking away from a cheering crowd in D3: The Mighty Ducks.
“He’s a little broken. He’s a little beat up by life, and he’s kind of hiding out,” Emilio Estevez, who reprises his role as Bombay on the Disney+ series (premiering this Friday), tells TVLine.

Firestarter, the Stephen King novel-turned-film, is already cemented in pop culture history with the iconic 1984 poster image of child star Drew Barrymore, who’s seen ominously emotionless in front of a blaze caused by her unbridled pyrokinetic powers; an image that was a clear inspiration for Stranger Things’ Eleven. However, the current crop of King-adapting films and television will see a Firestarter remake, which now has a headliner in Zac Efron.
Studios Universal, Blumhouse and Weed Road are moving forward with efforts for a Firestarter remake movie, and have announced its first cast member in Zac Efron, who will serve as one of its headlining stars, although his character was not disclosed. He will be in front of the camera for appointed director Keith Thomas (The Vigil), who works off a script by Scott Teems (Halloween Kills), joined by producers Jason Blum and Akiva Goldsman (who was the originally-tapped director). The series stars Holly Taylor, Tequan Richmond, An Li Bogan, Willow Shields, Alex Lange, Noah Grismer, Marguerite Moreau, and David Rogers -- a melange of both traditional actors and digital stars. ‘Into The Ashes’ Is A Stylish Revenge Thriller That Relies Too Heavily On Genre Conventions [Review]
Aaron Harvey’s visually interesting, but ultimately lethargic, Western-noir “Into the Ashes” attempts to synthesize brooding character study with a violent action film, but instead, ends up falling short of being a quality example of either. Favoring large sections of silence before violent outbursts, Harvey’s latest directorial effort has style but is bogged down by thin characterization and a by-the-numbers plot that the film never manages to transcend.
“Into the Ashes” follows reformed criminal Nick (Luke Grimes), who is trying to live a simple life with a job at an upholstery store and a loving wife (Marguerite Moreau).

"A man can only see so much darkness before he goes blind..." Rlje Films has released an official trailer for an indie crime thriller titled Into The Ashes, the latest from filmmaker Aaron Harvey. Described as reminiscent of "hard-boiled action/thrillers from the '70s/'80s", Into The Ashes is about an ex-con trying to settle down in rural Alabama who believes he has escaped his violent past, only to find his old crew hasn’t forgotten about him or the money he stole. And they don't want to let him get away. Sounds a lot like every other gritty rural crime thriller, and it looks like every other one, too. Starring Luke Grimes as Nick, along with Frank Grillo, Marguerite Moreau, Robert Taylor, James Badge Dale, Brady Smith, Andrea Frankle, Rob Mello, Scott Peat, David Maldonado, David Cade, and Jeff Pope. The best part of this is Grillo...

"I'm the dying guy!" "I'm the other guy!" Netflix has released the first full trailer for an indie comedy titled Paddleton, the latest feature from the director of Blue Jay. The film is premiering at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival in a few weeks, then arrives on Netflix in February. Paddleton is about the unlikely friendship between two misfit neighbors when one of them is diagnosed with terminal cancer. They go on an emotional journey together, chasing emus and getting into all kinds of wacky trouble, of course. The film stars Ray Romano and Mark Duplass, who co-wrote the screenplay with the director. The small cast also includes Marguerite Moreau, Christine Woods, Alexandra Billings, and Matt Bush. This looks pretty good. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Alex Lehmann's Paddleton, direct from YouTube: An unlikely friendship between two misfit neighbors becomes an unexpectedly emotional journey when the younger...

This year’s festival will play home to at least one melancholic buddy comedy from the Duplass brothers, thanks to Alex Lehmann’s “Paddleton.” The dramedy reunited the three-time filmmaker with his “Blue Jay” writer and star Mark Duplass — who also produced the film, alongside his brother Jay Duplass — and adds in beloved “Big Sick” co-star Ray Romano for a story of two mismatched pals who undertake an “unexpectedly emotional journey.”
Per the film’s official synopsis: “An unlikely friendship between two misfit neighbors becomes an unexpectedly emotional journey when the younger man is diagnosed with terminal cancer.” The film’s first trailer doesn’t shy away form the tough stuff — Duplass’ character is terminally ill, and he’s hellbent on doing some bucket list stuff before ending his life on his own terms — but it also plays up the bond between the film’s main characters without getting too...

Sometimes talent gets hidden away or put right in front of your face while still going unnoticed. Marguerite Moreau has been involved in a great number of projects that have utilized her in ways that seem as though they kind of tuck her up and away from the real action while still maintaining that she’s a big part of it. In many ways people will remember her as “that girl from…” and never really know her name. But quite honestly she’s a great actress and can take the lead or play a supporting role with an equal amount of grace

David Pasquesi, Joel Murray, and Shunori Ramanathan round out the cast.
The movie marks Munoz’s first film role since departing the Broadway production of “Hamilton.” He stepped into the title role following Lin-Manuel Miranda’s exit and played Alexander Hamilton from mid 2016 until early 2018.

I have never been the biggest fan of the original ‘Wet Hot American Summer‘. Although it has attained cult status over the years, I never found the film to be memorable as others do. In fact, when Netflix revived the franchise a little over two years ago with an eight episode prequel series titled “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp“, I pretty much had the same feeling. With the latest entry in the revival, “Wet Hot American Summer: 10 Years Later“, we finally get a true sequel to the original. And the premise is simple: the campers and counsels of camp firewood reunite a decade later to fulfill their promise made in the first film. Hilarity ensues. But the question still remains; does it follow the aforementioned trend of it’s predecessors? Well, the simple answer is no–but the more complicated answer, is inevitably yes.

Wet Hot American Summer was a 2001 comedy from David Wain (Role Models, The State, Stella) set in 1981 and starring Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Michael Showalter, Marguerite Moreau, Paul Rudd, Zack Orth, Christoper Meloni, A.D. Miles, Molly Shannon, Ken Marino, Michael Ian Black, Bradley Cooper, Elizabeth Banks, Jon H. Benjamin and Amy Poehler. If that sounds like an A-List cast, that's because many of the current stars in the group were not so famous or in demand at the time. The film focused on these counselors on the last day of camp at Camp Firewood, one of the jokes being that all the actors were playing well under their age range.
Then, fourteen years later in 2015, Netflix released a prequel in the form of a TV series, making the ages of the cast even more ridiculous, in typical Wain fashion. Joining the original, now star-studded cast in Wet Hot American Summer: First Day Of Camp...

While the original 2001 movie Wet Hot American Summer turned into something of a cult hit, nobody could have predicted that this absurdist comedic tale of camp counsellors and their exploits at Camp Firewood would go on to spawn a franchise – but here we are. With news that Netflix plans to follow up its limited series prequel – Wet Hot American Summer: First Day Of Camp – with a limited series sequel, we also have the announcement that Jai Courtney has joined the cast. That means the upcoming Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later will have some Suicide Squad-level star power.
The original movie was star-studded all on its own. Co-written and directed by David Wain, with Michael Showalter also penning the script, Wet Hot American Summer featured an ensemble cast that included Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Michael Showalter, Marguerite Moreau, Christopher Meloni, Molly Shannon, Ken Marino, and Joe Lo Truglio.

Why, God? Why?
Deadline reports that Jai Courtney — yes, the bland, forgettable actor of A Good Day to Die Hard, Terminator Genisys, and Suicide Squad fame — has been cast in Netflix's upcoming Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later. How can an actor so terrible fit in with a franchise I love so much?
Courtney plays Garth MacArthur, a suave, indie movie darling who is about to become a household name. Garth is recognized wherever he goes, but his eyes aren’t on the fans. He’s mad about Susie (Amy Poehler) and wishes she would agree to take their relationship beyond “friends with benefits.” He joins her on the trip back to Camp Firewood.
