Mea Makamae: precious object, treasure.
On Hawaii Five-0 this week, the team must uncover what "Mea Makamae" a salvage diver was going after that got him killed.
The episode offered an impressive list of guest starts, most notably Patty Duke and Peter Fonda. The former was great in her portrayal of Sylvia Spencer, and although the latter didn't receive a great deal of screen time, he still made an impression as Jesse Billings.
I did have one main problem with the Princesa treasure story. That being when Dr. Asano (Autumn Reeser) stated that the Princesa was a Spanish trade ship that had ducked into Hawaii to make repairs and sank there. I'm pretty sure a Spanish trade ship carrying thousands of gold pieces wouldn't have been anywhere in Pacific Ocean, much less close enough to Hawaii during a gun battle that it made a reasonable safe harbor.
As a Spanish trade ship in the 1700s,...

Major Rebecca Gordon was hit with some hard lessons on this week's Combat Hospital and I was thrilled to see it.
Overall, "It's My Party" gave me what I'd been waiting for from this show: drama. It finally made me feel something.
I had to agree with Rebecca. Yes, discharging her firearm in the shower wasn't the smartest idea, but that spider was monstrous. In her shoes, I would have shot it too.
Of course, her comrades made fun of her. If they didn't, she wouldn't be part of the team. Unfortunately, it was hard to tell if Rebecca really understood that.
Who would guess that her day would get so much worse? I saw her horror at being told to stop the surgery before she had tried everything possible, but she came across as rather naive when she simply saw Marks as the enemy.
I suppose she needed somewhere to direct her anger,...

Canada has a new millionaire TV series in terms of ratings.
The Canadian medical drama Combat Hospital debuted yesterday in Canada on Global, a TV network, with over 2 million viewers. This is the second highest-rated premiere behind Rookie Blue, another original drama from Global.
Besides, Combat Hospital was the most watched show last night in Canada. We remind you that Rookie Blue will premiere tomorrow at 10 Pm on Global.
The drama Combat Hospital follows Major Rebecca Gordon (Michelle Borth), a doctor of the Canadian army. In the first episode, Rebecca arrives in Kandahar, in war-torn Afghanistan.
The show stars Teddy Chen, Elias Koteas, Luke Mably, Arnold Pinnock and Deborah Kara Unger.
Let's see if Major Gordon's adventures will sustain the same ratings. As for the USA, Combat Hospital premiered with 5.2 M viewers on ABC, an American TV network.

The Series Premiere of 'Combat Hospital' (Tue., 10Pm Et on ABC) dropped Major Rebecca Gordon into war-torn Afghanistan in 2006. Wartime medical dramas are nothing new, and in fact have given television some of its best television series. But we're not ready to say 'Combat Hospital' is ready to join their ranks.
It does, however, feature a likable cast and lead in Gordon (Michelle Borth). A little out of her depth in Afghanistan, we thought the snake scene in the O.R. did a great job of spotlighting just how out of her element she was.
"I was the youngest chief surgical resident in Miami General's history," she was telling her superior officer during surgery when he stopped everyone in the room cold.

There's always been something about war shows that I've been drawn to. As a kid, I couldn't get enough of M*A*S*H. Much later, I adored China Beach, so it's no surprise that I was quick to watch ABC's new summer drama, Combat Hospital.
The "series premiere" is set in a military hospital outside of Kandahar, Afghanistan in 2006 and follows doctors and nurses from several Allied, English speaking countries.
We follow Canadian surgeon Major Rebecca Gordon as she arrives via military transport. You'd think that landing in the middle of a war zone would be the focus of her attention. Instead, she's trying to take a pregnancy test while they land.
I'm sure it's a hell of a long flight. Does she really have to wait for them to be doing evasive maneuvers while they land to perform that test?
That first scene tells me not to take Combat Hospital too seriously,...

Chicago – Is there a script doctor in the house? ABC is in dire need of one. How could the network possibly greenlight “Combat Hospital” in light of its recently botched, strikingly similar effort, “Off the Map”? Both shows fail to mine the potential drama in their inherently dramatic premises. Medical clinics in the South American jungle or an Afghanistan war zone should have no time or patience for melodramatic soap opera.
That being said, “Hospital” is a slight improvement over “Map,” despite its generic title and lack of colorful locales. Set in a Nato Role 3 Multinational Medical Unit at Kandahar Airfield (reportedly modeled after a real-life clinic), the show has genuine potential to explore an assortment of intriguing conflicts. The premiere episode, “Welcome to Kandahar,” only hints at the possible directions that the program could take in order to prevent itself from becoming a standard medical drama destined for cancellation.

A week shy of its premiere, new drama series "Combat Hospital" is previewed in a trailer. It follows Major Rebecca Gordon and Captain Bobby Trang who have just arrived in a war zone of Southern Afghanistan.
Portrayed by Michelle Borth, Rebecca is a top-of-her-class trauma surgeon who is eager to impress, before finally realizing that there are a lot of things in the field which are not mentioned in the manual. Bobby, played by Terry Chen, is thrown into the deep end as a Trauma Team Leader upon his arrival to the unit.
Helming the hospital on behalf of the Canadian Forces is Elias Koteas' Colonel Xavier Marks. Brilliant British neurosurgeon Dr. Simon Hill (Luke Mably) is the only non-military medical staffer in the hospital, while Commander Will Royal (Arnold Pinnock) is Chief of Nursing.
Overseeing the mental well being of the troops on their tour of duty is...

ABC has announced the original programming it will be featuring during the summer of 2011. If you're a fan of reality TV, you're in luck, because the alphabet has new episodes of Wipeout, Bachelor Pad, and The Bachelorette coming down the pipeline, as well as a new show about karaoke, two Amazing Race-ish challenge shows, a new Extreme Makeover spinoff, and a game show built around people exiting a game show. Joining the mostly unscripted line-up, which can be found on Tuesdays and Thursdays, will be the second season of Rookie Blue and military hospital drama The Hot Zone.
There is no word yet on what reruns ABC will be airing or what canceled shows they'll be burning off, but until then, you can check out the press release below that gives detailed descriptions of each show as well as premiere dates/times.
