Part-Time Wife (1930)A “dame” is another word for a woman, but not all women are dames. Embodying both the vibrancy of the Jazz Age and the cynicism of the Great Depression, dames are fast-talking, sassy, and with a hard shell to match. Dames populate the world of early-1930s Hollywood cinema, personifying the socio-economic politics and (relative) gender progressivism of the decade. An upcoming MoMA film program entitled “Dames, Janes, Dolls, and Canaries: Woman Stars of the Pre-Code Era” explores the idea of the pre-Code Hollywood dame in all of her multitudes. Organized by film writer and historian Farran Nehme along with Dave Kehr and Olivia Priedite, the program showcases an array of talent from popular early-1930s actresses like Madge Evans, Mae Clarke, and Nancy Carroll, focusing specifically on stardom, femininity, and performance. Through this dive into the representation of gender in the pre-Code era (1929 to mid-1934), we can...

Cinelinx rides high with the Wild Stallion DVD from Warner Archive!
The Set-up
A horse tracker (Ben Johnson) searches for a white stallion that he once owned as a child and now roams the hills on the western frontier. Also stars Edgar Buchanan, Martha Hyer, Hayden Rorke, and Hugh Beaumont.
Directed by Lewis D. Collins
A manufacture-on-demand DVD.
The Delivery
Modern film fans often downplay the value of most pre-1960 westerns, dismissing them as all the same. Of course, this is not the case; westerns were usually built around a charismatic actor or scenic locale, and their penchant for strong moral lessons gives each a distinctive personality.
Wild Stallion, a 1952 Monogram western, plays more like one of the live-action Disney dramas of the era than a standard western, which is actually part of the charm. There's a strong story here, even if there's a bit of wooden acting from some involved.

Mexico City -- The plane carrying Mexican-American music superstar Jenni Rivera plunged almost vertically from more than 28,000 feet and hit the ground in a nose-dive at a speed that may have exceeded 600 miles per hour, Mexico's top transportation official said Tuesday.
In the first detailed account of the moments leading up to the crash that killed Rivera and six other people, Secretary of Communications and Transportation Gerardo Ruiz Esparza told Radio Formula that the twin-engine turbojet hit the ground 1.2 miles from where it began falling.
"The plane practically nose-dived," he said. "The impact must have been terrible."
Ruiz did not offer any explanation of what may have caused the plane to plummet, saying only that "The plane fell from an altitude of 28,000 feet ... It may have hit a speed higher than 1,000 kph (621 mph)."
Ruiz said the pilot of the plane, Miguel Perez Soto, had a valid Mexican pilot's license that would have expired in January.

Disgraced TV presenter Justin Lee Collins has allegedly been approached by Channel 5 to take part in the next series of Celebrity Big Brother. Lee Collins was found guilty of harassment of his ex-girlfriend Anna Larke after a two-week trial in October. The former Friday Night Project host has insisted that he will "never accept" the allegations that he is a violent abuser, despite being sentenced to 140 hours of community service by a jury at St Albans Crown Court. According to The Mirror, Big Brother producers are happy to have him on the show because he has completed his community service and they believe it will give viewers the chance to make up their own minds about whether he has changed. With the Premier League getting underway last weekend, with all the hype surrounding some of the world’s biggest clubs and players, it was forgivable perhaps to have forgotten that the Npower Championship started as well. Last season, Blackburn, Bolton and Wolves were relegated from England’s topflight. How will they fare this season? Here, with the assistance of fellow football fan Ross Potter, we examine each side and predict where they will finish up come the end of the season.
Barnsley
Having narrowly avoided relegation last season due to Portsmouth’s 10 point deduction, Barnsley have looked to add experience to a young looking squad. Mainly working through the free transfer market, the only money to have left the pocket of the owners is the £50k spent on the defender Lee Collins, and acquisition from League 2 side Port Vale.

To mark the 50th Anniversary of one of the most successful movie franchises of all time and with filming now complete on James Bond’s 23rd official outing in Skyfall due for release later this year, I have been tasked with taking a retrospective look at the films that turned author Ian Fleming’s creation into one of the most recognised and iconic characters in film history.
Following Roger Moore’s departure from the lead role after starring in the previous seven films, the fifteenth James Bond film, The Living Daylights, was seized upon as an opportunity to reboot the series with not only a new Bond but a new approach to the franchise that had become rather formulaic over the past 25 years. Taking the title from one of Fleming’s short stories, writers Richard Maibaum and Michael G. Wilson took the character back to his roots making a conscious...

Actress Olivia Hussey is making a return to the big screen after a five-year hiatus to play Oliver! star Mark Lester's mother in medieval epic 1066.
The Argentina-born star, who shot to fame after playing Juliet in Franco Zeffirelli’s 1968 classic Romeo & Juliet, has been brought out of semi-retirement to play Countess Gytha in the star-studded period war film.
Announcing the casting news on Monday, 1066 director Robin Jacob tells WENN, "We are extremely happy to announce the attachment of Ms Olivia Hussey to the 1066 Project. Countess Gytha was the wife of Earl Godwin, the powerful leader of the Godwin dynasty and mother to future King Harold ll; she was an immensely strong woman who had some incredible life experiences that shaped her character.
"I believe that Olivia will bring Gytha to life, she is a tremendously versatile actress with the depth and substance that is essential to the role."
The film, an "historically accurate portrayal of almost half a century of intrigue, the people, politics and power struggles that lead to the great battle at Hastings on October 14th 1066 between King Harold II and William Duke of Normandy", also features British stars Susan George, Lewis Collins, John Altman and Matt Fiddes, who was formerly Michael Jackson's bodyguard.

A couple of nights ago, I got home very late from a screening and thought I’d flick on the TV. This is something that I never do as I always have far too many posts to write for HeyUGuys but on this occasion it was obviously destiny as Five had a TV show on which was called, Justin Lee Collins vs. Steven Seagal. Lee Collins is a TV presenter her in the UK and has done previous programmes like Bring Back Star Wars and Bring Back the A-Team. He was going to do Bring Back the Goonies but Empire got in there first.
Anyway, this new series has started on Five and to my delight after looking for a clip from the programmes, they’ve put the entire show on YouTube! Fantastic effort Five! O don;t know if it’s region encoded or what but if you have 45 minutes to spare,...

Justin Lee Collins has voiced his intention to retire from TV in the near future to open a bookshop. The host of Five's new gameshow Heads Or Tails explained that he can't understand why veteran stars such as Bruce Forsyth or Des O'Connor are still working in the industry. Lee Collins, a father-of-two, told The Mirror: "I'd like to be ridiculously busy for the next two years and if I can make my childrens' futures secure I'm inclined to say, here and now, that I'll (more)...
