Seinfeld character George Costanza was based on co-creator Larry David. Jason Alexander embodied him on Seinfeld and created an indelible character. When Alexander first read the pilot script for Seinfeld, he didn’t know David from Adam. So Alexander did a Woody Allen impression in his first audition. Fortunately, NBC gave him another chance.

Considering Seinfeld became “a show about nothing” in George’s own words, it’s not too surprising Alexander’s first impression was Allen. Allen’s movies were usually about men, played by Allen himself, talking about their relationships in Annie Hall, Manhattan,...

Before Seinfeld, Jason Alexander had another major claim to fame. He was in the blockbuster movie Pretty Woman. Alexander played Richard Gere’s lawyer. If you didn’t get that he’s sleazy by this point in the movie, he famously slaps Julia Roberts. When it came to the Seinfeld audition, Alexander thought he would lose the role of George Costanza to another Pretty Woman star.

Every good fan of "Seinfeld" knows that Jason Alexander's character George is based closely on the show's head writer and co-creator, Larry David. It wasn't until several episodes into the series that Alexander would discover this fact for himself. As it turns out, the actor initially used Woody Allen as a guide for his character. His inspiration may have been a little off, but it still landed him the role and guided him through the beginning of the show.
Before landing his part in the popular sitcom, Alexander had a supporting role in the film "Pretty Woman" starring Julia Roberts. The movie was a huge success that launched both Roberts' and Alexander's careers. The production company behind "Seinfeld," Castle Rock Entertainment, was co-founded and run by the filmmaker Rob Reiner, who directed "The Princess Bride." Reiner's ex-wife was married to the director of "Pretty Woman," Garry Marshall. When...

Emmy award-winning comedy writer Kevin Rooney passed away in his home on July 19th after a long battle with diabetes and end-stage renal failure. He was 71.
Rooney wrote Jay Leno’s first comedy special, Jay Leno and the American Dream. He also worked on Leno’s “What’s my beef?” tirades for Late Night with David Letterman in the ’80s.
“He was the greatest muse a comedian could ever have,” said Leno, who met Rooney at The Improv. “I got so much material just through conversations with Kevin. The first time I saw him, I thought, ‘Oh boy, this guy is really good.’ It’s a real voice. There’s no gimmicks. He didn’t have a catch phrase. There wasn’t a funny look. When times were rough, they throw out the catch phrase or funny look. Kevin didn’t have any of that.”

What makes a story a “classic?” It’s a vague yet glorious distinction applied to books, films, art, and even models of vintage cars whose value is passed down from one generation to the next. But is it just the length of time a text or work survives that qualifies it as a “classic” or is there something more?
Generally speaking, the classics that tend to be celebrated one generation after another, and especially those that are passed down from one century to another, are works that speak of something timeless. The times we live in will change, culture will change, and even our values change. But the experience of living, of loving, of losing (to name just a few such topics)? Those will remain as universal as the human experience is long.
Hence adapting a classic work for a modern audience, whether on film, television, or TikTok, is admirable.

“Corky’S Magic”
By Raymond Benson
If you’ve never seen Waiting for Guffman, you owe it to yourself to grab this wonderful motion picture (now available as a Warner Archive Blu-ray release) or find it streaming somewhere, for it is such a laugh-a-minute extravaganza that truly set in motion the so-called “mockumentaries” made by Christopher Guest and his revolving stock company of comic actors.
It all started, of course, with This is Spinal Tap (1984), in which Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer (among others) presented a pseudo-documentary about a wacky rock band. This picture was directed by Rob Reiner. It was so well done that some people wondered why Reiner had chosen a band “no one had heard of” to make a documentary about. The film skewered the rock world, band politics and antics, and gave us highly quotable lines of dialogue and memorable sequences,...

Genna Batson, who graduated last month from Syracuse University’s Bandier Program with a music business degree, was about as poised for a career in the concert industry as a senior without a nepotistic benefactor could be. She’d focused on the touring business early in her college days, serving as talent buyer and co-director of the school’s concert board, and held internships at industry titans Live Nation, Red Light Management and Superfly, where last summer she interned as a sponsorship coordinator for the Outside Lands festival in San Francisco. She’d secured a contracted position for this summer in the same role, and a permanent job looked promising.
But then came the pandemic, which in a matter of days flattened the entire concert industry — the financial engine of the music business, which touring trade Pollstar had projected would generate $12.2 billion in box office this year. Every major concert...

It's been over 20 years since 10 Things I Hate About You debuted. However, fans still have plenty of love for the '90s flick. Julia Stiles looked back at her role in the classic film during an interview with InStyle published Tuesday. "I am really grateful for that experience, and I don't take it for granted that people still care about a movie that came out 20 years ago," she told the magazine. "I see it as a positive thing." For those who haven't seen the movie, the film is about a new student named Cameron (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who desperately wants to date his fellow classmate Bianca (played by Larisa Oleynik). However, Bianca's father (Larry Miller)...

The man who did what and then what? Robert D. Krzykowski’s first feature isn’t a throwaway joke, but an elegantly crafted and designed fantasy grounded in human values. Sam Elliott’s crusty sixty-something secret agent comes out of retirement to save the world again — will the slaying of another bizarre horror lay to rest disturbing memories of a secret WW2 mission? This thing will be a pleasant discovery for those in pursuit of ‘something completely different.’ The intentionally awkward title is jarring, but it fits because I’ve never seen anything quite like this before.

Hey, NCIS fans. Unfortunately, we have some disappointing news to share with you guys. It turns out that even though CBS' original press release for episode 16 said it would be airing tonight, it is indeed not going to air tonight. We have no idea why. All that we know is that episode 16 is now scheduled to air next Tuesday night, March 12, 2019. So, be sure to mark that very important date down on your tv show calendars. So, what is CBS airing instead of NCIS tonight? Well, according to the TV Guide listings, CBS is actually airing NCIS tonight, but it's just a rerun. It's the episode that originally aired way back on November 13, 2018. It's entitled, "A Thousand Words." CBS' official description for it reads like this, "After a mural by a street artist and activist is stolen, the NCIS investigation leads to a conspiracy regarding a Navy contractor and the safety of ocean mammals.

Rihanna is releasing new music this year — but the album that popped up on iTunes and Apple Music over the weekend is not it. It has never been better to be Sam Elliott than it is now. 2017 brought a wonderful vehicle for the man in The Hero, giving him a lovely showcase. Kudos to filmmaker Brett Haley for doing that, after giving him a plum supporting role in I’ll See You In My Dreams. Obviously, 2018 saw him bring audiences to tears in A Star Is Born, garnering his first ever Academy Award nomination in the process. Now, as the Oscars approach, he starts off 2019 right with a starring role in a project with an amazing title. After all, who wouldn’t want to see something called The Man Who Killed Hitler and then The Bigfoot? Exactly. Opening this Friday, it’s the best release of the year so far. The film is a character study, though one tinged with some interesting action/suspense beats. At first glance, Calvin Barr (Elliott) just appears to be a retired old man.

Last August, a business-school-101 discount technique sparked a fight between rap royalty. With help from a generous assortment of album-merchandise bundles — sell a fan a T-shirt, hat or hoodie, throw in an album download — Travis Scott’s Astroworld beat Nicki Minaj’s Queen to Number One. Minaj wasted little time in condemning the gimmick, even though she used it too: “What we’re not gonna do is have this fucking Auto-Tune man [Scott] come up in here selling fucking sweaters and telling y’all he sold half a million fucking albums,...

"I never wanted that. Even if he had it coming... And he did." Rlje Entertainment has debuted the official trailer for an indie film titled The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot, which is one of the best titles for a film in the last few years. This character study is not so much an action film or a thriller, but more of a look at the life of Calvin Barr, played by Sam Eillott, indeed the man who killed Hitler and then years later killed Bigfoot (to save the world). The film is not what you're expecting, but is actually impressive in quite a few ways - Elliott's performance is outstanding, and the cinematography/look of everything is very cinematic. The small cast of the film includes Aidan Turner, Ron Livingston, Sean Bridgers. Caitlin FitzGerald, Larry Miller, Ellar Coltrane, and Mark Steger as The Bigfoot. Fs is...

Say what you will about Jennifer Lopez, but one thing is true: She takes risks. Never sticking to a particular type, she has run the gamut in her choice of films from romantic comedies to thrillers to biopics and beyond. “Second Act” is her first live-action film since 2015’s “The Boy Next Door,” and it feels like a confused puppy, caught between a stale script and a very confused storyline that frequently loses focus.

Last month, Halsey and Khalid released a new song, “Eastside,” with a silent partner: producer and songwriter Benny Blanco, who’s credited as a third lead artist on the single (and co-stars in its video) even though he doesn’t audibly sing on it. For Blanco, who’s been crafting pop smashes at a steady clip since 2008 for Katy Perry, Ed Sheeran, Britney Spears and more, a hit single is nothing new. The only difference this time is his name in lights up front.

Rarely has the gap between outlandish concept and pedestrian execution been quite so wide as it is with “The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot.” Producer Robert D. Krzykowski’s long-aborning debut feature as writer-director must’ve had a passion project’s motivation behind it to reach realization. Yet it’s difficult from the final result to fathom just what the intended point was.
All its idiosyncrasy expended on that undeniably head-turning title, this low-key, literal-minded indie manages to make those marquee events pretty uninteresting. The rest is a surprisingly rote grumpy-old-coot character study that provides Sam Elliott another opportunity to amble respectably through a portrait of late-life discontent not so different from last year’s tepid “The Hero.”
Whatever expectations of a goofy and/or fantastical good time raised by that memorable moniker will go unfulfilled by a movie whose imagination seemingly ran dry after the title page was written.

I don’t think I’m making any kind of grand revelation here by declaring that Sam Elliott rules. For anyone who has grown up on a steady stream of badassery from the grizzled actor, he’s proved himself time and time again to be one of the greatest and most enigmatic performers to ever grace the silver screen, and The Man Who Killed Hitler and then The Bigfoot is the perfect showcase for Elliott’s immeasurable talents. And while you might be expecting something a little more bombastic based on the immediately unforgettable title of Robert D. Krzykowski’s stunning debut feature, his story is more interested in taking the introspective route, resulting in an endlessly engaging adventure that manages to pull a few heartstrings along the way.
Ultimately, how Krzykowski frames his narrative is reflected directly in the character of Calvin Barr (Elliott), who, as you can imagine,...
