If we wanted to be frank, Gladiator II, when originally confirmed, was among the more unexpected sequels we got. It’s not that we did not want it… but there was a feeling that we did not want it 20+ years later and in a phase when Hollywood was scraping off the success of previous movies and franchises. Sure, the history of Roman gladiators is a rich one, but when Scott’s original film first aired, especially with what happened to the main character, no one really wanted a sequel more than two decades later. But, here we are… we’re back in Ancient Rome, and the movie is, if everything goes according to plan, going to come out on November 22, 2024, and will star Oscar-nominee Paul Mescal as Lucius Verus, a character from the first movie.

Forget all about Anne Hathaway, Jim Sturgess, Rafe Spall and co. That lot are yesterday’s chip paper. The stars of the 2011 One Day film have been superseded by this new bunch, now bringing David Nicholls’ hit 2009 romance novel to life for a new 14-episodes Netflix series. Adapted by Wild Rose and Three Girls screenwriter Nicole Taylor, One Day is a bittersweet love story set across two decades. It’s the story of Emma and Dexter, whose first night together at their university graduation sparks almost two decades of will-they-won’t-they romance.

David Nicholls’ romance One Day has been adapted for the screen for a second time, this time on Netflix: here’s the trailer.
Novelist David Nicholls has had considerable success as a screenwriter, from penning episodes of Cold Feet and BBC dramas The 7:39 and Aftersun to adapting his own novels Starter For Ten and Us.
His most well known novel, One Day, was previously adapted into a 2011 film by Nicholls himself. Directed by Lobe Scherfig, it saw Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess take on the central roles of Emma and Dexter, alongside Patricia Clarkson, Ken Stott and Romola Garai. It received middling reviews which particularly criticized Hathaway’s Yorkshire accent.
A new adaptation is heading to Netflix, this time as a limited series. The synopsis reads as follows:

Brutal British crime drama Gangs of London is back for a second series on Sky Atlantic and Now, with a release date of 20th October in the UK and 17th November in the US, and it’s looking as dark and gritty as ever.
When the explosive first series launched in April 2020, this story of the turbulent power struggles of London’s criminal underworld – centring on the Wallace family and various other international gangs – was an instant hit, at the time becoming Sky Atlantic’s second-biggest original drama launch behind Chernobyl. As dramas go it’s a thrilling powerhouse of a series, full of epic fight scenes and twisty narrative, and certainly isn’t for the faint-hearted gore-wise.
Now it’s back for a second series, fans will certainly be looking forward to seeing their unanswered questions resolved, as well as being introduced to new players in this savage power game.

A British version of “Call My Agent!”?!? Mon Dieu! The critically acclaimed French comedy series, set at a Parisian talent agency, now has had a British remake set at an agency in the heart of London’s Soho. Called “Ten Percent” (an English translation of “Call My Agent!’s” original name “Dix Pour Cent”), the original became a hit for the way it explored the often-fractious relationship between agent and talent, a relationship that can have a skyrocketing ego on one side and expectation management and endless anxiety on the other. It also received acclaim for featuring cameos by celebrities from Isabelle Huppert to Sigourney Weaver, who appeared to relish the opportunity to gently mock themselves. It is a tradition that continues in the British version, with cameos by David and Jessica Oyelowo, Emma Corrin, David Harewood and Helena Bonham Carter.

There are few more enjoyable actors to watch than Bill Nighy. He always just seems to be having a good time, mellow and easy-going. It’s rare that a filmmaker gives him a starring role, but he has close to one here in Sometimes Always Never, a film that’s been on the festival circuit for almost two years. That might suggest a problematic flick, but that’s not the case. Though the movie ultimately falls just shy of being recommendation worthy for me, it’s still a pleasant yet melancholic dramedy, with Nighy at the center. He’s not let loose like he usually is when at his best, like in Richard Curtis penned roles, but this is one of his fuller performances to date. The film is a dramedy, centered on Alan (Nighy), a tailor and expert Scrabble player. For years, Alan has been searching for his missing eldest son Michael,...

Landing last week on Sky and Cinemax, Gangs Of London has been one of the most thrilling and explosive new shows around (check out our review) with a cliffhanger ending that leaves things open for more action.
While Gangs of London series 2 hasn’t been confirmed, there seems to be an appetite for it from show co-creator (along with Matt Flannery) Gareth Evans. Evans told The Metro:
‘There’s room for it. Without giving too much away, we definitely end the season on a note where people will be wanting more and asking what is happening next.
‘I’m treading carefully! It’s sort of a cliff-hanger but as most things it’s a story that takes on a lot of different aspects, there’s a lot of different characters in there, a lot of vested interests, there’s a lot of stray threats trailing in the wind ready to be picked up again.

"There are mysteries unsolved." Fs has an exclusive trailer to share with everyone. Blue Fox Entertainment has unveiled the official Us trailer for a British indie dramedy called Sometimes Always Never, which premiered at the London Film Festival last year. This detective fantasy / family drama is about how a love of words helps a father reconnect with a missing son. Bill Nighy stars with Sam Riley, Alice Lowe, Jenny Agutter, Tim McInnerny, John Westley, Oliver Sindcup, Louis Healy, and Ella-Grace Gregoire. Described as a "story about 'loss and words', the film's strength is the subtle story – a modern retelling of the prodigal son. Through Alan’s determination to find his missing son, he discovers his surviving son – the one that he's been missing for years, despite living 20 minutes away." This film has the quirkiness of Wes Anderson, with the heart of Danny Boyle, and it looks like a great indie discovery from the UK.
