Uma Thurman has been to Cannes more times than she can remember, either to pledge support for the glamorous annual charity event amfAR or with films as diverse as the genteel Merchant-Ivory period film The Golden Bowl (2000) and Quentin Tarantino’s ultraviolent Kill Bill: Volume 2 (2004), in which she reprised her badass role as The Bride. The film that propelled her to stardom, Pulp Fiction, won the Palme d’Or there, and Thurman hasn’t forgotten what it did for her. This year, she’s back with Paul Schrader’s Oh, Canada, the kind of smart, character-based indie on which she earned her spurs.
Deadline: How did you get involved with Oh, Canada?
Uma Thurman: Really, I just got the call through my agents to read a Paul Schrader script and meet with him. I’m so glad I did. I love Paul Schrader.
Deadline: Did you know him already?...

Kevin Costner would often like to imagine himself as a one-man army, if possible, who is capable of handling almost every single hurdle and blockade thrown in his direction with utmost precision and decisiveness. This character trait may also be the reason why the Hollywood actor makes choices bold enough to surpass even Quentin Tarantino when it comes to sequel treatment in films.

Where one might look to find Kill Bill Vol. 2, Jaws 2, and Back to the Future Part II, Kevin Costner stands firm on the prospect of sequels insomuch that he would not even dare to touch his Oscar-winning property, Dances With Wolves, that he himself directed, produced, and starred in.

Lynda Carter is paying tribute and honoring the late Jeannie Epper, the Wonder Woman stunt performer.
Epper died on Sunday at the age of 83. She performed stunts in the 1970s Wonder Woman TV series and films like The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and Kill Bill: Vol. 2.
“I have a lot to say about Jeannie Epper. Most of all, I loved her. I always felt that we understood and appreciated one another,” Carter wrote in a message posted on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “After all, it was the 70s. We were united in the way that women had to be in order to thrive in a man’s world, through mutual respect, intellect and collaboration.”
Carter continued, “Jeannie was a vanguard who paved the way for all other stuntwomen who came after. Just as Diana was Wonder Woman, Jeannie Epper was also a Wonder Woman.

Quentin Tarantino does not view Kill Bill as two separate films. That should be acknowledged upfront as fair. After all, it is this detail which allows Tarantino the ability to claim Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood as his ninth instead of 10th film (thereby delaying any obligatory early retirements). And to be sure, Tarantino shot Kill Bill as one epic vision that was only encouraged to be broken up by, ahem, Harvey Weinstein while Tarantino was finishing up principal photography.
So while the story was released as Kill Bill: Vol. 1 and Kill Bill: Vol. 2, they’re two sides of the same tale. Be that as it may, there’s no denying that they’re two incredibly different sides. Whether a creative choice made in post-production after realizing he had hours more of running time to play with, or because the filmmaker was already at his most indulgent...

In “Boy Kills World,” Bill Skarsgård has burning eyes and model cheekbones, sinewy arms popping out of a dirty red athletic vest, and a feral pout that makes him look like Jean-Claude Van Damme crossed with Lou Reed. He plays a deaf-mute avenger, known only as Boy, who kills people in insanely violent ways. Yet through it all, the character retains his innocence. He’s a wounded wild child in a man’s body.
Raised in a mountain hideaway by a martial-arts trainer and resistance fighter called the Shaman (Yayan Ruhian), who may remind you, at first, of the Zen master in “Kill Bill: Volume 2,” Boy had his past taken away from him by a vicious totalitarian regime. Samuel L. Jackson is an acting legend who has starred in numerous movies of all genres. Among his major movies are School Daze (1988), Do the Right Thing (1989), Mo’ Better Blues (1990), Jungle Fever (1991), Oldboy (2013), and Chi-Raq (2015), Tarantino’s films Jackie Brown (1997), Kill Bill: Volume 2 (2004), Django Unchained (2012), and The Hateful Eight (2015), but he also has two extremely popular roles in his filmography – that of Nick Fury in the MCU, as well as that of Mace Windu in the Star Wars franchise.
We know that Mace Windu died in The Revenge of the Sith, but the character had already been a fan favorite by that moment and since then, there have been numerous calls for Windu to return to the series, implying that the character did not die during the fated battle against Palpatine. Samuel L. Jackson was recently asked about it and he made his opinion on the matter quite clear.

Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill films are considered cult classics and amongst the director’s most iconic works. While the two parts of the blood-soaked revenge drama were filmed together, they were released within 6 months of each other owing to the filmmaker’s reluctance to fit the narrative into one film.
Uma Thurman in Kill Bill
Kill Bill: Volume 2 completed 20 years on April 16th, and was a fitting finale to the saga of The Bride played to perfection by Uma Thurman. In an interview a few years ago, Tarantino had a discussion with his lead star and spoke about the scenes he would have hypothetically cut off if he had decided to condense his story into just one film.
Quentin Tarantino Would Have Done Away With This Scene In His Cult Classic
Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill series worked magically thanks to the director’s decision to execute the revenge saga over two films.

At first, I was shocked by the news that Participant Media was dying. Such an appealing company. Smart. Mindful. Vibrant. Forward-thinking. The producer of intelligent films like Spotlight and Green Book, with a distinctly progressive message.
How could this be?
Then it finally hit me. Whatever else may have happened—announcing the shutdown, proprietor Jeff Skoll cited “revolutionary” changes in the entertainment business—Participant went under, I believe, because most of high-end Hollywood jumped into the company’s basically sound but modestly sized boat. The purpose-film niche was swamped.
It’s almost hard to remember that 20 years ago, when Participant was founded, the notion of a self-consciously message-oriented, activist film company was actually novel.
But, cinematically speaking, it was a much different world in 2004. The top movie that year was Shrek 2—not much message there. Culturally, the big story was a religious film, The Passion of the Christ. That hasn’t happened since.

Quentin Tarantino loves film. Few filmmakers can boast such a wide knowledge of movies, especially the B-films and grindhouse works that have inspired his greatest cinematic accomplishments. Tarantino also loves to talk about future projects. Put those two passions together and you get a guy who often teases movies he never actually ends up making.
Of course, it’s not always talk. Many of his best movies, including Kill Bill and Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood started as ideas that he blabbed about to anyone who would listen. But while that approach builds excitement, it also sets up fans for disappointment, such as when it was revealed that he had abandoned The Movie Critic, which for months was teased as the director’s 10th and final film.
Now including The Movie Critic, here are the most intriguing Tarantino projects that never got made.

Quentin Tarantino has always been an iconic and visionary director who is not a fan of making normal films. From antiheroes to historical characters, Tarantino has had a plethora of films to his name with his final film alleged to be The Movie Critic.
Wanting to retire from Hollywood with his 10th and final film, Tarantino created quite a high wall of expectations with his film. The wall, however, crashed down with the recent news that The Movie Critic has been allegedly shelved and it will not be Tarantino’s final film!

Prolific is a massive understatement when it comes to describing producer Samuel L. Jackson, who next stars in The Kill Room, which opens Sept. 29.
Since his debut in indie film Together For Days in 1972, the 74-year-old Jackson has been in more than 100 films that have collectively grossed more than $27 billion, making him the highest-grossing live-action actor of all time as of 2021, according to The Numbers.
In his career, he’s been in some of the most iconic films ever, as well, including Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing (1989), Mo’ Better Blues (1990) and Jungle Fever (1991), Jurassic Park (1993), A Time to Kill (1996), Black Snake Moan (2006), Goodfellas (1990), Die Hard With A Vengeance (1995) and the unforgettable Snakes On A Plane (2006).

Quentin Tarantino may be renowned to be somewhat of a strict director, but his movie sets are more creative and sociable than perhaps every other set in the world. As people already know, the films helmed by Tarantino are extraordinary to a whole new level, and his masterpieces like Pulp Fiction and Inglourious Basterds are living proof of how incredible of a director he is.

The side characters on "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" can sometimes be just as funny or even funnier than the gang themselves, and one of the most beloved of them all is The Waitress, played by Mary Elizabeth Ellis. The Waitress has been a part of the series since the beginning, appearing in the very first episode, "The Gang Gets Racist," but her real name has never been revealed. There aren't many other characters on the series that don't have revealed names, so what gives? Why have they kept the identity of The Waitress a secret for all of these years?
On an episode of "The Always Sunny Podcast," where Ellis joined writers and stars Charlie Day (who is also married to Ellis), Rob McElhenney, and Howerton (along with writer/producer Megan Ganz) to discuss all things The Waitress, the character's real name came up in conversation. It turns out...

Though the duo spark together as unlikely partners in a mafia money laundering scheme, the script and direction drain the life from the composition
Uma Thurman and Samuel L Jackson didn’t share any screen time in Pulp Fiction (though their paths crossed briefly in Kill Bill Vol 2) so this comic thriller can take credit for turning the Tarantino twosome into a double-act for the first time. Thurman plays Patrice, a highly strung, Adderall-snorting Manhattan gallery owner whose acquisitions haven’t exactly set the art world alight. Enter Gordon (Jackson), a Brooklyn bialy baker and underworld stooge who proposes funnelling mob money through her books as supposed payment for artworks.

Maya Hawke's portrayal of Robin Buckley, the quirky Hawkins teen who befriends Steve Harrington in the third season of "Stranger Things," quickly made her a fan favorite. As it turns out, Maya's foray into the Upside Down wasn't her intro to Hollywood, though; she's been around red carpet royalty her entire life. The 25-year-old actor is the child of two major stars: Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke.
Thurman is best known for her roles as Mia in "Pulp Fiction" and The Bride in "Kill Bill: Volume 1" and "Kill Bill: Volume 2." Meanwhile, Ethan is known for playing Jesse in the Before trilogy and starred in the June 2022 horror film "The Black Phone." The pair met on the set of "Gattaca" in 1996 and married in 1998. They had two children, Maya and Levon Hawke, before separating in 2003 and divorcing in 2005. Ethan later married Ryan Shawhughes, and the pair went on to have two daughters,...

An exclusive clip for crime thriller The Kill Room has arrived, reuniting Samuel L. Jackson and Uma Thurman on the cast list for the first time in two decades.
In The Kill Room clip, Uma Thurman’s art dealer Patrice approaches Samuel L. Jackson’s Gordon in a bakery seeking a piece of art she can sell. Gordon is a bit cagey and the two go back and forth on “financial legitimacy”, which seems like an awfully tame term for what they’re about to engage in. This is set up earlier in the movie, when we see Gordon pitching Patrice to sell a piece of art, knowing she has a financial problem that she needs help with. What does Gordon get in return? A cut…and certainly a little something else.

This is the story of an assassin. This is the story of what happens when an assassin makes a mistake on his mission. This is an assassin story we've seen 100 times before. This is a film about an assassin who is very good at what he does and sticks to his plan and doesn't make mistakes. Until he does. And this is about what happens next. We all know this story. Sometimes I wonder if every assassin or hitman film is the same. They all repeat the same tropes, same story beats, rarely ever adding anything new or changing things up. There's only so much one can really say with an assassin story anyway. David Fincher's latest feature film The Killer is once again the same assassin story we've seen in so many other films, including Melville's iconic classic Le Samouraï. It even reminded me of Tarantino's Kill Bill: Vol. 2,...

Since launching in 2020, Cauldron Films has quickly established itself as a boutique label to watch for cult film fans. In addition to unearthing and restoring obscurities like The Crimes of the Black Cat, American Rickshaw, and Frankenstein ’80, they’ve secured a few heavy hitters. Their most recognizable title to date is Lucio Fulci’s City of the Living Dead (originally released in the US as The Gates of Hell). Following an exclusive slipcase edition last year, a standard retail version of the 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray set is available this week.
The 1980 Italian horror film is significant for kicking off Fulci’s thematically connected Gates of Hell trilogy, followed by The Beyond and The House by the Cemetery the next year. Developed in the wake of Fulci’s success with Zombie in 1979, City of the Living Dead features more undead ghouls but this time as accoutrements rather than a centerpiece.

Jackson have teamed up for the first time since Pulp Fiction for The Kill Room, directed by Nicol Paone and written by Jonathan Jacobson.
The dark comedic thriller follows an art dealer (Thurman) who teams with a hitman (Manganiello) and his boss (Jackson) for a money laundering scheme that accidentally turns the hitman into an overnight Avant-Garde sensation, forcing the dealer to play the art world against the underworld.

The theatrical release of Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” back in summer 2019 was met with strong box office numbers and critical acclaim. But for many fans, it was also a wrenching reminder that Tarantino’s time as a feature film director is almost over.
The writer-director has long maintained that he will retire from filmmaking after 10 movies. “Hollywood” marked Tarantino’s ninth feature film (that’s counting “Kill Bill Vol. 1” and “Kill Bill Vol. 2” as one movie), which means the world is only getting one more Tarantino movie before he calls it quits. During a much-buzzed about interview with GQ Australia, Tarantino reminded his fans he is extremely serious when it comes to his retirement plans.
“I think when it comes to theatrical movies, I’ve come to the end of the road,” Tarantino said. “I see myself writing film books and starting to write theater,...

The legendary filmmaker behind Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is gearing up for his tenth and final movie. The project, tentatively titled The Movie Critic, is set to start filming in fall 2023. In a surprising twist, it has been reported that Samuel L Jackson, one of Tarantino’s most frequent and beloved collaborators, has been cast in The Movie Critic. This news comes from insider Daniel Richtman, who shared the scoop on his Patreon page.
The film is based on a real-life “porno rag” journalist who wrote movie reviews in the late 1970s in Southern California. He was known for his cynical, rude and funny reviews of mainstream movies, using curses and racial slurs. He died in his late 30s from complications due to alcoholism.

Tarantino said he was inspired by reading the magazine as a teenager when he worked as a vending machine restocker.

Christopher Nolan understands Quentin Tarantino’s impulse to retire – but also respects filmmakers who continue to make art well into their old age.
The “Oppenheimer” filmmaker recently told Cinema Blend he understands “both points of view” in the discussion of impact versus longevity. “It’s addictive to tell stories in cinema. It’s a lot of hard work, but it’s very fun. It’s something you feel driven to do, and so it’s a little hard to imagine voluntarily stopping,” he said.
But, Nolan added, Tarantino’s long-discussed plans to retire after his 10th(ish) film make sense.
“Quentin’s point has always been that — and he never, very graciously, he’s never specific about the films he’s talking about or whatever — but he’s looking at some of the work done by filmmakers in later years and feeling that if it can’t live up to the heyday,...

There are few modern filmmakers with a voice as distinctive as Quentin Tarantino’s, a former video-store clerk who transformed his movie love into blockbuster, arthouse, genre-redefining masterpieces that kept grindhouse cinema alive while pushing nostalgia in bold directions.
With a career spanning 27 years and ten feature films (depending on how you count), Tarantino has made an indelible mark on cinema. And his hard-hitting, playful directorial style has, in all that time, made good films great, great films classics, and the faults in bad films sometimes harder to recognize.
Here, then, are Quentin Tarantino’s films from “Reservoir Dogs” to “Once Upon a Time in … Hollywood,” ranked from the very worst to the very, very best:
10. “Once Upon a Time in … Hollywood” (2019)
Sharon Tate is a meaningless footnote in her own life story in Quentin Tarantino’s baffling and insulting ode to 1960s Hollywood. Tate is played by Margot Robbie,...

The free market operates on the principle that a good or service is worth as much as somebody will pay for it, and Lionsgate is banking on it. Analysts note that while Lionsgate-the-company is worth about $4.8 billion, the sum of its parts — Lionsgate-the-library-tv-studio-and-Starz — are worth $8.7 billion. How does that work?
To illustrate that disparity, meet the Rosenblatt Securities analyst Barton Crockett. He wrote in a Friday morning note to clients (obtained by IndieWire) that Lions Gate Entertainment Corporation as-is is worth $4.8 billion (enterprise value = market cap + debt + cash), or about half an MGM.
However, Crockett believes Lionsgate’s library alone, which includes “La La Land” and the “John Wick,” “Hunger Games,” and “Twilight” franchises, has a net value of $5.525 billion. In other words, to Wall Street, the archives are worth more than the whole company as it’s currently structured. TV production is worth another $1.6 billion, Crockett wrote, as is the entire Starz business.

The company predicts little impact if writers strike ends before three months.
Lionsgate has reported strong financial results for its fourth quarter, with John Wick: Chapter 4 and other new films boosting the mini-major’s performance.
The company said it is pushing ahead with plans to separate Lionsgate and its Starz subscription platform operation by the end of this year. And it suggested that the impact of the US writers strike on its financial picture will be “modest,” at least until the strike extends beyond three months.

When news first broke about Quentin Tarantino’s potential final film, “The Movie Critic,” it was suggested the project would focus on a female film critic in the late 1970s – a time period that had many wondering if Tarantino would make a movie about Pauline Kael. Alas, maybe in another life. In a new interview with Deadline, Tarantino confirmed major details about “The Movie Critic,” including that its lead character is not Kael but instead based on a real-life male critic who wrote biting reviews for a pornographic magazine during the era.
“The Movie Critic,” Tarantino said, “is based on a guy who really lived, but was never really famous, and he used to write movie reviews for a porno rag.”
“He wrote about mainstream movies and he was the second-string critic,” Tarantino said of his subject, a writer who the filmmaker discovered as a teenager with while “loading porn magazines into vending machines,...

Marvel scripts are always top secret, but “Guardians of the Galaxy” star Pom Klementieff almost took things to a new level by burying her “Vol. 3” script in co-star Karen Gillan’s garden. Klementieff joined the Marvel franchise as Mantis in “Vol 2.” After James Gunn was initially fired as the director of “Guardians Vol. 3” because of controversial jokes he made on Twitter in the past, the two actors got together privately to read Gunn’s script.
“I came over to Karen’s house and it was at a time where James Gunn was not supposed to do the movie anymore,” Klementieff told IndieWire. “So we decided to read the script together and we cried the whole time.”
“We laughed at the same time, then cried again,” Gillan added. “It was quite emotional.”
“And then I got paranoid that someone would find the script. So I was like, ‘We should hide the script.

Filmmaker James Gunn’s Marvel Studios swan song, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, is blasting off this weekend, the de facto start of the summer box office, with an eye at $250M worldwide. Of that, $110M is coming from domestic and $140M from overseas.
Wrinkling some box office sources’ brows is how the threequel’s start is poised to be off Vol 2‘s U.S./Canada opening high of $146.5M back in 2017. Before we scream threequelitis, which most superhero movies possess Teflon against, let’s allow this latest Marvel sequel to play out.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 3 has the longest-running time in the trilogy at 2 hours and 30 minutes, and currently has the lowest (yet solid) reviews at 78% fresh (versus 85% certified fresh on Vol. 2 and 92% on the original 2014 title). Quentin Tarantino, whose “Pulp Fiction” won the Palme D’Or in 1994, and who led the festival jury in 2004, will return to the Cannes Film Festival this year to close out the Director’s Fortnight sidebar.
Being hailed as a “guest of honor” by a press announcement, Tarantino, an “exceptional and generous cinephile,” will be on hand to discuss his “counter-history of cinema” as laid out in his recently published book “Cinema Speculation.” He’s also been given the keys to the projection room, and will program a “secret screening.”
The evening is described as “a rockabilly vibe on closing day.” (Let the cinema speculation begin!)
Though Tarantino’s “Reservoir Dogs” got its start at Sundance in 1992, it had a special screening at Cannes later that same year. After “Pulp Fiction”’s win, he has returned to the French Riviera many times over the years. “Kill Bill Vol. 2” showed out...

James Gunn has reassured Marvel fans over the running time of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.
The director, who is now running the show at DC alongside Peter Safran, is currently finishing work on his final film in the Marvel franchise.
In recent days, a rumour regarding the film’s running time has been circulated on social media. Gunn has now stepped in to confirm that the film will be the longest Guardians yet.
While saying it’s not “exact”, Gunn said the film’s length is “around” 149 minutes, or two hours and 29 minutes.
This will make it the longest Guardians of the Galaxy film to date, with the first one, released in 2014, being 122 minutes and Vol 2 (2017) being 137 minutes.
Writing on Twitter, Gunn “promised” fans that “not a second is wasted”.

People have strong opinions, both good and bad, about films directed by Quentin Tarantino.
Regardless of your opinion on the filmmaker, though there’s no denying his new releases demand to be seen – if only in order in order to debate whether they rank up there with Pulp Fiction (1994) or way down with The Hateful Eight (2017).
Even if viewers don't like a particular Tarantino film, there'll probably be a small part they do like, thanks to his knack for creating fantastic characters – not to mention casting the perfect people in those roles.
It's no surprise that actors including Samuel L Jackson, Uma Thurman and Leonardo DiCaprio rush to be in his films – all three of whom have delivered some of their best performances in Tarantino films.
Following news of Tarantino’s next film, which is expected to be the last before his retirement, we have ranked the director’s 30 greatest characters.

This article contains spoilers for "Poker Face."
The penultimate episode of "Poker Face" season 1, "Escape From S*** Mountain," saw our favorite lie-detector Charlie Cale (Natasha Lyonne) avenge three murders and narrowly escape an early grave herself.
This episode is also the third and final episode that creator Rian Johnson personally directed this season. Johnson wears his filmmaking influences on his sleeve, like how "The Last Jedi" includes a casino-set crane shot homaging 1927 silent classic "Wings." Johnson is also the first director to get a "Vertigo" dolly-zoom into a "Star Wars" movie. "Brick" and The Benoit Blanc series are loving homages to mystery fiction of all sorts, and eagle-eyed viewers of "Knives Out" might have noticed a sly reference to Anthony Shaffer's "Sleuth."

Scream VI is having its press junket this weekend, and the lucky journalists who participated (including our own JimmyO) saw the film last night. Immediately after the screening, they were allowed to share their thoughts on social media, with a full review embargo set to break later this week. Our man Jimmy said the following:
“#Scream6 is a delight! The cast all shine, old and new, and the kills are pretty damn brutal. It’s one the finest sequels in the series with unexpected (and fun) twists throughout! I sure like this scary movie!”
Other reactions were similarly positive, with many praising the amped-up gore and the new urban New York City setting. Of course, one must remember that junket screenings are always pretty positive, and it’s customary that if someone is doing interviews for the movie and they happened to hate it, they wouldn’t share their reaction.

Inglourious Basterds. My first memory of watching a movie in a theater was when I was seven, and it was a double bill: Peter Pan and Kill Bill: Vol. 2.Whenever my divorced father came to visit me, he would always bring me to the movies. He had wanted to see Kill Bill: Vol. 2 on its opening-weekend release, April 16, 2004. This meant I’d be watching the former by myself. This was our little ritual: we’d pay for one, we’d sneak into another movie, then he’d drop me home with my mother.Peter Pan—which was released on Christmas 2003, and which the Regency Commerce, the local cineplex in East Los Angeles where I’d frequently watch films in Spanish dubs, had held over for nearly four months after the holiday season—looked like a safe enough kids’ movie to my father. Surely I’d be kept rapt for the two hours and change.

One of the supplemental materials on the "Kill Bill: Vol. 2" DVD back in the day was a deleted scene featuring a street fight between Michael Jai White and Bill himself, David Carradine. In 1997, White played one of the first Black movie superheroes when he starred in "Spawn," a full year before Wesley Snipes showed up onscreen as Blade. Over a decade later, on the heels of his appearance as the gangster Gambol in another comic book movie, "The Dark Knight," the blaxploitation-style action-comedy "Black Dynamite" allowed White to show off his skills as a third-degree black belt in Shōtōkan karate. That's just one of the martial arts styles that he's studied in real life, so pitting him against Carradine -- star of the '70s TV series "Kung Fu" and its '90s sequel "Kung Fu: The Legend Continues" -- led to a legit martial-arts match-up where you can...

When the 27th annual Art Directors Guild Awards are handed out at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown, Michael Denering, best known for his work in such movies as Die Hard, Batman Returns, Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events and Bram Stoker’s Dracula, will be one of several big-name artists receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award. Ahead of the Feb. 18 event, Denering looked back at some of his prized work, including a piece seen in Steven Spielberg’s dinosaur classic.
The scenic artist was a member of a small team that created a mural for the original Jurassic Park (above). The project was based on Picasso’s famous 1937 oil painting Guernica — the film version swapped out the original antiwar motifs of a gored horse, a bull and screaming women with dinosaurs. The final mural appeared in the compound of park owner John Hammond (played by Richard Attenborough) in various shots of the action flick.

It's tempting to look at the "Kill Bill" movies as just one big film split in two, because they sort of are. Neither of them quite work on their own, and they both tell the singular story of how Beatrix (Uma Thurman) went about her quest for revenge against her former boss and lover Bill (David Carradine). The decision to split the movie wasn't solely due to the length, however: the volumes also have two distinct tones and structures.
"One of the big differences between Volume 1 and Volume 2," director Quentin Tarantino explained in a 2004 interview, "is that if you remember Sonny Chiba's little speech that he gives at the very, very end where he goes, 'Revenge is never a straight line, it's a forest. It's easy to get lost and forget where you came in.' Well, Volume 1 is the straight line."
Sure enough, Volume 1 is remarkably simple by Tarantino's standards.

Few "Star Trek" characters are as beloved as Worf, the first Klingon to join Starfleet, and there are plenty of reasons why. Not only is he the character with the most onscreen appearances, but he's also had quite the journey across multiple "Star Trek" series, starting with "Star Trek: The Next Generation." Michael Dorn, who plays the opera-loving, prune juice-drinking Klingon, is also fiercely protective of his character. It's understandable then that Terry Matalas, who took over as showrunner for the third season of "Star Trek: Picard," was nervous about his pitch for bringing Worf back decades after we last saw him in "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." Not only was this approach different from some of the post-"DS9" comics and novels, but it was a big swing. Thankfully, it turns out that his idea reminded Dorn of a fun Quentin Tarantino character, and from there, things just started to click into place.
