Lionsgate released the first trailer for Eli Roth's adaptation of Gearbox Software and 2K's Borderlands first-person-shooter video game back in February, and we now have a look at the movie's villains via a new batch of character posters (via GameFragger.com).
The banners spotlight Benjamin Byron Davis as Marcus, Gina Gershon as Moxxi, Janina Gavankar as Commander Knoxx, Olivier Richters as Krom, Edgar Ramirez as Atlas, Bobby Lee as Larry, and The Crimson Lance, who will likley serve as Stormtrooper-like canon fodder.
It seems each poster contains some sort of Easter egg. We couldn't spot anything, but maybe fans of the games will have more luck.
Check out the banners below along with the recent trailer.

With the unofficial beginning of summer — Memorial Day — come and gone, the season has entered full swing. Several of the summer weekends will be crowded at the box office with sometimes three releases competing on similar dates. With action films like Bad Boys: Ride Or Die, A Quiet Place: Day One and Twisters taking us through July, some animated adventures like Inside Out 2 and Despicable Me 4 will provide fun for whole families.
Deadpool 3 will cap off July with a new Marvel installment from Shawn Levy, Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, making way for more sinister films ahead of fall like M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap and Alien: Romulus. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice deserves an honorable mention although it won’t hit theaters until September to lead into spooky season and October.

Almost 20 years later, and Will Smith is still happiest with his performance in “The Pursuit of Happyness.”
The critically acclaimed 2006 film is based on the true story of an unhoused San Francisco-based single father who rises up in the ranks of a tech company, beginning with door-to-door sales. Smith recently said during an episode of First We Feast’s “Hot Ones” series that “The Pursuit of Happyness” is the “best movie” of his career.
“I think the individual best movie, all around, that I’ve ever made is ‘The Pursuit of Happyness,'” Smith said. “Right behind that is the first ‘Men In Black.’ The direction, cinematography, and music…”
Smith later reunited with “The Pursuit of Happyness” director Gabriele Muccino for drama “Seven Pounds.”
The actor, who won the Oscar for “King Richard,” added to “Hot Ones” that he also has some beloved franchise installments.

Sony’s Bad Boys: Ride or Die couldn’t be a more apt title for Will Smith, for whom much is riding on the film doing decent business.
If it works, it could jump-start Smith’s movie career more than two years after he slapped Oscar host Chris Rock on live television, tarnishing a public image he’d spent decades cultivating.
In advance of Bad Boys 4 — in which he plays the sort of fun-loving role people enjoy seeing Smith in — The Hollywood Reporter has learned that his agents at CAA have been calling studio production execs for the first time since the slap. Over the past three or four weeks, they have inquired if studios have projects that are right for Smith, and have even thrown out a suggestion or two, according to multiple sources. The hope is that Smith’s next film can be announced relatively quickly, should Bad Boys 4 work.

Paul Giamatti will star in a TV version of Eli Roth’s grisly Hostel franchise. Both Roth and the films’ original producers will be involved in the new series.
A gold star to anyone who saw this coming.
Paul Giamatti, of Billions and Big Fat Liar fame, as well as his collaborations with Alexander Payne including Sideways and this year’s wonderful drama The Holdovers (pictured), is starring in a television version of Eli Roth’s Hostel, which is not a sentence I expected to type today.
It seems this collaboration has been on the cards for some time. Giamatti told Entertainment Weekly in a 2013 interview that “Eli was shooting Hostel in Prague and I was shooting The Illusionist and I met him. We talked about me actually killing somebody in that movie but it never panned out”.

While Kevin Hart’s action is taking Prime Video’s global top by storm, now dominating in it, the movie is in fact not as good as this hype implies. Die Hart 2: Die Harter is panned for being extremely generic and even a pale copy of all genre’s staples.
Thus, there is a need to satisfy people’s interest in good old action comedy flicks, with 5 of them being enlisted here. They are all must-watches for a good evening chill.
1. Tropic Thunder (2008)
This star-studded hilarious roller coaster of a movie seems to be the main inspiration for Die Hart, but it’s done much better. Ben Stiller’s brilliant film focuses on a group of actors during their attempt to make a Vietnam War film that turns into a failure.

Hostel is in the works for the small screen. Paul Giamatti is attached to star in a television series based on Eli Roth’s horror franchise, from Roth, Chris Briggs, Mike Fleiss, all of whom worked on the films, and Fifth Season, Deadline has confirmed.
The show is currently in development and does not yet have a network or streamer attached, but it’s described as an “elevated thriller with Roth’s trademark kills” and a modern reinvention of the horror franchise.
No details yet, but Giamatti is set to play a key role. Roth will direct and write with Briggs, and Roth, Briggs and Fleiss will executive produce.
The original film franchise, first released in 2006, followed three backpackers headed to a Slovak city that promised to meet their hedonistic expectations, with no idea of the hell that awaited them. The first two films were written and directed by Eli Roth and produced by Roth,...

Paul Giamatti has signed on to star in a television adaptation of Eli Roth’s horror franchise “Hostel.”
The project is in development at Fifth Season, the studio behind “Severance,” and does not yet have a distributor attached. Roth is set to direct and write with original franchise producer Chris Briggs. The two of them will also executive produce alongside “Hostel” alum Mike Fleiss.
“Hostel,” which premiered in theaters in 2005 and spawned two sequels, followed American tourists who are convinced by a stranger to travel from Barcelona to Slovakia, where they are then taken captive by an underground organization that kidnaps people for rich clients to torture and kill.
The series is envisioned as a “modern adaptation” and “reinvention” of the low-budget horror franchise, the first installment of which collected $82 million atop a $4.8 million budget. The less lucrative sequel, 2007’s “Hostel: Part II,” still raked in more than $35 million against a $10.2 million budget.

Back in 1988, the world saw the success of an action flick following a one-man war against a gang of ruthless thieves. The first Die Hard movie made Bruce Willis one of the most demanded genre’s actors and started the successful movie franchise.
Die Hard’s legacy lives on to this day too, as there are many attempts to ride the same hype train or to mock the genre’s classic tropes. These include quite a controversial action flick that is now reigning supreme in Prime Video’s global top.
Its plot revolves around an actor who faces a career crisis and sees a way out in his idea to make a brand new action movie that can rekindle people’s interest in him. However, you can already guess that everything doesn’t go according to his plans.

Exclusive: Pierson Fodé (The Man from Toronto) has been tapped for a role in the upcoming film inspired by the story of Bumble founder Whitney Wolfe Herd, from 20th Century Studios and Ethea Entertainment, Deadline has learned.
Like Jackson White, Fode will play a love interest of Herd’s. Others cast thus far include Myha’la and Dan Stevens.
Plot details for the film remain vague, as it’s said to be somewhat loosely inspired by Herd’s story. Famously launching the online dating platform Bumble after co-founding and departing Tinder, Herd became one of the youngest self-made billionaires at age 31, when Bumble went public in 2021. While she stepped down as CEO last year, the app continues to be hugely popular amongst the single crowd.
Still untitled, the film on Herd’s story is scheduled to enter production this year. Rachel Lee Goldenberg will direct from her script written with Bill Parker and Kim Caramele,...

Expecting the unexpected’s been an integral part of players’ experience in every Borderlands game. Even though the series is known for its art style and humor, fans understand that these games don’t shy away from delivering some shocking moments.
Spoiler alert, but the most striking example of this comes from Roland’s death in Borderlands 2, a moment that saddened many of the first game’s fans. However, you may be surprised to know that the title was foreshadowing this from the moment we reunite with him in the game.

"I think stand-up seems wrought with so much insecurity." Hartbeat has revealed the first official trailer for a documentary titled Group Therapy, a film about comedians and mental health. This is premiering in a few weeks at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival, hence the trailer showing up now before its debut. Kevin Hart's Hartbeat is a global media company creating entertainment at the intersection of comedy & culture. Hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, Group Therapy is a witty exploration of mental health challenges through relatable conversations, striking a balance between depth and levity. "Sharing is therapeutic." Anchored by Harris as a moderator, Group Therapy features humorous conversations with Mike Birbiglia, Nicole Byer, Gary Gulman, London Hughes, Tig Notaro, and Atsuko Okatsuka. Berkeley implements a clever framing of this ensemble narrative as we listen in on the comedians bravely revealing the connections between their professional comedy journeys and mental health struggles. Shannon Sharpe arrives promptly at noon at the South Beverly Grill, a short drive from his home in Holmby Hills. He is 6-foot-2 and 230 pounds, a wall of muscle sheathed in black athleisure wear. He slides into his favorite booth, orders a cranberry ginger ale and offers a hello — friendly but guarded — to an awaiting journalist.
It’s usually Sharpe asking the questions — whether on his blockbuster podcasts Club Shay Shay (3.17 million YouTube subscribers) and Nightcap (1.26 million subscribers) or on ESPN’s First Take, where through the NFL season he spars good-naturedly with host Stephen A. Smith.
Sharpe, who turns 56 on June 26, shot to fame as a tight end for the Denver Broncos. He’s an NFL Hall of Famer and three-time Super Bowl champ. But his other calling, it turns out, is talking — about sports, yes, but about many other things, too, from social issues to politics to celebrity gossip.

The timing coincides with World Mental Health Day and the organization’s World Mental Health Day Festival.
The honor comes after Ratner has made a name for himself as a music video director turned documentary storyteller and entrepreneur working with some of the world’s most famous pop stars like Justin Bieber and Demi Lovato. His credits, some of which destigmatize the mental health conversation, include the Kid Laroi’s Kids Are Growing Up: A Story About a Kid Named Laroi, Demi Lovato: Dancing With the Devil and Justin Bieber: Seasons. Last year, Jennifer Lopez starred in so-so Netflix actioner "The Mother," in which she sniped her way through wave after wave of bad guys. Unfortunately the film marked yet another moment whereby the streaming age subsumed a former megastar into its nebulous cloud of generic "content." If "The Mother" isn't enough to convince you of such developments, just take a look at "Atlas," the latest Lopez-starring Netflix original film.
It should be said that the trailer for "Atlas" did look promising, but critics certainly aren't too impressed with this sci-fi actioner, which comes from director Brad Peyton ("San Andreas") and also stars Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, and Mark Strong. Lopez plays an AI-wary data analyst who quickly finds herself in a situation where she's forced to rely on a synthetic consciousness to survive a mission gone awry. Many people have dreams of being an actor, sometimes in film and sometimes in television roles.
Some actors fall into the opportunity through lots of auditions, training, and from knowing the right people. But others get their start by becoming a famous name first.
Athletes are often in the public eye, gaining a following for being good at their chosen sport. Once they retire from their profession, some continue to grow their popularity through other ventures.

Will Smith and Chris Rock’s infamous Oscar slap in 2022 was one of Hollywood’s most shocking incidents on a public stage. Smith got a lot of flak for assaulting Rock in front of everyone, and he was banned from the Oscars for 10 years. Since then, people have mocked and made fun of the incident online.

Months later, Kevin Hart and Rock toured together on their joint stand-up special Rock Hart: Only Headliners Allowed. Hart is a big fan of his co-partner on the tour and considers him one of the GOATs in the business. To show his love for Rock, Hart sneaked in a real goat at Madison Square Garden and ironically named him after Smith, much to the audience’s amusement.

Kai Cenat is on a roll. After completing a marathon playthrough of the notoriously difficult video game Elden Ring, Cenat kept his hot streak going when he drew 400,000 viewers for a collab with actor and comedian Kevin Hart.
Hart teased his appearance on Cenat’s stream one month before the broadcast’s go-live date. He promised “big things” for the collab, and he did not disappoint Cenat’s 10.7 million Twitch followers. During a broadcast that lasted nearly four hours, Hart and Cenat presented comedic “gifts” and matched each other’s high-key energy. The affinity between the two entertainers comes as no surprise; Cenat, who has serious Hollywood ambitions, has been described as a Kevin Hart for the internet age.
Hart is not the first celebrity to appear alongside Cenat on his popular Twitch channel, and the streaming star is making sure to provide plenty more entertaining broadcasts for his ever-growing audience.

When was the last time a joke had you gasping for air, laughter spilling uncontrollably? In an absolutely cheeky banter, Kai Cenat just gifted Kevin Hart a stepping stool on his livestream (via Instagram)—a gesture that’s sparking conversations louder than a thunderclap in a silent valley.
The jest, which we could actually brand as Cenat’s brutal joke with Hart, has the internet buzzing, hitting harder than Dwayne Johnson’s witty one-liners. As someone who has tracked the pulse of comedy streams, we can affirm that the blend of audacity and humor in Cenat’s prank mirrors what we’ve seen in past collaborations among celebrities.

It's odd to think of stars like Audrey Hepburn within a modern context. The Egot winner seems to belong so perfectly to a bygone era of Hollywood — one characterized by a kind of romanticism and graceful dignity that just doesn't map on to the age of streaming and ubiquitous "content." Of course, in reality the Hollywood of the mid-20th century was often anything but a halcyon dream, with the star system still very much in operation, shackling actors to their respective studios to be traded off and sold like commodities. Still, it's just plain weird to think about these titans of Hollywood in the context of, for instance, Rotten Tomatoes — the great arbiter of our contemporary collective taste in cinema.
Imagine, if you will, the career of this Unicef Goodwill Ambassador, fashion icon, and legendary starlet summed up in a list of cartoon splats and tomatoes. It doesn't feel quite right does it?...

Before Goldfish revealed herself, the Gumball had to take it off and turned out to be award-winning actor Scott Porter.
When Nick asked Scott, “Who knew you could do what you do?” the actor replied, “Not even me until maybe tonight. I don’t have any legitimate training. I started singing on street corners in Orlando, Florida when I was going to high school. I auditioned for two straight years for Disney and couldn’t book a role. [This story contains spoilers from the Abbott Elementary season three finale, “Party.”]
If there’s one issue viewers have had with the beloved ABC sitcom Abbott Elementary over its three seasons, it’s that Janine (Quinta Brunson) and Gregory (Tyler James Williams) have yet to take their working relationship to the next level, as fans have been shipping the pair since its season one debut.
After a painstaking episode 13, “Smith Playground,” in which Janine and Gregory’s plans to tell each other how they feel are thwarted by fellow teacher, Mr. Morton’s bitter warning to “never date someone you work with,” audiences began to lose hope. But in the final minutes of the season three finale episode, “Party,” which aired Wednesday night, the two share a passionate kiss at Janine’s end of the school year bash, putting an end to the tortuous will-they-won’t they dynamic between the teachers.

Spoiler Alert: Details follow for Season 11, Episode 13 of “The Masked Singer,” “Finale: One Mask Takes It All,” which aired May 22 on Fox.
“The Masked Singer” winner Vanessa Hudgens admits she didn’t necessarily play the hiding game: At least among her friends and fans, they figured out it was her under the Goldfish costume rather quickly.
“Rita [Ora] guessed it was me straight from the jump,” Hudgens said. “But she’s also my friend. And we saw each other a few days before the first episode!”
Hudgens beat out Scott Porter, who had performed this season as Gumball, to win the “Masked Singer” trophy. Coincidentally, both Hudgens and Porter previously starred together in 2009’s “Bandslam.”
Despite their history, Hudgens said the production kept her completely in the dark as to who her competitors were. “I was so invested every step of the way,” she said. “I was trying really hard to...

When you’re an independent filmmaker, there are a few different ways of working within the TV/streaming space. You could be a TV repairman (of any gender!) or work for the cable company. Those are pretty good. But! If you’re reading this blog, chances are your ambitions run a little more toward creating the content actually populating these devices and platforms. In that case, you could A) create a brand-new series and become its ruthless, dictatorial showrunner, or B) step into an already-existing series as the director of an individual episode.
For the former, there’s always our Episodic Lab. But for the latter, there’s the Film Independent Episodic Directing Intensive–where in just three whirlwind days, a diverse cross-section of veteran directors, showrunners, actors, executives and cinematographers provide a heavy-duty brain dump to six up-and-coming filmmakers, sharing their experiences and knowledge of the episodic directing landscape.

Recently, Netflix released The Roast Of Tom Brady. While it was aired as a live stream, there have been edits since the original availability for viewers. One of the big edits was a booing session for the great Kim Kardashian. Although it took time away from the crude roast, it was clipped from the current version on the streaming service. Although everyone is aware there is an ongoing feud between Kim and Taylor Swift, some speculate the Swifties had a hand in the ousting. However, one of the feature roasters, Nikki Glaser, has the tea about whether it was a hijack by Swifties.

Veteran producer Simon Kinberg, who oversaw most of the “X-Men” movies for 20th Century Fox, is in talks to produce an upcoming “Star Trek” movie for Paramount Pictures, Variety has confirmed.
The project has already been in development at the studio for some time, with Seth Grahame-Smith (“Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”) handing the screenplay and Toby Haynes on board to direct. Insiders say the film is intended as an origin story for the main timeline of the “Star Trek” franchise, set in the aftermath of humanity’s first contact with aliens.
Kinberg started his career as a screenwriter, penning 2005’s “XXX: State of the Union” and “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” before joining the “X-Men” franchise as a co-screenwriter of 2006’s “X-Men: The Last Stand.” He transitioned to producing every subsequent “X-Men” film, and he made his directorial debut with the final movie in the franchise, 2019’s “Dark Phoenix.” He...

As Paul Scheer writes in his new book, he learned at an early age to be careful who he told about what he wanted to be when he grew up. Whenever he proudly pronounced that it was his dream to appear on Saturday Night Live, he would be met with disbelief or (worse) condescension — he quickly realized it was better to keep his acting aspirations quiet. Of course, like so many of Hollywood’s comedy greats, he found himself at NYU, unable to resist the pull of individuality and creative expression that ran rampant throughout the Village. He eventually found improv, first performing as part of the group Chicago City Limits and later joining the Upright Citizens Brigade. Here, in this exclusive excerpt from Joyful Recollections of Trauma, he shares a particularly memorable moment from his time with the group — being (briefly) discovered by Lorne Michaels.

Nikki Glaser ripped on Ben Affleck for bombing at Netflix’s Tom Brady roast, telling Barstool Sports’ “KFC Radio” podcast that it was abundantly clear the Oscar winner came unprepared to the live taping. Affleck was one of the event’s surprise roasters.

As buyers touch down at Lax for the annual LA Screenings, it will be a case of a return to the norm following the unusual circumstances of last year. The Hollywood labor strikes not only threw confusion on what would be a realistic purchase, but also stopped acquisitions executives getting face time (and a quick selfie) with acting and writing talent — something many value as part of their buying process.
There will be no such issues this year, and the studio sales bosses are relishing a return to the norm. “We’re really excited, it feels like we’re really back after the strikes and firing on all cylinders,” says David Decker, President of Content Sales for Warner Bros. Discovery (Wbd). “We have an abundance of titles that run the gamut of broadcast and streaming in drama and comedy. We’ll be showing the best of what Wbd stands for.

When movie fans think of action stars, names like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Donnie Yen, Bruce Willis, and Jason Statham come to mind. However, Prime Video and Kevin Hart are adding another killing machine to the ranks. No, seriously, the new action daredevil is Kevin Hart. What? I’m not joking. Did you watch the Die Hart 2: Die Harter trailer above? You did? Well, then, I don’t know what to tell you. Stranger things have happened.
Exploding onto Prime Video on May 30, Die Hart 2: Die Harter stars Kevin Hart as an idealized and action-ready version of himself. In the Die Hart 2: Die Harter trailer, Hart stages a restaurant terror attack to help pitch his new film. When the studio rep, Jordan (Nathalie Emmanuel), discovers the actor’s ruse, she blacklists Hart from her banner and threatens to ruin his name throughout the industry. Not to be deterred,...

Eli Roth’s Borderlands will finally hit theaters this August, almost nine years after its announcement. The film, based on the critically acclaimed video game franchise of the same name, underwent several script changes and production delays. The Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart starrer’s trailer was a mixed bag.
Moreover, fans of the game franchise are skeptical of the big screen medium as it may not have the time to establish different storylines starting from the 2009 game.

A popular suggestion among the video game fanbase was to make Borderlands into an animated series. This animated version would be a much better way to bring the world-building, numerous characters, and their complex interconnected storylines onto the screen.

When Quinta Brunson first introduced second grade teacher Janine Teagues in season one of Abbott Elementary, she purposely had the character dress in awkward clothing, from frumpy sweaters paired with chunky belts to long maxi skirts with sneakers. She barely wore makeup and didn’t pay much attention to her hair.
But in season three, as Teagues takes a break from teaching to work at the Philadelphia school district, viewers see her forge ahead: She’s in tailored suits, fitted blazers and heels. She’s stepped up her makeup game and her curls are defined. And the middle part in her hair drives the point home: This is her glow up.
It’s something Brunson has been planning from day one.
“I always wanted this evolution for Janine,” she tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I always joke that [Janine] watched some YouTube videos over the summer. She learned a quick makeup tutorial.
