Aquaman (2018)
It's a movie not a documentary!
Reviewers complaining about humans being able to breathe/live in Atlantis at that pressure etc are forgetting the basic premise that this is a superhero movie, not a documentary! This is a good superhero movie, Jason Momoa providing a solid performance as the action hero with a conscience, punctuated nicely with dry humour, with great backup from Willem Dafoe, Nicole Kidman, Amber Heard and even Dolf Lundgren. Plenty of action sequences, and enough character development to care about the principal characters. I went into this movie with low expectations and was pleasantly very surprised. Give it a try, it's well worth it.
Legends of the Deep: Bermuda Triangle: The Secret Shipwreck (2019)
Overhyped but pretty
This documentary starts off well with potential clues to enable them to find a shipwreck. There is obviously credit given to the lead characters because of their famous grandfather Jacques Cousteau, but sadly this does not guarantee a good program. They follow the "clues" but it never really leads to anything, just lots of potential "may-be"s, with the divers frequently commenting on how the supposedy ship-shaped coral is 'amazing' but it is still only coral. They claim to see shapes in the sand/coral that 'could' be a mast or a hull, but each time it is just coral. This whole program is a waste of time as far as finding wrecks, but does show how pretty Bermuda is.
Griff's Canadian Adventure (2022)
Interesting series
Perhaps the reviewers giving low ratings already knew much about Canada or maybe they just do not like Griff Rhys Jones. I did not know much about Canada, and found this series to be interesting and entertaining, learning many new things about this beautiful country. Of course Griff offers his own perspective on some things, it would be very difficult to remain completely neutral, but I found his musings to be funny enough without detracting from the program. I especially liked the polar bear viewing from tundra trucks in episode 4/Manitoba. Well worth a watch for an interesting introduction to Canada.
Secrets of the Bermuda Triangle: Part 3 (2018)
No new answers.
Finally this series touches on something specific to the Bermuda triangle - localised weather/ hurricanes, and a theory about magnetic rock possibly affecting compasses.
However this series has been mostly generalisations or repeated old information.
Just an attempt to make yet another series about the Bermuda triangle without any real new information.
Secrets of the Bermuda Triangle: Part 2 (2018)
Nothing new here
This episode does at least reference a genuine "Bermuda triangle disappearance" - Flight 19, in 1945, five TBM Avengers on a USNavy training flight disappeared, but it is just repeating what has already been covered in dozens of documentaries - nothing new here.
However when they use flying simulations and then a flying lesson to demonstrate how things can go wrong, this is shown very accurately. As a licenced private pilot I can attest to the accuracy of this segment. Although of some interest, it is still not specifically about the Bermuda triangle.
Unnecessary infomation about Captain Morgan - nothing specific to the mystery of the Bermuda triangle.
Some vaguely interesting information about air crash investigation, and about mirages at sea, but still nothing specifically about the Bermuda triangle itself.
No great revelations or answers about the actual Bermuda triangle mystery.
Another documentary that goes nowhere.
Secrets of the Bermuda Triangle: Part 1 (2018)
Nothing unusual happening here
Spoiler alert:
This episode firstly covers the disappearance of the Cyclops - which was heavily loaded with an unfamiliar cargo while it had only one of its two engines working. No surprise that this might easily have capsized - nothing to do with the location being the Bermuda triangle.
Secondly we have an almost amateur boatman attempting a solo voyage from Miami to Nassau in an untested boat, while not paying attention to his compass, so not surprisingly he got off course and spent 10 days adrift before being found. Again nothing to do with being in the Bermuda triangle, this kind of seafaring accident could happen anywhere. So far this series about the Bermuda triangle has not dealt with anything specifically about the Bermuda triangle or the unusual disappearances there. Just another overhyped under-facted mystery series.
Expedition Unknown: Atlantis of the Andes (2019)
Interesting but....
Josh Gates does investigate some genuinely interesting subjects but what spoils it for me is when things are hyped up or even faked for effect. For example, during the dive at the end of the program Josh is having a conversation with Marcial, but while Josh is wearing a full face mask that could contain communications kit, Marcial has a standard diving regulator in his mouth and so would not have been able to speak. The "conversation" must have been dubbed in afterwards. Come on Josh, keep it real, or you'll lose any credibility that you had. Otherwise, an interesting introduction to the fabled sunken city of the Tiwanaku people.
