Spoiler Alert: This story contains details of tonight’s Blue Bloods Season 14 midseason finale, which is the close of the first part of the NYPD family drama’s final season.
“Father, forgive me for I have sinned,” says New York Police commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) in church in tonight’s Blue Bloods last midseason finale as he tries to repair a rift with his actual father, the former NYPD commissioner Henry Reagan (Len Cariou).
It ain’t the Sunday dinner that defines the well-watched CBS series, but it certainly was a moment of affirmation for perspicacious fans who may be speculating where their show is going to go in its final episodes after a long long run. Put another way, Blue Bloods may be ending later this year, but you’d never know it from the Season 14 midseason finale that aired tonight.

Sherlock Holmes is an iconic fictional character from Conan Doyle’s novels that has been adapted into TV shows, games, and movies for decades. While Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock gained popularity in the 2010s, its Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu rendition of the iconic detective duo caught fans’ attention the longest. And it’s not just because Dr. Watson is a woman. Many fans of the intelligent British detective might see this as another gender swap to fit the changing times or meet a quota on set but there is more to this American Dr. Watson in the show Elementary than meets

Harvey Weinstein is currently serving a twenty-three-year sentence in prison for r-pe and s-xual assault. Of course, this might not have been possible without the many prominent actresses who built up the courage to talk about the heinous acts of the disgraced producer, Angelina Jolie included.

There’s a fascinating Instagram account that digs up paparazzi shots of stars attending premieres and film events in the 1990s. The main attraction is the outlandish fashion, but also the randomness of the guest list and the questions the images throw up: why were Angela Lansbury and John Oates invited to the Untouchables premiere in 1987? Did Sidney Poitier really enjoy Predator 2? Why did Richard Harris decide to bring his dog to the 1993 Independent Film awards?
One that caught my eye recently was the premiere of Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting in New York. Metallica are there, looking wild-eyed and inebriated, as is a smouldering Ray Liotta. An incredibly young-looking trio of Jonny Lee Miller, Boyle and Ewen Bremner attempt to fit in.

Of the many terribly interesting things touched on in Danny Boyle’s smart and skillful adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s 1993 debut novel, Trainspotting, it’s most tempting to contemplate facets that are only mildly developed. There is, for instance, the pointed, oddly chilling, and deeply funny monologue that Renton (Ewan McGregor), the closest thing that the audience is given to a hero here, delivers in opposition to his straight-arrow friend’s buoyant Scottish nationalism. As Renton barks at Tommy (Kevin McKidd), personal despondency is connected directly to lack of a unique cultural identity, which Renton is quick to see as a reflection of Scotland’s muddled ties to the United Kingdom.
The whole spiel doesn’t quite account for the astounding amount of heroin that Renton and his cronies pump into their corroded veins, attained through various burglaries and scams, but coupled with the dour, decrepit environs of Glasgow and...

Who is Dr. John Watson without Sherlock Holmes? CBS aims to find out as they have given a straight-to-series order to Watson, a drama series starring Morris Chestnut as the title character.
Set one year after the death of Sherlock Holmes at the hands of Moriarty, Watson will see “Dr. John Watson resume his medical career as the head of a clinic dedicated to treating rare disorders. Watson’s old life isn’t done with him, though—Moriarty and Watson are set to write their own chapter of a story that has fascinated audiences for more than a century.“
Craig Sweeny created the series and will serve as showrunner and executive producer. He also has experience with the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle as he served as a writer and executive producer on Elementary, which starred Jonny Lee Miller as Sherlock Holmes and Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson.

Mickey Mouse has got a knife. With those simple words, and the corresponding horror movie trailer which goes with them, it’s become clear that the 21st century is about to get weird. Well, weirder, at any rate.
Nearly a hundred years after Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks animated the short film “Steamboat Willie,” which introduced a rodent who helped Walt build an empire, the same short cartoon has entered the public domain as of Jan. 1, 2024. And already there have been as many new Mickey Mouse slasher projects announced as there’ve been days in the New Year.
The first and clearly most advanced is Mickey’s Mouse Trap, a film set in a fictional amusement park where teenagers are picked off one at a time by a man with uncomfortably familiar-looking mouse ears. The logline promises (or warns?): “It’s Alex’s 21st Birthday, but she’s stuck...

For 12 seasons, "Murder, She Wrote" was the definitive cozy murder mystery show. Set in the small and charming yet dead-body-filled fictional town of Cabot Cove, Maine, the show wormed its way into the hearts of procedural fans everywhere with its familiar structure and unlikely hero -- middle-aged mystery writer Jessica Fletcher (Angela Lansbury). While the actor behind the beloved amateur sleuth passed away in 2022, "Murder, She Wrote" lives on, both in the form of much-watched reruns and in an upcoming movie adaptation.
Little is known about the new version of "Murder, She Wrote" at this point, but screenwriters Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo have said that the story will relate back to Cabot Cove and Jessica in some capacity. When it comes to potential cameos from old cast members, the pool is unfortunately limited, as several of the series' lead actors have passed away in the decades since the show ended.

“The Crown” series finale premiere in London on Tuesday evening brought out the cast and creatives behind the hit Netflix show as well as a smattering of other familiar faces keen to catch a sneak peek of the last-ever episode.
Imelda Staunton, who plays the last iteration of Queen Elizabeth II in the fifth and sixth seasons of the series, led the red carpet. Despite the chaos around her — from reporters clamoring to ask questions to photographers shouting her name — the star told Variety her focus had always been on the character.
“I don’t look at maelstrom,” she said. “It doesn’t interest me. I just look at the script, look at the part, go to work.”
Newcomer Meg Bellamy, who joined the series as a college-age Kate Middleton for Season 6, was more emotional about getting the part, which also happened to be her first ever professional acting job.

The episode of Revisited covering Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein was Written by Emilie Black, Narrated by Niki Minter, Edited by Joseph Wilson, Produced by Tyler Nichols and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
When one mentions the name Frankenstein in the horror film world, almost everyone thinks of the Universal Monsters version of it, the one brought to the screens in 1931 starring Boris Karloff as The Monster. His version is beloved for many reasons. However, one of the closest to the novel adaptation is Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (watch it Here) from 1994, directed and starring Kenneth Branagh with Robert De Niro as The Creature. As what is supposed to be the closest adaptation, it would be easy to think it would be adored by fans and while that is true for some, it’s not for many.
As for myself, well, my opinion of it seems to change year to year almost.

Yes, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) confirmed he’s had “a bit of both” on his self-titled Disney+ series, but besides the gender-fluid demi-god, the only canonically gay character in the MCU is Bryan Tyree Henry’s Phastos in “Eternals.” Marvel and DC may not have fully embraced queer characters: but a number of actors playing superheroes are absolutely part of the LGBTQ community.
Here’s some openly out thespians who’ve donned a cape — and looked fabulous doing it.
Angelina Jolie, Thena in “Eternals”
Jolie became part of the MCU in this 2021 all-star film as the nearly invincible Thena. She was previously married to Jonny Lee Miller, Billy Bob Thornton and Brad Pitt, but has always been open about dating women as well, as she told Barbara Walters in 2003.
Tessa Thompson, Valkyrie in “Thor: Ragnarok”
Thompson rocked her role of Valkyrie so hard in “Thor: Ragnarok” that the character ended up becoming the King of Asgard.

As on-screen text reads, the U.S. responded to 9/11 by deploying troops to Afghanistan. As the number of troops rose across the next decade, the U.S. military employed Afghan interpreters under an agreement that they would be eligible for Special Immigration Visas and relocation to America. That work is seen as the film flashes to 2018, when a routine check ends with a vehicle explosion and lives lost.
Sergeant John Kinley (Jake Gyllenhaal) leads a unit whose mission is to locate Taliban firearms and munitions, which includes a replacement interpreter in the form of Ahmed (Dar Salim). While considerably disliked, the interpreter proves himself a valuable member as he deduces an ambush lurking ahead of the unit.

In 1993, author Irvine Welsh released his first novel Trainspotting into the world. The novel centered around the lives of heroin users Renton, Spud, Sickboy and their friends Begbie and Tommy. Released in the United Kingdom in 1995, and later released to America in 1996, the movie would also depict heroin addicts in Edinburgh, Scotland as they deal with life, drugs and their consequences as well as their various exploits. It was why Jolie was adamant about not sleeping with ex-husband Brad Pitt while he was still married to Jennifer Aniston.
“To be intimate with a married man, when my own father cheated on my mother, is not something I could forgive,” Jolie once said according to People. “I could not, could not look at myself in the morning if I did that.

It’s straight in at the deep end with Bertie Carvel. The London actor, who was once the most hated man in the country as Suranne Jones’s cheating suburban hubby in Doctor Foster, is speaking to me about the second season of his Channel 5 detective drama, Dalgliesh. He appears over Zoom from the Hampstead house he grew up in, which he moved back into with his wife during the pandemic. That must have provided some comfort in uncertain times, I proffer. He tilts his head sideways. “Well, it was distressing in some ways, because we moved back here because my mum had passed away.” Oh, right. “It was a lot to encounter all of your history in that way, but amazing, too.” Around the same time, Carvel’s son was born. “I was looking back over my life as he was starting his,” he says. “It was sort...

Rating: 4.0/5.0
The film is set during the U.S. occupation of Afghanistan. Jake Gyllenhaal is John Kinley, an Army reconnaissance expert searching for the Taliban enemy who plants IEDs on the roadsides. He takes in a new interpreter named Ahmed (Dar Salim) who has a deeper revenge factor against the enemy. In their mission, they fall into an ambush, and Kinley is severely injured. In an incredible turn of events, Ahmed drags Kinley for miles back to the base, even though they’re on the Taliban most wanted list. The military finds Kinley but Ahmed disappears, so the now army veteran wants to go back in country to find his friend.

Yes, the arrival of the big Summer escapist movie season looms with the big Marvel tentpole flick taking over the multiplex in just a couple of weeks. Not that there’s not a lot of “light fare’ out there already as those “gaming” superstar plumbers still rule the box office. But we can still squeeze in some somber subject matter “inspired by true events”. Actually “recent” should figure into that phrase, as the themes of this story are still happening. Now one of the most surprising things about this new release is the filmmaker behind the camera, a director best known for breezy, high-energy, UK-based crime capers (like the flick that was around only a few weeks ago). Well, he must be pleased with the end results since, in a twist on the old love adage, rather than putting “a ring on it”, he put his own name on it,...

Review: Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant is a welcome change of pace for the director. While Ritchie is well-known for embracing a cheeky sense of humour in many of his action movies (most recently in Operation Fortune: Ruse du Guerre), this one is more along the lines of his earlier Wrath of Man, eschewing any sense of levity to tell a profoundly affecting war story. While the premise may make it sound like a buddy movie, Ritchie takes the story in unexpected directions, broken down into a solid three-act structure that gives both leads,...

I’m not sure why director Guy Ritchie has his name in the title of his latest film, but because this is I think the best Ritchie movie I have seen, I will pass up the chance to snark at the only misstep in Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant. It about as exciting, gripping and moving as war films get — especially one set in the murky Afghanistan conflict in which the U.S. found itself immersed for more than two decades.

What can one say about the career of Guy Ritchie? The guy was nearly as essential to the rejuvenation of the British film scene in the ’90s as Danny Boyle. His feature debut Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels and immediate follow-up Snatch endure in the cultural parlance to this day. What followed was a series of unfortunate events. A misbegotten Swept Away remake starring then-wife Madonna. An underseen, overambitious existential gangster epic starring Jason Statham (Revolver). Then a “comeback” movie (RocknRolla) that underwhelmed. Cue a successful rescue by Robert Downey Jr. and Arthur Conan Doyle. Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes films were hits that brought him back into the Hollywood fold. Nowadays the filmmaker is an elder-statesman-of-sorts: equal parts independent director and company man, he offers up an Aladdin for every Wrath of Man.

After building a career on flashy action, explosive set pieces and quippy bad-boy dialogue, Guy Ritchie dials things down to a pleasing degree, focusing more on human factors like honor, loyalty and dogged perseverance in the war thriller The Covenant. That doesn’t mean the director has abandoned his taste for brawny physical elements. But this is a serious-minded, well-acted drama that shows just as keen an interest in character, specifically the integrity of two men from vastly different cultures who provide the story of brotherhood and survival with its racing pulse.
The official title of the MGM/STX release is Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant, and while it’s tempting to respond with an eye roll to the Brit director’s elevation to auteur status 25 years into his highly variable career, the reasoning behind the decision reportedly was to distinguish the film from the dire 2006 horror thriller of the same name.

"The interpreter saved my life, and now I have to go save his." MGM Studios has debuted another new 60-second trailer for The Covenant, a new war movie / action thriller from British filmmaker Guy Ritchie. It's actually officially titled Guy Ritchie's The Covenant, kind of like how it was called Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio. The film follows Sergeant John Kinley, who on his last tour of duty in Afghanistan is teamed up with the local interpreter Ahmed, who risks his own life to carry the severely injured John across miles of grueling terrain to safety. Later John decides to return on an unapproved solo mission to save Ahmed and get him out of the country before the Taliban kill him. Jake Gyllenhaal & Dar Salim star as John & Ahmed, along with Antony Starr, Alexander Ludwig, and Bobby Schofield, Emily Beecham and Jonny Lee Miller. There is not much new footage...

Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd had unbeatable chemistry on Moonlighting. In fact, their chemistry could be so volatile the show ultimately could not continue, although the success of Die Hard and other movie offers probably would’ve been an irresistible force for Willis regardless. At least there were five seasons of Moonlighting, all available on DVD and creator Glenn Gordon Caron is working on getting them available on streaming services. Until then, here are 10 other shows to capture the chemistry and comic mystery if you like Moonlighting.

Exclusive: Sugar23 has signed rising star Brooklynn Prince, on the heels of her new film Cocaine Bear‘s opening weekend triumph, with a current worldwide gross of $28M+ at the worldwide box office, against a production budget of roughly $30M.
The R-rated horror-comedy directed for Universal by Elizabeth Banks has broken out as one of the early success stories of 2023, affirming that original features, and those in the comedy arena, can certainly still perform in today’s marketplace. Based loosely on real events that took place in 1985, the film watches as a duffel bag’s worth of cocaine drops from a drug smuggler’s plane and winds up in a Georgia forest, becoming a favorite snack for a hulking black bear. An electric set of unfortunate souls, including Prince, Keri Russell and Christian Convery, are then subject to the animal’s murderous rampage.

The film follows Sergeant John Kinley, who on his last tour of duty in Afghanistan is teamed up with local interpreter Ahmed, who risks his own life to carry the severely injured John across miles of grueling terrain to safety. Later John decides to return on an unapproved solo mission to save Ahmed and get him out of the country before the Taliban kill him. Jake Gyllenhaal & Dar Salim star as John & Ahmed,...
