LONDON -- The U.K. Film Council said Tuesday that it has hired producer Claire Chapman to head up its Los Angeles-based operations. Chapman will replace Susan Finlayson-Sitch, who is returning to the U.K. after six years at the helm of the council's L.A. office. Chapman, most recently head of production at public funding body Scottish Screen, has overseen the Glasgow-based organization's involvement in several productions, including Andrea Arnold's Red Road, the Prix du Jury winner at this year's Festival de Cannes. UKFC chief executive John Woodward said the appointment came at a "key moment in the U.S. film industry's long relationship with the U.K." Added Woodward: "Claire's priorities will include making sure that the new film tax system is promoted and understood in Hollywood. In addition, Claire will focus on promoting British films in the U.S. and building stronger business links between British and U.S. film businesses across the value chain." Chapman will take up the reins in August.
