Plot: In season three, a series of explosions rock Kingstown and its citizens, as a new face of the Russian mob sets up shop in the city, and a drug war rages inside and outside prison walls. The pressure is on Mike McLusky (Renner) to end the war but things get complicated when a familiar face from his incarcerated past threatens to undermine the Mayor’s attempts to keep the peace among all factions.
Review: Twelve months after his near-fatal accident, Jeremy Renner began production on the third season of Mayor of Kingstown. Seeing the Avengers star back on his feet and in character as Mike McLusky is an impressive sight as he slips back into his character’s rumpled suit and takes charge of the various factions, criminal and non, in the Michigan city. Renner is a testament to perseverance. As great as it is to see him on screen again,...

Peak TV may have peaked, but there’s still enough overwhelming volume on the small screen that I was able to watch AMC’s Parish while pondering a very niche-y question: Was this the best American cable adaptation of a far more efficient British drama about a guilt-stricken father, played by a star of Breaking Bad, leaving a life of comfortable legitimacy to wallow in a New Orleans criminal underbelly overseen by a member of the cast of Steven Spielberg’s The Post?
For what it’s worth, I think I preferred Showtime’s Your Honor, but I don’t want to make it sound like this new six-part thriller is derivative of only one specific show when it’s actually derivative of an entire fourth or fifth wave of already derivative prestige dramas — in AMC terms, more Low Winter Sun than The Killing, much less Breaking Bad.

The downside to playing a character like Gus Fring, Breaking Bad’s soft-spoken purveyor of fried chicken and crystal meth, is that once audiences have gotten a taste of it, that’s all they want from you. Even when he’s wielding a Darksaber or managing a stable of celebrity superheroes, many of Giancarlo Esposito’s subsequent roles have asked him to stick pretty closely to Fring’s politely psychotic shtick. As such, his grittier, growlier turn as retired wheelman Gracián “Gray” Parish in AMC’s crime drama Parish makes for a nice change of pace.
Gray seems like your average family man. He runs a car company and lives in a nice suburban home with his wife, Ros (Paula Malcomson), and their daughter, Makayla (Arica Himmel). They enjoy a peaceful life for the most part, though a shadow lingers over their home: Gray’s son, Maddox (Caleb Baumann), was...

Giancarlo Esposito is returning to AMC, the home of his Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, in Parish, a thriller set in New Orleans.
Esposito, himself a gearhead, stars as Gracian “Gray” Parish, a family man and proud owner of a luxury car service in The Big Easy.
Speaking at AMC’s TCA press tour, Esposito said New Orleans is a “city of demons”.

“Breaking Bad” star Giancarlo Esposito enters a new criminal underbelly in AMC Networks’ upcoming thriller “Parish.”
In the new trailer for the series, released Tuesday, Esposito stars as Gracian “Gray” Parish, who is forced to return to a dangerous crime syndicate following the brutal murder of his son, which prompts his business to collapse.
“I came back for my family,” Esposito’s Gray says in the trailer. “I would do anything for them.”

Prime Video series “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” has unveiled first look images.
The series is a reimagining of the 2005 film starring Brad Pit and Angelina Jolie as Mr. Smith and Mrs. Smith, respectively. In this iteration, Donald Glover (“The Martian”) stars as John Smith, while Maya Erskine (“PEN15”) stars as Jane Smith.
This new version features John and Jane both landing jobs working for an international spy agency where they must pose as spouses Mr. Smith and Mrs. Smith. As they navigate a new mission each week, they find themselves falling in love with one another, complicating — and compromising — their “strictly business” relationship. Notably, this version features an intentional sham marriage between two strangers, as compared to the 2005 original, in which Mr. Smith and Mrs. Smith were married without being aware of each other’s identity as an assassin.
Glover serves as co-creator and executive producer, along with Francesca Sloane...

"I'm tired of being a passenger in my own life!" AMC has revealed a teaser trailer for a thriller series called Parish, arriving for streaming in 2024. It's a US update on the British mini-series The Driver from 2014, with a similar premise. AMC's quick synopsis only introduces it as: "Quit being a passenger in your own life and take back control." The series actually follows a taxi driver whose life is turned upside down when he agrees to pick-up a Zimbabwean gangster known for exploiting many undocumented immigrants at the U.S. southern ports. Giancarlo Esposito stars in this series as "the driver" who decides to get revenge. The full cast also includes Arica Himmel, Paula Malcomson, Ivan Mbakop, Bonnie Mbuli, Zackary Momo, Dax Rey, and Skeet Ulrich. There's barely 30 seconds in this teaser, but it's enough to get your attention, setting the intense tone with Esposito looking extremely pissed off.

Paramount+’s Lawmen: Bass Reeves episode three picks up the action on May 10, 1875. Bass Reeves (David Oyelowo) has been offered a job as a Deputy US Marshal, and before heading to the Fort Smith Courthouse to speak with Judge Parker about the position, he kisses his beautiful, pregnant wife Jennie (Lauren E. Banks) goodbye.
“Make us proud, you hear?” says Jennie.
Bass engages in a conversation with a young man under arrest as he’s waiting to speak with the judge. The panicking young man asks for Bass’ help, claiming the man he killed was attacking him – but Bass doesn’t respond. Instead, he heads into Judge Parker’s office and learns Parker (Donald Sutherland) was encouraged to hire him because he’s Black. However, that’s not why Parker’s making him a Deputy US Marshal.

"Suits" creator Aaron Korsh pulled from his own life when crafting the show, which enjoyed success during its USA Network first run and has been blitzing Netflix this year.
In an interview with Nerdist back in 2014 (when "Suits" was in season 4), Korsh detailed some of his inspirations. He cited a scene in the pilot, where Pearson Hardman junior partner Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman) fires an associate in front of newly-hired protagonist Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams). It turns out that this "associate" was a) actually a mailroom worker, b) in on the act, and c) not truthfully fired. Louis does this trick to put the fear of God (or at least the Sword of Damocles) in the firm's new employees. Korsh got this character-building moment from a fraternity trick back in his college days at the University of Pennsylvania:

Deadwood Creator David Milch Says It's A Waste Of Time To Feel 'Betrayed' By The Show's Cancellation
Here's a challenge. Read a random "TV shows canceled too soon" listicle floating around the internet. A series that will be on every single one (at least any that was written with a little bit of taste) is "Deadwood," HBO's gone-too-soon western.
The series ran a respectable three seasons (36 episodes) on HBO from 2004 to 2006, but ended inconclusively. The cast and crew also had more to tell. While everyone eventually got the chance to conclude the story with a two-hour wrap-up movie in 2019, "Deadwood: The Movie" was an epilogue, not a full new season of material.
Set in the eponymous South Dakota town during the 1870s, "Deadwood" was Shakespearean — literally, for most of the dialogue was written in iambic pentameter (and bounced from tragedy to farce just like the Bard's work did). The show was fairly faithful (but not bound) to history, with real men as the two leads: lawman Seth...

As the series hits its stride, the primary difference emerging is the presence of a long-arc antagonist, Janis Cavalicci, working at odds with the Ql team. This contrasts with Sam and Al's situation in the original series, where they had only a simple (!) task with no adversaries to speak of.
On Quantum Leap Season 1 Episode 3, Janis not only steals and sets up tech that could interfere directly with the Ql project and Ben's ability to return home, but she also drugs her own mother to get at it after confronting Beth with her lack of faith in Janis's abilities. Are we witnessing a villain origin moment?
Meanwhile, Ben's painful learning curve is both physical and emotional for himself and Addison as memories start to emerge.
It's fascinating to note how many bodies hit the ground in the scope of this adventure.

Well, loyal readers, it’s that time again. December 31st, and you know what that means… it’s Val Kilmer’s birthday!
