- At a Los Angeles beach, a team of lifeguards led by Lieutenant Mitch Buchannon save lives, deal with personal dramas, fight crime and participate in over the top adventures on a daily basis.
- Baywatch veteran Mitch Buchannon moonlights as a P.I. with his two friends Garner and Ryan. In season 2, Diamont replaces Garner, and Mitch's cases suddenly take a hard turn towards supernatural horror.
- Baywatch lifeguards Mitch, C.J., Stephanie, Caroline, Matt and Logan travel to Ohau, Hawaii for a much needed vacation and get caught up in a series of mis-adventures. Stephanie teams up with a local lifeguard while a bumbling photographer, named Carlton with an incredible amount of bad luck, causes problems for everyone when the bad luck rubs off on some of them. Meanwhile, Logan becomes obsessed with competing in a surfing competition and leaving no time with Caroline. When C.J. is unexpectedly called back to Baywatch, Mitch and Matt take a boat trip to a remote part of Kauai where they get stranded after Matt gets stung by a poisonous scorpion fish, and they end up in a remote village of local Hawaiians gone native.
- In this wrap-up to the 1997-98 season of Baywatch, L.A. lifeguards Mitch, Cody, and Mitch's son Hobie win a free ocean cruise to Alaska where coincidently lifeguards Neely, Lani and Donna are also along for a photo shoot. Hobie unknowlingly brings along a certain Claire Hodges, who's real name is Leslie Stryker, a professional jewel thief and con artist seeking a way to escape into Alaska with $5 million of stolen emeralds while a ruthless hitman, named Gavin, pursues her.
- Mitch Buchannon, Hobie, Eddie and Shauni travel to northern California's rugged gold country, with C.J. as their guide, to investigate the death of Mitch's prospector uncle where they find an old treasure map leading to a valuable gold nugget along a rough river. Back at Baywatch, two new recruits show up for rookie training season who are the wealthy and spoiled teen Matt Brody, and lower class swim champion Summer Quinn who moves to California with her divorced single mother looking to escape from an abusive past.
- Sean tries to keep his blossoming relationship with Jenna a secret to avoid upset and criticism from the rest of the team when he attends a lifeguard conference on Maui to speak about the dangers of drowning where Jenna, Allie, Kekoa, Dawn, and Jason are in attendance. Here Sean's fears and desires are revealed when during a rescue of a group of swimmers trapped in a filtration tube, Jenna is sucked down a shaft and Sean risks everything to save her.
- During a long day when Sean takes Jenna out on a Scarab motorboat when after a rescue of a injured young boy from a offshore reef, Sean reveals a secret to Jenna that could threaten his position when he tells her about his own son, that no one knows about, who drowned years ago which ruined his life and paved his way to becoming a lifeguard. Meanwhile, Allie and Jason take out her helicopter for the day to the big island of Hawaii first to escort a wealthy lady and her young daughter to a resort, then to aid four people trapped on a lava reef where one man goes into a diabetic seizure and only a Coast Guard aircraft flying overhead can support them.
- Mitch finds himself on the wrong side of the law when he becomes reacquainted with Tanner, the abused nine-year-old boy, whom he snatches away from his abusive father, Blake, and lets the boy stay at his house while Alex becomes Mitch's co-conspirator in helping Tanner. Meanwhile, Jessie has a secret admirer that turns out of be a stunt pilot who is apparently sending her expensive gifts to her lifeguard tower, much to J.D. indifference. Also, Alex has other troubles when several swimmers show signs of food poisoning.
- Mitch is asked by a government agent to investigate a certain Zack Martin, a former Navy SEAL who may be part of an environmental terrorist group called "Green Scorpion" who are planing to blow up an unknown target. Mitch then goes out on a diving boat trip with Zack and his girlfriend Bree Hanford, who in fact is actually the leader of the group whose target in an offshore reef covered with sunken World War II navy ships loaded with unexploded munitions to blow it and the reef up. Meanwhile, Sean thinks Mitch's strange behavior is that he may be in trouble, and after Baywatch Hawaii training center is broken into in the night by Green Scorpion terrorists, this leads Sean and the rest of the team, Allie, Jason, J.D. and Kekoa to find Mitch before they're too late.
- Mitch helps Jessie try to prevent her World War II veteran grandfather from committing suicide who was a survivor from the USS Utah at Pearl Harbor and who harbors a guilt over surviving when many of his friends didn't on December 7, 1941. Meanwhile, Sean tries to help Kekola's friend, Jemal, a competitive basketball player, to make the University of Honolulu swim team as a potential athlete for the next Olympic swim team. Also, J.D. and Jason have their own hands full in dealing with various bikini clad women in crisis.
- Jessie tries to overcome her physical condition, and Sean's objections, to compete in a Maui triathlon with Dawn as her personal coach while Allie suspects an agenda behind Dawn's motives to train Jessie. Meanwhile, Jason, with Kekola's help, seeks out a mysterious Hawaiian spirit who inhabits the underwater surf and who lures people to their deaths.
- After narrowly escaping death at the hands of two local redneck dregs, Drew and Lonny, who are perusing them for the gold, Mitch, Eddie, Shauni, Hobie and C.J. try to track down the infamous "Gold Boot" buried along the river which leads to a dangerous underwater cave. Unable to bear being away from Shauni after she has a pregnancy scare, Eddie proposes marriage to her as well as a life away from Baywatch, and she accepts. Back at Baywatch, Jackie Quinn's abusive and obsessive boyfriend, Jed, follows her and Summer to California and tries to ram their trailer off a cliff. But Matt arrives and saves them just in time, leading to a romantic meeting-of-minds for Summer and Matt.
- Teague leads Mitch and Ryan to a haunted restaurant where several women have been killed and a man left in a coma after a mysterious going on. When Ryan herself disappears, Mitch enlists the help of a psychic to search for her.
- Frances Sandreen, a cosmetic mogul, hires Mitch, Garner and Ryan to investigate her son Todd's involvement with a band of roller-skating burglars that have been robbing people's apartments and slipping away at night.
- A mysterious desert wind drives into Baywatch which make several people go insane from an evil force. Mitch and Ryan then venture into the Santa Ana desert where they try to find the source of the evil which the winds carry and discover it to be the result of a satanic worshiper living in the desert.
- Baywatch lifeguard Mitch Bucannon and L.A. policeman Sgt. Garner Ellerbee begin moonlighting as private investigators for a small detective agency owned by Ryan McBride, which is located above a nightclub called "Nights" owned by Lou Raymond. Mitch and Garner's first job comes when they are hired as bodyguards for Cassidy, a fashion model, who claims that she is being stalked by a madman.
- Mitch and Ryan investigate the disappearance of Teague with the help of a man who claims to have been tracking aliens for several years and knows that they are here on Earth, planning world domination.
- After Mitch saves a young girl from drowning, he discovers her to be possessed by a demon who then possesses him for the demon needs a sacrifice to solidify its base of power on Earth. Aware that time is running out for him, Mitch must venture into the netherworld to find help from the only one who can battle the demon: the recently deceased Stephanie Holden.
- On a day off, Ryan drags Mitch to a fortune-telling booth at the Malibu pier, where an Indian guide sends them into an eerie tunnel from which Mitch and Ryan emerge 20 years in the future to watch helplessly at their future lives.
