Whether it has to do with his style of filmmaking or his maverick take on cinema, Quentin Tarantino stands apart from his contemporaries in Hollywood. The director has carved a niche for himself in the industry with his brand of storytelling that has caught the fancy of audiences across the world while also throwing up a lot of talking points regarding his stylized approach to violence.

Behind the camera, Tarantino is known to have an equally singular and quirky personality that was evident to all his actors and crew members on the sets of his films. During the filming of Kill Bill, the Pulp Fiction director took a radical decision to ban all cell phones on set owing to a particular incident that disturbed his process.

Quentin Tarantino has a few strict policies on his film sets, including banning cell phones. But he didn’t always have this rule in place. It wasn’t until a Kill Bill incident that Tarantino felt cell phones had to go.

Tarantino’s strict cell phone policy didn’t just spring out of nowhere. The filmmaker puts a lot of focus and work into making his movies what they end up being on screen. So, he’s had little tolerance for mistakes on set that might jeopardize the process. While making Kill Bill, someone received a phone call at possibly the worst time during production. And Tarantino immediately felt there needed to be a change.

Quentin Tarantino has been a voice of authority in the film industry for decades. His opinions may not always be popular, but they always command respect.
It's almost impossible to remember a time before his innovative style of filmmaking, with its witty dialogue, stylized violence and non-linear narratives. But back in the early 90s, he was an unknown trying to make his way in the film world.
It all started at a barbecue?
In 1992, Quentin Tarantino burst onto the movie scene with a heist movie that was the result of a chance meeting with producer Lawrence Bender at a barbecue. He completed the first draft in less than a month and, after impressing Bender, was able to secure financing to move the project forward.
And so, Reservoir Dogs was born.

Quentin Tarantino is one of the most decorated filmmakers of all time. He has helmed numerous films, such as Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction, which have gone on to achieve a sort of cult-like status among film buffs. The director has teamed up with the crème de la crème of Hollywood, and the efforts have always paid off, delivering memorable projects every single time.
Tarantino and Walton Goggins collaborated on The Hateful Eight in 2015, to a similar effect. The film was hailed by critics, and it even went on to win an Academy Award. It enjoyed a good run on Netflix, but it is set to leave the streaming platform this month, much to the dismay of fans.

Brian De Palma has often been called the second incarnation of Alfred Hitchcock in cinema. During his long career in Hollywood, he earned a reputation as one of the most provocative and versatile directors, equally at home directing gory horror films, brutal gangster dramas, and commercial hits.
His works became a reference not only for the creation of other movies and music videos, but also for musical careers; for example, Al Pacino's scream from Carlito's Way opened Jay-Z's second platinum album. And another of De Palma's cult films was the inspiration for Quentin Tarantino to create the best character in one of his most famous flicks, Pulp Fiction.
Tarantino’s Choice for The Role of Vincent Vega Was a Surprise to Many
Tarantino likes to choose actors at his own discretion and gets very upset when one of his chosen stars is not available to participate in his movies.

It may be hard to believe, but it has been 30 years since Pulp Fiction changed the landscape of cinema both independent and mainstream, taking home the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, earning seven Oscar nods and going on to be one of the most heralded American films ever. To celebrate the occasion, some of the cast gathered for an event to help open this year’s TCM Classic Film Festival. One attendee was Vincent Vega himself, John Travolta, who remembered just what Pulp Fiction means to fans and himself.
Speaking with People on the red carpet, John Travolta commended the ongoing support of Pulp Fiction, suggesting it may not have landed in a different era. “It was epic and it evolved. The audiences made this movie what it was, and it wasn’t overnight. It took about a year of evolution. In those days, movies stayed in the theaters for a year.

Quentin Tarantino loves film. Few filmmakers can boast such a wide knowledge of movies, especially the B-films and grindhouse works that have inspired his greatest cinematic accomplishments. Tarantino also loves to talk about future projects. Put those two passions together and you get a guy who often teases movies he never actually ends up making.
Of course, it’s not always talk. Many of his best movies, including Kill Bill and Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood started as ideas that he blabbed about to anyone who would listen. But while that approach builds excitement, it also sets up fans for disappointment, such as when it was revealed that he had abandoned The Movie Critic, which for months was teased as the director’s 10th and final film.
Now including The Movie Critic, here are the most intriguing Tarantino projects that never got made.

Exclusive: International Artists Management (Iam), the London agency that claims to rep stars including Steve Guttenberg and Gary Dourdan, has admitted sending a client misrepresented invites for self-tape auditions in an attempt to secure him work.
Mark Barrett, whose credits include Outlander, has blown the whistle on his former agent, gathering evidence showing that he was emailed at least six illegitimate self-tape invites between February 2022 and January 2024. In five of the purported invites, Iam appeared to change the wording of emails from casting directors to make it seem as if they had requested Barrett to tape for a role when in fact he had not been called to audition.
Barrett accused Iam of giving him false hope after he received the purported invites to audition for major roles in films and TV shows, including Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series The Gentlemen and BBC drama Shetland. He invested time and effort into recording the tapes,...

Scalper doesn’t tell a particularly original story but it doesn’t really need to because it is definitely going for a modern take on the eighties slasher. In the movie we discover that everyone around the psychic Clementine Carter (Susan Priver) is being murdered by a masked killer dubbed ‘The Scalper’. She must use her psychic abilities (and occasional help from the police) to work out if this is a copycat killer or the murderer Andrew Lubitz back from the dead.
Scalper goes right for it with its pretty unpleasant and brutal first scene. We watch a man get stabbed from behind, and then repeatedly stabbed in the ass, until he is very close to death, at which point the killer uses the same knife to...

If you look at Samuel L. Jackson's IMDb page, you will see a list of credits in the hundreds. For decades, Jackson has gradually become one of the most successful actors in Hollywood, appearing in movies of all genres at all budget levels in roles of all sizes. He's created a litany of indelible characters that make him someone so many actors — particularly Black actors — want to mold their careers after. Even if he has a dynamite screen persona he can tap into whenever he wishes, Jackson is one of the most versatile actors working, and though he's currently in his mid-70s, he shows no signs of slowing down.
Despite all the credits, there will be one role mentioned in the headline for his obituary when he eventually passes on hopefully many, many years from now. That role is Jules Winnfield in Quentin Tarantino's blockbuster sophomore feature "Pulp Fiction.

Vienna-based Autlook has boarded sales on the Danish docu project “Architecture as Invention” in which seasoned doc filmmaker Michael Madsen shares existential and creative conversations with U.S./Polish star architect Daniel Libeskind.
The IDFA Forum Pitch entry is Autlook Film Sales’ third Madsen doc pick-up after his multi-awarded “Into Eternity,” IDFA Green Screen Doc winner in 2010, and Sundance 2015 selected “The Visit.”
“Michael Madsen’s distinguished approach to themes and grand ideas creates films that endure; they are timeless and iconic, always speaking for humanity, much like the architecture of one of the greatest architects of our time, Daniel Libeskind,” said Autlook CEO Salma Abdalla.
A trained architect himself, Madsen has an intimate knowledge of the discipline, explored diversely in his earlier works “Into Eternity,” which delved into the construction of a nuclear waste bunker in Finland, and the 26-minute “Halden Prison,” part of the Wim Wenders-initiated “Cathedrals of Culture.

Quentin Tarantino had a single epic film in mind when he set out to create what became Kill Bill: Vol. 1 and its follow-up.
The lead character of the Bride originated in conversations between Tarantino and star Uma Thurman during their first collaboration in 1993. “I came up with the idea of doing Kill Bill on the set of Pulp Fiction with Uma,” Tarantino told The Hollywood Reporter in 2003. “‘Bang Bang’ set to Uma for the opening credits was in my mind [back then],” the director said of using Cher’s song “Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)” to open the film, although he later opted for the Nancy Sinatra cover.
Kill Bill: Vol. 1 centers on Thurman’s erstwhile assassin seeking revenge against her former team and their leader, Bill (David Carradine), after they tried to kill her and her unborn child on her wedding day. Tarantino envisioned Warren Beatty for...

Quentin Tarantino is no stranger to leaked screenplays. "Kill Bill," "Death Proof," "Inglourious Basterds" and "Django Unchained" were all widely available on the internet before they went into production. And Tarantino didn't mind because they were basically finished drafts. He was proud of them. Why not let fans take a look under the hood? There was no way they were going to finish those scripts and opt out of seeing the final product.
The leak of "The Hateful Eight" screenplay was a completely different matter. When the script began circulating online in January 2014, Tarantino, to put it mildly, flipped the hell out. He'd been caught off-guard and betrayed, and was aggrieved enough over the whole incident to threaten legal action. He gave interviews where he all but put a bounty out on the culprit. It was a Hollywood whodunnit, one that entertainment websites gleefully played into. But make no mistake: Tarantino wasn't joking around.

There were classic Gen X movies before 1994, but none of these films came close to capturing the pop-culture mad, video-store zeitgeist of this cohort like Quentin Tarantino's "Pulp Fiction." The precociously talented writer-director appropriated the tough-talking, cold-around-the-heart aesthetic of classic crime fiction and made his killers talk like twentysomethings waxing stoned on cinema, music and syndicated television shows. Tarantino hit a sweet spot most moviegoers didn't know they possessed, and like anyone who catches the highest of highs, they wanted more of what he was pushing.
Almost 30 years later, Tarantino has refused to give his fans what they think they want -- which is odd since he's the one who's filled their heads with the potential of sequels and spinoffs to his first two movies. But Tarantino, who has worked steadily if not prolifically over 31 years (nine movies with his tenth and apparently final feature coming in "The Movie Critic...

Acting can take stars into some perilous situations, but it’s just for show — right? It might be easy to imagine that the magic of editing, the existence of stunt doubles, and other efforts to make sets safe for the cast and crew would prevent most injuries, but that’s unfortunately not the case.
While some injuries are simply accidents, others are a bit more shocking in nature. That’s true for Diane Kruger’s strangulation scene in Inglourious Basterds. If it looked realistic, that’s because it was actually happening!
‘Inglourious Basterds’ received rave reviews
By the time that Inglourious Basterds hit theaters in 2009, Quentin Tarantino was already known as one of Hollywood’s most successful (if also one of its quirkiest and most intense) directors and writers. The 1990s were famous for Alien Invasion films. Independence Day, The X-Files Movie, Alien 3 and Mars Attacks all come to mind. Yes, those are all great but what about Roger Donaldson’s classic 1995 creature feature Species (watch it Here)? Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the beautiful Natasha Henstridge and this being her first acting role. She’s an absolute terror and force to be reckoned with here. There are good actors with bad scripts and then there are horrible actors with even worse scripts. More than half of the cast in Aaron Strey’s atrocious ‘horror’ movie The Wraith Within fall in the latter section. The only actor who seems moderately capable of delivering the horrendously bad lines is “Species” veteran Michael Madsen, although it seems the better days of his career are ancient history. Overweight and sickly, Madsen tries his best on a minuscule budget, and terrible direction, while his cast members try outperforming each other in who can be the worse actor in this Dollar Tree Evil Dead flick. This is one such movie that we can’t even recommend for a C-list marathon with your friends, and this is one dumpster fire you should avoid. Go through the breakdown of this sordid excuse for a horror film and decide why The Wraith Within is best skipped.

There are few modern filmmakers with a voice as distinctive as Quentin Tarantino’s, a former video-store clerk who transformed his movie love into blockbuster, arthouse, genre-redefining masterpieces that kept grindhouse cinema alive while pushing nostalgia in bold directions.
With a career spanning 27 years and ten feature films (depending on how you count), Tarantino has made an indelible mark on cinema. And his hard-hitting, playful directorial style has, in all that time, made good films great, great films classics, and the faults in bad films sometimes harder to recognize.
Here, then, are Quentin Tarantino’s films from “Reservoir Dogs” to “Once Upon a Time in … Hollywood,” ranked from the very worst to the very, very best:
10. “Once Upon a Time in … Hollywood” (2019)

Have you ever had a vacation so iconic that people are still talking about it over two centuries later? Mary Shelley sure did, with her infamous getaway alongside Percy Shelley, John Polidori, Claire Clairmont and their host Lord Byron resulting in some of the most influential genre fiction of all time. And while Byron’s Darkness and Polidori’s The Vampyre have their merits, it’s pretty clear that Frankenstein remains the most enduring product of that fateful literary holiday.
That’s why it’s no surprise that we’re still seeing fresh adaptations of The Modern Prometheus well into 2023, with Yorgo Lanthimos’ Frankenstein inspired Poor Things proving that there are still new ways of exploring the tragic horror of Shelley’s immortal yarn. And with so many great adaptations to choose from, we’ve decided to come up with a list celebrating six of the best modern Frankenstein retellings for your viewing pleasure.

Callie Khouri’s feminist crime classic is a masterclass in narrative and character development and director Ridley Scott delivers pure action brio
Screenwriter Callie Khouri’s desperada road-movie thriller Thelma & Louise is the classic whose Bechdel test credentials go all the way up to the title. Just over 30 years later, it looks punchier, bolder, hotter and sweatier than ever. This is a masterclass in narrative construction and character development and director Ridley Scott puts his pedal to the metal with pure action brio; I always particularly love the shot where the camera lovingly counter-swooshes back along the flank of the Thunderbird while it barrels down the highway, for the pure hell of it. It is a feminist crime classic in the tradition of Gun Crazy and Bonnie and Clyde, whose two heroines, played by Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon, get the Polaroid camera out for the most famous selfie in film history.

As a filmmaker, Ridley Scott has always been somewhat reticent to embrace the urgency of the contemporary moment. Though he’s never less than competent in terms of form and as a director of actors, Scott remains to this day a genre-driven stylist and a lover of the physical design, cultural symbols, and lingo that characterize a specific era. Scott’s best films called for immense design work, the crafting of vehicles and creatures, and the imagining of a culture far removed from our current standings; Gladiator and The Duellists bloomed largely due to exhaustive detailing and accuracy of historical costume design, if not historical events exactly.
Life in the present boxes Scott in creatively, as he’s in a way required to show us a world we will recognize as the same one that we will see when we exit the theater. That world doesn’t bore Scott necessarily,...

Quentin Tarantino got the stagecoach wheels rolling on The Hateful Eight when he announced it less than one year after Django Unchained hit theaters. In fact, the announcement wasn’t the only thing that was close. The Hateful Eight actually started as a sequel to Django, with parts of it stemming from an abandoned novelization of his revisionist western.
For this western, Tarantino would use western TV show tropes–chiefly the bottle episodes where a band of vigilantes took the lead hostage–as a launching point. He thought, “What if I did a movie starring nothing but those characters? No heroes…Just a bunch of nefarious guys in a room, all telling backstories that may or may not be true. Trap those guys together in a room with a blizzard outside, give them guns, and see what happens.” And what happened was a lot of anger, a lot of snow and a lot of vomit.
