Mads Mikkelsen...Cillian Murphy...Giancarlo Esposito...by now, we know you've seen the same old names suggested for the McU's Doctor Doom time and time again.
With The Fantastic Four fast approaching and rumours swirling that the Latverian dictator will appear in a post-credits scene, all signs point to us meeting the new Victor Von Doom as soon as next year. However, none of the popular decisions listed above seem like a perfect fit to us.
In this feature, we've rounded up several alternative suggestions who would each be suitably terrifying and formidable as the McU's Doom. Crucially, they're not the names you'd necessarily expect to see.
To find out who we think could square off with Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, and The Thing as a villain capable of being the next Saga's big bad, click on the "Next"/"View List" buttons below.

Not that long ago, we confirmed that Peter Jackson was indeed coming back to The Lord of the Rings franchise, but as a producer, and that a new movie had been confirmed for a 2026 release. The movie was soon revealed to be The Hunt for Gollum, and we also received confirmation that Andy Serkis would be coming back to the role that made him famous, but that he would also be directing the movie as well. This is all part of a larger plan to revitalize The Lord of the Rings cinematic franchise and expand upon the original movies directed by Jackson.
So, a return to Middle-earth is imminent and we cannot wait for the movie to come out, but since we still have a long way to go, we don’t have too much information at this point. But, while nothing has been confirmed, one actor from Jackson’s...

As updates keep coming for the film, Viggo Mortensen revealed that he would consider returning to his character on a few conditions.

Sauron’s rise in Season 2 of “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” will begin August 29 when the new installment of Amazon Prime Video’s fantasy series based on J.R.R. Tolkien IP arrives on the streamer. Prime Video released a teaser trailer and behind-the-scenes featurette Monday. Based on parts of Tolkien’s posthumous “The Silmarillion,” the series has a planned arc of five seasons.
What is ‘Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Season 2 about?
The drama series takes place thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” books with an ensemble cast of familiar faces mixed with new characters. Set in the not-for-long peaceful Second Age of Middle Earth, the show marks a first-time venture into the adaptation of Tolkein’s history of the fabled period. Villain Sauron (Charlie Vickers) will be “out and about...

Big news just dropped over at Vanity Fair: a first look at a character set to appear in The Rings of Power season 2 who has to date only made it into a few older radio versions, games, and foreign-language adaptations of The Lord of the Rings—Tom Bombadil, played by Rory Kinnear. Tom’s first live-action appearance is obviously a huge deal for The Rings of Power season 2 and Lord of the Rings fandom as a whole, especially because Peter Jackson chose to not include the beloved Tolkien character in his film trilogy, but how will he fit into the story of the Second Age of Middle-earth?
What Is Tom Bombadil’s Role in The Lord of the Rings and Why Isn’t He in the Movies?

Peter Jackson’s King Kong was the ninth entry in the King Kong franchise. The film remains Jackson’s only monster movie and he didn’t return to direct a sequel film. But he was interested to see a sequel of the film from one director who has a lifelong fascination with monsters. Jackson thought it would be great if Guillermo del Toro helmed the sequel, after hearing rumors of it at San Diego Comic-Con in 2014.

However, the sequel eventually went nowhere and WB rebooted the franchise with Kong: Skull Island in 2017. Del Toro’s work includes films like Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy, and Pacific Rim. He had worked with Peter Jackson to write the screenplay of The Hobbit trilogy.

As the driving force behind a blockbuster franchise, Peter Jackson has not only secured a place among some of the most celebrated filmmakers in the industry, but has also made quite a fortune for himself. His journey to Tinseltown has been nothing short of extraordinary, and began with an early start in New Zealand, with multiple short films and cult classics like Bad Taste.

However, his filmmaking journey truly commenced with a 16 mm camera with his two years of savings, which has since transformed into a fortune that now surpasses the combined wealth of two Hollywood giants, Martin Scorsese and James Cameron.

Peter Jackson’s initial fascination with the world of cinema began with the TV series Thunderbirds and the 1933 film King Kong, which led him to experiment with his family’s home camera and stop-motion animation technique.

4 Ways Gollum Shaped the Fate of Middle-earth - Main Image
Love or hate him, the sly and selfish Gollum, is an invaluable character in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Before seeing more of his adventures in The Hunt for Gollum in 2026, let’s look at how he impacted Middle-earth lore and set some key events in motion.
As the Keeper of the Ring
After falling to the power of the One Ring, the hobbit Sméagol becomes Gollum, keeping his “Precious” hidden for almost half a century in the Misty Mountains.
While his only intent was to hang on to the Ring for as long as he could, Gollum had unintentionally protected Middle-earth from the rise of other evil forces since Sauron was still too weak to take the Ring back. Having a will of its own, the Ring could have easily corrupted countless individuals if it were located above ground.

In J.R.R. Tolkien's 1937 adventure novel "The Hobbit, or There and Back Again," Bilbo Baggins and his merry band of stern dwarf friends are apprehended by a marauding group of wicked goblins and dragged into their dank underground lair. The lead dwarf, Thorin Oakenshield, is targeted as a particular threat by the Goblin King as he is carrying a unique sword called Orcrist, the Goblin-Cleaver. Orcrist, according to Tolkien's lore, was forged millennia ago by expert elf swordsmiths, and passed down through generations. It is a magic sword that glows when orcs are nearby, warning its wielder of danger. Later in "The Hobbit," Thorin would lose Orcrist when he was captured by the Wood-elves of Mirkwood -- though it was eventually returned to him.
In Peter Jackson's three "Hobbit" film adaptations -- "An Unexpected Journey" (2012), "The Desolation of Smaug" (2013), and "The Battle of the Five Armies" (2014) -- Thorin was played by Richard Armitage,...

Andy Serkis is one of Hollywood’s finest go-to actors for playing motion-capture roles in films. He played Caesar in the Planet of the Apes trilogy, Gollum in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit films, and the titular character in 2005’s King Kong. However, many fans wouldn’t be aware of his role as a Performance Capture Consultant in Gareth Edwards’ 2014 kaiju film, Godzilla. Serkis explained that it was not a full-on acting role like his other monster roles.

Whether you liked the fact that the short book was divided into three feature-length movies or not, The Hobbit was certainly a special cinematic experience in more ways than one. While it was primarily a rush of nostalgia that took us back to Jackson’s brilliantly crafted world of The Lord of the Rings, it was also an interesting story of its own that expanded the cinematic universe in a good way. Yes, we know that profit played a major role in the structure of these movies, but they turned out well in the end, and they are a worthy prequel to the original trilogy.
Now, many years have passed since the trilogy ended, but the newest issue of Total Film brings us an interesting story related to the film, which involves Richard Armitage, one of the stars of the trilogy, and the sword Orcrist, which was carried by Armitage’s character,...

Even after Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 arrives, there will be more of Middle Earth to explore, particularly through the lens of Gollum’s perspective. Deadline unpacked where the franchise is heading with longtime collaborators Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to make more films based on J.R.R. As The Lord of the Rings franchise continues to expand with the upcoming second season of Prime Video series Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and two new films in the works centering Gollum, it can’t help revisiting New Line’s original trilogy of films based on Tolkien’s trilogy including The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King.
However, if one wishes to view all existing live-action films in chronological order, the three films based on Tolkien’s The Hobbit — An Unexpected Journey, The Desolation of Smaug and The Battle of the Five Armies come first in the timeline of Middle Earth. The trilogy based on The Hobbit came out ten years after the original Lord of the Rings films.

After four decades of filmmaking, Renny Harlin isn’t slowing down in the slightest. The journeyman director, who’s most known for Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger, Deep Blue Sea and A Nightmare on Elm Street 4, is back on the big screen with The Strangers: Chapter 1, the first film in a trilogy that he’s already shot across 52 days in Slovakia.
Chapter 1 stays true to Bryan Bertino’s 2008 horror classic, The Strangers, only it imagines a scenario where an analogue for Liv Tyler’s character definitively survives the central home invasion, setting up Chapter Two and Three. Madelaine Petsch’s Maya is now filling that protagonist role, as her cross-country road trip to Portland results in her and her boyfriend (Froy Gutierrez’s Ryan) having to stay at a small town Airbnb due to car trouble. That’s when the Strangers crawl out of the woodwork to play their patented cat-and-mouse game.

Last week, Warner Bros. announced plans for The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, a new movie set near the beginning of the original trilogy starring and directed by Andy Serkis.
Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh, who wrote the previous movies, are set to pen the screenplay, along with Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou (The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim). Filmmaker Peter Jackson, meanwhile, is producing the project.
In a lengthy interview with Deadline, the latter elaborated on why Gollum's origin story was the right focus for the first of what's expected to be a whole slate of spin-offs.

As the Lord of the Rings franchise has pulled in nearly $6 billion over the course of six movies, it was only natural that Warner Bros. would return to the well. That’s why it didn’t come as a big surprise when it was announced that more Lord of the Rings movies are in development, the first of which will be Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.
In addition to reprising his role as Gollum, Andy Serkis is set to direct The Hunt for Gollum, which will be written by Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens and produced by Peter Jackson. How do you craft an entirely new story about a character that we've seen depicted throughout one of the most famous movie trilogies of all time -- especially when one of those movies already laid out his origin story in its opening 10 minutes? Since I'm not a studio executive desperate to keep one of their biggest cash cows going with the recently-announced "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum" film, I'm in the fortunate position of not having to be the one to provide answers to such burning questions. But for those with much more personal stakes involved in this unexpected new journey, namely producer Peter Jackson and returning star-turned-director Andy Serkis, this conundrum only made them all the more excited to sink their teeth into the IP's biggest live-action project since "The Hobbit" trilogy.

Exclusive: Since Warner Bros acquired rights to make more Middle-earth films based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s works and the canon established by New Line’s original trilogy, Peter Jackson and his Lord of the Rings cohorts Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens hovered over the proceedings for a long time, as they mulled how to return, and much to involve themselves into another deep dive into Tolkien mythology.
As a business proposition, the allure is easy to understand: the two trilogies – the six Lotr and The Hobbit films — generated nearly $6 billion in worldwide grosses and enough Oscar gold to fill the lair of the dragon Smaug from 2012’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
Go back 23 years, and the road was far more perilous when New Line founder Bob Shaye greenlit three Lotr movies that Jackson shot one after the other in New Zealand. One of the biggest gambles in film history,...

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, a prequel to the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogy, started airing on Prime Video in 2022. The series got a lot of flak from fans because of poor writing as well as because of the speed at which the story unfolded. Many found it to be lacking because most people were unable to connect with the characters or the story itself.

Dragons play a prominent role in many fantasy stories from The Hobbit to A Song of Ice and Fire to Dungeons & Dragons. They’re not as central to the plot of The Witcher, but they do help the main characters come to terms with their destiny in both the books by author Andrzej Sapkowski and the Netflix adaptation. Dragons are complicated creatures, so we’ll break down everything that’s been revealed about them.
Be warned: Spoilers for The Witcher are ahead.
What are the different types of dragons?
Gold dragons are so rare that most consider them a myth. Gold dragons, like witchers, are mutants and cannot reproduce naturally. However, they are shapeshifters, which allows them to walk freely among humans.
Green dragons are the most common, followed by red, black and white. Those names are somewhat misleading. Green dragons are actually greyish, red dragons are brick-red and...

Whether you liked it or not, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power became a hit series for Amazon, and it was expected that the series would be renewed for a second season. The series explored the era of Tolkien’s world before the main series, as well as the story of The Hobbit, expanding the universe we’ve already explored earlier. Now, some of the fans weren’t happy with the series in general, but the series has done fairly well and we are now waiting to see where it heads in the upcoming season. The second season will premiere later this year, and Amazon is slowly heating up for the upcoming premiere, which is what we are going to do with this report as well.

The rings are once more forged in fire for “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Season 2.
The hit Prime Video series, which made history on the streaming platform upon its debut, is welcoming a familiar face back to the Middle-Earth for its second installment. Charlie Vickers is back as the villainous Sauron, but this time, he’s in a new form to deceive those who try to unite the Second Age realm.
After being cast out by Galadriel, without army or ally, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-Earth to his sinister will, the official synopsis teased.

Prime Video has announced that we will get our first look at some footage from the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power tomorrow when the first teaser trailer is released online.
Production has been underway since late 2022 at Bray Studios, just outside London. Season 1 was shot in New Zealand, but the decision was made to change-up location because The UK is "considered more economical and is also where the company is establishing a multi-show hub."
The first season concluded with the reveal that the seemingly benevolent Halbrand was actually Sauron all along. The Dark Lord offered Galadriel the chance to join him once his ruse was discovered, and when she refused, he fled back to the Southlands (soon to be known as Mordor).
It was also heavily implied that "The Stranger" was really Gandalf, but this is yet to be confirmed by actor Daniel Weyman or the showrunners.

Peter Jackson has a wide range of successful projects under his name, from blockbuster franchises like The Lord of the Rings to cult classics like Meet the Feebles and Dead Alive. And his journey to becoming one of the most proficient filmmakers in the industry began with the 1987 film Bad Taste, which paved the way for his illustrious career in the film industry.

The film has since become a cult classic known for its over-the-top gore and dark humor. However, it faced significant challenges during production, particularly due to limited resources. In order to realize his vision, Jackson found himself compelled to employ unconventional methods to secure funding.

Viggo Mortensen will forever be synonymous with his role in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The actor played the role of Aragorn in all three films and was the sworn protector of Frodo and Sam in their journey from the Shire to Mount Doom. The actor won the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast In A Motion Picture for The Return of the King.
While the final film in the trilogy made history for being the first fantasy film to win Best Picture at the Oscars, Mortensen seemed to have a less-than-stellar opinion about the movie. He mentioned how the last two films leaned more towards CGI and visual effects as opposed to the practical effects of The Fellowship of the Ring, which seemed to have carried over to Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy.

It was 1957 when screenwriter Morton Grady Zimmerman approached J.R.R. Tolkien on the subject of creating an animated film out of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The famed British author expressed all of his sentiments and criticisms about the script in a series of letters.

It turns out, he was not fond of the interpretation of his books in the said script. He also accused Zimmerman of never reading the books, only skimming through them, and composing the screenplay based on the fragments he remembered from the novels.

The second half of the British Emmys — the BAFTA TV Awards — are about to kick off. The first segment took place at the end of April when the BAFTA TV Craft Awards gave out gongs for below-the-line artists nominated for their work in this year’s best TV shows. Now, the main ceremony is taking place. This one is where all the big stars rock up as the acting categories are presented tonight in what is a live, televised ceremony broadcast from the Royal Festival Hall on London’s South Bank.

Props, then, must go to “The Hobbit” star Richard Armitage, who dons a pink velvet suit jacket. Velvet is a brave choice in such hot weather but he looks dashing as anything.

Did you see that plot twist coming, Precious? Warner Bros. Discovery recently announced the news that we'll be returning to Middle-earth in a new movie about Gollum, everybody's favorite fish-eating gremlin, tentatively titled "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum." Despite the usual excitement that follows any developments about such popular material, it's fair to say that the collective reaction to this reveal mostly amounted to: "...Him?" Compared to the likes of the classic "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy and the widely-panned "The Hobbit" movies, the animated "The War of the Rohirrim" film, and even Prime Video's "The Rings of Power" show, a prequel following an awfully brief chapter in the centuries-spanning life of pathetic ol' Sméagol, of all characters, doesn't quite conjure up the same images of epic storytelling and sweeping adventures fans have come to expect from their beloved franchise. It certainly helps that actor...

Peter Jackson clearly changed the whole movie adaptation game with his Middle-earth trilogy, based on J. R. R. Tolkien’s fantasy novel. It is still considered the best adaptation ever filmed, as it satisfied even the most demanding fans of the original, unlike the subsequent Lotr movies and shows.
The Hobbit trilogy and The Rings of Power only raised questions regarding the necessity of such adaptations. While the next take on Tolkien’s universe, The War of the Rohirrim, is scheduled to be released this year, we receive another questionable update.

A new Lord of the Rings spin-off movie has been announced, and it’s getting the old gang back together; the producers/writers of both film trilogies, Peter Jackson, Phillipa Boyens, and Fran Walsh will be producing once more, and directing duties will be taken over from Jackson by Andy Serkis, who played Gollum in both trilogies and who was also second unit director on The Hobbit films. Since then, he has directed three movies so he is well prepared to take on this one.
Serkis will also star in his original role of Smeagol/Gollum, and the film is currently tentatively titled The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. If that title means what we think it means, it could be a really exciting prospect.

Andy Serkis gained critical acclaim for his role as Gollum in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Serkis made a name for himself in motion capture soon after he did the role of Gollum. While the actor was praised for his incredible performance in the role, he was not admired by all.
Andy Serkis shared that there were many people including some older actors from the industry who mocked him when the first movie in the Lotr trilogy came out.
Andy Serkis as Gollum
The role of Gollum changed the world of CGI and motion capture forever. It led Serkis to more motion capture performances like King Kong and Caesar in The Planet of the Apes reboot trilogy. However, it is sad that the actor initially turned into a joke when Gollum first appeared in 2001’s The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.
