It’s time for a new episode of our Deconstructing… video series, and with this one we’re preparing for this weekend’s release of the slasher sequel Scream 6 by looking back at the 1997 franchise installment Scream 2 (watch it Here). To see Scream 2 get the Deconstructing… treatment, check out the video embedded above.
Directed by Wes Craven from a screenplay by Kevin Williamson, Scream 2 has the following synopsis: Sidney Prescott and tabloid reporter Gale Weathers survived the events of the first Scream, but their nightmare isn’t over. When two college students are murdered at a sneak preview of Stab, a movie based on the events from the first film, it’s clear a copycat killer is on the loose. Sidney and Gail, as well as fellow survivors Deputy Dewey and Randy have to find out who is behind this new murder spree, before they all end up dead.

We have made it, fellow Scream fans! We are officially only a few days away from Scream VI’s arrival in theaters, and it’s something that I am very excited about as a longtime fan of this franchise. With that in mind, I thought it would be fun to take a look back on the five franchise deaths that have impacted my own fandom the most over the years. What I think is so great about the Scream series is that every single death truly matters (which is very different from a lot of the slasher movies that preceded this series), so honestly, omitting a few key Scream figures from my list hurts, but sacrifices must be made.
Writer’s Note: The following contains spoilers from several different Scream movies. So just in case you haven’t seen them all just yet, be forewarned that the following will discuss...

Although "Scream 2" was mostly well-received back in 1997, audiences had one major complaint: the killer reveals were far more underwhelming than they were the first time around. Some of this was unavoidable; the first film's big twist was less the killers themselves than the fact that there were two of them, so it could afford to make both Billy Loomis and Stu seem sketchy as hell without giving too much away.
"Scream 2" didn't have that luxury. The possibility of two killers had not been forgotten, so screenwriter Kevin Williamson had to come up with a different approach for its two big reveals. The result was a little disappointing; the killers turned out to be Mickey (Timothy Olyphant) and Debbie Salt, aka Mrs. Loomis (Laurie Metcalf) — two characters who didn't make a huge impression on audiences pre-reveal.
Upon rewatch, it's clear that Mrs. Loomis was indeed a constant presence throughout the film,...

Although "I Know What You Did Last Summer" has a reputation as just one of the many slasher thrillers trying to cash in on the success of "Scream," the script for the movie was written long before "Scream" hit theaters. Screenwriter Kevin Williamson wrote the script as a loose adaptation of the 1973 novel of the same name, and when "Scream" (also written by Williamson) became an unexpected hit, the previously uninterested studio decided to rush "Ikwydls" into production.
Of course, the 1997 film never did match the height of the "Scream" franchise. That's partly because the movie's premise only really works once, and partly because the eventual reveal of its central mystery wasn't that compelling or groundbreaking. Where "Ikwydls" shined brightest, however, was with Helen's (Sarah Michelle Gellar) chase scene near the end. It's one of the only sequences where that sense of tension and horror feels genuine, partly because Helen...

Neve Campbell, David Arquette, and Courteney Cox have been the face of "Scream" since 1996, but this series has also done a great job when it comes to its supporting cast. One of the coolest things about entering a horror franchise is that, for better or worse, your character will be remembered. Folks like Casey Becker (Drew Barrymore), Cici Cooper (Sarah Michelle Gellar), and Hallie McDaniel (Elise Neal) are just as important to "Scream" as the main trio, in addition to those who end up revealing themselves as Ghostface. But it shouldn't come as a surprise that Hayden Panettiere's Kirby Reed in "Scream 4" has come out on the other side as one of the series' lasting favorites.
"Scream" would feel lost without a movie geek in the crowd, which made it all the more heartbreaking when Randy Meeks (Jamie Kennedy) succumbed to Ghostface's wrath in "Scream 2." Where Kirby...

Released just before Christmas 1996, the Wes Craven slasher Scream was a surprisingly big hit, and Dimension Films wanted to cash in on it right away. They rushed a sequel into production for a December 1997 release, with Craven back to direct and Scream writer Kevin Williamson working on the screenplay. But the Scream 2 (watch it Here) that reached the screen at the end of ’97 wasn’t the story Williamson had originally envisioned. When the initial script leaked online, Williamson had to do some extensive rewrites… and the Scream 2 we would have gotten from Williamson’s first script is the focus of the new episode of our Wtf Happened to This Unmade Horror Movie? video series. Check it out in the embed above!

Movie mistakes come in a lot of different forms. Sometimes they're inconsequential gaffes, minor continuity errors, or shaky science. Sure, they're occasionally noticeable, but "The Shining" is still "The Shining," even if the infamous hedge maze is missing from the first overhead shot of the hotel. "Moonfall" is still "Moonfall," even if the moon would never quite fall like that. It's part of the filmmaking process itself. Some of it is practicality — like empty mugs movie characters toss around — and some is simply a matter of rushed schedules and truncated budgets.
Still, some mistakes are more consequential. Especially in horror films, these mistakes can make or break a movie, sucking the scares right out of the film reels. This list specifically focuses on small mistakes that almost ruined horror masterpieces. Luckily, most of these were addressed prerelease, leaving audiences with the classics they know and love today. While not every...

Across two coasts and two shooting days, the stars gathered in a studio to record their cameos for the tribute music video for the posthumously released Aaliyah track “Miss You.” In the song, Aaliyah sings to a past lover who has since moved on from their relationship,...

This is sad news for the TV writing community. Veteran comedy writer/producer and screenwriting teacher Eunetta T. Boone, who created the 2001 comedy series One on One, passed away Wednesday.
At the time of her death, Boone was working as executive producer and showrunner on the third season of Disney Channel’s hit sitcom Raven’s Home, starring and executive produced by Raven-Symoné. Boone joined the series full-time late last year after a stint as a consultant.
“Eunetta Boone was a wonderful person and a consummate storyteller and teacher, and through her leadership on many productions including Raven’s Home, she did so well what she enjoyed most — mentoring creative talent,” Disney Channel said in a statement. “Eunetta will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by everyone who knew her. All of us at Disney Channel grieve her passing and send our deepest condolences to her family, friends and colleagues.

Veteran comedy writer/producer Eunetta T. Boone (One on One) has been tapped as executive producer and showrunner for the third season of Disney Channel’s hit sitcom Raven’s Home. Boone most recently was a consultant on the series, working closely with executive producer and star Raven-Symoné. Emmy-nominated writer/producer Warren Hutcherson (Dr. Ken) also joins the series as co-executive producer. Production for season three is underway for premiere in 2019.
This marks a return to TV for Boone, who was a rising-star TV comedy writer in the 1990s and early 2000s, working on such popular series as The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air, Living Single, The Parent ‘Hood, The Hughleys and My Wife and Kids, leading to her creating and executive producing her own successful series, One on One starring Kyla Pratt, which aired on Upn for five seasons and spawned a spin-off series, Cuts starring Marques Houston and Shannon Elizabeth.

Whenever I stop to think about how long it’s been since the Scream movies first debuted in theaters, it makes me feel, well, old. Heck, the installment we’re discussing today – Scream 2 – was rolled out during my freshman year of high school, and is now celebrating its twentieth anniversary.
Now, all these years later, I can’t help but appreciate the franchise for the same reasons I did back in the day: It had all the elements of the classic slasher, while also serving as a commentary on the horror genre itself and, on top of that, succeeded in enthralling moviegoers such as myself with its whodunit nature. In other words, perhaps the biggest appeal in watching any Scream movie is eventually finding out just who’s under the iconic Ghostface mask that time around.

Today marks a very special day for X-Men fans as 20th Century Fox is poised to unleash Logan, James Mangold’s lauded thriller that closed the book on Wolverine’s saga with style and grace, onto Blu-ray and DVD.
By all accounts, it’s been a relatively quick turnaround from the studio – remember, Logan first clawed its way into theaters back in March – and you’d be hard-pressed to find any Wolverine fan worth their salt that isn’t about to add Mangold’s R-rated masterclass to their Blu-ray collection. What’s more, the director has spent the past few days soliciting all sorts of questions pertaining to Hugh Jackman’s last hurrah in those adamantium claws, including the infamous Westchester incident and why he considers Logan‘s finale to be bittersweet.

For Logan, a moment director James Mangold decided to cut proved to be crucial to the film's whole tone.
On the Logan Blu-ray, due out Tuesday, there are a number of deleted scenes, all of which have commentary by director James Mangold. They are all excellent — and for the most part were cut for time, Mangold explains; all except one — a Jean Grey reference that wouldn't have ruined the movie, but would have made for an utterly depressing film.

'Logan' movie with Hugh Jackman as the mutant Wolverine: 20th Century Fox's gamble results in one of the best superhero movies. 'Logan' movie review: 'Wolverine' trilogy concluded 'in surprising and rewarding fashion' The trailer for Logan, the final film in the standalone Wolverine trilogy, is set to Johnny Cash's funereal cover of “Hurt,” the already-depressing song by Nine Inch Nails. If there was ever a warning that a superhero film was going to trudge down a grim path, that's as unsubtle an indication as you're gonna get. It's a warning worth heeding, though. Logan is a long, grave, and violent neo-Western; a Dark Knight of the soul that earns its R-rating before its first scene is complete. For audiences whose appetite for Marvel's vaguely juvenile destructo-thons has congealed into cultural obligation and drudgery, Logan is a welcome expansion of what a superhero saga can be. And even...

Like all of you, I've been eagerly anticipating the new trailer for Logan, and today, Hugh Jackman confirmed that the trailer will debut tomorrow! That gives us all something awesome to look forward to! Jackman made the announcement with the following tweet:

I can't wait to see what this new trailer shows us. What I loved so much about the first trailer is that it didn't even really look like a superhero film, it looked like an awesome gritty western. Will the new trailer be better than the last? We'll find out tomorrow!
I also included a new official photo below featuring Dafne Keen as a very young version of X-23. It comes with the simple caption "waiting." I assume she's waiting for Logan, but it's not really important. What's important is that we get to see a new trailer for Logan tomorrow!

20th Century Fox is poised to cap off its marketing spiel for James Mangold’s Logan with a second and seemingly final trailer. It’ll claw its way online tomorrow, January 19 – and come in two distinct versions, according to TrailerTrack – and to ensure excitement remains at a fever-pitch, the latest image for Mangold’s superhero threequel has found its way online.
It’s by no means as crisp and clear as previous portraits of Hugh Jackman’s anti-hero, but it does give us another look at his glowering, world-weary Wolverine ahead of his much-anticipated swan song. What’s more, the pic appears to be taken from the film’s funeral scene glimpsed in previous trailers, though we’ll surely find out much more come tomorrow.
Dragged out of his self-imposed exile by the fresh-faced Laura (Aka X-23), Logan is rooted in a dystopian future wherein the mutant population is beginning to wane.

The images provide us with fresh looks at the elderly Professor Charles Xavier (Sir Patrick Stewart), Laura/X-23 (Dafne Keen), and the iconic mutant badass of the title, Wolverine (Hugh Jackman).
As the recently released synopsis clarifies, the story is going to focus on a world-weary Logan, who finds himself looking after an even more broken down Professor X, whose extremely powerful mind has begun to fail him. These pics of the duo certainly reflect how jaded the characters have become, and hammer home the bleakness that was established in the teaser trailer. Cliff Martinez is one of the most exciting composers in Hollywood today. Most recently, his scores in The Neon Demon and Steven Soderbergh’s Cinemax series The Knick are among the richest, most expressive music compositions of the past few years. As such, we were excited to hear what he would do with Logan, but alas, we’ll never know. For reasons unknown, Martinez has been replaced by Marco Beltrami, director James Mangold’s regular composer, who also worked on 2013’s The Wolverine.
The news came from Mangold’s own Twitter account (via Film Music Reporter). When pressed by a diehard Beltrami fan as to why the composer wouldn’t return, the filmmaker corrected him.
@marco_beltrami Sure! But always wise to start softer and hear from other side before making accusations. Relax. Marco is scoring the film.

There’s no explanation as to why Martinez stepped aside for Beltrami.
