Notes
- The Critics Circle was started in 1913 as an association for working British critics. It is the only group of its kind in the UK, has nearly 300 members and consists of four sections - drama, music, film and dance. (as of 2002)
- The film section has more than 80 members. To become a member of the Circle one must have worked as a film critic on a British publication for at least a year, with most of the income earned from writing about film.
- The awards are held in aid of the NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children).
