"He's an old man, I'll pay for his ticket!" Parkland Pictures has released the first trailer for The Last Bus, a film from the UK made by Scottish filmmaker Gillies MacKinnon. The film is about an elderly man named Tom whose wife has just passed away, and he decides to use only local buses on a nostalgic trip to carry her ashes all the way across the UK to Land's End, where they originally met, using his free bus pass. This is a story that, obviously, got the attention of everyone he met along the way and has been turned into a film. Timothy Spall stars as Tom, along with Phyllis Logan, Grace Calder, Celyn Jones, Brian Pettifer, Colin McCredie, Iain Robertson, and Marnie Baxter. It looks quite charming and very sweet, even though it's a simple story. Here's the official UK trailer (+ two posters) for Gillies ...

Colin McCredie has replaced Craig Chalmers in an upcoming pantomime production. Former Any Dream Will Do star Chalmers was recently axed from the festive production of Cinderella at the Alhambra Theatre in Dunfermline, Scotland. The singer was fired once it was discovered that he had become a porn star going under the name Ryan Ryder. Taggart actor McCredie will play the role of Dandini, the character originally played by James Mackenzie, who has since replaced Chalmers in the Prince Charming role. McCredie explained that he was at first unaware of the reasons behind Chalmers's exit. "I'm the super-sub they've got in from off the bench," he is quoted as (more)...

Former Taggart star Colin McCredie has hinted that River City fans can expect surprises from his character Nick Morrison. The actor landed the role of Nick last October, ten months after being axed from Taggart following a 15-year stint with the programme. Nick - a politician and friend of the Brodie family - will make his River City debut in tomorrow's episode of the Scottish soap and waste little time before causing waves among the residents of Shieldinch. Speaking to the Daily Record about what is in store, McCredie commented: "The character isn't as clean-cut as he makes out and skeletons start coming out of his closet. It really was 'in at the deep end' (more)...

I thought Law & Order had been on forever, but that’s nothing compared to the UK’s Taggart, which bowed in 1983 (a full six years before L&O). The world’s longest-running police drama releases a third set of eight episodes on September 21, and I have a look at the Acorn Media release for you before it does.
The Show
As a self-professed crime show junkie, I’m almost embarrassed to admit that I haven’t seen Taggart before this. It’s been on since before I was born! The series is set in Glasgow, Scotland, and spotlights a team of four detectives: Detective Chief Inspector Matt Burke (Alex Norton), Detective Inspector Robbie Ross (John Michie), Detective Sergeant Jackie Reid (Blythe Duff), and Detective Constable Stuart Fraser (Colin McCredie).
If you’re wondering how the show gets its title, it takes it from the original protagonist, Detective Chief Inspector Jim Taggart,...

"I've been encouraging our producer to offer him a part as a doctor." David Tennant has, it seems, auditioned for Socttish detective drama Taggart a massive 16 times without landing a part - something that doesn't seem likely to happen again... Apparently the show's star Colin McCredie has been campaigning for Tennant to be cast in the long-running series which first aired in 1983 and has survived the sudden death of the original star Mark McManus. Whatever transpires, it...
