As the news gets darker and more depressing, a triumphant “against the odds” inspired by true events underdog story may be just the cure for the late Winter doldrums. And that’s exactly what this week’s new movie promises…and pretty much delivers. It’s an ode to the “help your neighbor” spirit of small-town America (not that it’s completely absent in the bustling cities). Plus there’s a bit of spirituality (right in the title) along with some folks overcoming their own personal struggles. And as a bonus, this marks a most welcome return of an actress to the big screen, in a wide release, after earning a second Oscar almost twenty years ago. In a new “real-life” role this extraordinary actress becomes the leader of a group of Ordinary Angels.
The film’s story doesn’t start with her, though. Instead, we’re in the hospital...

Review: When I first saw the trailer for Ordinary Angels, I wrote it off without a second thought as another faith-based drama designed to tug at the heartstrings and reinforce the unlimited power of God. In recent years, there has been a surge in movies like this; few have risen above the minimal viable bar for them to be considered watchable by mainstream audiences. ‘Ordinary Angels’ Review: Hilary Swank’s Passionate Performance Drives True Faith Based Family Drama
Lionsgate’s collaboration with faith based movie producers Kingdom Story Company has reaped boxoffice rewards for both, and with their latest, Ordinary Angels, the inspiring true story of a small Kentucky town that comes together in a historic snowstorm in order to transport a 3-year-old girl to an Omaha hospital for a life-saving liver transplant, they have another surefire heartfelt film tailor-made for audiences looking for a little uplift. This actually would have made a perfect Christmas season release but has been delayed for several months, now opening in the same February corridor where Kingdom’s surprise hit, Jesus Revolution did well last year. Midwest crowds will especially respond to a never-say-never tale that is about bringing people together, not tearing them apart in this age of division.

Steven Spielberg and Stephen King. Two artists at the very top of their fields. King: one of the best-selling authors of all time. Spielberg: the filmmaker who invented the blockbuster. How have these guys never worked together? Well, it's not for lack of trying. In fact, these titans have come very close to teaming up on several occasions. When Spielberg was writing "Poltergeist," he wanted King's help with the script. "It didn't work out because it was before the internet and we had a communication breakdown," King told EW.
Then there was "The Talisman," the fantasy novel King co-wrote with the late Peter Straub. Before the book even hit the shelves, Spielberg scooped up the rights — but neither a film nor a TV adaptation has ever materialized. "Several times he came very close to making it, and there were a lot of discussions about that," King said. It was...

If you were an American independent filmmaker in the '90s, you could do a lot worse than casting Quentin Tarantino in a role. Odds are, you were already trying to rip him off anyway — maybe putting him in the movie could bring some of the magic he delivered with 1992's "Reservoir Dogs" and 1994's "Pulp Fiction." Movies like Rory Kelly's "Sleep With Me" let him play himself, riffing on the homoerotic subtext of "Top Gun." But only one movie trusted that the director's acting chops were sufficient to play the role of God. Or something.
That was "Destiny Turns On The Radio," a sprawling and silly crime comedy where prison escapee Julian (Dylan McDermott) returns home after three years spent locked up. He's hoping to make good with ex-girlfriend Lucille (Nancy Travis) and tie up loose ends with others like partner-in-crime Thoreau (James LeGros) and his Pappy (Tracey Walker). Meanwhile,...

Exclusive: The Kingdom Studios and Lionsgate drama Ordinary Angels starring 2x Oscar winner Hilary Swank is departing from its Oct. 13 theatrical release date as AMC’s Taylor Swift: The New Eras Tour looks to open to at least $70M off a female-heavy audience.
Universal’s The Exorcist: The Believer seeing the crazy amount of presales at $37M+ yesterday opted to go a week earlier on Oct. 6, which is much richer release date where Joker, and Venom have launched.
No bother for Ordinary Angels which is Tbd in regards to its release date. Lionsgate runs an entirely grass roots campaign on these pics, so there’s complete flexibility and no wasted media or P&a costs. Furthermore, we understand, that Swank wants to promote the pic. So, potentially waiting out the SAG-AFTRA strike is prudent for a smaller feature such as this.

"I have to make it! This is our last chance. If we don't take it, Michelle dies!" Lionsgate has debuted a new trailer for Ordinary Angels, a religious drama based on a real medical emergency and struggling family. Arriving in theaters nationwide starting this October, sticking with this date despite the ongoing strikes in Hollywood. Inspired by the true story of a hairdresser who single-handedly rallies an entire community to help a widowed father save the life of his critically ill daughter who desperately needs a liver transplant. "Faith can make the impossible possible," is the tagline. This is leaning heavy on the religious side of the story, which means they will get the attention of many faithful Americans. The movie stars Hilary Swank as Sharon Steves, with Alan Ritchson, Nancy Travis, Tamala Jones, & Amy Acker, plus Skywalker Hughes and Emily Mitchell as the kids. This is as cheesy as they come!

Very rarely do filmmakers helm the remakes of their own films. In these cases, they are movies like 1993’s The Vanishing, in which director George Sluizer remade his original 1988 international thriller of the same name for an English-language adaptation in the United States with American stars Jeff Bridges, Kiefer Sutherland and Nancy Travis. Action legend John Woo would do the same, albeit to a smaller degree, as he remade his 1991 film, Once a Thief, into a TV movie in 1996.
The guns-a-blazing maestro is at it again. This time, with the movie that many regard as his best film, 1989’s The Killer, which starred his frequent collaborator, Chow-Yun Fat. According to World of Reel, Woo has already started production on the remake of The Killer, which will be taking place in France. The film is set to star Nathalie Emmanuel and Omar Sy. With the first season of Ride well underway on Hallmark Channel, why not get to know the family at the heart of it a bit better? TV Insider sat down with Nancy Travis (Isabel McMurray), Beau Mirchoff (Cash McMurray), and Tiera Skovbye (Missy McMurray). Their characters are part of a small-town family keeping their ranch afloat and their place in the rodeo alive following the death of Marcus Rosner’s Austin. And so we decided to see which character is “most likely to…” to find out more. It wasn’t quite that easy for them to determine who’s most likely to sacrifice it all for family, since that’s something so important to all of them. “Family’s definitely the brass ring of this show. And it’s not just the people you’re related to. It’s the family of the community,” Travis says. That being said, would...

Lionsgate has revealed an official trailer for Ordinary Angels, a religious drama based on a real medical emergency and struggling family. Sara Garcia portrays Valeria Galindo, Missy McMurray's best friend and one of the most interesting characters on Hallmark's Ride.
TV Fanatic chatted with Sara about Valeria's past secrets, her close relationship with Isobel, and if Valeria's secrets will hurt the McMurrays.
Check out the interview below:
Hi Sara. I love Valeria. She's become one of my favorite characters on Ride. What are some of your favorite things about playing her?
There are so many things. First of all, she seems to be good at everything. She has many skills, and they show up throughout the season. In Ride Season 1 Episode 4, we saw her as an expert poker player. Since she has many skills, I learned more skills.
I learned how to play poker from a professional. I got to learn how to shuffle cards professionally. That was fun.

There’s a new cowboy in town on Hallmark Channel’s Ride. The April 16 episode of the rodeo family drama introduced Cody, a farrier played by James Tupper. He was on hand to help Isabel (Nancy Travis) deal with a tricky situation involving one of her mares. But is it possible that he had more on his mind than just assisting with a horse?

TV’s latest family dynasty show is on the Hallmark Channel, and it’s not exactly like others out there: These characters won’t be stabbing each other in the back so fast or easily. Ride follows the McMurrays, a small-town ranching family. Nancy Travis plays matriarch Isabel, who, after losing her husband, has kept the ranch afloat and raised their sons. After one (Marcus Rosner’s Austin) dies in a rodeo accident, Tiera Skovbye’s Missy is left a widow, and she and Isabel work together to keep things going — and help as Isabel’s son Cash (Beau Mirchoff) steps into Austin’s shoes. Complicating matters? What may or may not be brewing between Missy and Cash. When TV Insider asked Travis, Mirchoff, and Skovbye on which other family dynasty shows their characters would fare best and worst on, it was much easier for them to choose the latter.

The McMurray family has taken over Hallmark Channel. The network’s new series Ride follows the members of a ranching and rodeo dynasty and they fight to keep control of their land and move forward after a devastating loss. The show is set in rural Colorado, but it’s actually filmed in Canada.

In Ride, the McMurray’s Colorado ranch is located in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains. But the show isn’t actually filmed in the Centennial State. Like many Hallmark Channel shows and movies, production takes place in Canada.
Ride episodes are filmed in and around Calgary, Alberta. The stunning landscapes around the provincial capital made filming there “so fun,” co-showrunner Rebecca Boss told the Calgary Herald.
“The elements are part of the story,” she said.

The McMurray curse has been haunting the family since the series began, and on Ride Season 1 Episode 3, Cash chose to look at it differently.
He's had undue pressure on his shoulders since he returned, trying to follow in his late father's and brother's footsteps and prove that their family is thriving.
"The McMurray Curse" showed how Beau Mirchoff has matured as an actor into a leading man.
Cash is the rebel son, but he's always willing to please his mother, including schmoozing the Bull Riders League Gala judges. I love their relationship.
Cash: You know I hate this stuff.
Isobel: It doesn’t matter. If you want to do this…I mean, really do this.
Missy: She’s right. If you meet the judges and they like you, it can mean a difference in your score.

Within minutes, the McMurrays cemented a place in our hearts, and hopefully, we'll be watching them for several seasons.

Many long-running family dramas have ended recently, including This Is Us, Good Witch, and Chesapeake Shores. Ride elevates the family loyalty from Chesapeake Shores and adds sizzling chemistry from the two leads.
The multi-talented cast adds to the magic of the series, particularly the McMurray family. Nancy Travis is a well-respected actress known for many projects, especially ABC's Last Man standing. She plays the matriarch, Isobel McMurray.

It looks like Hallmark Channel is trying to catch some of that Yellowstone fever with the series premiere of its new rodeo family drama Ride.

Spoiler Alert! This story reveals plot point from the March 26 series premiere of Ride on Hallmark.
It takes place on a bucolic but cash-strapped ranch that’s operated by a widowed parent who loses a beloved family member in the premiere episode — all while everyone looks straight-up sexy in their Wranglers and cowboy boots.
But that’s where the similarities to Yellowstone end for Hallmark’s Ride, insists Sherri Cooper-Landsman, who showruns the new drama about a rodeo dynasty with Rebecca Boss and Chris Masi (Our Kind of People).
“For me, it was just this beautiful ranch setting with a family going through stuff that a family goes through,” Cooper-Landsman tells Deadline of Ride. “And to be honest, I hadn’t even watched Yellowstone, so I did not even think about that. It just was this beautiful setting and a worlds that Becky [Rebecca] really knew so well.
