Weeks after Emmy nominee Giancarlo Esposito teased that he’d be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe “sooner than you think,” Variety can confirm that he will appear in “Captain America: Brave New World,” which hits theaters next year.
Esposito revealed he’d been cast in a Marvel project during a panel at Ccxp in Brazil earlier this month. There he squashed fan speculation that he’d play Professor X in the widely expected Marvel Cinematic Universe version of “X-Men.”
“There’s something about being original. We’ve seen different versions of Professor X,” Esposito told the crowd. “Wouldn’t you like to see me play a character in a Marvel movie who is original, and new, and fresh? So, mark my words: This will happen sooner than you think.”

Like many 2024 movies, Captain America: Brave New World was caught up in last year's WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes. Much has been made of plans for reshoots and thanks to The Hollywood Reporter, we finally have an idea of what's really happening.
Despite claims that huge chunks of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier follow-up are being reshot over several months, the trade confirms this additional photography will last only 22 days.
The plan is to add new action sequences and Julius Onah will remain in the director's chair.
When the strikes ended last November, Captain America: Brave New World moved from July 26, 2024 to February 14, 2025. That reportedly gave Marvel Studios executives additional time to figure out what they wanted from reshoots and to address feedback from test screenings.
As we've previously reported, Moon Knight scribe Matthew Orton was enlisted to write new pages in December and worked on those over the winter.

For anyone worried about the state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this latest news probably isn't going to do much to quell your fears.
The Hollywoood Reporter has news that "Captain America: Brave New World," which will mark the big screen debut of Anthony Mackie as the Sam Wilson version of the star-spangled superhero, will be undergoing 22 days of reshoots. Along with adding new action sequences to the movie, whatever scenes are being reshot will also be bringing a new cast member into the mix.
Giancarlo Esposito, best known for playing the vicious Gus Fring on "Breaking Bad" and Moff Gideon on the "Star Wars" TV series "The Mandalorian," has been cast in what the trade is calling an "undisclosed role," but apparently it will be a villainous role. Since Esposito was not part of the movie's original cast during principal photography, that means that this character is being added...

Giancarlo Esposito has joined the cast of Marvel Studios’ “Captain America: Brave New World,” in a villain role as reshoots are underway in Atlanta, according to an insider with knowledge of the project.
Esposito had recently hinted in fan press at being involved with a Marvel Studios project, which will apparently spin-off his character into an upcoming Disney+ show.
“The MCU has knocked on my door and it’s a role you won’t predict,” Esposito said. “It will be teased and there will be a series afterwards.”
The reshoots are scheduled to last 22 days, which will add some new action sequences to the superhero pic. Previously, Marvel has brought on writer Matthew Orton back in December to write new material that will be filmed.

The legal thriller miniseries Presumed Innocent is one of Apple TV+’s most anticipated movies of the summer of 2024. Apple TV+ has earned a reputation for the quality of its shows in recent times. Like most miniseries, Presumed Innocent is based on Scott Turow’s 1987 bestselling novel of the same name. Presumed Innocent was Turow’s first-ever fiction novel, with several others also becoming bestsellers. The Apple TV+ miniseries isn’t the first time the novel has been adapted for screen. Its first adaptation, the 1990 Harrison Ford-led movie, was a massive Box Office hit, grossing $221 million on a $20 million...

The Mandalorian star Giancarlo Esposito recently confirmed he's been cast in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He didn't give much away, but told fans at a convention that "It's a role you won’t predict" and confirmed, "It will be teased and there will be a series afterwards."
The actor has long been a fan-favourite choice to play Professor X or Doctor Doom (among others) and it seems his mystery character is neither of them.
According to Murphy's Multiverse, Esposito will make his MCU debut in 2025's Captain America: Brave New World.
The site reminds us that much of the movie was shot in 2023 before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes halted production. During the downtime, Marvel Studios executives decided The Falcon and The Winter Soldier follow-up needed an overhaul and writer Matthew Orton was enlisted to pen scenes for extensive reshoots.

The late Carrie Fisher was one of the prime contributors to the success of Star Wars. She along with Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford impressed the fans with the iconic Star Wars Original Trilogy. The late actress returned to the franchise after three decades in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Sadly, Carrie Fisher did not have a pleasant return to the epic space opera franchise. She realized a major issue female physique in Hollywood. The Princess Leia fame was disheartened to see the industry being so appearance-driven even after so many years.

You can chart Steven Spielberg's evolution as a director by the "Indiana Jones" films. By 1981, the former wunderkind had gotten the wind knocked out of him by the muted reaction to his erratic 1979 burlesque "1941" (which earned him a tsk-tsking from John Wayne) and was hungry for a rebound. Teaming up with his buddy George Lucas, he made "Raiders of the Lost Ark," a rollicking pastiche that has since supplanted the '30s and '40s serials that inspired their action-adventure in our cultural consciousness.
1984's "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" saw Spielberg wade further into the horror pool he'd explored two years earlier in "Poltergeist," a suburban nightmare that neither he nor director Tobe Hooper can take full credit for. "Temple of Doom" might just feature some of the most exhilarating pacing and grandest spectacle of the filmmaker's career, but that's difficult to appreciate beneath the film's racial insensitivity and general mean-spiritedness.

One of the big reasons why fans were initially excited about Star Wars: The Force Awakens was the prospect of seeing the characters from the original Star Wars trilogy return to the franchise after 30 years. Seeing Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher all back in a galaxy far, far away was something fans had wanted for decades.
Unfortunately, the reunion was cut short. Actress Carrie Fisher passed away on December 27th, 2016, due to a heart attack on a plane flight. Not only did fans across the world mourn her passing, but the then-unfilmed third installment, The Rise of Skywalker, now had to rely on stock footage and edits to incorporate her into the story (and effectively kill the character off).
Nearly eight years later, British singer-songwriter James Blunt, who was friends with Carrie, will release a memoir titled Loosely Based on a Made-Up Story. When appearing at the recent...

Anyone expecting the usual A-list documentary fodder — wacky on-set anecdotes, salacious showbiz gossip — will come away disappointed from this 90-minute deep dive into William Shatner's life, work, wit and wisdom. Instead, You Can Call Me Bill takes the form of a meandering, stream-of-consciousness monologue, with its subject mostly sitting moist-eyed in a darkened room, pondering everything from the "exquisite agony" of evolution to the potential existence of God.
If this makes the film sound pretentious, well... it is, a little. Indeed, some of the lengthier sections, in which Shatner ruminates on death, loneliness and existential terror, are a bit like being trapped inside a Samuel Beckett novel. But the Star Trek icon is also so immensely likeable and engaging that for the most part, it's a joy to spend time in his company — even when he's earnestly extolling the "preciousness of snails".

Alfred Molina has donned a ton of iconic roles spread across multiple different genres that perfectly display his versatility as an actor throughout his over four-decade-long and counting career. But his most commendable performance, besides that of Doc Ock in Spider-Man‘s saga, was his minor debut role as Satipo in Steven Spielberg’s Raiders of the Lost Ark from 1981.

Even though his role was very minor with a brief screen time in the Indiana Jones movie, Molina still had to go through stuff that would be a nightmare for all the people terrified of spiders. This is because, while Tobey Maguire’s second film as the web-slinger didn’t really force him to do anything with spiders, it was actually Spielberg who made his scene an absolute nightmare to shoot.

Reshoots for Captain America: Brave New World are now taking place and we have some fairly unrevealing photos from the movie's set. There's no sign of the cast, but a filming permit reveals potential spoilers for Sam Wilson's first solo outing.
The plan is to shoot an action sequence that will see Sam's car stopped by police using spike traps. A shootout follows, with one of the cops taking a bullet and the hero's car eventually exploding.
A hand-to-hand fight will follow, meaning we hopefully get something akin to Captain America: The Winter Soldier's memorable action scenes.
The new Captain America going on the run from the police has already been rumoured, though it sounds like this is either a replacement or addition to a sequence in the CinemaCon trailer with Sam being stopped by the authorities in Washington D.C.
It now seems safe to assume that...

Glen Powell may have a lock on a slew of beloved 1970s and 1980s franchise reboots, but the actor almost traveled to a galaxy far, far away a decade ago.
Powell told GQ UK that he was amid the final casting round to play Han Solo in “Star Wars” prequel film “Solo” circa 2018.

Ansel Elgort also auditioned but it was Alden Ehrenreich who was instead cast in the lead role. The feature, directed by Ron Howard, bombed at the box office.

A career spanning six decades has had Harrison Ford rise to fame as one of the most versatile stars in Hollywood. Famed as the charismatic Han Solo from Star Wars and the lead protagonist of the Indiana Jones franchise, the star has left an indelible mark on the action, adventure, and fantasy genres. Moreover, these staple outings have often portrayed him as a charming yet roguish actor with quite a serious persona.

Regardless of his movie stereotypes, the legendary actor does, in fact, know how to tickle the funny bones. Marvel Studios has done a pretty good job of keeping a lid on the upcoming Thunderbolts* movie, right down to that mysterious asterisk that was added to the title just before filming began. We've been able to piece a few things together via leaks and cast interviews, but for the most part, the project remains shrouded in secrecy.
Now, some new story details have found their way online. There's nothing too revealing here - and there's a decent chance this much, at least, will be highlighted in the first trailer - but if you'd rather know as little as possible, here's your spoiler warning.
According to Daniel Richtman, the movie will begin with Yelena Belova, US Agent, Ghost and Taskmaster being sent by Contessa Valentina Allegra De Fontaine to take out an unknown target "in a vault." We don't know who this character is, but the crew soon realize that...

Carrie Fisher blamed Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens for Harrison Ford’s 2015 plane crash and her near-fatal car accident. She was convinced that the movie was cursed and even made a call to Mark Hamill to make sure that he was okay. Fisher returned to her role as Princess Leia in the film after 32 years in The Force Awakens and took some time to get settled in.

Taylor Sheridan was inspired by all the Western films he saw as a youngster to create Yellowstone. One film that influenced him the most was Clint Eastwood’s Oscar-winning film Unforgiven. “What do you people out there want?!” a Warner Bros. executive might be forgiven for asking after arguably the worst Memorial Day weekend box office in 40 years. Despite Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga opening to glowing reviews, glitzy standing ovations at the Cannes Film Festival, and as part of a revered IP franchise whose last installment is considered one the best summer movies ever—Mad Max: Fury Road is a six-time Oscar winner!—the prequel’s box office still marked the lowest debut for a number one Memorial Day release since Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. And that came out in 1984.
Estimated to have grossed $31 million over the four-day weekend (and a meager $25 over the three-day) Furiosa’s first weekend box office bow is playing in the same neighborhood as when Harrison Ford’s archaeologist went to India and and Luke Skywalker fighting Darth Vader was considered a novelty.

If you’ve seen “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” and noticed an uncanny resemblance between child actor Alyla Browne, who plays the titular character as a child, and Anya Taylor-Joy, who assumes the role as the story skips ahead several years, you’re not alone.
The reason, it seems, involved more than its skillful casting. Director George Miller additionally employed artificial intelligence in the making of his post-apocalyptic prequel to 2015’s “Mad Max: Fury Road,” which Warner Bros. opened in the U.S. on Friday.
“George Miller had the idea very early on,” explained Taylor-Joy in an interview on “The Kelly Clarkson Show.” “The audience was already getting used to a new Furiosa [Charlize Theron in ‘Fury Road’]. He wanted the transition from both actors [Browne and Taylor-Joy] playing her to be seamless. And so I did two days of the craziest things you could ever possibly imagine. And they mixed our faces together.

The actor received an Academy Award nomination for his role as Don’s eldest son and was often regarded as one of the greatest actors of the generation. George Lucas has a very pointed message for “Star Wars” haters who mocked the franchise prequels and cancelled Jar Jar Binks: the movies aren’t for you.
“It was supposed to be a kid’s movie for 12-year-olds that were going through puberty, who don’t know what they’re doing, and are asking all the big questions: What should I be worried about? What’s important in life?,” Lucas said at the Cannes Film Festival on Friday, where he received an honorary Palme d’Or.
“And ‘Star Wars’ has all those things in there. They’re buried in there but you definitely get it, especially if you’re young,” he continued.
Of the ire that the character of Jar Jar Binks drew when he was introduced in “The Phantom Menace,” Lucas explained, “Everybody said the same thing about 3-po, that he was irritating and we should get rid of him.

Since its inception in 1977 by creator George Lucas, the Star Wars universe has invited some of Hollywood’s biggest names to participate in telling stories from a galaxy far, far away. On that note, imagine having the chance to star in one of the most iconic film sagas of all time, only to walk away with an unpleasant memory that seemed like it’d never fade.
Can an experience alongside a cinematic legend like Lucas ever be, dare we say, “boring”? Well, for Terence Stamp, acclaimed for his chilling portrayal of the villainous General Zod in Richard Donner’s Superman, a discouraging stint on the set of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace left an indelible mark.

Artificial Intelligence or AI is a crucial piece of technology at humanity’s disposal. From education to science, AI can revolutionize processes and change the very landscape of such industries. However, when it comes to the entertainment industry, it is as detrimental as it is beneficial. Artists around the world have been protesting against its use and the use of AI was part of the negotiations during the historic SAG-AFTRA strikes last year.

While artists in Hollywood raise concerns over the use of AI, George Lucas has a different set of beliefs. In a recent interview, the Star Wars creator stated AI and its use within the entertainment industry is inevitable.

Every time a TV or movie crew is asked to adapt a popular novel, there is a chance that it will go horribly wrong. While some novels are easier to retell in new formats, others are impossible to make into a coherent script without changing too many things or adding too many new plots to fill in the holes.
If there's already a perfectly good adaptation of a novel, many believe it's better to leave it alone as a good example. In the case of Scott Turow's Presumed Innocent, however, the story ended up looking too good to leave behind.
Presumed Innocent Release Date
Although Scott Turow's 1987 novel Presumed Innocent has already been adapted into the 1990 film of the same name starring Harrison Ford, Apple TV Plus has decided to repeat the success and give the book another shot. In this version, the story will be adapted into an...

When Andy Dufresne crawled to freedom through “five hundred yards of shit-smelling foulness” in The Shawshank Redemption, it was the ultimate act of hope. As the story’s tagline has it, “Fear can hold you prisoner. Hope can set you free.”
As the movie turns 30, one small Midwestern town is throwing a celebration this summer — call it a big thank-you. Because filming took place over the summer of 1993 at the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield (population 47,000), a onetime manufacturing boomtown in north central Ohio, fans continue to flock from all over the world, eager to tour the former prison, which opened in 2019 as a museum.
Like the town, and like Andy, the movie itself went through a rough patch. Upon release in 1994, Shawshank was initially a box office flop. Seven Academy Award nominations, including best picture and best adapted screenplay, gave it a seal of approval. But then, steadily, by word-of-mouth,...

“I’m a stubborn guy and I didn’t want people to tell me how to make my movies,” is how Star Wars creator George Lucas summed up the secret to his success, speaking to a crowd of fans at a packed Debussy theater in Cannes on Friday afternoon.
The 80-year-old filmmaker was being honored at the 77th Cannes festival with a Palme d’Or for his contribution to cinema, and the crowd, a much younger cohort than is usually seen at these events, whooped and hollered as Lucas walked on the stage. They were rapt as he sat down for a wide-ranging discussion of his life in the movie business.
Lucas said he felt “nostalgic” to be back in Cannes, where he presented his first feature, Thx-1138, at the Directors’ Fortnight back in 1971. His Thx-1138 co-writer and sound designer Walter Murch was in the audience as Lucas recalled how...
