There will be spoilers for the third episode of "Star Wars: The Acolyte," so beware.
The road to hell is always paved with the best of intentions, and that's the moral of a lot of fairy tales. It's something George Lucas hammered home pretty directly when he wrote the prequel trilogy, as we watched Anakin Skywalker's slow descent into evil. The overriding desire to do the right thing -- even in the face of great evil -- is ultimately what drove Anakin Skywalker to the Dark side and the downfall of the Jedi order. He wanted the power to influence the midi-chlorians to cheat death and protect those he cared about. Under the manipulative influence of the Sith lord Darth Sidious, Anakin succumbed to his worst impulses for what he thought were the best of reasons.

There will be minor spoilers for "Star Wars: The High Republic - Temptation of the Force" by Tessa Gratton.
"Star Wars: Temptation of the Force" is a story about love. Not specifically romantic love, although it certainly has a strong element of that as well. The latest installment of the third phase of Lucasfilm's "The High Republic" publishing initiative threads themes of all different sorts of love — family, romantic, empathetic, maternal, parental, of country, of power, of control, and more. That's really what it comes down to. Picking up after the events of the "Star Wars: The High Republic - The Eye of Darkness" and "Star Wars: The High Republic - Defy the Storm," we witness a desperate Republic and Jedi Order. The Nihil, a group of marauding pirates, have locked off a huge portion of the galaxy to tyrannically rule on their own. But love persists in the...

To solve a murder, one first has to slay Writer/director Rian Johnson took to social media on June 10 to announce, Aaaaand we’re off! Today is day 1 of shooting on the next Benoit Blanc mystery ‘Wake Up Dead Man’ – see you on the other side. With this message, fans received their first look at Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc in the upcoming Knives Out 3. The new image showcases a significant change: Craig’s character now sports long hair. While the new look is generating buzz, it’s equally thrilling that production for the much-anticipated film has officially begun. Notably,...

Ever since we first learned the title of Rian Johnson's next Knives Out mystery, Wake Up Dead Man, we've had a sneaking suspicion that Benoit Blanc's latest outing might be an altogether much darker affair than his last, 2022's sun soaked murder-mystery Glass Onion. And if our first look at Daniel Craig's southern sleuther in the upcoming threequel is anything to go by, then we may just be right. Taking to Twitter earlier today to commemorate his first day of shooting on the film, writer-director Johnson shared a brooding black-and-white shot of Craig's Blanc suited up, hair down, and holding onto a new hat. Check it out below;
It's certainly not giving Benoit Blanc in his stripy swimming costume living it up on a billionaire's private island now, is it? Sporting long hair, a dapper three-piece suit, and a decidedly forlorn expression, it looks like Blanc means business this third time around.

After a solid several centuries of non-stop detective stories being thrown at the public, you’d somewhat expect the genre to have exhausted itself. But crime mysteries still maintain their status as the go-to option for those willing to enjoy a story and make their brains work at the same time, and there’s no shortage of new original stories that defy the genre’s laws.
Knives Out Refreshed the Detective Genre
To this day, we remember when in 2019, Chris Evans said “knives out” and started kniving out everyone in the room as if it happened yesterday. But in all seriousness, five years ago, the detective genre wasn’t looking too hot — or at least, not nearly as hot as it does now. Then, Rian Johnson released Knives Out, and the tides turned.

“Nothing lasts forever.” There’s something deeply ironic about that line of dialogue being dropped by Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow in only the second Avengers movie from almost 10 years ago. While Johansson’s tenure in the superhero genre is apparently over, with the Oscar-nominated star more recently focusing on films like Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City, the MCU is still going strong with the latest whispers about Avengers 5 getting the rumor mills spinning again. Hence one of the reasons Steve Carell and Illumination Entertainment’s new marketing for Despicable Me 4 is so biting.
Carell—who, by the by, was also in Asteroid City—took time to promote not only Despicable Me 4 in a new viral marketing video, but an entire supposed “Mega Minions” shared universe that will outlive us all and see the 22nd century.

Benoit Blanc returns in his most dangerous case yet. Production has begun in London on Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, the third film featuring the celebrated, Southern-fried detective created by writer/director Rian Johnson and played by Daniel Craig. The new installment is produced by Johnson and producer Ram Bergman’s production company T-Street.
We first met Blanc in 2019’s Knives Out, when he was hired to investigate the death of bestselling author Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer). In that film, Blanc teamed up with nurse Marta Cabrera (Ana de Armas) to uncover the truth in a twisted case filled with angry relatives, red herrings, and fabulous knitwear.
Blanc’s skills were called upon once more in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, when he headed to Greece to peel back the layers of intrigue surrounding tech billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton) and an eclectic group of disruptors.

Daniel Craig's Benoit Blanc is looking dapper as hell in this new look at "Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery," Rian Johnson's latest murder mystery that continues the adventures of the private detective after "Knives Out" and "Glass Onion." The topline instant takeaway is obviously that Blanc has much longer hair than he's had in the previous two films, and that new look could potentially signal a new attitude or maybe even a whole new worldview for this character. Could a shaggier-haired Blanc be a bit more laid back and bohemian this time around? Perhaps he's been hanging out with his pal Derol from "Glass Onion" in between movies and taken some life lessons from the amiable slacker.

It’s day one of filming on Rian Johnson’s next Knives Out mystery, Wake Up Dead Man, and the filmmaker has shared a photo of Daniel Craig to prove it.
Daniel Craig is both a good actor and a good wearer of suits. As a reminder, Rian Johnson has shared a photo from the set of Wake Up Dead Man, showing Craig’s detective Benoit Blanc looking dapper in his latest bit of tailoring.
It also looks as though Johnson’s latest Knives Out murder mystery will see Craig sport a rather different hairstyle: longer, cleanly parted, like a blonde Brett Anderson out of 1990s indie rock outfit, Suede.
The photo commemorates the first day of shooting on Wake Up Dead Man, which now features a huge ensemble cast that would put your typical Marvel film to shame. In here you’ll find (deep breath) Josh O’Connor, Cailee Spaeny,...

When the original Knives Out movie was released by Lionsgate in 2019, the whodunnit starring Daniel Craig as the southern P.E. Benoit Blanc was either doomed to fail or become a smashing success. The latter happened, as the ensemble cast full of big names made Knives Out one of the best films of the year. A sequel, Glass Onion, was released to critical acclaim, although with an obvious change in tone, and we have recently reported that a third movie, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, was in the works, with Daniel Craig reprising his role.

George Lucas is often hailed as the founder of perhaps two of the most treasured franchises – Star Wars and Indiana Jones – in the realm of classics.
But while he may have birthed the globally astronomical Star Wars saga, Steven Spielberg was the one to alter the trajectory of the space opera film series with a single hire, albeit inadvertently so.

The cherry on the top, however, is that the person in question is someone who many fans, if not all, seem to loathe vehemently. Yikes.

The series of murder mysteries that began with the 2019 film Knives Out and continued with the 2022 film Glass Onion is set to keep on going with Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, which has writer/director Rian Johnson back at the helm. Johnson and his collaborators are being very secretive about this project right now, but there’s a lot of hype for it – so we figured this would be a good time to start assembling a list of Everything We Know About Wake Up Dead Man. So it’s only fitting that the third film in the franchise have a song-inspired title as well. But while Radiohead and The Beatles were from England,...

Since Disney revived “Star Wars” in 2015 with J.J. Abrams’ “The Force Awakens,” the strongest entries in the franchise have had one trait in common. Rian Johnson’s “The Last Jedi” and Tony Gilroy’s “Andor” both opted to take the franchise in bold new directions, opening up exciting new possibilities for what a “Star Wars” story could be. “The Last Jedi” steered the core narrative away from the Skywalker family, implying that anyone could become a Jedi and, therefore, a hero. “Andor” used familiar settings as the backdrop for an adult political drama about rebellion and imperial administration, rejecting heroes entirely in favor of the individuals who make up mass movements. Fans may not always have seen them as such — “The Last Jedi” faced an infamous fan backlash, while “Andor” Season 1 paled in viewership to the likes of “The Mandalorian” — but these projects offered a lifeline to a saga...

Keep your big-budget extravaganzas and intellectual properties! These days, Hollywood actors are breathlessly lining up to join the Benoit Blanc Cinematic Universe. Ever since Rian Johnson singled-handedly revived the big screen whodunnit with 2019's "Knives Out," the mid-budget murder-mystery series has become the hottest destination for rising stars, A-listers, and under-sung veterans of the industry to flex their acting muscles as the various colorful characters that occupy this world. Even the property's shift from the theatrical market to the streaming landscape three years later with Netflix's "Glass Onion" wasn't enough to deter folks from flocking to these movies like they're the next "Dune" sequel.
Following the announcement of Johnson's third "Knives Out Mystery" last month (now officially titled "Wake Up Dead Man"), it's become a daily guessing game trying to figure out who will sign on to match wits with Daniel Craig's sharp-witted Southern sleuth Blanc next.

Any dogged detective knows that you need to do your research. Whether it’s poring over dusty files in a basement library or lurking around corners and dropping from eaves to listen in on whispered conversations, investigation is a crucial part of the job. And writer-director Rian Johnson has done his whodunit homework. Johnson gave the classic murder mystery a modern twist with 2019’s Knives Out, and now he’s back on the case with his Oscar-nominated Glass Onion screenplay. This time, world-famous detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) heads to Greece to keep a close eye on a tech billionaire and his eclectic crew of old friends. It’s very much in keeping with genre grande dame Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot novels — the familiarity of which provides the scaffolding to build a whole new story around.
