Thirty years after the original Nightwatch and twenty-seven years after the American remake, writer/director Ole Bornedal returns, rather literally, to the scene of the crime with Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever, a standalone sequel to the original Danish film.
Martin survived the events of the first film and the suicide of his wife Kalinka. It’s taken its toll though, he’s dependent on prescription drugs to get through the day, and he’s even less likeable than he was back then. He also has a daughter, Emma, played by the director’s daughter Fanny Leander Bornedal who is in med school.
Early in the film, needing money, she takes her father’s old job, night watchman, or ward clerk as it’s called now, at the morgue. As...

Thirty years after introducing viewers to a sadistic serial killer in the Danish horror film Nightwatch (aka Nattevagten), writer/director Ole Bornedal has returned to the world of his harrowing film with the sequel Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever. Easily one of my favorite films of the year thus far, Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever is a relentlessly tense examination of the damaging effects of unresolved trauma on families, the painful healing of the grieving process, and how the past can literally come back to haunt you... with something sharp in its hands.
Featuring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Kim Bodnia, and Ulf Pilgaard reprising their roles from the original Nightwatch alongside a talented roster of actors who are new to this franchise, Demons Are Forever is now streaming on Shudder, and Daily Dead caught up with writer/director Ole Bornedal to discuss continuing the story of Nightwatch 30 years later, exploring the aftereffects of violent trauma through his film's characters,...

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, the Game of Thrones superstar, didn’t start his career casually, huh? Ole Bornedal’s psychological thriller Nightwatch just got a sequel, and what better time to revisit the 1994 classic? The plot of Nightwatch is seamless, and the thrill it has managed to retain even after all these years since its release is something else. Better not lurk around in the morgue if you want to have a good career in academics, I guess.
Spoilers Ahead
What happens in the movie?
Martin, a law student in Copenhagen, gets a job in a creepy mortuary (all of them are creepy; don’t fight me on this). His life isn’t that bad, as his girlfriend Kalinka and he have a pretty healthy relationship going on. Martin gets a tour of the morgue and starts the job, thinking he wouldn’t have much to do except sit the night away.

Plot: Thirty years after the events of the 1994 serial killer thriller Nightwatch, the daughter of two of the deeply damaged surviving characters takes her dad’s old job as night watchman at the Department of Forensic Medicine. Investigating the events that ruined her parents’ lives, she accidentally kicks off a new killing spree.
Review: Back in 1994, Danish filmmaker Ole Bornedal brought the world a serial killer thriller called Nightwatch, about a young law student named Martin (played by future Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) who takes a job as night watchman at the Department of Forensic Medicine in Copenhagen and inadvertently gets mixed up in the investigation of the serial killer case that has been providing the morgue with a lot of fresh corpses. By the end of the film, Martin, his girlfriend Kalinka, and his best friend Jens have all had close calls with the killer, who is...

Mainstream Hollywood cinema has been stuck in a bit of a rut recently when it comes to sequels. Characters fall in love in the first film, marry in the second, have children in the third – a pattern which, whilst it may be relatable for many, has the effect of making those characters seem smaller, less satisfying to watch, playing out the same rather limited set of options as the average person, heading for old age where once they might have ridden off into the sunset and left us to imagine something better. Meanwhile, in horror, it gets a little more complicated. Though Halloween’s Laurie may find herself taking on the same fight over and over again, other characters, like those in Slumber Party Massacre and My Bloody Valentine 3D, see the next generation confronted by horrors they barely survived.

Exclusive: Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins (Freud’s Last Session) has signed on to star in Bruno Penguin and the Staten Island Princess, the latest film from director Nick Cassavetes. Billed as the first-ever major Hollywood production to shoot in Antarctica, the film also has Shia Labeouf (Padre Pio) in talks to star and will enter production in November.
Scripted by Daniel Barnz and Ned Zeman, Bruno Penguin is based on a Vanity Fair article from the latter which tells the true story of adventurous Swiss photographer Bruno Zehnder, a superb artist who spent the last 20 years of his life in Antarctica photographing Emperor penguins. He was obsessed by them – their kindness, the way they lived, their deep levels of affection for one another. Bruno spent his life trying to learn how to communicate with them and over time, the colonies grew to know him and return his fondness.

Ole Bornedal follows up his 90s suspense thriller Nightwatch and goes back to the same creepy building
Thirty years ago, just before the Dogme 95 movement raised the profile of Danish film-making, Ole Bornedal’s suspense thriller Nightwatch was what success for the country’s cinema looked like. Basically a modest but moderately clever genre exercise, it starred a young chiselled-cheeked Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, later cast as Jaime Lannister in Game of Thrones, as a student called Martin who gets a job as a nightwatchman at a municipal building that contains a morgue. Partly because of a dare by his reckless buddy Jens, Martin ends up becoming a suspect in that most 1990s of cinematic plot devices, a string of murders of sex workers by a serial killer. The last act is all Wtf-twists, blue-hued lighting and stabby strings on the soundtrack, but the cast, which also includes the always-great Sofie Grabol as Martin’s girlfriend Kalinka,...

George R. R. Martin’s incredible vision and spectacular scale in Game of Thrones was one that was coveted by many but treasured by few. Those few were allowed to extend their arms in order to reach for their dreams after HBO offered them immortality through an opportunity to star in the series. But it was one among the select few who was born with the greatest luck of them all.

Streaming on Shudder May 17th is Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever, the chilling sequel to the Danish cult-classic Nightwatch (1994), which inspired the 1997 U.S. remake starring Ewan McGregor.
22-year-old medical student Emma (Fanny Leander Bornedal) has just taken a job as the night watch in the same forensic department where her parents were once almost killed by the famed psychopathic police inspector Wörmer. Determined to investigate what exactly happened to them, Emma tracks down and confronts Wörmer, only to unintentionally reawaken his bloodthirst and ignite a violent revenge on everyone who sealed his destiny years ago.

"Isn't that Wörmer's signature?" Shudder has revealed the official US trailer for the Danish horror mystery sequel Nightwatch 2, known as Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever, from the same Danish filmmaker Ole Bornedal. Not to be confused with the two Russian movies Night Watch and Day Watch, this is not related - it's a new sequel to Bornedal's 1994 movie Nightwatch, which was remade into Nightwatch in 1997 with Ewan McGregor. The original also starred Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who has become considerably more famous after "Game of Thrones". In this sequel, Martin's daughter, Emma, takes up a night watch job to find out what happened to her parents almost thirty years ago. A meeting with Wörmer in his cell pulls the serial killer out of his coma and sets in motion a chain of fateful events. Starring Fanny Leander Bornedal, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Kim Bodnia, Sonja Richter, Ulf Pilgaard, Casper Kjær Jensen, Paprika Steen, and Nina Rask.

“The Curse” has become one of the most talked-about shows this year with its idiosyncratic mix of cringe comedy, weird horror, marital drama, and sentiment proving to be a recipe for brilliance. The acclaimed Showtime drama series follows Nathan Fielder and Oscar winner Emma Stone as a newly married couple who host an HGTV show. They try to conceive a child as they navigate the effects of a curse.
Fielder and Stone’s performances propel the show to greatness and they are ably supported by Benny Safdie, who co-created the show with Fielder. He plays a desperate producer and while the role is scenery-chewing enough, it’s also a great role for filmmaker Safdie to once again show his acting chops, as noted by critics.
Nick Schager (The Daily Beast) proclaimed: “Safdie makes him a behind-the-scenes sorta-psycho who’s as compelling as his on-air compatriots, inhabiting Dougie with a brand...

Alfred Herrhausen, born in 1930, was the chairman of Deutsche Bank. But to the team behind German series “Herrhausen – The Banker and the Bomb,” premiering at Series Mania, he was a “visionary.”
“He was a humane banker, always looking into the future. What you see in this show is a person who tries to do something new and others prevent him from doing it. They say: ‘We have never done it before.’ He says: ‘Well, that’s the definition of the word ‘new,’” says actor Oliver Masucci.
The show, written by Thomas Wendrich, premieres the trailer in exclusivity with Variety.
Before taking on Herrhausen, Masucci gained prominence thanks to Netflix’s “Dark.” Next, he will be seen in the BBC and CBS Studios show “King and Conqueror” alongside Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as William the Conqueror.
“When we think of bankers now, we think of absolute capitalists. But he kept saying we needed to shift our perspective.

World-renowned director Steven Spielberg was at the height of his career when he made the Oscar-winning film "Schindler's List," but he wasn't the only filmmaker who was interested in adapting the novel of the same name for the silver screen. The acclaimed director Billy Wilder, an auteur of classic Hollywood cinema who penned and directed such renowned films as "The Apartment" and "Sunset Boulevard," was also vying for the rights to turn this story into a movie. However, by the time Thomas Keneally's evocative historical novel was published in 1993, Wilder's career was already winding down.
For a long time, Wilder enjoyed one of the most prosperous careers in Hollywood. His Oscar-nominated 1944 film "Double Indemnity" is considered the signal film of noir cinema and the model of the femme fatale trope. After Wilder's smashing success "Sunset Boulevard" earned three Oscars in 1951, he quickly went on to release several star vehicles...

Game of Thrones Season 8 ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Game of Thrones had everyone’s attention when it used to stream. The fantasy period drama was full of twists and turns that would startle you in every episode. The series stars Emilia Clarke, Sophie Turner, Kit Harington, Lena Headey, Maisie Williams, Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and others based on George Rr Martin’s book, A Song of Fire and Ice.
The eighth season left everyone disappointed. The loyal fans were displeased with the conclusions given to Daenerys, Jon Snow, Arya and Bran Stark. The show’s creators, David Benioff & D.B. Weiss, have opened up on what exactly went wrong.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Benioff stated that when one signs a five-year deal with a company, one wants the company to be stable. It will help one be alone and do their work without worrying about it being bought by a phone company.

Most Game of Thrones fans can think of a few things they’d change about the acclaimed HBO series (likely related to the final season), and even showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have one thing they wish they’d done differently… and it’s not at all what you’d expect.
David Benioff and Dan Weiss have largely avoided reflecting on Game of Thrones but when THR asked them if there was anything they would want to change about the series… they had an answer. The element they’d change had to do with Mord the Jailer (Ciaran Bermingham), the guard who tormented Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) in the Sky Cells at the Eyrie before accepting a bribe to help him escape. Turns out that the pair wish they’d brought Mord back into the story.

Star Cast: Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Annabelle Wallis, Zahn McClarnon, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Zahn McClarnon, Melanie Scrofano
Director: Robin Pront
Producer: Cybill Lui Eppich
Writer: Micah Ranum
The Silencing Movie Review Out! (Picture Credit: IMDb)
What’s Good: Pront skillfully blends familiar tropes into a satisfying mystery horror-thriller. The film captures the wilderness through Manuel Dacosse’s cinematography, enhanced by Brooke and Will Blair’s ominous score. Coster-Waldau’s portrayal adds depth, creating a foreboding atmosphere.
What’s Bad: While the film touches on social issues, particularly in northern Minnesota, it may come off as somewhat tokenistic. Despite this, the compelling tone and eerie presence of a masked figure in mist-shrouded forests contribute to the film’s overall appeal.
Loo Break: A suitable “Loo break” in the middle of this intense narrative could be after Rayburn rescues Molly from the sanctuary and keeps her safe overnight in an unused spike trap.
